Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Researchclari! Your additions to Draft:Memory Studies Association have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — SamX [talk · contribs] 21:37, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for explaining, I will make the revisions and make sure that the draft does follow the Wikipedia policy practices. 191.241.68.104 (talk) 21:42, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

[edit] As previously advised, your edits give the impression you have a financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. You were asked to cease editing until you responded by either stating that you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits, or by complying with the mandatory requirements under the Wikimedia Terms of Use that you disclose your employer, client and affiliation. Again, you can post such a disclosure on your user page at User:Researchclari, and the template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Researchclari|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. Please respond before making any other edits to Wikipedia. 331dot (talk) 19:45, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for clarifying the situation. I was not informed of this mandatory requirements. However, I am not being payed for creating this page. This was a project while I was at University, we had a Wikipedia Week in which we had to create new entries and my group and I tried to do one for the Memory Studies Association. As you can see I've been trying to create it for the last 3 years I think. I know a lot of information of this association because I was a non-paid intern for 8 months, and a professor is one of the founders, so she was always talking about. How can I proceed? Researchclari (talk) 20:11, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- I asked because You claim that you personally created and personally own the copyright to the logo of the organization. Is that the case? 331dot (talk) 19:35, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- I see the problem now. I mistakenly claimed that, no I have no rights on the logo. It will be removing the image from here, how can I do it? Could you help me? Researchclari (talk) 10:23, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- To remove it from the draft, just edit the draft to remove the file name from the infobox. You must go to Commons and request deletion of the logo. Their website says "all rights reserved" so the logo cannot be used under a free license. It may be possible to later use it under "fair use" rules as a non free image, though non free images cannot be in drafts.
- Images are not relevant to the draft process, which only considers the text and sources. Images can wait until the draft is accepted and placed in the encyclopedia. 331dot (talk) 10:49, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot for explaining it to me! I have removed it from the draft, and requested a nominated deletion from Commons (is that the right way of doing it)? Researchclari (talk) 11:05, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, thank you. 331dot (talk) 11:55, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
