Speedy deletion nomination of Roderick Edwards
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on Roderick Edwards, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
- It appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), individual animal, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. (See section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Notes
[edit]First, please be aware that you are not allowed to remove speedy deletion tags from articles you have created. Second, please note that writing about yourself is not forbidden, but is strongly not advised - see WP:AUTOBIO. Third, please read WP:BIO, concerning notability of persons. Under WP:POLITICIAN, standing for election does not confer notability under BIO, and nor does any publicity part of or resulting from the campaign. Certain levels of elected position (e.g. congressman, MP. MSP, state legislature member etc) are considered notable, but candidates for these positions have to rely on their own previous notability. (County and city positions are not regarded as notable.) Fourth, please note that biographies of living persons must be referenced. References showing notability must be compliant with WP:RS. Fifth, please note that Wikipedia is not social media or a notice board. We do not allow advertising, promotion or campaigning here. Your article was fairly neutrally worded as compared with those of other candidates that I have seen, but asking rhetorical questions is not usually part of an encyclopaedic style. As I am not American and am apolitical, I won't wish you either good or bad luck - but if your campaign takes off it could have interesting results, not only over there... Peridon (talk) 16:23, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
- Our messages might have crossed. If you reply here, I'll see it. Even at POTUS level, WP:POLITICIAN strictly applies. I've no idea who the other person you refer to is, but if he has an article, please let me know and I'll check it out. Burning Korans doesn't strike me as enough for an article WP:BLP1E. Of course, if your campaign does take off, it could become notable in its own right - that is, it could be notable for its own importance to the history of elections rather than for its message. It can be surprising what becomes notable and what doesn't. There are many big successful companies not in here (rejected, even...), but there is an article about a Scottish bus shelter. Peridon (talk) 16:42, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
- You could take a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sophy Gardner for an example of how seriously things get taken here. Peridon (talk) 17:00, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks Peridon for the even handed answers. I didn't mean to remove the delete notice, I originally thought it meant the notice here on this talk page as you can see I didn't delete. I understand about autobio and self promotion. As you saw, I attempted to keep the page as neutral as possible. The "Terry" fellow in question is Terry Jones. It is just a shame that a person has to do something outrageous before they are noteworthy.

Lastly, thank you for your kind of eagerness or at least fascination with what I'm trying to accomplish, and if I do reach noteriety level, I hope you are the one that creates the new Roderick Edwards page. Roderick E (talk) 17:28, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
- One of the joys of working on Wikipedia is finding out what people actually mean. Not your fault - there's more than one Terry Jones. [[Terry Jones]] links to the Monty Python person. Your one is Terry Jones (pastor). Yes, well. Unfortunately he is notable and to my mind an example of 'notorious' in its real meaning (as opposed to the hiphop influenced use as 'famous'). If he gets in, I could see him being the first one of this century to be assassinated. (We gave that up long ago. You only get another one to replace the one that's gone. Like in Burkina Faso - they've got the 27 year served president to step down. What happens? The head of the military takes over.) Thank you for being understanding. And for not having the arrogance that seems to go with being a candidate in so many cases. Peridon (talk) 18:35, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

The file File:Rodericke image.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
low quality image used only for self promotion
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Legacypac (talk) 08:32, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
