Hey, I noticed that you've blocked 80.190.250.83, as a TOR node, which, it is no longer. I was wondering, if you'd consider either allowing me to unblock it, or, unblocking it yourself please. SQLQuery me! 20:50, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RfB Thank You spam

[edit]
Thank you for participating in my RfB! I am very grateful for the confidence of the community shown at my RfB, which passed by a count of 154/7/2 (95.65%). I have read every word of the RfB and taken it all to heart. I truly appreciate everyone's input: supports, opposes, neutrals, and comments. Of course, I plan to conduct my cratship in service of the community. If you have any advice, questions, concerns, or need help, please let me know. Again, Thanks! Hans Krása

[edit]

The composer's Talk page indicates that you translated the German Wikipedia article to create this one. My query is about the German cultural institutions in pre-WWII Prague with which the composer was affiliated:

  • German Music Academy
  • Neuen Deutschen Theater (spelling corrected per the German article)
  • Deutsches Landestheater

Unfortunately, there's no page in the Czech Wikipedia. From the Slovakian Wikipedia page, I gather that the names would have originally been in Czech. As I read neither Czech nor German, I'm seeking help identifying these, with their actual names and in English-language translation (and ideally with internal links). -- Thanks, Deborahjay (talk) 07:47, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Thanks so much for your input! I've linked to that response in the Ref Desk discussion, from which I'll synopsize information to improve the page. -- Cheers, Deborahjay (talk) 17:27, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Thanks to everyone who participated in my RfA, regardless of their !vote. I have withdrawn the nomination as a failure at 19 supports, 45 opposes, and 9 neutral statements.

As has been written and sung, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need — and what I need is to go back to working on our shared project. Not everyone has to be an admin; there is a role for each of us. After reflection, I feel I don't have the temperament to secure community consensus as an admin at any point, and I will not be applying again in the future — and hey, that's all right, 'cause I stay true to the philosophy that adminship is no big deal: I tried, I failed, and now I'll return to doing what I've always done. I have an extremely strong belief in the consensus process, and the consensus was clear. I will be devoting my energies to volunteering at MedCab and working up a complete series of articles on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway, among lord knows what else. Thanks again to everyone who spared the time to weigh in on this one. It was made in better faith than it probably seemed.
Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 14:12, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your concern over my unrevealed past is legit; I could be anyone. I'm not some legendary villain - but there's no way you can know that if I don't open up more, is there? I would never act unilaterally — I'm a hardcore consensus kind of guy who believes in WP:C on personal ideological principle — but I do tend to use everything as a soapbox. Heck, I use my own feet as a soapbox just about 24/7. I appreciate your considered response to my nom and look forward to working with you in the future. Cheers, Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 14:12, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks!

Thank you...

...for participating in my RfA, which closed with 119 in support, 4 neutral and 5 opposes. I'm honestly overwhelmed at the level of support that I've received from the community, and will do my best to maintain the trust placed in me. I 'm also thankful to those who opposed or expressed a neutral position, for providing clear rationales and superb feedback for me to build on. I've set up a space for you to provide any further feedback or thoughts, should you feel inclined to. However you voted, thanks for taking the time out to contribute to the process, it's much appreciated. Kind regards, Gazimoff 21:38, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Omar 'OJ' Koroma, No one has said he might. Saying he will does not violate WP:CRYSTAL. Please don't mispresent the policy - it doesn't help the process. Nfitz (talk) 23:03, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Per WP:CRYSTAL, I believe that one can say that the 2008 Olympics will take place or that High School Musical 3 will be released. Signing a player, and especially a young player, on loan does not necessarily guarantee that he will play. It is clear that I have a strict interpretation of "Avoid predicted sports team line-ups, which are inherently unverifiable and speculative." and you do not. I am disagreeing with you, but I think both of our interpretations are entirely legitimate. Like many Wikipedia policies - although perhaps not WP:ATHLETE, which I feel the article does not meet - there is plenty of room for plurality of interpretation. Rje (talk) 00:02, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • I certainly agree about signing a player, etc. But when you are only a couple of weeks from the beginning of the season, the first team is clearly in evidence from the pre-season friendlies, and we have players showing up in every game, that the event of them playing is likely enough that, while I'm not about to start creating articles, that we would be better served not trying to AfD them for a couple of weeks. We had one last week, where the AfD was ongoing, the first game of the season came and went, there were media reports that the player in question was pulled from the starting line-up at the last minute because of immigration issues that would be cleared up in a couple of days, and we still had people shouting WP:CRYSTAL. Nfitz (talk) 06:01, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I do actually have some sympathy with your argument, which is why I didn't mention CRYSTAL in my initial statement. My problem is that WP:ATHLETE is clear and succinct - you are notable if you play - whereas entering the realm of the hypothetical is not. Even though there is legitimate reason to think that this player will play at some point - although I would hesitate to suggest that it is a certainty, because nothing in football is - I really don't like the grey area that it would introduce into these discussions. It is much easier to talk about whether a player has played or not than it is to come to a decision about the likelihood of him playing or not. CRYSTAL is a clumsy weapon to be sure, but it is much easier than having irresolvable, hypothetical arguments. Rje (talk) 16:30, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Which all sounds great - but here we are as the season starts, trying to wholesale delete articles, many of which will have to resurrected shortly. I've only been flagging a few where notability seems inevitable, with numerous first team appearances during the final pre-season games. It just seems we should be doing something else other than deleting these at this time. Perhaps a list somewhere, where they get deleted at some future date if nothing happens. Nfitz (talk) 22:33, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou

[edit]

Just a little note to say thankyou for participating in my successful RFA candidacy, which passed with 96 supports, 0 opposes, and 1 neutral. Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

[edit]

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Thanks for your noticing my mistakes on these. I assumed they were all firearm fatalities since it was a subcategory of Category:Deaths by firearm. ArbCom vote

[edit]

Hi there! I was hoping I could clarify a few things about my answer to Sarcasticidealist's question #1. I'm going to do something arbitrators (much less prospective ones) aren't supposed to do: admit that I was wrong. While when I answered that question I had no problem with the community enforcing binding policy, I've now seen the flaws. Where? At the Ireland naming dispute case now before ArbCom. Seeing editors change the names of the Ireland articles against consensus by abusing procedure and over-stressing the letter of our MOS and NPOV policies at the cost of the spirit of those guidelines convinced me that I was mistaken in my earlier support. So even though I know that in this day and age I'm supposed to stick to my guns lest I be labeled a flip-flopper, I'm going to acknowledge I made a mistake, correct said mistake, and move on.

On a related note, I urge you to take a look at my strikeout and explanation here with relation to Lar's question 2b. Thank you, and happy editing! --Hemlock Martinis (talk) 00:33, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello Rje, Thank you for removing whatever was causing difficulties. You are right. I haven't edited in a while. Frankly, I haven't quite got the hang of wiki, and haven't found enough time to sit down and read all the quidelines and manuals.

The hardest part is following the notes. I can't make heads or tails of the line by line entries, what was added or deleted, etc.

Also, I'm hesitant to add info without citations, which would often require much time to locate. What do people do in such cases, where they're sure of what they read, but don't remember the source?

Orphaned non-free media (File:Theringtwo poster.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Theringtwo poster.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 03:54, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rje I wonder if you could look at Øyvind Brandtsegg. I'm not sure whether he would fulfil the WP:NOTABLE notability requirements for an article on the English Wikipedia but since he had one on the Norwegian one I did a rough translation to here. (I got interested in this person from reading the linked ScienceDaily article). First, what do you think on the notability question? Second, can you help fix up my poor translation of the Norwegian version (no:Øyvind Brandtsegg). Third, I wonder if you know of any appropriate English resources to verify the information. You might be able to mediate a formulation for the lead acceptable for everybody. It is clear that all 3 editors (Anti-Nationalist, Anonimu, and me) accept your mediation. I believe we are very close to a good solution. Dc76\talk 23:26, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, thank you so much! You have been very helpful tonight. Without you, it would have been a revert war. You wasted your time, but be assured, what you did tonight is very appreciated. You helped bring a potential conflict into a civilized setting. about trimming down, I supported that version from the very beginning. It was Urban that wanted to add the opposition in the lead, them Anti-Naitonalist and Anonimu simply reverted to Urban's version. ( Anti-Nationalist and Anonimu are my old "friends" :-) ) Again, thank you so much for everything!!! good night! Dc76\talk 01:16, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
