Note about second proposal related to restrictions of Gp75motorsports and Blow of Light
[edit]As someone who gave your input into my initial proposal, would I be able to respectfully request your input into a secondary proposal which addresses issues related to the restrictions placed on Blow of Light specifically? Your input into gathering consensus at this discussion would be much appreciated. Thanks, Daniel (talk) 12:03, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Leaving WP
[edit]Dear Riana,
You are the only person I am writing to before I leave Wikipedia. I see no reason to carry on here. The one article I think I have written that really might help someone in need has been completed (more or less).
I am leaving because of this blog post. As I knew since Feb 2007, Banker and his friends had been editing that article in a biased manner. A quick look over the history shows that I was the only editor that dared clean-up the article.
The vendetta reversions mentioned by Banker and his army were all bot reversions. The discussions on the talk page were by anon IPs discussing removals/additions by other anons. New users would come by every few days and add things that couldn't be verified. I would remove them and post on the talk page why they were removed, and then I have anon IPs spewing venom at me.
I format something, and I'm blamed for incorrect facts in the article. I posted on the article talk page that I would remove everything that might be a copyvio within two days. Unfortunately, the net was down and I left for a vacation with my family soon after. I come back, and I find yet another new user telling me how I should keep things real.
Am I in the wrong? I don't know. I'm not sure. I definitely should have stayed away from that article when I found out Banker and his friends were editing it, as I noted on the talk page. Now there is an external link on the article going to Banker's blog, which details how I am an abusive editor.
I don't want to malign WP's name any further, which apparently my staying here does. I'm no journalist. I'm just a student who works part-time, gets his grades, and tries to add whatever little bit of knowledge possible to Wikipedia. I was just trying to help.
Why am I writing all this to you? You were my admin coach at one point. You're a great editor and even better admin. More than all of that, you're one of the few people here that treat editors as humans, that make mistakes but can learn from them. The rest of this so-called community focuses more on its members and their screw-ups and less on article-writing.
I would like to apologise if I've ever troubled you. I would like to thank you for all your guidance. I would like to request you, if possible, to look over what has gone on, on that page. If possible, at all, to clear my name of this, I'd be indebted to you. If you find I am at fault, then its better I be gone. I apologise for the trouble.
I'm just rambling now, so I'll stop. Glad to have met you. Have a great future and happy editing,
-xC- 15:05, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for your kind words. But I don't know... its like the Preity Zinta article... until my name is cleared out of all I'm accused of, I refuse to edit any article on WP.
If you have a look at the article page, the link suggested by Banker and his friends is [2]
Now lets see whats wrong with this -
- Its all written in a single block. It needs to be in sections to be in line with manual of style for WP articles.
- Phrases like "was earlier known as" and "well-known for his" - known by whom? where are the refs for these self-publicising claims?
- the bibliography has around a dozen titles TBA (to be announced). Theres no place for these in the article, no crystal gazing on WP.
- Half the external links cannot be accessed, or redirect to a blank page
- Phrases such as "He's also said to be working on an " - who said he is working on them? where is the ref for this?
- All the refs in the initial portion of the article are from 'Epic India .com', which is a site run by him. More importantly, none of them have any content on them. They just have the words 'epicindia.com' written. For example, 12
- Therefore I don't find any reliable sources stating anything which has been mentioned as sourced.
Was I wrong in formatting the article and cleaning it up? Am I wrong in refusing this reversion?
I don't know if this is allowed within WP policy, but could I request you or someone else (I already requested Blofeld) to make the required changes on the article. Or please explain on the talk page why the old version couldn't be reverted?
On the other hand, if you believe the article should be reverted, please do revert it. I place full faith in your experience. Maybe there's something I missed regarding this particular article... I don't know.... its only been trouble.
Looking forward to your mail,
And sorry for piling this onto you,
-xC- 20:08, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
I've posted on the article talk page, explaining how I am not the editor to blame. They have clearly mistaken me for a whole range of IP editors and users who keep adding their own brilliance to the article and revert each other. From what I understand, I was the only editor who would reply to Banker and his friends on the talk page, and I was the person to whose versions the article kept getting reverted by bots. So they blame me for all of it.
Secondly, I wasn't at all involved in the copyvio bit. But since I was the person who replied to Ashwinblake (who incidentally has blanked the article more than 5 times), I get the IP venom.
It was my mistake to have been rude to the user on the talk page, but that was the same user who keeps reverting and putting in his/her own version in the article. Now we have Banker, his friends, his manager and main editor of his site epicindia.com all editing the article. I also have a blog post on the net which blames me squarely for everything wrong with the article, which has now been reverted to a Sept06 version.
I will talk on the article talk page as much as anyone wants me to, but I refuse to edit the article any further until there are more editors working on it. As of now its just a Banker reunion area and I'm the lone bad guy against all of them.
What do I do?

[edit]Hi Riana a number of things I need you to help with. First of all can you create a PD-Italy template -it redirects at present. I've uploaded an image Image:Teatro Margherita.jpg which is public domain and it needs fitting with a proper tag. Here is the one at Italian wikipedia =pre April 22 1941 is public domain
Secondly I've made many agreements with flickr users to use the images for wikipedia. COuld you help sort the OTRS ticketing? Shall I send you copies of the emails,? Adambro never seems to be about to do it. I will be arranging a number of agreements with flickr users -would you be willing to help we get some of these fantastic images uploaded? ON wikipedia I'm currently developing articles on poorer but often exotic parts of the world where images make a huge differenve. Hope you are well -please respond, Blofeld ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 15:27, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
OK thanks Riana. Can I send you the flickr messages by email? I've sent them to the OTRS permission at the commons but nobody has read them I think. If you could sort this asap this would be great. I;ve uploaded many images from places like Burma, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia etc but to wikipedia rather than the commons. I;ve noticed some people have already moved them to the commons but it would be great if I was in contact with someody such as yourself who could quickly authorize it. I'll email them to you anyway. Regards friend. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 15:42, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
OK I've emailed the messages to you. Thats all for now I think - many people seem to feel quite pleased about helping wikipedia. This is good to know! I;ve also asked somebody if we can use their Tristan da Cunha images but I;m awaiting confirmation on that one. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 15:55, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'll process the lot over the next few days - if you've uploaded them to Commons, feel free to mark them with {{OTRS pending}}, k? :) ~ Riana ⁂ 06:23, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
OK no probs Riana. I've made another new agreement with a guy called Doug and he has tons of images from place slike Ghana which we are free to use images like this. I'll upload them OTRS pending for now cool? Best wishes Blofeld ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 14:01, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Some of the new Ghana ones arehere ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 14:35, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
- Folks, I'm not certain those images are acceptable on Commons. Consider it:Immagine:Bari - Foto d'epoca del Teatro Margherita.jpg. Beneath the tag indicated above is a notice, "Attenzione: un'immagine con questa licenza non può essere caricata su Wikimedia Commons perché la politica sul copyright di Commons è molto restrittiva e l'immagine trasferita verrebbe cancellata." I understand little Italian, but I think it means, "Attention: an image with this license cannot be uploaded(?) to Wikimedia Commons because the copyright at Commons is more restrictive and the transferred image will be cancelled/deleted(?)".
- At any rate, I tentatively agree with the assessment. Firstly, I am aware that PD-Italy images have been a source of difficulties in the past (I can't find an archive right now). Secondly, while the images may be in the public domain in Italy, they are not necessarily in the public domain in the United States due to the U.S.'s non-observance of the "rule of the shorter term". Remember that images hosted on Commons must be freely licensed in both the country of origin and in the United States (see commons:COM:L).
- I can give some better links and explanations later (probably within 24 hours), but I am currently pressed for time, so this is all I can say now. --Iamunknown 07:19, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Not leaving
[edit]Hey there Riana,
- I'm not leaving WP.
- I've tried to explain the edit history fiasco to Banker in a post on the talk page - Talk:Ashok Banker.
- The content removal he talks about were bot reversions of IP edits, which I was being blamed for. I've put them in and made a note of this on the talk page.
Thanks for your help,-xC- 13:32, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Impersonators and WP:DENY
[edit]HI. I just noticed this where you got rid of most visible signs of an impersonator of me. I think this is quite appropriate. I would like you to do the same (but probably not yet) for the other impersonators of me listed at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Qwerty of Man — but after the case is sorted and the dust settles. Possibly also for User:Senang Hati (impersonator), which is a mess, but is explained on the case page and in the links given. Comments in the meantime? [edit]How this helps the encyclopedia? Can you please tell me? miranda 02:50, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
- Since you want to be funny, I will tell you what I meant in black and white. Lara made a personal attack on a user, which meant in the context of a small violin, which translates to "failing to give a person sympathy for a sad or tragic event" (i.e. playing the "victim card"). I reverted the edit because 1.) it was a personal attack 2.) I and many others wanted the drama to die down. However, since you reverted the edit with the claim "he's a big boy, he can take it" theory, you did not only inflame the situation, but allowed for more attacks to occur. I thought you would get this concept, but I guess not? And thus, I removed this comment from your page for you to think about your comment. Critical thinking skills, perhaps? Gotta love it when you are an admin...or not. miranda 04:41, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit]these images which are from bollywoodblog.com, but listed under Wikimedia commons, they have to be deleted as well??? If not, can we use them in the articles? Regards, Shahid • Talk2me 14:05, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- If they're sourced from BollywoodBlog, they'll need to be deleted. ~ Riana ⁂ 14:08, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for the quick reply. I have only one more question. One image from Bollywoodblog was featured on Zinta's article, but was not licensed under bblog's license; it was a fair use image which was used to provide a critical commentary. Does it mean that it has to be deleted too? It wasn't a part of this bblog agreement. Shahid • Talk2me 14:17, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- No, fair use is fine. A real shame that the supposedly free images aren't really so :/ so we'll have to make do with fair use until we find an alternative. ~ Riana ⁂ 14:18, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yeh, that's very sad. All the articles look so empty now:(
- I asked you because Sarvagnya had speedied the image, and then I uploaded another one. Now the problem is, the bollyblog image was elongated and this one which I uploaded after he had deleted it, is widened. the bblog image looked like this and now the new one looks like this... Can I upload the bblog image again? the bb image looks so much better. Shahid • Talk2me 14:47, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- Could you give me the deleted link? I could restore it and you could fix the licensing so that you could use it under fair use. ~ Riana ⁂ 14:51, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- this is the deleted link. I uploaded the new image using the red link which remained on the page. I worked very hard to expand the critical commentary in the rationale section. Rather than emailing that media site did you think perhaps Devendra might have an associate you could reach personally?? I really think you should try asking Devendrea for this and if he refuses, then we might be more inclined to believe that he may have been lying to us. PLease respond to me because you don't normally listen to a single thing I say ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ $1,000,000? 14:08, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- Devendra gave me the name of a contact, whom I did attempt to get in touch with. I find it rather saddening that you don't think I listen to you, when I've done my best to mediate this entire thing. I don't think he's lying to us, more that he's confused about our copyright requirements, which are more stringent than most sites. ~ Riana ⁂ 06:57, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
- A little less rudeness and more AGF next time please, Blofeld. "you don't normally listen to a single thing I say" isn't very polite. — DarkFalls talk 08:52, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
Well that means something. No I am always appreciative of you as an editor Riana and are pretty resilient of a lot of crap you have to deal with on wiki you know this and I have congratulated you for this in the past and I admire your tolerance. Perhaps I was a little frusrated at Devendra seeming not to be a liar which I thought you agreed with and having spent so long making the agreement and then having it blown out of the window you didn't so much as speak a word to me about it. Its just often you seem very quiet, I leave messages or emails which I feel are fairly important and I often don't get a reply -perhaps you are busy, yet to some editors you seem a lot more open and willing to talk -this is what I was referring to. You probably don't have the time which is understandable. Best regards ♦ King of Baldness ♦ $1,000,000? 20:09, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Maybe add a new section "Pretend that we proposed it on the Saturday, and do the same as above [the RSVP]". Add a giant red box to the top alerting people to the new section (those who arrived from the bot-delivered message), and we'll see how the cookie crumbles? Daniel (talk) 11:28, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Riana. Thanks for the update. Would have preferred Sunday; not a good sign that the day had to be changed because of ppl of a certain religious conviction dominating the whinging, but I still might make it... Donama (talk) 01:45, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi -- I've been away for a while, and I'm still really on Wikibreak, but I had to check something and noticed the recent BollywoodBlog discussion. I know there's a non-free rationale for Image:PreityZintakank.jpg, but unless things have changed in the last few months, don't we still consider images of living people used to illustrate their articles as replaceable non-free content? Thanks. -- But|seriously|folks 05:43, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes - but in the absence of a better alternative, that's the best we can do right now. ~ Riana ⁂ 06:35, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Would you mind posting the terms of mentorship that AT has accepted to the RfC? I think it would ease the minds of those of us who have grave concerns about his use of the tools. Bellwether BC 19:26, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- He hasn't accepted any terms per se, he's merely accepted mentorship and said he trusts me with the terms. This is my proposal for mentorship, and to be honest - it's something that he's going to have to accept if he wants to stay as an admin. Ryan Postlethwaite 19:30, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, Ryan. Even though you occasionally suborn deletion of the main page ;) I trust your judgement as well. Would you mind bullet point-ing the various terms at the RfC main page or talk page, for posterity's sake? Bellwether BC 19:41, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
