Tonys

[edit]

Hi, there! The rule on alphabetising nominees is to ensure that no one gets undue weight over the others, aside from the winner of course. Therequiembellishere (talk) 07:53, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Winners and nominees tables

[edit]

Hi, you said, "all the other awards on Wiki have bolding for winners, keep for continuity unless do for all." I can understand you saying that. I guess I should have given a better explanation. The problem isn't so much the bold; it's when there is both bold and background coloring in the winner row. That is very unnecessary and redundant. While it's good to be consistent, going according to MOS is even more important. So, if there's going to be one or the other, it's better to remove the bold because bold really shouldn't be within a table. It should only be in the heading (top row and first column). So, I am in the process of correcting those that have both bold and shading. (By the way, some have just bold and some have just shading -- not "all" are the same now either.) Have a good day. --Musdan77 (talk) 20:28, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I finally finished it. I wanted to wait and submit the changes at the same time. I didn't plan on taking that long. --Musdan77 (talk) 19:10, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not saying that serious relationships or marriage should be in personal life, of course it should, but someone she's "linked to" romantically shouldn't be in it. It's not relevant enough until it becomes serious. You don't list every single person someone dated Lady Lotus (talk) 14:03, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Keala Settle

[edit]

Can you beef up the Keala Settle article. It is currently 932 characters. It needs to get to 1500 to be eligible for WP:DYK.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 06:18, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. notice Wikipedia_talk:Did_you_know#Proposal_for_a_day_of_67th_Tony_Awards_nominee_DYK_hooks. Feel free to create articles for other nominees.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 06:20, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I just noticed that you use bare urls for inline citations. I have added examples of proper citations at both Settle and Lauren Ward. If you continue to use bare urls it just creates work for other editors who have to fix your citations. Could you please fix your citations yourself.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:50, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bafta for best actress

[edit]

From 1952 to 1967 there was no single best actress award, as Bafta divided it among two sub groups; domestic and foreign, same goes for best actor BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, the two were amalgamated into one in 1968. The table should replicate the best actor award, not make up a new award that didn't exist.  — Chie one (talk) 14:02, 10 Jan 2014 (UTC)

You just linked me a page that you created. The best British award is indeed defunct, as is BEST FOREIGN award. As I have explained, there were two awards (domestic and foreign) that almagamted into one in 1968. Again, the best actress page should replicate the best actor page, not make up new awards that didn't exist. I assumed good faith the first time hence I explained the correct award, but now it is vandalism. I will request that you are blocked (you and your ip) if you continue vandalising articles — Chie one (talk) 15:35, 10 Jan 2014 (UTC)
You still don't get it..you linked me an awards page that didn't have two categories so naturally only best actress is shown. There was no best actress for bafta from 1952 to 1967...it was best British actress, best foreign actress...that's it. What you have done is create an award that didn't exist. The bafta for best actor page is exactly the awards that existed, and it is that page that should be replicated, not another awards page that has nothing in common. — Chie one (talk) 15:58, 10 Jan 2014 (UTC)
Here is Bafta awards from 1965 http://awards.bafta.org/explore?year=1965&type=film+ ..as you can see there is no "best actress" award that you have created. There was two sub groups (British, Foreign) both of which are now defunct, and combined into one best actress award in 1968.— Chie one (talk) 16:07, 10 Jan 2014 (UTC)
The note at the top was made up by you for an non existent award. I've explained it....there was no "best actress" award (I shall refer to bafta not a wiki user). Two awards existed and they we're called Best British actress, Best Foreign actress, nothing else.— Chie one (talk) 16:12, 10 Jan 2014 (UTC)

Best Actress

[edit]

First of all, you must not have read WP:BRD because it is you who should have started this discussion when I first reverted, and I shouldn't have had to revert again. You started an edit war (a big no no). Are you not the same person who I talked to before (several sections above)? Or is this someone else using this account?

Now, why would I say, "these links aren't valid because the articles don't mention them" if I didn't check them out first? Your edit is a contradiction. You unlink Norma Desmond (which I agree with), and I reverted the links for basically the same reason. If you really want these to be valid links then you're going to have to add those other names to those articles, or possibly add footnotes to the awards article (with a reference) -- one or the other. --Musdan77 (talk) 03:39, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nina Arianda

[edit]

Your edits at Nina Arianda had several flaws:

  1. The infobox was devoid of any information that couldn't be found immediatley to its left, except for the unsubstantiated claims that Arianda is a "Singer" and that her period of activity stated in 2009 – she graduated then, but that alone doesn't mean she didn't appear earlier or later.
  2. WP:LEAD discourages mentioning awards in an article's lead.
  3. You removed without explanation the external link to Playbill Vault.
  4. You introduced a duplicate section heading "External links"
  5. You added an external link to IMDb which was already used as a reference.

I corrected all these, plus I removed one irrelevant category and consolidated two identical references, and I mentioned all this in my edit summary. Instead of summarily reverting my edit without edit summary, you should have followed WP:BRD and discuss the reasons for your edit and my reversal at Talk:Nina Arianda. I have now explained here why your edits were unconstructive and why I reverted them. I suggest you self-revert your last edit. If you want to respond, please do so here, not on my talk page. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 06:17, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I believe your statement about awards is not completely accurate. I think what is discouraged is usage such as "Oscar Award-winning actor" in the opening sentence. A succinct mentioning of awards in the lede is perfectly legitimate: "He has won two Academy Awards." BMK (talk) 21:51, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits

[edit]

I have to take issue with some of your editing, especially when you reduce an already short lede paragraph down to a single sentence or two. Ledes are not intended to be as short as possible, they're supposed to be a succint summary of the article, and as such significant highlights of a subject's career can, and should, appear there. It's not meant to mention 'everything, but neither is is supposed to say "He was born, he lived, and he's an actor." Things that appear in the lede should also appear in the article itself, so removing material from the lede and moving it into the article is not necessarily a good thing.

Please be more careful with this in the future.

Also, do I take it that you are not a native English speaker? I ask because of your sometimes odd choices of tense, and your deliberate change of "a" to "an" in front of "British" in the lede to Valda Setterfield, a change that would fall badly on the ear of native English speakers. Your writing is generally fine, but I've had to make some strange little adjustments such as that to a number of your edits.

May 2014

[edit]

There are really two problems with the date of birth. First is that it is listed at all - usually the full date is omitted except for public figures, and she's a minor actress. Secondly is that it hasn't appeared in a reliable source that meets the standards of WP:V. The fact that this is a living person makes it all the more important that we be careful with this kind of thing. Yes, I saw that in IMDB, but we have the same problem there because IMDB also uses reader contributions. Coretheapple (talk) 18:15, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

well like I said, I read several interviews with her and about her career, and being born in 1941 fits her career path. she was active in the theatre back in the 70's and also started late as an actress, not moving to New York until 1977. (if she was born in 1941, should would have already been 30 in 1971). She also said she lives in the West Village in New York City, where Jane Street is.

Her full real name is not Marylouise, it's just Mary, she chose Marylouise as her stage name (Louise IS her middle name) and FamilySearch.com is simply a registry of public official documents, and only once so far have I found if the age of the person is available, it was wrong, which was obvious because I knew that person wasn't that old, but here I feel the 1941 age fits. Marylouise is a great actress and I plan on filling out her page soon with all the details of her career. HesioneHushabye (talk) 18:23, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You're probably right, but I think that we need explicit sources for a BLP for a person who is of marginal notability and just not well known at all. If you can find a source published in year X giving her age as Y, then we can make the calculation and give it in the proper way in the article. There is a technique for doing that, but I've never used it. By the way, I erred; this discussion should really be in the article talk page. Coretheapple (talk) 18:27, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Rosamund Pike

[edit]

Hi HesioneHushabye, have Rosamund Pike's birth records been published anywhere? Otherwise they aren't a usable source. In a recent interview with the Austrian newspaper "Kurier", Pike said (my translation): "I know that all kinds of wrong information about me are circulating on the internet. None of them are true. Neither my date of birth nor my middle name nor my parents' occupation. Both are opera singers, and my mother isn't a concert violinist, as claimed. Neither do I speak the languages I allegedly know" [i.e. French and German]. – Schneid9 (talk) 18:04, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well her middle named was always in the article with a source from a British birth record website. a vandal deleted the source for whatever reason, I am in America and can't easily look up the source again but if you click on "View History" and go down to previous version, you will see that someone already verified it. HesioneHushabye (talk) 18:24, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the first time someone added "Mary E" to the article (without a source) was on 7 March 2010. On 27 March 2011 someone expanded the "E" to "Elizabeth", again without a source. I've been watching the article for years and don't remember seeing any source for the middle names. Besides, we have a published statement from herself that at least one of the two middle names is wrong. As long as we don't know more, I think it's safer to just leave them out completely. – Schneid9 (talk) 19:15, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah that's fine, I'm sure with her being in the spotlight with the Oscars this year for Gone Girl, we might get a confirmation on it. I"m pretty sure the "Mary Elizabeth" isn't just made up though. HesioneHushabye (talk) 20:19, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In the meantime I've found an entry in the "England and Wales Birth Registration Index 1837-2008" confirming the middle name "Mary E". I'll add this to the article as a source. In view of this record it seems likely that Pike was just referring to the name "Elizabeth" when she said that the middle name circulating on the internet was wrong. – Schneid9 (talk) 21:16, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ah! good find , hopefully she'll confirm what the " E " stands for eventually HesioneHushabye (talk) 21:27, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please use proper citations at 87th Academy Awards

[edit]

Hi HesioneHushabye. Thanks for trying to improve the 87th Academy Awards article. However, I noticed that some of your edits introduced serious problems with adding improperly sourced information. For example, you edit here added a bunch of presenters, but the reference you added, <ref name=silvermanpresent/>, did not verify that those people would be performing. Also, your edit here changed Adam Levine to Maroon 5, when the source only confirmed that Levine would be performing, not Maroon 5. Furthermore, with that edit you changed Rita Ora to Jennifer Hudson but didn't change the reference, which only talked about Hudson. There are many more examples that I've had to fix. Please pay close attention to references when making future edits, only add information that is backed up by a citation to a reliable source, and be careful when copying and pasting. Thanks. --Ahecht (TALK

Information icon Hello, I'm MrX. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Lana Tisdel, but you didn’t support your changes with a citation to a reliable source, so I removed it. Wikipedia has a strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. - MrX 23:22, 23 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry you clearly didn't click on any of the links, the reference to her marriage to Josh Bachman is from the official state of Nebraska marriage licence page, it doesn't get more accurate then that. HesioneHushabye (talk) 23:48, 23 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I did. It's not a good idea to use WP:PRIMARY sources like court records for private information about a living person. However, my bigger concerns are that you removed citation needed tags, which is not a good idea unless you actually add citations to reliable sources. You also added private information about living people from other self-published sources (murderpedia.org and classmates.com) which violates WP:BLPSPS and is not allowed. While this is an acceptable source, the material added is trivial and doesn't belong in an encyclopedia. I strongly urge you self-revert your edit and carefully read [[WP:BLP|our policy on editing biographies of living people].- MrX 00:06, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I removed citation needed tags because someone added them for information that can be verified in the sources already used, and it's frowned upon to use citations twice. Just because there isn't a reference after a paragraph doesn't mean the information is not cited elsewhere in the page. Someone is going around adding those tags all over pages making them difficult to read and cluttered. What counts as a "valid website" can be argued, and that doesn't mean that the content they publish is not fact. I have happened to research this case a lot and I know what is fact and what isn't. Lana Tisdel is a public figure because of the Oscar winning film Boy's Don't Cry, so there is a public interest in her personal life and her whereabouts. HesioneHushabye (talk) 00:11, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It is absolutely not frowned upon to use citations twice. Citations should be used for every instance that you are stating a potentially contentious fact about a living person. Wikipedia even has a special feature to make reusing citations within an article easier. --Ahecht (TALK

Please explain reversed revision regarding Candice in Boys Don't Cry.

[edit]

The statement is not referencing a song, it is referencing a person. Whether the person was from Texas is not what is being referenced. What setting was changed to Texas? What "setting" is it referring to? There is no setting in the film in Texas. Thank you. Gabe1972 (talk) 17:13, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what you are talking about. The film Boy's Don't Cry is set in Texas. The real-life events the film is based on happened in Nebraska. I think you are reading the sentences wrong. The sentence before that says the film changed Lisa Lambert's name (a real person) to Candace. That whole paragraph is just explaining to the reader the difference between the real story and the film. HesioneHushabye (talk) 17:24, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I realize the edit was to Lana Tisdale's page, not Boy's Don't Cry, so I'm glad you knew what I meant. As for the edit, the movie was filmed in Texas, because it was cheaper, but it is set in Nebraska. This is why I deleted the statement that the setting was changed to Texas. There was no setting in the entire film that had anything to do with Texas, save the song. The film takes place entirely in Nebraska, and nothing whatsoever was changed to Texas, hence the deletion of that statement. Most of the film takes place in and around Falls City, Nebraska, and some in Lincoln, Nebraska. No Texas, whatsoever. Gabe1972 (talk) 22:20, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but you are false, the director Kimberly Pierce kept the city names but changed it to Texas, and that's why the movie's theme song is " The Bluest Eyes in Texas ". They changed the setting to Texas because of how conservative Texas is compared to Nebraska. HesioneHushabye (talk) 22:53, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please look at any synopsis of the film, from whatever site you like. Please look at reviews of the film. Please look at IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, Flixter, etc. The film takes place in Nebraska. The towns are even stated in the film. There is no Lincoln or Falls City, TX. It takes place in NEBRASKA. It was FILMED in Texas, but takes place in nowhere but Nebraska. Please, if you have a copy of the film, watch it. No setting, whatsoever, takes place anywhere but Nebraska. I don't know where you are getting this from, but it is completely incorrect. Information icon Hello, I'm Doniago. I noticed that you made a change to an article, List of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School alumni, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. DonIago (talk) 14:41, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your change totally confused me. I could not understand what you were trying to do and so I undid it (with a edit summary showing the edit really nonplussed me). What were you wanting to do? You changed a character's name into a link, to Melvin Dummar - huh? Could you do the edit over again? Shenme (talk) 06:00, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's simple. Linda (West) Dummar is a real living person, the first wife of Melvin Dummar. She doesn't have her own page (yet) so if a reader wanted to learn about Lynda Dummar (especially since Mary Steenburgen won an Academy Award for playing her, so there is public interest in Linda) they can at least follow the link to Melvin's page where there is info about their life. Thanks and a little explanation

Hi, it's Birdienest81 again.

I know you are not a fan of the guidelines for Wikipedia:Manual of Style particularly regarding featured lists, but we did agree awhile back with The Rambling Man that there be consistency amongst all the Academy Awards acting list. I try to adhere to the feedback that my colleagues have given me to improve these lists over at WP:FLC. We even made a compromise by allowing the daggers to have space from the winner's name. As you can see the table is sortable so that anybody can change the order alphabetically by name, film, or character. That way people can find a certain name. Do not worry, I won't touch the other lists you're interested in. I'm only concerned about the Oscars (and some sports).

--Birdienest81 (talk) 06:11, 3 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's fine. I appreciate that you are willing to work with others to make sure the lists are something everyone likes, and agrees upon (within the guidelines of WP:FLC). HesioneHushabye (talk) 06:21, 3 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Elizabeth Barrett Browning

[edit]

Hi. I've reverted your move of Elizabeth Barrett Browning to EB. As far as I am aware, EBB is by far the most common name used for her. Even if I am wrong, such a move must be discussed first as a "potentially controversial move", please see WP:RM#CM for how to kick off a move request if you wish to do so. --Mirokado (talk) 14:54, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

From what I understand, her published works are under the name Elizabeth Barrett, which she is most commonly known as, and as an artist and writer, women rarely take on their husbands names. She had began writing before she married. HesioneHushabye (talk) 15:03, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Page moves

[edit]

Hi Hesione, please don't move any more titles without a requested-move discussion. You're moving them away from their common names. Many thanks, Sarah (talk) 16:14, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Well I disagree with you, women are not defined by their husbands last names and these women are known for being more than just "wives". HesioneHushabye (talk) 16:32, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you completely, but it's a question of using the name the women used. Where there's a clash between that and the name the sources have chosen, I'd support the former, but not everyone would agree with that. In the case of Vivienne Haigh-Wood Eliot, I think she would not want to be separated from that surname, and the sources tend to call her that too (or some variation of it e.g. Vivien Eliot). Sarah (talk) 16:58, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have partly reverted your deletion of content from the Karen Friedman talk page. Removal of historical discussions without establishing an archive seems problematic because editors arriving at the page for the first time would not know that certain topics have been discussed before without trawling through the history. I have established an archive page with the content you deleted. For similar reasons, removing templates informing users of previous deletion processes also seems problematic. The presence of these templates is recommended by [WP:Deletion process], and I see no reason to remove them, I have thus restored them. If you have a problem with that let me know. Your reverting of Roxxxy Andrews

[edit]

You reverted back to the pre-redirect state there, but the subject appears to me to still not reach the WP:GNG or more specific notability guidelines—or at least, if it does, the article doesn't make this clear. More importantly, however, is that you reverted the page back to being an unsourced BLP--which is a bit problematic. I reverted it back to being a redirect, at least for now. If I interrupted you while you were planning to add sources and content to the article, my apologies--however, I saw that it had been over half an hour since your only edit to the article and you made some edits to another article, so it looked at least to me like you're not actively editing it at the moment. If I was wrong, my apologies again. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 08:53, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think if you leave the page up, editors will flesh it out and make it complete, there is enough sources online to do it, but no I was not going to take the time to do it. Roxxxy being on All Stars right now will probably create enough buzz on her that someone will create a page for her. HesioneHushabye (talk) 08:59, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Probably, and if it had been on a different subject than the Biography of a Living Person, I likely would have left things alone--however, had it been a new article, this would be a case worthy of a WP:BLPPROD. Due to the fact that it's not actually new and has a version (the redirect) in its history that doesn't have that problem, it wouldn't be the right action here, but not doing something leaves a risk, no matter how small, of the page remaining an unsourced BLP for longer than is acceptable by Wikipedia's rules. I'll see if I can't dig up a few good sources and add them when I have some time, though—that would solve both issues.AddWittyNameHere (talk) 09:09, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, HesioneHushabye. Thank you for your work on Bonnie Stoll. Bastun, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Hi HesioneHushabye, nice work on your new article. If possible, I would recommend extending the career section, especially with details on Stoll's racquetball career. Good job!

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Bastun}}. Please remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

A tag has been placed on The Outsiders (muscal) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. CycloneYoris talk! 06:39, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I already moved the article to the correctly spelled title at The Outsiders (musical). Why are you re-creating the same article at the misspelled title? Can't you see that the article's title is misspelled, and that the word "musical" isn't written properly? CycloneYoris talk! 06:43, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't see that at first, thanks for your help! HesioneHushabye (talk)

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Happily888 (talk) 11:29, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi HesioneHushabye! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. Happily888 (talk) 11:29, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi HesioneHushabye. Thank you for your work on Amber Iman. Another editor, Broc, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

Nice page. I would strongly recommend avoiding bare URLs as references. You can use tools such as Citer tool to format them automatically with {{cite web}} templates.
