Geometry
[edit](1) There are axioms of geometry other than Euclid. (2) a high school teacher is not a reliable source. Bubba73 (talk), 21:18, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Rallybrendan2006, your addition about Euclid's axioms to Taxicab geometry has now been opposed by three editors. Please stop adding it, because that's not how Wikipedia works. If an edit of yours is opposed, you should discuss it with everybody; you can do that on the associated talk page, at Talk:Taxicab geometry, or even here, and we'll explain why we think the reference is not suitable and why Euclid's axioms are nowadays not considered a valid axiomatic system. But don't add the reference back in without discussion, because that's just a waste of everybody's time. Cheers, Jitse Niesen (talk) 22:57, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
Yellowknife attractions
[edit]No worries, always glad to help :). As an overview, the Northern Frontier Visitors Centre has a fairly good listing of events [1]; also, NACC usually has some really good showcases of local talent around Christmas [2]; personally, the local museum (the Prince of Whales Northern Heritage Centre) has some good displays, and you could check out the legislative buildings as there right next door too. A hike up to Pilot's Monument is usually also a must, and if you're up for it, a sled dog ride is also a good experience. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! -YK Timestalk 20:37, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Newspapers
[edit]I just saw your question on YK Times talk page and I know he hasn't been editing a lot, so I thought I would reply for now. Northern News Services publishes the Yellowknifer twice a week and the News/North once a week. The Globe and Mail, National Post and Edmonton Journal would all be available and probably some other Canadaian papers. Somewhere like Chapter III Magazines in the Centre Square Mall would probably have what you are looking for. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 04:04, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- Oddly enough, I work for Northern News Services; work is actually the reason I haven't been editing as much, though I'm trying to get back into it. I'm currently working on trying to build up to doing an expansion/rewrite of the Yellowknife article to GA-status. -YK Timestalk 18:32, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
You can buy the local newspaper at more or less every convenience store in town, in addition to the Northern News Services office (5108 50th Street). If you have any questions while you're in town, feel free to ask. -YK Timestalk 23:52, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Both versions are $1.00 but the NU one is only available at the Northern News Services building. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 20:44, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
- Lucky timing and the fact that my baggage got bumped off in Yellowknife. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 21:04, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
- My son works for the airline (Canadian North) and we were on passes. We were on standby and the plane was full so there was just enough room for us and none for the luggage. Got it on Sunday. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 15:50, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- For some reason one the links I forgot to add to my user page was Ulukhaktok, Northwest Territories. I was hired from Scotland by the then Hudson's Bay Company and lived there for 20 years. Moving to Cambridge Bay was for us a move to a larger town. I might move somwhere larger someday but who knows. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 14:07, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

- It's better than it used to be. At one time certain companies in places like Ontario or Alberta would say that they could not ship to places "outside of Canada." CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 16:58, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- Our new cell phones, from the same people who provide the regular phone and Internet, look to be fairly expensive. The signature is in reference to The Goon Show and in particular to The Goon Show running jokes#Catch-phrases (Grytpype-Thynne's Catchphrases). Just showing my age. There's ICE Wireless (plug the company my daughter works for), Bell Mobility and probably Rogers Wireless. But I'm not really sure. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 23:11, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

No problem. I only knew about them because my daughter, who you talked to, works for them. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 07:46, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

regarding your comments
[edit]Hi, I don't doubt that what you've posted is factual and accurate. What we need for the encyclopedia is verification. Verification comes from the use of reliable third party sources, some of which the article has, but more is needed to verifiy the encyclopedic notability of the musician. Keep at it, since the article is past the first wave where stuff gets deleted, you likely have quite some time to make it better. --Rocksanddirt (talk) 19:32, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- Some of the content I've put are verifiable from websites, but some of the critical websites have been deleted. Also, some of the items, such as the cost of the album, donations, etc. come from me as I am his cousin and I've have video proof (that is personal). What should I do and how do I approach this issue?
(Rallybrendan2006 (talk) 19:34, 15 July 2008 (UTC)) Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Rocksanddirt"
- Well, the cost of the album is not encyclopedic, so I would leave it out. If a newspaper or review website hasn't commented on the donation things, they are not verifiable and should be left out also. A video that you guys put together would be 'self published' and not really count as a reliable source. --Rocksanddirt (talk) 19:38, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- As far as the legislative agenda, it doesn't have to be online, if you can figure out how/where the legislature archives them and list that (so someone really hard core, could go find it). yes, the whole idea of 'verifiability not truth' can be very frustrating. --Rocksanddirt (talk) 19:43, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- The more the better, but only assertions of notability/importance really need it. And since you've passed the new page patrol, you likely have weeks, if not months before anyone else even looks at the article. So, don't flip out, but keep looking for reliable sources and review the guidelines on notability of musicians (that will be the kicker). --Rocksanddirt (talk) 19:48, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- Check out Wikipedia:New pages patrol. There is a page Special:NewPages that lists the most recent new pages created by all users. The highlighted yellow ones have not been looked at for appropriateness to an encyclopedia. Generally, once a page is marked 'patrolled' there is quite a bit of lattitude for time to fix it up. Some pages I'll watch and if they are not better in a week or two, I'll put them up for deletion.

[edit]You're welcome! It was deleted faster than you expected because the page met Wikipedia criteria for speedy deletion (see WP:CSD#G7). :) About my user name, it is unrelated to locations, only an abbreviation of something I won't tell you! :) Have a nice day, --PeaceNT (talk) 04:44, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
From LA to the Arctic
Feel free to email me or send me a message if you are trying to visit the arctic. I'm also from LA and was up in Nunavut recently and from your talk it sounded like you were trying to get info on various things. The information is sparse so having good contacts was the only way my trip worked.
Good luck! BaShildy (talk) 12:56, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- BaShildy is nonsensical, and is used so that I have a unique username that is always available on any website. Its way too long of a story for such a simple thing :) Well Yellowknife is the capital of the NWT so it should have a significant infrastructure compared to most of Nunavut. I would recommend packing a wide variety of clothing, sunblock, bugspray, and sunglasses! I'm not really familiar with NWT so unfortuantely I am not the best person to answer questions, sorry! :( I am not an Inuk ( singular form of Inuit ), I am a white American. Inuit have almost the same tolerance to cold, but simply have lived their lives around it. The things that I have learned from them is that Seal Meat definitely has some type of warming properties to it, and certain skins keep their heat better than others like Caribou. I have been very interested about Nunavut since its creation and finally decided to visit it this year. If you are interested about my trip I am still updating a thread on SomethingAwful here: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2908480 Oh and I'm not related to Cambridge. I am a new Wikipedia contributor and since Cambridge and I share a similar interest in Nunavut we have talked back and forth on updating articles!BaShildy (talk) 09:02, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
