TypoScan

I'm downloading the latest dump. Once downloaded can you explain how I might go about updating WP:TYPOSCAN with the latest information? I'd like to know how you create the list of articles from the database dump and how that list can be re-uploaded into the TypoScan list. Regards, Sun Creator(talk) 00:32, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Project file tagging

Hi, any chance your Reedy Bot could be set to go through Category:Western (genre) film posters and tag their talk pages with {{Westerns|class=File}} please? I tried to do this with AWB, but couldn't get my head around using it.. best I don't make a cock-up of it, as there almost 300 files in there. Thanks, Ma®©usBritish{chat} 17:02, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Bugzilla

Hi Reedy. I understand that you are the primary person responsible for the launching of wikis that were developed in the incubator and which have been approved by the Language Committee. I would definitely appreciate your assistance in the launching of the Hebrew Wikivoyage. If for any reason you are unable to help launch the Hebrew Wikivoyage, please refer me to someone else who would be able to do so. Thanks. ויקיג'אנקי (talk) 14:11, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

They will get done in time as is the case with any and all new wikis. The request is barely 4 day old (at worst, they've been a few weeks old when I've dealt with them). There's really nothing urgent about the request, at worst, you can continue at the incubator, then import the changes. I was travelling for first half of last week 3/7 days), followed by some recovery. Patience, grasshopper. Reedy (talk) 16:20, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

The article Luke Newberry has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. JetBlast (talk) 22:18, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Luke Newberry, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages West End, RSC and National Theatre (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Omg!Ubuntu!Logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Omg!Ubuntu!Logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:32, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

TypoScan

The first part (of 27) of the parse has been completed and is available here. It would be nice if you could check if it is importable. One point is probably Unicode encoding ("Erwin Schrödinger"). As the parts are disjunct, there shouldn't be any problem importing one part at a time, so no work is lost. --Tim Landscheidt (talk) 06:40, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

Encoding is fine in a proper text editor ;). Reedy (talk) 22:51, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
Hmm. From that list, 137 "still" have typos, 1573 were skipped. Reedy (talk) 00:06, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
What do you mean by "skipped"? False positives, i. e. my script found it matched one of the regular expressions, but AWB doesn't think so? It's working on the dump of 2013-05-03, so there may be some flux there. Do you have an article that was skipped for debugging? --Tim Landscheidt (talk) 01:39, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
Yup, no typos to be fixed. Less than 10% of them still apparently having typos (taking account of intermediate edits) seems relatively low, with 90% apparently fixed in the last 4-5 weeks?

Reedy (talk) 01:46, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
Question; doesn't AWB skip areas? Could it be hitting upon those in the check phase, but avoid them in the Regex area? I searched for one in the Abraham Lincoln article, but missed it or Firefox couldn't find it. Though the Domain Name System one is a false positive that could probably be wrapped in notatypo template. I'll have to figure that out myself; but could that template be used to check in Regex, but hit in the original scan? ChrisGualtieri (talk) 03:24, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
Yes, numerous areas are hidden from RegexTypoFix - Hides Unformatted text (nowiki, pre, math, html comments, timelines), source tags (for starters). Noting this list building is not using AWB or AWB code, just the regexes. Just running the regexes over the page would be a lot different from the state of the page AWB uses to run the regexes over. See the magic that goes on RegExTypoFix.cs and HideText.cs Reedy (talk) 14:24, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
I do not understand it; but is there a way to address that or would AWB need to be allowed to check those areas to address or check them for false positives? I'm not sure how it works or anything technical; sadly. I just want to fix the problems if they exist. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 04:20, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
Okay, first the results:

(Better look at the wikisource for regular expressions and matches.) Alchemy seems to have been fixed since the dump, all the other articles still seem to match. --Tim Landscheidt (talk) 15:58, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
The scan of the current dump is now complete and the results available at http://tools.wmflabs.org/typoscan/typoscan-enwiki-part-{1..27}.txt. --Tim Landscheidt (talk) 00:58, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

AWB & Stalling regex

Hi Reedy, I'm writing you to highlight an abnormal behaviour of a regex that I'm applying overall the it:voy site. The regex is the following: (.*?)(\{\{Quickbar((?!\{).)*?\}\}\n\n) to be replaced with $2$1. Nothing so strange.

It works (slowly but perfectly) in most of the pages (see it:voy:Speciale:Contributi/Andyrom_bot). But in few of them it stucks AWB and I'm forced to shut it down. I'll give you some of those pages to let you try to understand which is the problem:

PS

If you could also answer me on Wikipedia_talk:AutoWikiBrowser it would be great. Thanks, --Andyrom75 (talk) 09:53, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

In the meanwhile, I've made some tests and I've noticed that the time needed is proportional (I can't say if in a linear way or not) to the amount of "{" presents in the article. I can't figure out how to manage the same task in an alternative way. Let me know.

PS
During the test I've noticed a minor bug on the regex tester. If I press ESC to stop the elaboration (using singleline option) the source collapse (as if it's missing the \n). I've understood that this change in the source is necessary for the algorithm infact, during the elaboration it changes, but when it finished without pressing ok, it come back to the original status.

PPS
It would be important (if feasible) to stop the elaboration pressing ESC also in the regular task (I mean, not in regex tester only). Otherwise, the only alternative is to shutdown the program when it stucks. --Andyrom75 (talk) 11:22, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) This is not an AWB problem. You have written a regex that suffers from excessive backtracking, so on certain articles it may take the .NET runtime on which AWB runs several minutes or even hours to process the regex. You can google regex backtracking to understand what this is and why it happens. Rjwilmsi 13:13, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
To complete my job, I'll do those articles manually. But any feedback would be appreciated. --Andyrom75 (talk) 18:23, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for this edit of yours. Just a suggestion, in the future you could a manually fill out references so as to weed out the unnecessary bits of a title, and also to comply with the existing date format, whatever that maybe. Hello, Reedy. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Arco (company), for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 13:43, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
