Color error?

Is it intentional that a few areas are in blue, or is that a mistake? I can't remember seeing blue areas in other maps of this type. Nyttend (talk) 23:40, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

They are intended to be grey, not blue. I did wonder about this myself when I made those maps, and tried to correct it, but it did not seem to affect the resulting image. Don't know! Rcsprinter123 (drawl) 23:45, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

2016 GA Cup-Wrap Up

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016 GA Cup - Final/Wrap-Up

Hello to our truly awesome GA Cup competitors!

Thursday, June 30 saw the end of the 2016 GA Cup. It was a huge success. In the final, our five competitors reviewed an astonishing 207 articles, the most in any GA Cup final thus far. We continue to reach our goals and make a substantial impact in how quickly articles are reviewed for GA status. On March 1, the start of this competition, the article longest in the queue had languished there since June 26, 2015 [1]; in the July 1, 2016 list, the average wait length is just four months [2]. It's clear that we continue to make a difference at GAN and throughout Wikipedia, something we should all be proud of. Thanks to all our competitors for their enthusiasm, and for helping to make the GA Cup a continued success. Remember that most articles can't even be considered for FA status unless it's been passed to GA first, so our efforts have created hundreds of potentials FAs. That is, as they say, a big deal.

The final this time represented a real horse race between our 1st and 2nd place winners. First-time competitor (who had won all previous rounds) Sainsf earned an impressive 1456 points with 91 articles reviewed during the final. Close behind, in second place was Carbrera, also a first-time competitor, reviewed the most articles (94). Their enthusiasm was a treat to witness. Congrats to you both!

The competition went relatively smoothly, with very little drama this time. We had to clarify one rule: in order for the points to count, you must mark your reviews as completed; it's not up to the judges to ensure that all reviews are completed by the end of a round. We were strict about adhering to this clarification, especially at the end of the final. We intend on stressing it in the stated rules for our next competition, which will be announced soon, so watch out for it. We also intend on applying for a grant through Wikimedia to include gift certificates for our winners, to further incentivize the GA Cup.

MrWooHoo should receive special recognition for acting as our main judge, and for stepping in for the rest of the judges when real-life busyness took over. He reviewed the majority of the submissions during our final round. Thanks for your hard work, and for the hard work of all our judges. We look forward to the next competition.

Again, thanks to all our competitors, and congrats to our winners.

Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase.

You're right - I jumped the gun there and was on the point of reverting myself!

I was thinking about what to do with the previous station (Victoria Street). Ebbw Vale Parkway includes some categories that clearly refer to the previous station but, apart from a passing reference, there are no details (let alone referenced details) so the categorisation is a bit dubious.

One could either expand Ebbw Vale Parkway to include Victoria Street (with a redirect), or create a new page for Victoria Street and wikilink between the two. Not sure which is the best approach. Probably a question for the UK railways project. Cheers Robevans123 (talk) 12:38, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

I'm so right that the edit has been reverted again. I don't know what to do with regard to the Ebbw Vale Parkway / Victoria issue; I'm not really involved with the page. UK Railways would be the place to discuss it. Rcsprinter123 (confabulate) 17:41, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Maps

I just wanted to say, I appreciate the excellent work you have been doing creating detailed county maps. I was wondering, are you using Inkscape to create them? I recently made some that were missing for North Dakota, but yours are so good that it seems a shame to make any that are formatted differently. Thanks for any advice you have! Ragazzi3 (talk) 17:38, 28 August 2016 (UTC)

Here is where I'm up to with the US (green counties are completed). I do use Inkscape, but it takes an hour or two to do each county which means I have to fit drawing them around other things, so progress is fairly slow. You can view it at my Commons page. However, I'm sure I'll get everywhere done one day.
The North Dakota ones you did are for townships (MCDs), but I only show those in my maps where they are used for local government, which is mainly around the Northeast. All the incorporated cities and CDPs in ND are completed though. Rcsprinter123 (remark) 18:30, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, that makes sense. You're even further along than I thought! I just thought I'd point out, I came across one that isn't created, for New Market, York County, Pennsylvania. Everything else seems to be created in that county, but I was going through the CDP's, adding the townships they are located in, and noticed that one doesn't have a map that exists for it. Thanks again, awesome work. Ragazzi3 (talk) 20:29, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
Good find; it seems that place is so small I didn't notice it when creating the map. I've made one for it now - File:York County Pennsylvania incorporated and unincorporated areas New Market highlighted.svg. Rcsprinter123 (discourse) 13:03, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

My Access Plan (MAP) - please ask your fellow Admins if there is a way they can be aware when over a week goes by and REQUESTS-for-REDIRECTS/NEW_CAT... are just piling up ... Thanks for helping the one you did yesterday, but . . . what about (Me Myself I and TEAM = Together Everyone Achieves More). Not a complaint . . . but by putting my MY MAP in front of Your MAPs you can see my (hopefully not too impolite) "jumping the line." [You can archive/delete this, since it's your talk page, but hopefully you'll also do something about the backlog).
Thanks again, in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.251.59.250 (talk) 22:49, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

I used https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Logo_Labour_Party.svg (PD-ineligible) in the infobox, not https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Logo_Labour_Party.svg. I'm not sure how to distinguish the two. --Auric talk 17:05, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

I'd say the file held on enwp needs deleting, then the Commons file will show - but I'm not an expert on that. First, double check that the Commons one is actually ineligible, because if the enwp one isn't, the Commons one shouldn't be either. Rcsprinter123 (confer) 17:10, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review needs your help

Hi Rcsprinter123/Archives,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, Rcsprinter123. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
