Training event in Newcastle
If the notification run isn't finished already, could you consider switching to a nicer link such as in my edit or at least use the protocol neutral form // rather than hardcode it to http://? Kind regards, Snowolf How can I help? 14:13, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
- Also, if I may make a minor wording suggestion, doesn't it sounds nicer if you write "Wikimedia UK is committed to supporting our volunteers and to encourage them to teach others how to edit Wikipedia, we are running a weekend training workshop that will take place on the weekend of 23–24 February in Newcastle. " rather than "Wikimedia UK is committed to supporting our volunteers. Kind regards, Snowolf How can I help? 14:16, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
- I managed to use the nicer link for my userpage but it just didn't occur to me to do so for the other links. And you're quite right about the wording, it helps with the flow. Thanks for the input. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 14:17, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
- Glad to be of some help and best of luck with your outreach event. By the way, remember to file a bugzilla: to ask for the account creation limit to be increased if you feel there are going to be new contributors making their accounts there (this is best done far in advance). - We've learned that for events where people are introduced to editing it helps to ask them to register ahead of turning up to avoid getting caught out by the account creation limit. This event though is aimed at existing Wikimedians to develop skills to take to new potential editors and help them learn about Wikipedia shouldn't be a concern for this particular event. You are invited to the first ever Glasgow Wiki Meetup which will take place at The Sir John Moore, 260-292 Argyle Street, City of Glasgow G2 8QW on Sunday 12 May 2013 from 1.00 pm. If you have never been to one, this is an opportunity to meet other Wikipedians in an informal atmosphere for Wiki and non-Wiki related chat and for beer or food if you like. Experienced and new contributors are all welcome. This event is definitely not restricted just to discussion of Scottish topics. Bring your laptop if you like and use the free Wifi or just bring yourself. Even better, bring a friend! Click the link for full details. Looking forward to seeing you. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:20, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- Sadly Glasgow's a little out of my way, trains take about 5 hours from where I am but good luck with the meetup. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 09:40, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
WikiProject Archaeology - sweeping changes
Hi Richard, good to see you the other week hope to catch up soon. I've discovered new WP vigour and want to tackle the WikiProject archaeology pages and some organisational stuff in order to (hopefully) tempt more archaeologists to get involved and convince experienced Wikipedians that we know what we're doing! I've begun in a sandbox here: User:PatHadley/Map of Archaeology. What do you think? Cheers, PatHadley (talk) 15:48, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Pat, sorry for not replying sooner. I've had a busy few days catching up after some time off. I'll email you some thoughts when things are a bit less manic. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 13:41, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
First World War
Over the past several months I have been documenting and creating articles with regards to the United States Army Air Service contributions to the Western Front. Have written several articles with regards to the Aero Squadrons (ex: 20th Aero Squadron), Airfields (List of Air Service American Expeditionary Force aerodromes in France), and also a few of the major support units, such as the 3d Air Instructional Center (3d AIC) at Issoudun Aerodrome. Will be continuing to work on this over the next few months to document all of the combat units that were sent to France. Take care.. Bwmoll3 (talk) 16:04, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- That sounds like an interesting project you've taken on. Working on all the combat units sounds like a very broad project, how many articles does it cover? Is there any way WMUK can support you? Would you be interested in being part of an international collaboration? Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 11:23, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

a request
Seasons greetings
I happened to browse first chapter of "Human Evolution (2014) by Robin Dunbar" at pelicanbooks.com library. Presently I am working on relatively new en wikipedia article Ceremonial pole. Ceremonial pole is ancient tradition in human history, I am interested in exploring the book "Human Evolution (2014)" further to find if any citations relating to this tradition are available in the given book.
I did not see much recent activity on Wikipedia:Pelican Books this page. If it is still open I am interested in applying for the same. Please let me know.
Thanks and warm regards
