RE: Welcome

Sorry I have not replied to this earlier, but I didn't see your reply when I archived your reply and the rest of my talk page. First of all that message on my userpage does not say "Please give me a welcome. I'm sad and lonely and I need some friends" which you seemed to think it meant before asking me in a nutshell not to edit Wikipedia and articles about Gibraltar. What gives that right to say that, I have no idea, but I'm not going to bother to question it. The reason I have that text on my talk page is because I have looked through a lot user talk pages and they all have a welcome message from someone or other. I still don't understand why I never got one, but I find it rude and a bit like editors are offering special treatment to people with user names they like or something.

As for I being rude to you, I don't see your logic there, because as far as I'm concerned, it's you that’s been rude to both me with our conversation and as with incidents I've seen on the admin notice boards with a quick search of your user name. From the quote on your user page and a quick look through some of your archives I can see this isn't the first time you've annoyed other people. --DWRtalk 18:44, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

I fail to see why you got so irate because I said 'hello and welcome' when your page at the time specifically complained that nobody had done so I did take the time to read what was there before leaving a message.
'Gibraltan' is a not the correct word to describe things related to Gibraltar, but that point has been made.
But hey the purpose of editing wikipedia is to create well referenced accurate articles which other people find useful, not to have arguments. It may be I am abrupt, and scorn political correctness which at times upsets people. There are worse things in life.
Have a nice day. --Gibnews (talk) 19:09, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
You seem to make it your mission to argue with and annoy as many people as possible on Wikipedia. I would point you towards Wikipedia:Civility, but you probably would just ignore it. On your point, Gibnews, you don't have to be politically correct to edit Wikipedia, but as far as most people (including me) are concerned you do have to be civil *points to above policy*. Manners don't cost anything. Thank you and good day to you too. --DWRtalk 17:53, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Please desist from leaving this sort of message on my user page. --Gibnews (talk) 22:46, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Yes I can see why you have the right to tell me that I am being "irate" when you tell me to "desist from leaving this sort of message" with me trying to tell you to be civil to other users.
This doesn't have anything to do with it, but why on earth does your username share its name with a news site about Gibraltar? Promotional names aren't really allowed on Wikipedia. See this page for details. --DWRtalk 15:33, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
Please do not leave messages on my user page for the purpose of harassing me - it for discussing articles only. If you feel my username infringes anyone's intellectual property, take it up with the owners of that website in question. Its been in use since 2005 without any problem and is generic. --Gibnews (talk) 11:05, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for deleting my comments. I fail to see how I have "harassed" you. If you had bothered to look at that link I posted here, instead of deleting it you would have seen that Wikipedia Policy says nothing about "infringing anyone's intellectual property". Quoted from it it says:

"Use of Wikipedia for promotion of a company or group is not permitted, and accounts that do this will be blocked. Use of a company or group name as a username is not explicitly prohibited, but it is not recommended and depending on the circumstances may be seen as a problem..."

So instead of your kind advice to "take it up with the owners of that website in question" I wondered if you knew you shared the username. I'm afraid that saying "Its been in use since 2005 without any problem[s] and is generic" doesn't make much sense as its not generic (specific). It blantanley shares its name with a website posting news related to Gibraltar, which you always stress is where you live.[1] I've looked through your contributions and I've seen that its very likely that you know this website exists as you've edited articles which use it as a reference point.[2]
Quoting again from that page:

"Similarly, editing with a possible conflict of interest, such as editing an article about your employer, is not disallowed, but anyone wishing to do so is advised to first accumulate some editing experience in unrelated areas."

I can't see many of your recent edits which aren't related to Gibraltar in some way. Thank you Gibnews and have a nice day. --DWRtalk 19:52, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Yawn I consider its rather petty complaining about peoples usernames. I live in Gibraltar and work in the media sector. Its best to create and edit articles relating to subjects I know about, an will not be creating pages about Manx mud wrestling. Should I need lectures on ethics etc from new users, I'll ask. --Gibnews (talk) 15:13, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
How on earth am I "lecturing" you. As you seem to spend most of your time arguing on talk pages with other users, I think you do really need a lecture not on ethics but on how to get on with people. Do you even know how old my account is? No need to bother to check, but if you had bothered you'd probably have found out that I'm not a new user. Also I bet you work in the 'media sector' as early revisions of your user page clearly promote the said website.[3] and you also tried to upload a logo of it onto wikipedia for use on your userpage which was later deleted.[4] Thank you for your mindless drivel by the way about Manx mud wrestling. It was nice that you tried to insult my intelligence over the internet by the way. I am very afraid. Wikipedia:Civility might offer you some pointers. As for your lovely comments about me above, I think they speak for themselves - I must add that I think it's absolutely charming you refer to me and the other user as having "politically correct opinions" and that everyone apart from you it seems is a "poorly informed editor" --DWRtalk 02:16, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Yawn Give it a break, there must be more productive things to do than research my history on wikipedia and engage in rants. --Gibnews (talk) 22:35, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Still as charming and as polite as ever then Gibnews. Instead of actually replying to any of my points, you decided to use a big font, saying Yawn. Scary..--DWRtalk 11:21, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Surrey flag

Hi Hiding, I was just wondering about your recent edit to List of English flags. You added this flag to the article, saying it is the flag of Surrey. I can see where the design comes from but I was a tiny bit curious as to where you saw this flag as I live and have strong connections with Surrey and I have never seen this flag before in my life. Thank you. --DWRtalk 15:50, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Linking to websites that display copyrighted works is acceptable as long as the website's operator has created or licensed the work. Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Hi Piotrus, I'm sorry this has taken so long. I completed your image rather soon after you requested it and then completely forgot about it. Anyway I uploaded it today here. I hope its okay. --DWRtalk 19:42, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the help so far! No hurry, but can we update those to Europe scale: Image:Poland Ukraine Locator.png; Image:Poland France Locator.png. Denmark–Poland relations has no image, and I wonder if there is a better scale for Image:Poland Russia Locator.png? Euroasian one, perhaps? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 23:04, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
I'll see what I can do. I'm going to be busy for a short while off Wikipedia, so I won't be able to deal with your request right away. --DWRtalk 13:37, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:British National Party Logo.png)

Thanks for uploading File:British National Party Logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
