Edward Gustave Brisch page request
[edit]Hello...I hope I've just submitted a new entry for Edward Gustave Brisch. The first was declined - it was the text from my Wordpress blog written by me.
The new entry is a complete re-write and I hope will be accepted.
My problem is I'm not sure if the draft reached you OK or not.
Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from you.Riga-to-Rangoon (talk) 11:48, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

[edit]... for the information about Alfred Biliotti's grave. Maybe I'll go and see it one day. (I think I started the Biliotti page many years ago.)
Glancing hastily at the above and at the draft, it appears to me certain that Brisch is notable and should have a biography page. Feel free to ask me if you're uncertain how to proceed and you think someone could help. Andrew Dalby 08:59, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
Andrew Dalby - thank you so much for your quick reply - do go see Biliotti's resting place and let me know! I also appreciateyour kind words about my draft submission for Brisch. I'm not sure quite what is happening with my draft. Do you think it is waiting to be reviewed or shall I submit it again? Any help you can give would be fantastic! Riga-to-Rangoon (talk) 18:53, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
- OK, apologies for not checking back earlier, I'll hunt around and see what if anything is going on. Andrew Dalby 08:28, 2 June 2019 (UTC)
- The mistake, probably (and not your fault) was in submitting a draft at all. That system works creakily, in my experience. People who can write about something of encyclopedic interest, and know how to do footnote references, have happier and more productive lives if they just move a final draft from userspace into the encyclopedia and see what happens. I may try that with your text -- it can't do any harm -- but I'll glance over it first.
- I can see two versions: one at Draft:Edward Gustave Brisch and the other at User:Riga-to-Rangoon/sandbox. I think the sandbox version is the latest, but please confirm this: then I'll look through it carefully. Andrew Dalby 11:09, 2 June 2019 (UTC)
So sorry about late reply Andrew but I have been away for a bit. Very kind of you to do this for me and, yes, the sandbox version is the latest. Kindest regards Riga-to-Rangoon (talk) 13:28, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
- No problem, thanks for the reply, I'll have a look through it. Andrew Dalby 08:47, 16 June 2019 (UTC)
- I have done some rewriting and rearranging. The revised text is now at User:Riga-to-Rangoon/Edward G. Brisch. I added a couple of sentences on the library classification aspect Please have a look, if you have time, and let me know (here below if you like) if I have made any mistakes.
- Before I revise the footnotes I need to know one thing. There was a conference paper by Brisch and Geoghegan in 1957 which is cited among his publications. It was also cited (same journal, same page numbers) among the sources for several details of his biography. And the biography on the website is said to be based on it. OK, but the title of the conference paper doesn't sound a bit like a biography! So what's the explanation? It's perfectly possible that a biography is included as a preface or appendix to the conference paper, but, if so, it must be on some specific page! If the biography takes up all twelve pages, then there's no conference paper. I feel some minor confusion here. Can you help me to understand? Andrew Dalby 20:31, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
Andrew - extremely kind and helpful, thanks so much; let me take a little time to read and then answer you fully - in a few days I hope. It's wonderful to have made so much progress on this. Riga-to-Rangoon (talk) 18:30, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
Andrew – The ASLIB suggestion is fine, and a helpful exposition – many thanks. As for that reference (Institution of Production Engineers Journal, Volume 36, Issue 9, September 1957, 571-82), the references I make to it are correct, but they should cite the first page (p.571) only, which features a short introductory (auto?)biography by/to the authors, and the article continues after that. You can see it at https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/5129004
Do hope that clears everything for now – do ask me for more at any time. Riga-to-Rangoon (talk) 18:14, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
- Splendid. I thought that must be the explanation, but it's good to know. Thanks very much for the link -- I didn't realise that article was on line. I'll do a bit more on the references now.
- I was a librarian; ASLIB and classification methods featured in my training: hence my interest in this aspect. Andrew Dalby 08:30, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
- I did some work on the footnotes, felt happy, and moved the page into the encyclopedia. It is now at Edward G. Brisch -- and already comes up in second place on a Google search. We could think of adding more details from his journey 1941/2, but maybe best to wait a couple of days to see if anyone has objections to the article as it stands. I doubt it, though.
- Links from other pages help to make an article safe. I added references to Brisch at Ministry of Supply and Stafford Cripps: I hope at least one of them sticks. Andrew Dalby 17:25, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
- Seems OK. I added a reference to Brisch in a footnote on the ASLIB page today. Andrew Dalby 16:42, 27 June 2019 (UTC)
Andrew - I can't thank you enough for all your help - you did a wonderful job with it. Interesting too to get your ASLIB info - I've been in the book trade and publishing all my days too! I will wait a bit and then try adding some more material and try and get a photo. Do contact me any time of course - thanks again so much. Riga-to-Rangoon (talk) 17:48, 27 June 2019 (UTC)
- Glad if I've helped. I have been waiting with interest to see if anyone connected with the draft submission process would notice these developments. I will write to one of those above to explain what I did. People do their best, but one can understand, seeing the above, why some others, like me, advise "Don't use Draftspace; don't submit a draft". But then, the process I used (setting up an article in Userspace, then moving it into Mainspace when it's ready), simple though it is, needs an understanding of what those three Spaces are! ... Wikipedia was a lot simpler and more informal when I started to use it in 2005. I've kept up to some extent.
- I came across Biliotti because, back then, I was commissioned to write a short biography of Eleftherios Venizelos. They were whist-playing neighbours in Chania when Venizelos was a young man. Biliotti's rowing boat once helped Venizelos in the same way as Cripps's intervention helped Brisch. Andrew Dalby 08:57, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
Late thank you for this Andrew - always good to get some Greek info; right now i'm on a small Greek island, pursuing my other hobby ...Theodore Bent! if you don't know him so well you might like to see my site wwww[point]tambent[dot]com! Thasos
[edit]Hello! I'm sorry to say that I've had to remove virtually all your additions to the Thasos article. Some was off-topic, and some was very plainly original research, closer to investigative journalism than to encyclopedic writing. I've given reasons for removals in my edit summaries at the article, but would be willing to expand on these if it helps. Wikipedia is not a blog! You've evidently put a great deal of patient work into your additions, so I didn't remove them gladly. Haploidavey (talk) 06:44, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi Jamiebuba - thanks so much for your comments on my draft for Egon Huber; I'm very disappointed naturally as I genuinely believe I have provided fantastic references and sources for this important ceramicist whose works are much sought after and feature in prominent collections. Plus his back story is highly interesting, e.g. his friendship with Lawrence Durrell. Is it possible to get a second opinion on this? Look forward to your reply.Riga-to-Rangoon (talk) 17:53, 21 November 2022 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Industria Ceramiche Artistiche Rodio Orientali (I.C.A.R.O.), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Industria Ceramiche Artistiche Rodio Orientali (I.C.A.R.O.) moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Industria Ceramiche Artistiche Rodio Orientali (I.C.A.R.O.), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your page to draft space (with a prefix of Draft:
before the article title) where you can work on it with minimal disruption. When you feel that it meets our notability and neutrality requirements, and is thus ready for mainspace, please submit it using the Articles for Creation template on the page.
