Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Rika Ohara. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DoubleGrazing (talk) 06:46, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest

[edit]

Hello,

I assume, based on your username, that you are the person described in Draft:Rika Ohara, which I have just de-published ie. sent to the draft space? In which case, please see WP:AUTOBIO for our policy on writing about yourself, which is strongly discouraged.

Furthermore, I assume also that you have a real-life external relationship with Kumo (musician), as well as the subject of your sandbox draft which I have just declined. You therefore must make a formal conflict-of-interest (COI) disclosure, and avoid directly editing or publishing on topics where you have a COI.

Thank you, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 06:58, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again, I noticed that you made this edit to Kumo (musician), with the comment "deleted to avoid appearance of conflict of interest". I would just point out that your conflict of interest (COI) in this subject is still there, whether there is information included in that article that connects you to it or not. One could argue that with this edit you're not addressing the matter of your COI, but rather attempting to hide it, which isn't the same thing.
Please make your COI disclosure now, before editing further. Thank you. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:15, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Kumo (musician), without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Thank you. DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:27, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have found multiple templates for Conflict of Interest. Please direct me to the most current one. Rika Ohara (talk) 10:33, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You have added the correct disclosure template to the Kumo (musician) article's talk page, thank you. You must also do the same for all articles or drafts that you have edited or intend to edit, where you have a COI. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:51, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Re: The Heart of No Place neutral point of view: I, the primary, independent, creator of the film, recently updated the references (as some festivals are no longer in existence, and I am simply the only person in possession of all the catalogs, or care enough to retrieve them). As a researcher/writer and former journalist, I take pride in distinguishing facts from opinions. The exhibitions and awards the film received are all verifiable, and the opinions of the festival juries.
Please direct me to the right template for a PoV statement. Rika Ohara (talk) 14:05, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by "the right template for a PoV statement".
For clarity: you need to make immediately the same sort of disclosure regarding this article, as you did for Kumo.
You should then avoid editing the article directly, and instead make edit requests via the article's talk page, as explained above in the 'Managing a conflict of interest' section.
Thank you, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 14:13, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry too. It reads like PoV was what was requested of me to explain for this article. I interpreted it to mean the nuance, if not the rules are different for the artists' WORK – as independent artists are often the only ones to document it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Heart_of_No_Place
If the CoI suffices, I will use it – except for that the template I can find for it has now changed: due to the number of tags placed on my edits? Rika Ohara (talk) 14:39, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you.
That template should be enough.
I made a small correction to both disclosures: the user name needs to be your full and precise Wikipedia account name (Rika Ohara). -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 14:52, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm CocaPopsRather. I noticed that you recently removed content from The Giaour without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. CocaPopsRather (talk) 18:38, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please delete it again. I am the producer/director of this film, and it violates the Wikipedia rules. I'd rather not have to see the unsightly "connection" warning placed on this significant piece of literally work. The film will go into production soon. I'd rather see the film legitimately listed when complete. Rika Ohara (talk) 18:41, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I reverted your edit on The Giaour because you removed content with out explaining why, feel free to remove the content with an edit summary explaining why. Thank you CocaPopsRather (talk) 19:33, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! The content removed. Rika Ohara (talk) 19:44, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
