SFKK revert
[edit]An apologist for SF? Gosh no. For consistency, I just try to be as unbiased and unemotional as possible when posting all the park accident information, as an encyclopedia article should be. I reverted because (a) a mention of the ongoing investigation of the cable is not encyclopedic -- the result of the investigation will be once it is complete and that info will be posted on the Incident page; (b) a mention of the ongoing investigation is not relevent to an article on SFKK. The incident itself, yes. The minute-by-minute update? Not so much. SpikeJones 17:31, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Brewing Time for Tea
[edit]Again I request that you remove the copyright infringement tag from Brewing Time for Tea. If the content was deleted because it was too promotional, then that should be the reason listed. The article was not a copyright infringement. I feel that it would be beneficial to everyone if the tags were accurate. Thank you. (MandyBarberio 18:59, 31 July 2007 (UTC))
It is not a copyright infringement. I wrote the article in it's original placement: http://www.englishteastore.com/flavonoids-tea.html, and I placed a blatant GNU Free Documentation License on the article. The copyright has in no way been violated. I do not plan on reposting the article as it was because I agree that it was perhaps too promotional in nature. All I'm asking is that the copyright violation tag be removed, since that was not the issue at hand. (MandyBarberio 19:22, 31 July 2007 (UTC))
Yes I understand that the article is gone, and that's fine. But it makes me look bad that someone has tagged me with a copyright violation, when no copyright violation occurred. The GNU Free Documentation License is blatantly listed on the original article. Perhaps this something you should check before you accuse writers of such violations! I'm new to Wikipedia, but I would think that you could do something to make it known that the violation tag was in error. (MandyBarberio 19:44, 31 July 2007 (UTC))
LOL. I'll take your word for it. I just get very upset by those types of things because I work in the English/Journalism field, but as long as that information will not be accessible to the public, I'm sure I'll be fine. Thanks! (MandyBarberio 20:02, 31 July 2007 (UTC))
I hear you. I am a copywriter. One thing I was wondering about is are the Administrators on Wikipedia paid, or is it on a volunteer basis? (MandyBarberio 20:20, 31 July 2007 (UTC))

Crimson Room.
[edit]I read the item seven of the Criteria for the speedy deletion of articles. I'm not sure how you're supposed to prove that something is "remarkable". Many people have played Crimson Room. When I first went searching for the article today, I was surprised not to find it. So, I decided to create the article and hope that someone will expand it. (I'd be a horrible encyclopedia writer at this point in my life, and I need to take the time to learn Wiki's markup language so I can edit/publish effectively)
Any suggestion as far as what I can do? I mean, how do you go around proving that things aren't remarkable/significant, and beyond that, who determines what is significant? --Slashedzero 05:35, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit]You wrote "speedy delete" in your edit summary here, but you actually put cleanup tags instead. Most likely you were thinking to speedy delete but then changed your mind, but I was just curious what was your thought process. Best regards, Shalom Hello 01:55, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Sports teams
[edit]Teams which are under the Wikiproject Korea banner can be determined whether or not to be appropriate for inclusion therein. Also, discuss any such issues in the discussion pages as appropriate. Do not vandalise. And would you also delete Manchester United? No? Why not? The same reason applies here.JPBarrass 15:58, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
You tell me to "mind" my words when accusing you of vandalism? Well how about minding your manners about putting stuff up for speedy deletion instead of discussing it first?!!! You accuse me of being laughable, but I've just had quite a chuckle myself. And as for putting the entire league up for deletion because of me accusing you of vandalism, well that's simply childish. Grow up.
In your opinion they do not belong. In many others' they do. Now wouldn't it have been nice of you to discuss the issue on the discussion page so kindly provided by Wikipedia rather than just plonking a speedy delete tag in there and then threatening me with removal from Wikipedia, albeit indirectly? There are things called manners in this world and I feel that you would benefit from a crash course. Honestly, it's this kind of behaviour which leads to people like myself, who do decent writing for Wikipedia, to feel like jacking it all in. You and your ilk are killing this site.

[edit]My God! I make one page about a topic that I do consider relevant, and in the midst of attempting to discuss that relevance with you, you threaten to remove me from Wikipedia permanently. If this is the type of behavior I should expect from this site, maybe you should remove me. I wouldn't want to come here anymore. Misplaced message
[edit]- But none of the people I'm adding or who've already been added to Violence against LGBT people and Hate crimes against LGBT people were famous or notable before their murder. So, does that mean that none of them should be added? Or does that mean that more supporting articles are needed? Given that the murder happened in March of this year, does that mean I should wait until it's had time to generate more headlines? How much publicity is a lot?
- The summaries in the article are usually a few sentences long. How uchof what I added to the Keel article would be appropriate in a summary? It's about three orfour paragraphs long. Can I add that much to the bullet in the article? k
- I guess I just don't want to spend time adding these cases to Wikipedia if they're going to end up being deleted because the the victims aren't famous enough or the crimes haven't generated enough headlines; especially if I spend a lot of times, sometimes several days, gathering information and writing it up.
- I am expanding some articles as I go, like the one about Paul Broussard, which was only a stub before I added the information I'd researched.
- As for Keel, I added hers because of the connection between it and what happened to Nizah Morris, which generated considerable coverage in the Philadelphia area, and which is part of the reason Keel's death has generated controversy in the area.
The preceding text, written by TerranceDC, was left on the userpage rather than on the talk page. I have just now moved it. Nyttend 22:40, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Hi realkyhick, please know that LateToTheGame aka Mangler has agreed to informal Dispute Resolution. I'm acting as an unbiased third party in this dispute. Mangler has taken offense to your edits, comments, and mentioning of possible deletion on the article Brotherhood 2.0. After which he then asked for help on the Help Desk (Threatened With Account Closure). If you agree to end this dispute, I would ask that you Disengage for a while (Level 2 of informal dispute resolution) until we can cool our collective heads, or proceed through Wikipedia:Mediation. I would also add that Mangler is admittedly a new user to Wikipedia, and unfamilar with some Wikipedia policy, guidelines, and essays. As such, please explain in detail what you do in the future, so he can better understand the entire process. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please respond either here or on my Talk Page, or at the Brotherhood 2.0 Talk Page. Thanks! Zidel333 23:21, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Procedural nomination
[edit]I would not recommend nominating for AFD, if the author removes a PROD and attempts to improve the article, and you have no position on the AFD. It appears you are nominating, just for nominations sake. It would perhaps be a good idea to allow the articles contributers to improve the article or provide a deletion rationale instead of no position. I'm not sure where in the deletions process or deletions policy, procedural nominations in response to contested PRODs are covered.

Pennsylvania 13th and 28th Senatorial Districts
[edit]I strongly oppose you nomination of AFD for the two articles I created. The purpose of creating articles about political districts is to inform people what areas are actually included in the districts in the articles and thats what I did in the two articles. for both I give what cities, townships and boroughs are included in the two articles about the 13th and 28th Pennsylvania Senatorial Districts and backed them up with two links: one link giving infomation about the districts so it can prove i'm not making infomation up and one link that gives the website of the State Senator that represents the district i'm writing about. Out of the few articles that are written about Pennsylvania State Senate Districts there all written the same and I don't think you should nominate them for AFD because they are accurate, well written and have them backed up with atleast one source that concurs with the infomation i'm writing about. 66.82.9.45 03:55, 5 August 2007 (UTC)Paul Broun

I don't quite understand why you changed the speedy-delete tag on this article to a prod. Explain, please. Realkyhick 05:28, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- Because while the article was made by what is likely a single-purpose account, User talk:StarrDance, a discussion with them has not really happened, they just got a talk-page template slap. This page doesn't appear to be pure-spam, as it does not contain EL's, but it doesn't really assert its notability either, though hints at it through wiki-links. My main reasoning was that if this was created by a good faith contributor, as I like to assume, it may become a better article, but if they are single purpose, they will likely never come back, the prod will expire, and the result will be the same. I have no other interest in this artlce, and from my history have no problem deleting things! Thanks, — xaosflux Talk 16:56, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- Your history is why I asked. :-) Well, let's see how it goes. The reason may need a little expanding, as few non-Wikipedians might now what "db-inc" means. If they remove the prod, an we then put the speedy back up or do we have to go to AfD? Not sure on the procedure here. Realkyhick 17:01, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- Feel free to expand the definition on the {{prod}} marker. If the prod is removed then it will require an afd, although the ebst resolution would be for notability to get cited and not have to delete anything! — xaosflux Talk 18:51, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Tagging of Jody Weiner
[edit]I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Jody Weiner. I do not think that Jody Weiner fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because publication of multiple books, apparently by legitimate publishers, is enough to take this out of the speedy deletion realm. Sources supporting notability would be needed at an AfD, but the claim alone is enough to avoid a speedy delete. I request that you consider not re-tagging Jody Weiner for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page. DES (talk) 21:45, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Anna Svidersky AfD
[edit]Howdy, on the Anna Svidersky AfD you expressed sentiments to keep the content regarding the notability of the aftermath following her death. An important letter
[edit]Dear roads editor,
You may have noticed some changes at WP:USRD lately. Some of them, like the cleanup templates and the stub templates, have been astounding and great. Unfortunately, others have been disturbing.
This has become evidenced by the departure of a few prominent editors at USRD, a few RFC's, and much fighting among USRD editors.
After the second RFC, many of us found the opportunity to take a step away from Wikipedia for a while--as a self-imposed wikibreak, or possibly on vacation.
The result of such introspection was that many of us were placing ourselves in a "walled garden" and on a self-imposed pedestal of authority over the roads department. Also, we were being hostile to a few users who were not agreeing with us.
In fact, IRC has been the main incarnation of this "walled garden." Decisions have been made there to conduct grudges and prejudices against a few valued USRD users with poor justification.
For this, we have come to apologize. We have come to ask your forgiveness.
In addition to this, we hope to work as one USRD team from now on and to encourage cooperation instead of the promotion of interests.
All users are welcome to collaborate on IRC, the newsletter, or anywhere else at USRD.
In the future, please feel free to approach us about any issues you may have.

However, I still wanted to thank you for the time you devoted to helping me and for sticking up for me in the discussion page. You were genuinely trying to help me write the article rather than just try to delete it right away, something I cannot say about any of the other users I came in contact with. Thanks for all your help, and hopefully we will collaborate on a more successful project in the future. Sincerely, Dmcnabb5 20:05, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Noticed you marked Silent Movie Records for deletion and said I was using a javascript bot of some kind. I don't even know what that is. Hahah. I did write everything in word and then paste it into the browser.
The label is pretty significant, they've launched the careers of two bands who are now on major indie labels. The one band, Hit The Lights, toured with groups like New Found Glory, The Early November, and have gone overseas with bands like MXPX. They're definitely a significant band, and the label is too! :)

- At a minimum, it could use a cleanup tag. I'm half tempted to prod it. It is probably a worthwhile subject, but I'm not sure a complete rewrite wouldn't be better. It doesn't really seem to say anything about the supposed subject. It's talking about various gases and not actually detecting. Maybe reduce it to a stub? -- JLaTondre 18:51, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry! I missed that you had edited it after the move. I've done a history merge and restored your edits. Camping World
[edit]A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Camping World, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. Moonriddengirl 00:59, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:CampingWorldLogo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Deletion: "Robin Good, Master New Media" Why?
[edit]Realkyhick,
I'm struggling to understand specifically why the article I posted, "Robin Good, Master New Media," fell into the "criteria for speedy deletion" category. As for reasons given, you (I presume it was you who tagged the article) cited "the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11" ("Blatant advertising"), and "the guidelines on spam" which cites "Advertisements masquerading as articles."
As a former community newspaper editor/publisher, I have some sense of the difference between ad copy and genuine editorial. As a sort of "Web 2.0 consultant" to my employer, as well as a volunteer consultant on this topic to various non-profit organizations in my community, I can also claim at least some knowledge of the "new media" space.
Many of the people I've referred to Robin Good's blog are NOT tech enthusiasts. Yet a number of them later thanked me by mentioning how much they enjoyed using Master New Media as their "new media" resource. These are folks who would rarely (if ever) spend time reading Techcrunch, Lifehacker, Ars Technica, Engadget, etc., yet each of these blogs sports a Wikipedia entry. A number of factors sets Master New Media apart from other tech blogs. One of the most obvious is Good's tone, enthusiasm and writing style, which seems to invite "non-geeks"--particularly grassroots media enthusiasts--into understanding how these tools might work for them. As for me personally, Master New Media has become my "bible" in this regard.
Robin Good does his thing from Rome, Italy. I live in Portland, Oregon (USA); the last time I was in Rome was in early 1981. Indeed, I have never met the man (other than a couple of brief email exchanges cited below). I'm not sure what my motivation would be to "advertise" (or otherwise shill) for Robin Good, other than the motivation I actually have, which is: relevance to a particular audience (of which I attempted to articulate above). Although I've followed Good's work for the past 3 or 4 years, the only contact I can recall having with this article's subject was a brief email exchange several years ago that I had initiated to ask for more clarification on a news feed service he had brought to his readers' attention, and another brief exchange a couple of months ago to inquire into his overall objectives for the Robin Good TV initiative he was just launching at the time.
I recall, as a journalism student in college, that one of my professors gave me an exceptionally bad grade at the end of the term (a "D" if I remember correctly). At issue wasn't any personality conflict; she actually demonstrated more fondness for me than had many of the other professors, all of whom awarded me with "A's" that term. I forgot all about it and went off to launch my community newspaper. A year or so later, my former professor appeared in my office with a video camera to tape me, and I became a subject in a video she produced to highlight "successful" community media pioneers.
While taping the segment, she made a comment along the lines of "I guess you showed me" (meaning that I'd somehow "proved her wrong" in her decision to give me such a low grade in her class). Of course, I hadn't intended to "show her" anything of the sort. Instead, while a student in her class, I attempted to show that--while I demonstrably understood the basics of "correct" news writing and editing--I also knew that standard journalism's "officially-sanctioned" approach would fail to communicate effectively if used in the type of newspaper I intended to begin publishing (geared towards our local grunge and punk music scene). My goal was to show that another approach might be warranted to successfully reach a particular audience.
For a number of years now, it has been my observation that Good's approach to technology reporting is effective for an audience more interested in grassroots media than geeky technology. I feel that pointing Wikipedia readers to such a resource, far from being "blatant advertising," would actually benefit the community. If qualified Wikipedia editors can find holes in this argument, please point them out. Otherwise please come up with a rationale more relevant than "blatant advertising" as to why the article should be strengthened, and then cite specific measures I can take to improve the article.
With kind regards,
Davydog 19:37, 13 August 2007 (UTC) davydog
Realkyhick's Response
- The article had all the appearance of a news release written by the subject's PR firm, if not outright advertising. As a newspaper reporter and editor myself (currently with The Birmingham News), I've seen my share of news releases, most of which end up in the trash. The article also qualified for speedy deletion because the subject did not meet Wikipedia notability standards. I must point out that I simply tagged the article as meting speedy-deletion criteria; an administrator must agree with my assessment and actually delete the article, or may decide that the article does not meet the criteria and remove the message. Davydog's Follow-Up To Realkyhick's Response
Realkyhick,
Thank you for your quick response. I'm actually comforted that you're a working news editor, which means that I now think I have a pretty good idea of how to proceed. (Naturally I've read through all the Wikipedia guidelines, rules, etc. a number of times, but possible interpretations of those resources can vary widely.)
I agree that my initial draft of the article has a somewhat PR-ish read to it. And, like you, my section editors and I quickly disposed of most press releases my paper received back in the day ;-) Because this was my first full Wikipedia article I thought I'd have time last night to just get a few initial paragraphs up on the site, go get some sleep, then work on citations, etc. the next morning (today). I also wanted to see if I could entice other folks who follow Good's blog to edit in their insights and info. I didn't realize how quickly you "Wiki-watchers" worked!
To clarify: If I were to pull together more information to support "notability standards," such as 3rd-party news articles like this one: Adding an RSS Feed to Your Blog or Web Site, while working to tone down some of the "PR-ish" feel to the article, do you think it might then meet Wikipedia standards?
With kind regards,
-davydog

Dale
[edit]I have a feeling it might be better to dispose of Erik J. Dale by a more definitive consensus at AfD--perhaps you'll want to send it.DGG (talk) 07:54, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Article on Occupational Asthma
[edit]Thanks for the insights regarding the article. I had written it first in word and pasted it from there. I'm still working on improving the other aspects of the article according to the Wikipedia guidelines. But being a new user, its slow going. (Occupational Asthma 16:16, 20 August 2007 (UTC));

[edit]Thanks--I looked quickly, but didn't find it. Anyway, this is just one article and the community decision will be the decision. I of course continue to have great respect for your views. DGG (talk) 21:28, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Requesting undeletion of Vanilla Beer Article
[edit]Hi, I was just about to add a 'hangon' tag to the Vanilla Beer page, but it had already disappeared. Having read the guidelines on what makes a 'notable biography', I'd include Vanilla Beer, as there has been an independent book of her artwork published, she has won several awards and while this isn't mentioned in the guidelines, she is also the daughter of Anthony Stafford Beer, who is more well known. Either of the first 2 points appear to qualify her as 'notable'. She's also a great artist, but that's by the by! If there's a way you can bring the article back, I'd be most grateful! --Aminto 18:01, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
I declined speedy request on that and listed it along with its Delicious Label at Afd. Carlossuarez46 19:17, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Anna Svidersky part deux II
[edit]Howdy! I hope you don't mind the second interruption but there is currently a Request for comment on the talk page of the Svidersky article aimed at resolving disagreements over the outcome of the last AfD. We'd like to get some additional input so that we can amicably resolve those disagreements and your thoughts would be greatly appreciated by all the editors on the Svidersky page. Thank you for your time. AgneCheese/Wine 15:00, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
THE ELECTRICITY COUNCIL CONTRACT - ENFIELD 8000 - A VALID SOURCE FOR THE WIKIPEDIA STANDARDS?
[edit]I have the Electricity Council contract in PDF format and, I believe, you will find it useful and revealing. How do I sent it to you? Please answer on my user page or both, yours and mine. Constantine Adraktas 14:42, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit]You have nominated this article for speedy deletion on the allegation of a copyright violation. It is a one-sentence stub I wrote myself; what about it violates copyright? Tom Radulovich 01:47, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Elaine Kennedy
[edit]Please have another look at the Elaine Kennedy article and its Talk page for my reason why it should not be deleted. Thanks SDSGResident 22:44, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- I have no idea whether AfD will hold her important, or even what I will say about it there, but it clearly asserts importance. Do not overuse speedy---it makes more work in the end. DGG (talk) 00:04, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
