Airport collaboration

I deleted them because there is no such thing as an Airport collaboration, and so neither category is needed or will be used. - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 15:26, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Mark Clattenberg

Was there anything wrong with what I entered? I didn't fill it full of insults, just recorded the events of a prominent, recent event in his career. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RoyalBlueStuey (talkcontribs) 08:00, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Cleanup Taskforce

Please feel free to assign yourself tasks from the list of unassigned tasks at Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce. Arranging assignments is too much work for me to do by myself. We have a large backlog of unassigned tasks and there is probably something in there that will interest you. RJFJR 22:10, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Re: Creating user account

Hi. Finally got around to creating the account I promised (I was the one involved in the Mark Clattenburg discussion).

It's disappointing to hear of situations in which the authorities have let down a referee in terms of support and it's certainly not the first time I've heard mention of this, even with my limited experience. With the level of respect referees are shown at the top levels taking a big slide in recent seasons, it's particularly frustrating that the FA time and again choose to keep silent over controversial performances. At the very least, they should take the opportunity to point out the meaning of the phrase 'at the discretion of the referee' to the public after such instances as the recent Merseyside derby. I, for one, would have had my nerve tested after receiving such criticism without any backing.

I greatly appreciate the welcome to Wikipedia and, although I suspect I will be an infrequent user, I look forward to bumping into you again soon. All the best. Tugoh 23:03, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Respond

Yeah, I have been having a bad-luck streak lately. I broke my glasses, I left some stuff at my workspace, I got stuck behind a slow-driving truck, which caused me to be late to an appointment, and there were a few spyware/phishing attacks on my computer (which caused me to change my password on wikipedia). I sure hope the streak of bad luck edits soon. :( EoL talk 01:12, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi there. I live here too. Guess you're a Bowyer's victim? Just dropping a line in case you know of any local (Bath/Bristol) meetups happening. Is there a mailing list or something? Cheers. --Rodhullandemu (talk - contribs) 15:26, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Clattenberg (again sorry)

That derby game was controversial...I take your point that there is no need to go into the minutiae of the various incidents but A: The version I edited was clunky and B: it makes no mention of the other incidents. Penalty appeals come and go, you win some you lose some. The reason the game is noteworthy is because there was 4 or 5 controversial decisions. It is important to note this otherwise it looks like the home fans are getting wound-up by one single incident. This patently isn't the case. Either record the facts or don't mention the game at all. Seriously, I don't see why you edit out my completely factual, none-abusive entry RoyalBlueStuey 09:23, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

PS I added my points above to the Clattenburg talk page...I wonder if Marc really knows how much trouble he caused lolololol. That was a VERY murky business though a ref who goes away with a team on a pre-season jolly and then is seen to be told which card to dish out, takes a solid 30 seconds of angry abuse, lets a two-footer go and then waves away very credible penalty claim etc etc. All against the home team! It does leave you open to accusations RoyalBlueStuey 16:14, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

I wouldn't know anything about the "jolly" you are referring to, but whatever it is it seems to have slipped back into a Blue bias once more. Don't forget this isn't private email, this is a public talk page. Best wishes. Ref (chew)(do) 20:15, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
I don't care if my address is visible. Wikipedia in general and this person in particular is participating in the protection of an incompetent and possibly corrupt referee. They won't hear a word against him.
I searched Wikipedia for intelligent comment on this individual, because I wanted to know what was going on with this cretin. I corrected a couple of obvious RS comments and get a ban from editing. LFC fans, you always ruin everything for everyone when you aren't winning, so I'm gonna fight you on this —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.13.200.15 (talk) 02:55, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Liverpool? Me? Sorry, I follow Swindon Town and perhaps Brighton after having lived there for a while. I don't know what you are inferring otherwise. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 12:50, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

David Bowie

I removed genres that were too vague or inaccurate. For example, Bowie most certainly never played Krautrock. WesleyDodds (talk) 12:06, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Krautrock is by definition German progressive rock of the early to mid 1970s. While Bowie was certainly inspired by the music, he himself was not a Krautrock artist. It's like how the Bangles can't be a British Invasion band, being an American group from the 1980s, no matter how much they draw influence from British Invasion groups. WesleyDodds (talk) 12:17, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

I note that you have started an article on the above named. As he seems to have played in the 1874 FA Cup Final (with his brother on the opposite side) and the 1877 FA Cup Final presumably this should be mentioned in the article.

He's obviously NOT the same William Rawson who was Vice-chancellor of the University of Cambridge in 1493! Happy editing. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 12:54, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Here is the archived discussion regarding the deletion of the above image. There were no dissenting opinions, so I deleted the image. It is a very low resolution image and there were three other higher resolution images on the page already. This image did not seem to offer anything unique? -Nv8200p talk 23:01, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Seems only fair to restore the image for further discussion. If you want, you can comment here -Regards Nv8200p talk 00:37, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Regarding the Geany Entry

Lee,

Thanks for explaining some issues regarding the geany article. I do admit that it is the editor i currently use as I feel it suits my needs as a programmer best. The main reason I wouldn't want it deleted is because one of the most useful purposes for me when I use wikipedia(besides looking up information itself) is when I see the entries that list similar pieces of software (list of video editors, list of open source games, list of audio editors, etc) which lets me quickly go through and find the best one that suits my needs. I am hoping to keep Geany on there for a similar purpose for other users as a link from the "list of text editors" article on wikipedia that contains links to similar programs such as scribes, gedit, etc. I hope the admin undeletes it because of this, however I understand that such a choice is "in their court" so to speak.

Regards, Rob 64.185.24.92 (talk) 02:25, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi again, Rob. I understand your frustration; there are indeed useful lists of this and that in Wikipedia, masquerading as articles mainly, but their inclusion has always been contentious, on points of notability mainly. Moderate lists started off being approved as a small part of a parent article, progressing from there to become articles containing just a list of notable items, such as the List of social networking websites, and proven as notable by each entry in the list being linked to its Wikipedia article (thus controversially transferring notability from the item to the list itself, although notability by association is normally a big no-no here).
I too have favourite subjects in life which I think would deserve an article. However, I realise that I shouldn't get involved in the creation or expansion of such articles (unless I believed that I could truly approach the subject from a neutral point of view, and that's more difficult sometimes than you think).
Thanks for your good-natured reply - some editors might take exception at "interference" from another editor. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 02:30, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

David Bowie revert war

So it goes. I'd recommend just taking the slow revert route in future, or at least leaving it for another editor to catch, so that the editor realises there's more than one person who disagrees with him. --McGeddon (talk) 19:07, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

And a Happy Chanukah to YOU!

Thanks for your thoughtful note. Was just thinking of you, because I spied a genuine Female NBA (basketball) ref on the telly this week. So there has been a breakthru in one major sport. Busy editing Oscar Peterson's site. He died on Dec 23, and there has been a flurry of Wiki activity. We knew/liked him -- and all of his jazz. cheers, Bellagio99 (talk) 21:42, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Happy Christmas to you

Thanks Ref for all your useful and balanced contributions this year and here's looking forward to more of the same in '08... Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 21:52, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the Christmas greeting

Thanks for the kind Christmas message. Hope you've had a great holiday and my best to you for the New Year, Gwernol 01:00, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Bands are in scope because they are covered by Wikipedia:WikiProject Musicians, a child project of WikiProject Biography. That said, Slipknot (band) doesn't really need assessing as it's already a GA and is a current FAC candidate. They could seek an A-class review but it wouldn't make much sense whilst it's at FAC. No reply needed. Cheers. --kingboyk (talk) 12:06, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Reflist

Thanks for fixing my mistake on Barry Wellman - the phone rang, I hit send, and forgot to look back. Cheers Tvoz |talk 21:23, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

No probs. As a Barnstar-awarder indirectly involved in the possible Noticeboard COI discussion, I checked it over - also found the <ref> mistake, which threw all the subsequent reference Notes into turmoil. Thanks and happy new year. Ref (chew)(do) 21:31, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
I'm afraid to even look to see how bad that was... the moral of the story is, always do 'show preview' before answering the phone! Happy new year to you too. Tvoz |talk 21:41, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Lee

You helped with the construction of some of the citations needed for NU's page (most actually). Just wanted to say THANKS! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.192.1.77 (talk) 08:10, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Also, there is one note in the

that is slightly off. I would love to learn how to edit the section myself only because I am sure we will be adding info to the page continuously over time... is it possible? If not - the portion that is incorrect is this line regarding the accreditation:

^ Accreditation: WASC website. Retrieved on January 2, 2008.

The line links up to National University highschool. We would like it to link here instead:

http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/InstDetail.asp or to http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/InstList.asp or to http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.asp

These links would bring up the list of the U.S. Department of Education's nationally recognized accredited universities through their offical website.

Again, if you can show us how to make changes to that section so that we can keep it up to date, we would certainly be grateful - at least to the extent that it is possible for us to do so. Otherwise, we do appreciate all of your help.

Thanks again!

The Republic of Ireland

The articles, which I believe you have contributed to, about the results of the Republic of Ireland national team have been nominated for deletion. I have spoken up for keeping them. Djln--Djln (talk) 21:17, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Reverting notice

Could you clarify your objection to the template:un-r? It's obviously not a 'warning' template, but a friendly notice to help new users learn the ropes. It's a message I got sick of typing out in full every time, so I had a template made. Richard001 (talk) 00:18, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

I beg your pardon, but could you point out where I am supposed to have objected to the template you refer to? I only participate in AfD nominations, especially football - I do not get involved with other deletion processes. If you supply the diff, I will clarify why you have mistaken someone else's objection for mine. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 00:43, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
It can only be your memory that is at fault, unless someone else is signing things with your name. You objected to it here a few months ago. Richard001 (talk) 00:47, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't object to the template at all - feel free to carry on using it. But don't expect me to, that's all. Good faith edits are good faith edits. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 00:51, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Well, objection or not you specifically said "How ridiculous - I wouldn't dream of using that template, ever!" I obviously brought it up because I wanted to know why you think it is so ridiculous and why you would not use it. Are you saying it assumes bad faith on part of the reverters? That's certainly not the intention, and I don't see how they would get that message. It's simply to try to help people learn the ropes here, just like telling them that we don't use capitals in article names etc. Richard001 (talk) 05:09, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
We will just have to beg to differ over this one. I made the comment many moons ago, and it seems churlish to trawl over it once more. Let's leave it at that. Thanks for your postings. Ref (chew)(do) 05:18, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Eduardo Magnin

I followed your request on the talk page to notify you of any changes to Eduardo Magnin. As you can see, I added an infobox, his career details from outside Europe and appropriate categories in order to bring it up to the accepted standard for Argentine footballers. Regards, King of the NorthEast 10:41, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, King. Although I really refer to radical changes in existing info (to ensure proper sourcing in effect) and proposals for Speedy deletion or AfD, I am grateful for your post here. Thanks also for the assessment and the fine expansion you carried out. Best wishes. Ref (chew)(do) 20:38, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Clara Clemens/Susy Clemens

I disagree with you about the notability of these two. They're notable for being daughters of Twain. Susy was the inspiration for characters in Twain's works. She was also the author of a biography of her father that has been separately published along with a biography of her. I've removed the notability tag. --Bookworm857158367 (talk) 21:05, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I have no dispute with anyone over Clara Clemens. I told you that. What I do not accept is that Susy Clemens becomes notable for 1. writing a biography about her father, or 2. being the subject of a biography, or (as I have already said) 3. merely being the daughter of Mark Twain. Notability is not transferable. I have read the article, I have read external webpages about her short life, and I still say that her notability is in question. I will not be pursuing this, but be prepared for someone somewhen to come along and put it forward for deletion at some point - I believe it will happen. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 21:19, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, but I disagree with you. Notability is established by having people interested enough in her to write about her life, which they have, and to publish her writings, which they have. Being the inspiration for works by her father is also notable. It's not a candidate for deletion now or later. I'll be expanding the articles on Clara, Jean and Olivia Langdon Clemens when I have more time. Susy's mother and youngest sister already had their own articles written by other people. --Bookworm857158367 (talk) 21:24, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
