WikiProject Bahrain

Hi, having recently tried to boost WikiProject Venezuela, I came across your remark about Bahrain, so I adapted a few things I did for WP:VEN. Hope you find it useful. Rd232 talk 18:01, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi. Yes it seems quite useful. Thanks for the change. :) Rehman(+) 02:47, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Country templates

Hi Rehman, I think you've been led astray: if you look in Category:Country templates you'll see that these categories are standard. They are logically separate from "template-class" articles (which is to do with WP.10 assessment, while the simple template category is more generic). Rd232 talk 07:38, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi. Sorry, my fault. I didnt notice that. Thanks for pointing it out. Regards. Rehman(+) 08:42, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Hydro power plants in China

Hello, and thank you for your recent work on hydroelectric stations in China!

As you can see, presently some articles on this topic are categorized under Category:Dams in China, while others are under its subcat, Category:Hydroelectric power stations in China. There seems to be no rhyme or reason why some stations are in one category and others are in the other; I guess different editors just cataloged them differently. In practice, of course, pretty much all hydro power stations have a dam, and most dams about which we have articles are hydroelectric dams. (There may exist also dams for flood control, etc, but I think we have very few articles on those). Would you like to make a decision on how all these 40+ articles should be categorized (based on your experience with similar articles for other countries, maybe), and then to move them accordingly?

Besides, currently most stations are also categorized under something like Category:Yellow River and Category:Buildings and structures in Sichuan. Considering that there are still many dozens of articles to be created,I wonder if we may consider creating special categories for say Category:Dams on the Yellow River or Category:Hydroelectric power stations in Sichuan, and then place them as subcats into the appropriate categories? I would do it myself in some cases, but I can't choose between "Dams" and "Hydroelectric power stations"! Vmenkov (talk) 12:26, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Hello Vmenkov. You seem to have a fair point on the categorizations, and i do agree that those (and many others) needs total rearrangement. As for the hydroelectric power stations in China, i think its better to be categorized per administrative regions (map). If we do this, do you think a "Category:Hydroelectric power stations in Shaanxi" would be better, or a more parent-type "Category:Power stations in Shaanxi"? As for the Category:Dams in China (and similar categories), i think we should use that only as a parent category. What do you think? Rehman(+) 13:02, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
1) I think we should primarily have cats such as Category:Hydroelectric power stations in Shaanxi, so that it can be included both into Category:Buildings and structures in Shaanxi (or maybe also "Economy of Shaanxi") and into Category:Hydroelectric power stations in China. Now, when we also have articles on thermal or nuclear power plants in a province, then it probably would make sense to nest Category:Hydroelectric power stations in Shaanxi in Category:Power stations in Shaanxi.
2) I agree with your plan, i.e. that it would make sense to empty (or almost empty) Category:Dams in China, moving all hydro dams into Category:Hydroelectric power stations in China (which can remain to be a subcat of Category:Dams in China, since pretty much all hydro power plants have a dam). So only the rare non-power-producing dams will remain directly in Category:Dams in China. --- Vmenkov (talk) 14:28, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes, this seems perfectly fine to me ... Rehman(+) 14:38, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Resuming task

And of course some hydro stations don't need a dam - just a mountain and a long pipe do the job... -- Vmenkov (talk) 06:19, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello Vmenkov. Sorry, i just realize that the above discussion didnt end properly; the task wasn't carried out . To make things easier for editors in the future, i suggest we categorize all the power stations in China, including hydro. Summarizing the above decision, we could categorize the articles into the:

  • 22 Provinces
  • 05 Autonomous regions
  • 04 Municipalities
  • 02 Special administrative regions

To make things easier, we could start off with the hydros first, and then move on to others. Categories could be structured as follows (examples):

  • Category:Power stations in China
    • Category:Power stations in Xinjiang (one of the 33 main regions)
      • Category:Coal power stations in Xinjiang
      • Category:Hydroelectric power stations in Xinjiang
      • Category:[the other types of power stations]

Dams that are used for other purposes (irrigation, etc) than hydroelectricity may be directly categorized in Category:Dams in China, or be further sub-categorized into regions as above (i.e. Category:Dams in Xinjiang); which i think should be carried out after all the current tasks are carried out, just to save our brains from popping out. Tasks on special categories such as Category:Dams on the Yangtze River shall be carried after everything else is done. Rehman(+) 05:56, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Good to hear that you have plan. Sounds like a good scheme. While I am not going to go on a big re-categorization spree myself, I'll follow the above scheme whenever I happen to edit a hydro power plant article in the future.
Incidentally, I don't have objections to listing the "hydroelectric stations" category as a subcat of the "dams" category, even though (as I should have realized sooner some of the smaller stations don't actually have a dam [see the picture]). I think that this categorization makes sense from the pragmatic point of view, since we'll primarily have articles about large (or largish) stations with dams, and aren't likely to have many articles about the smaller "damless" ones. Vmenkov (talk) 06:19, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
Alright then, lets move on with this. We can treat the "Category:Hydroelectric power stations in [region]" category as sub-category of "Category:Dams in [region]", it seems to suit well. See you around. Kind regards. Rehman(+) 06:53, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Lunar eclipse vs. lunar phase

Someone responded to your message on Talk:Lunar eclipse. Can you now tell the differences between the two? ;) serioushat 05:16, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello. The difference between the two is that a Lunar Eclipse is when earth cast a shadow on the moon. Whereas a Lunar Phase is basically when we could see the unlit side of the moon, which some confuse it as the shadow of the earth (like me, when i posted that). Hope this helps. Kind regards. List of power stations in China Edit Dilemma

Rehman, I am having problems with user Generalhuo (talk · contribs) on List of power stations in China. He keeps adding entries and when doing it, it deletes existing entries. He also has a confusing problem with referencing them. I keep reverting him and he keeps reverting back. I see you wrote on his talk page before. Please see Talk:List of power stations in China for more. I am not sure what to do, is this a need for an administrator if he doesn't stop? Thanks --NortyNort (talk) 20:26, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 21:54, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Thank you Courcelles. Although I am a bit off-wiki these days, I am hoping to resume work in a month or so. Have a nice day. Rehman(+) 07:27, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Undiscussed redirects to Hydroelectricity

Really bad move. Undiscussed, and some of the (just from those I've looked at so far) are quite inappropriate. One day discussion of a merger, then doing it at 6 in the morning so that no-one else sees you doing it? That is not the way to work. Andy Dingley (talk) 09:57, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Hello Andy. I strongly agree with you that my move here was bad, and I apologise. But I dont see why you mention "doing it at 6 in the morning so that no-one else sees you doing it"; it just happens to be the time I start my work. And I do not have anything against those article(s). In fact it is the first time I came across those; why would I want to hide my work anyway? I dont see your comment above as civil as its supposed to be. Rehman(+) 10:39, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Power stations & categories

Your RfA

I hate to be the one who has to do this, but I'm afraid I closed your RfA early since the consensus is sadly very clear that the community doesn't feel you're ready yet. I know it's not a pleasant experience, but don't be too disheartened by it all. If you feel you can better serve the community with the extra buttons, then get to know the areas you want to work in- WP:RPP, for example, can always benefit from helpful comments by non-admins and non-admins participate in many other admin areas. If your wish is to work in CSD, then you would need considerable experience of patrolling Special:NewPages and tagging articles that meet the criteria. If you spent 6 months considerably broadening your level of experience in the "behind-the-scenes" areas that admins work in and found yourself a good nominator- an experienced admin is best- you may have a good chance in a third attempt. You might also like to participate in RfA to get to know the standards expected of candidates. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 00:50, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

Hello Mitchell. I understand. Will now work on increasing my activity in admin-related areas before any further nomination. Thank you very much for participating, and for this comment. I have also set up a page so that editors can submit post-RFA comments. Thanks again. Best regards. Rehman(+) 02:54, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

File:Antarctica 6400px from Blue Marble.jpg

Hi, I am happy to see that you are training yourself. The practice for pictures like File:Antarctica 6400px from Blue Marble.jpg which have been featured pictures (or current candidates) is that the page is not deleted from Wikipedia. For talk pages of pictures, I dont' delete project tags, but others may. Projects are tracking these for some reason, and this is the way to connected them to commons. Any other method would be more work, copying talk to commons and checking attribution is correct. Or making a list of pages move to commons for a project. If the file talk is useless however, then I delete it. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:11, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Graeme. Thank you for the tip. Will take extra caution when coming across such files in the future. Kind regards. Rehman(+) 00:39, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

GeoGroupTemplate for Indian power stations

Hi Rehman, I believe this it is OK to have "GeoGroupTemplate" for the list of power stations in india. We can hide different category of power plants and make it more informative. Lets have it on this list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ravitkmmc (talkcontribs) 08:59, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Ravi. I didn't remove the template to keep it away from the article. I removed it because it is already included in the article under the "See also" section. If you would like to have the template on top, you may do so, but remember to not duplicate it twice in the same article. Feel free to contact me if you need any help. Regards. Solar parks articles by User:Dofir23

Hi, Rehman. Checking the new articles' list I found that user:Dofir23 had created a number of solar parks stubs. These stubs are quite messy, missing categories etc and mainly created by copy-paste from exenewable.com website which raises copyvio concerns. A number of these stubs are already speedy deleted. I personally think that speedy deletion is not the best solution here and we should try to fix these problems. Maybe you are interested to take a look at these stubs? Beagel (talk) 06:53, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi Rehman. I received this message from Beagel too. It could be counterproductive for both of us to get involved. So maybe I will let you take care of these, if that is ok... Johnfos (talk) 07:04, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
Hi Beagel and Johnfos, thank you for the message. I have responded at WT:Energy. Kind regards. Rehman(+) 08:09, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Churchill Falls

Hi Rehman. You've placed a {{split}} proposal on Churchill Falls last April. Since no one replied and you've placed the banner 5 months ago, I intend to proceed with the split and create Churchill Falls Generating Station over the week-end. If you don't mind, I would appreciate your feedback and second pair of eyes on the old and new articles. Take care. Bouchecl (talk) 23:50, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi. I thought splitting would be a good idea since only a speck of it is about the real falls, while the rest is just about the power station... I look forward in the split and am willing to help out wherever I can. Regarding capitalization, I am not sure whether "Generating Station" should be lowercase or uppercase, but I guess we could move it around if issues come up... ;) Thank for informing. Kind regards. Dobrogea Wind Farm

Hi, Rehman. There is a merger discussion of Dobrogea Wind Farm and Fântânele Wind Farm articles. Your opinion is appreciated. Beagel (talk) 11:45, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for informing. I'm a little confused with that proposal, will try and help if I can. Thanks. Rehman(+) 13:00, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

I saw a possible merge today and wanted to run it past you since you help organize a lot of the renewable lists and may know more about these articles. Solar power in Greece is pretty much a list but if you look at the Solar power in Europe nav template in the article, some of the related articles seem to be less list-like. Should it be merged into List of power stations in Greece? NortyNort (Holla) 09:49, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I think it goes well if it were merged. Actually, I created List of power stations in Greece just as a stub some time back to save info during a merge at hydro lists. So since it has near-zero edit history, I think the target page should be deleted, and the current solar article moved over. This helps avoid unnecessary splitting of the original page history. What do you think? Rehman(+) 10:06, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Well, the Solar power in Romania article, for example, has just text and is a lot different than the Greece article. So I think a merge should be proposed. The user who created the page appears to be most active only on the Greek Wikipedia. So, I am not sure if they are planning on expanding it. I think the lists should be merged anyway. Also, you don't have to put talk backs on my talk page, I watch your talk page.--NortyNort (Holla) 11:32, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Got it. So I will be starting on the merge. We can always undo if things turn different. Rehman(+) 11:41, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Talk:Solar power in Greece

Couple of things here: (1) "List" and "Solar" were rated separately, so "Solar" ratings shouldn't be applied to a "List" page, and (2) the comment says that perhaps it should be moved; since this has already happened, it's really not that significant. Nyttend (talk) 13:52, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi. Sure; the article is pretty much a work in progress... Rehman(+) 09:26, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
No longer including reservoirs in the list. If I am not mistaken, Sri Lanka has hundreds (if not, thousands) of individual reservoirs. Most of which is not directly associated with any type of dam. Thus merging these two separate topics seems somewhat impractical. Rehman(+) 12:54, 23 September 2010 (UTC) Most reservoirs are in some way associated with a dam. My fault. Will add it in when I have the time. Rehman(+) 10:01, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Thank for your message about {{Infobox power station (temp)}}. I've updated the template to move the Coordinates row below the Locale row. — Richardguk (talk) 20:26, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks Richard; looks good! Rehman(+) 00:41, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the further message about {{Infobox power station}}. I'm not an expert in CSS, but I think the problem is with cellpadding=1 in the table formatting at the start. This sets that internal margin to 1 pixel using HTML, apparently overriding to 5 pixel CSS padding. You might want to experiment with removing cellpadding=1 or replacing it with cellpadding=5 (but the latter change will also increase the vertical internal margins). Hope that helps. — Richardguk (talk) 22:34, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, looks great! Kind regards. Rehman 02:48, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi Rehman. Saw that infobox. Looks gorgeous. I know I'm a bit late, but have you discussed including GHG emissions in the fossil plant layout? Bouchecl (talk) 03:55, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

plus Added. Hi. Thanks! Adding a slot for green house gas emissions is a cool idea. Added it! ;) Rehman(+) 10:49, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

I noticed you left a message with Tuduser (talk · contribs) [2]. Tuduser's editing appears to be part of a larger problem which is being discussed here, in case you're interested in contributing. --Ronz (talk) 00:38, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

Bad deletion requests

{{db-imagepage}} does not apply to image talk pages. Per WP:CSD#G8: "[G8] excludes any page that is useful to the project [including] ... talk pages for images that exist on Wikimedia Commons". In other words, we are allowed to have a separate local discussion pages for images that exist on Commons (assuming they have distinct content), and such image talk pages are not a candidate for CSD G8.

Such pages are admittedly rather problematic, since comments made on the local image talk page are unlikely to be seen, but they aren't something that needs to be deleted per se. I've started a discussion about this at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#Image talk pages for Commons.27 images, because we really should look for a better way to handle these pages.

Related to this, you also should almost never blank a page with you request its deletion. This has the potential to confuse admins and lead them to act incorrectly. It is better that they see both the reason for the deletion and any pre-existing content. Dragons flight (talk) 18:31, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Oops. Sorry for that. I really thought {{db-imagepage}} is the way to go. And I also thought such tags normally should replace the content. Thanks for starting the discussion, I will join soon. Kind regards. Rehman(+) 00:57, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

Tasmanian items

Hi you might note that I have changed some material you were doing in July this year - please feel free to ask for further refs or explanations as to why I might have changed things - as I felt there was a need to not confuse the reader with the possible misunderstanding that the current Lake Pedder is anything to do with the 1970 Lake Pedder - they are very different things - and it does a disservice to the hundreds of thousands of Australians who objected to the whole scheme (as well as those died in relation to the issue) - to have a conflation of information that does not relate to the historical accuracy of the situation - thanks SatuSuro 13:56, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for notifying, and thanks for fixing. My bad there. ;) Rehman(+) 13:58, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
Nah no big deal - problem with some projects like the Tasmanian one - it is very easy to get some of the things confused - the general terminology of the politics of the stuff in the 1970's and 1980's - and what the hydro got up to are things I should have created many extra articles about long ago - to balance the protest material about the Franklin river - but for me - having lived there before it happened (The Franklin..) but after the {Lake Pedder damming...) I took all these photos of the places - but I cannot afford the scanner I need to get stuff off the slides and the negatives - so I have to fish around for old dirty prints (like on my user page) ... anyways I tend to get very talkative about this stuff - Ill let you off a full 500 kb comment, I'll get out of your way - cheers :) SatuSuro 14:07, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
Heheh. Thanks buddy ;) See you around! Rehman(+) 14:18, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Reverting WP:RM closure

Rehman, you can't simply revert a WP:RM closure because you don't like it. If you want to relist it, then do so by all means, but you didn't do that.[3]. Regards, Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 10:35, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi. I'm sorry, I thought that was the way to relist (simply to re-nominate)... Thanks for pointing out... Rehman(+) 22:29, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
