Instead I should be writing anonymous nonsense because I'm so clever. Thanks for setting me straight. You are the wind beneath my wings. Redvers ★ Hello ★ Doings 22:54, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! :)
Thanks for your contibutions to the TV articles -- I certainly didn't remember all that stuff about the 1968 ITV strike! You asked for a few tips on how to edit articles, but the only major problem I've seen with your edits are with the external links - the format is:
- * [URL-of-the-site Description of the site]
that is, an asterisk to create a bulleted item, and the single square brackets to surround the URL and your description (make sure there's a space between the end of the URL and the start of your description).
I did notice in one of the articles that you were putting underline characters (_) between the words in a link, but that's no longer ne cessary and MediaWiki will recognise a link contained within double square brackets [[]].
You can sign your name at the end of a talk contribution by typing three tildes ~~~ just to insert your name, or four tildes ~~~~ to insert your name and the date and time.
If I can give you any more advice, leave a note on my talk page! -- Arwel 22:01, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Irish Peace Tower
[edit]No problem mate! I love seeing nice new articles with good photos, mainly because I'm so useless at finishing them and adding photos myself. Sorry if my line about the photo sounded unfair, because I do appreciate the effort. Actually, d'you know what? I'd LOVE to get a photo of Mary and Elizabeth at the opening ceremony, as Mary was wearing a very fetching outfit and looked very sexy (hey, she's my president, I'm allowed to say such things about her). Will get the hell out of here before I fail to refrain from making some smart remark about homosexual Welshmen in villages ... ah blast! Will willingly (lots of willys there all of sudden) endure expected reprisal on my condition of hetrosexuality (and yes, I practise constantly; how else will I get to Carnige Hall?). Cheers! nn-bio
[edit]Hi. We've been edit-conflicting on some New Pages. I thought that I might mention that some of the articles you've tagged as nn-bio don't meet the criteria, but should nevertheless be deleted using the criteria {{empty}}, or as very short articles provising little or no context. ATV + Sapphire and Steel
[edit]Hey, I just saw the edit you made on the Sapphire and Steel page... how right you are! I'd not realised that it was an ATV production before. According to the details I've found it's an "ATV Network Production for ITC World-Wide Distribution". Going by this, I think that it's still fair to be listed in the category of ITC productions, as it was made for the ITC company by ATV (which was a subsidiary of ITC anyway). Let me know if you think otherwise/have an opinion on this! HowardBerry 17:49, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
- Wow! I'm absolutely thrilled you posted such a great reply! That's the exact kind of information which should be on the ITC page - I only started and wrote as much as I knew/could find out (my mum worked for ITC once); and I'd be thrilled if you'd consider joining the ITC project page I created. Its purpose was to try and organise and sort out the exact kind of confusions which you've posted on my talk page. Perhaps it should be renamed a more general Lew Grade Associated Productions! [edit]Problem with "Disposable email address"-vandal
[edit]Hi, you helped blocking this vandal 65.32.166.217 earlier this week from editing Disposable email address, but it seems like this user is trying out the boundaries what he can do. My amateur-psychology tells me that this user will keep editing the article for the next 6 months, every second day, unless we stop him somehow. Now I don't feel llike reverting the article every second day for the next few months - is there something we could do, like block the user for one month for just this article, or something else? Lew List Question re:The Saint!

Neutral meaning?
[edit]Out of couriosity, sparked by your edit, I wonder - is there any difference between a neutral vote and withdrawn neutral vote (if the user has not changed it to support or object)? I'd assume neutral votes do not count towards total support treshold (of 70%) votes, since otherwise they would be as good as opposing votes, thus in terms of cote counting I see no difference between neutral and withdrawn neutral. PS. Please don't treat this as a request to vote again, I am just curious about the procedure.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 21:20, 20 November 2005 (UTC)
- Hmm, I hope you don't count my actions as 'setting on people'. If so, please let me know - one cannot improve if one has not realised his mistake. Pokojowy is close, but this exact world means 'type a house servant' - beacuse in Polish, 'pokój' means both 'peace' and 'room'. I do appreciate the effort, though :> --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 21:51, 20 November 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia:General complaints
[edit]My feeling on this one is that a little knowledge is a dangerious thing and it is better to just say that someone will probably correct it quickly. I've see more than one case where someone missed something when cleaning up, and there must be some vandals who make an obvious change, but also modify a few numbers. I think in one case there had been additional reversions of newer vandalism, after the partial repair. One of today's replies on Wikipedia:Help desk seems to imply that the responder had to revert the the questioner's attempts to remove the vandalism as well as the vandalism itself. --David Woolley 21:53, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

RantingMartian's responce
[edit]Hey, yeah... I'm not sure if I'm using the right medium to respond... but thank you for your guidance... in relation to the BSC article, I believe mentioning specific examples of talented prior captains is important to the explanation... And I don't believe I'm the only one that thinks so... (not intended aggressively)
My comments
[edit]I am sorry if I came off as harsh or anything of the sort. I have just been under so much stress and confusion lately and have been perhaps more irritable than I normally am. My comment about making friends had more to do with the fact that some of WP's heavy-hitters are part of the CCW. Up until about a few days ago, I too was a part of it. I just realised that there were so many people upset with it, and I could no longer, in good faith, be apart of it. I just don't like seeing so much anger and divisiveness. Once again, I am sorry. --LV (Dark Mark) 20:21, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- Well, since I would prefer not to think of myself as an idiot (unless you are referring to the 2004 Boston Red Sox), it might be a case of things exploding too far, too fast. Well, see you around, my friend. --LV (Dark Mark) 20:35, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
Rantin Martian continues to rant
[edit]most of the edits you commented on weren't mine, so perhaps you should try and track down the guy that made them, but I'd suspect that they went to the school in question... But the note about Education captains needing to be well connected is poignant... perhaps if another interpretation could be found to allow the point to remain... But it is usually essential (from what I've heard from the students I have encountered) that Education captains are easily approachable, something not possible for a student you don't know. Anyway... I'll try'n track down this particular person and pass on the message... but the relavant parts I shall take head of... In addition, the "Captain of kicking your ass" and "Captain ya mum" are captains I was inquired for the lack thereof and therefore included them.
Thank you...

'vers'
[edit]Firstly let me preface this question with a preface: I appreciate homosexuals and socialists. I prefaced thus because I would like to ask a question pertaining to your homosexuality and I worry it could be taken offensively. So please know this is not my intention, I try not to unecessarily offend homosexuals. Question: does the 'vers' in 'redvers' come from 'vers' as in 'top/bottom/vers', which, according to an urban legend I have reason to believe to be both legendary and true, means 'versatile', as in: "there are three types of gays. top, bottom, and vers. the overwhelming majority are either top or bottom - either they enjoy placing their penis inside another or having penis placed inside them. however a small minority use the word 'vers' to indicate that they enjoy both. Interestingly, though, vers (verses? versus? versi?) find themselves more often as bottoms than tops". ORRR is it just that your name is a sort of mixture of 'reverse' and 'red'. Thanks and sorry if my nosiness/vulgarity offends. --86.144.85.93 23:13, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
- Not offended at all! But you're off track, I'm afraid. "Redvers" is a not-uncommon (white) South African first name. I've taken it from Redvers Kyle, the SA-born Associated-Rediffusion and Yorkshire Television continuity announcer who was the best in the business. - I'll come up with a message that will combine another announcement which I am planning and a reminder about voting soon, probably over the weekend. Kill two birds with one, as they say. I'll let you know. If you want me to help, I can take half of the list. Thanks again! Flcelloguy (A note?) 23:18, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for helping out! Could I ask a favor from you all? Would you mind checking Wikipedia:Esperanza/December 2005 elections/Vote and confirming that every candidate was listed on the member's list before December 12 and fulfill all the membership requirements (150 edits, 2 weeks)? Also, would one of you mind formatting and playing around with the tally box - I'm having some difficulty making it format correctly and listing all the candidates in the two races. Thanks a lot for your help! Flcelloguy (A note?) 16:33, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks! Are all candidates listed as members? Flcelloguy (A note?) 17:04, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
- I'd say all three are eligible. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 17:33, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
- Hello, Redvers, I've got a message for you to deliver to all members:
Hello, fellow Esperanzians! This is just a friendly reminder that elections for Administrator General and two advisory council positions have just begun. Voting will last until Friday, December 30, so make sure you exercise your right to vote! Also, I'm pleased to announce the creation of the Esperanza mailing list. I urge all members to join; see Wikipedia:Esperanza/Contact for more information. All you need to do is email me and I will activate your account. This will be a great way to relax, stay in touch, and hear important announcements. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?)
This message was delivered to all Esperanza members by our acting messenger, Redvers (many thanks!). If you do not wish to receive further messages, please list yourself at WP:ESP/S. Thanks.

the Dolenz Dillema
[edit]hi. this is Cornelius from the Slovene wiki. just wanted to drop a line about the George Dolenz article. I'm pretty fresh in the wikipedia waters, and didn't really want to mess with the article myself. i figure now we just let the article rest for a while and see if it passes the test of time. anyway, thanks for handling that. cheers.

[edit]Channel Tunnel
[edit]You wrote:
Second tunnel As of 2005, the British and French governments are investigating the possibility of a second tunnel through the Channel. While no planning has progressed past its feasibility, it is possible that such a project might be a single (wider or taller) tube as tunnel boring technology has progressed significantly over the past two decades.
Then you told me:
The governments are bound by the original Treaty to investigate the possibility; they will do nothing and no tunnel will be built.
... the second para (unpublished) leaves the reader with a greatly different impression! I would suggest adding this context to the article. Without context, the reader takes "investigating the possibility" to imply there's a real interest in building a second tunnel; the fact that they're only 'investigating' because they promised they would knocks that implication firmly on the head. Benet Allen 17:22, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
I'm not happy that you are prepared to leave that paragraph in there without correcting the grossly misleading impression it creates. Facts are pointless without context - it's factually correct that the planet might spontaneously cease to exist tomorrow, but I wouldn't want to convey the impression that it is in any way likely! You could, for instance, find an economic analyst and quote them - you know and I know that no second tunnel is likely to be built, but a reader of Wikipedia is left to believe the opposite.Benet Allen 10:55, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for your later reply. I was under the impression you were the author of at least the relevant paragraph. Thank you for your encouragement to try to fix it! Benet Allen 15:40, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
Teletext
[edit]Hiya, you asked whether I had the permission of the guy who owns [2] to use a Teletext screenshot that he made, well truth is, no I don't, I didn't think it was strictly necisary I did give credit, I would contact him if I had the time, but it was only an idea to update it. Sorry, really must dash, please remove it if you think it's not appropriate. Bye.

- Hello Redvers; as you may be aware, the Esperanza elections are concluding. Did any of you notice any discrepancies at all, and have you checked to make sure we have the correct tally? Thanks a lot! Flcelloguy (A note?) 01:19, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

User page image
[edit]I changed the image on your user page so that the old Image:Gay-flag-6.png could be deleted. I have been working on several Wikimedia projects to correct links to duplicate images so that the duplicates can be deleted. My edit to your user page was one out of hundreds of edits to various articles and meta pages. —Guanaco 21:09, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
