Your commas

[edit]

You have been inserting unnecessary commas into several articles. Is this a crusade? Moriori 03:01, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I just thought I was correcting grammar. My English textbook says that is the correct way. — Galaeron Nihmedu 02:52, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It says to insert commas when using the month/day/year format. The example it gives is the following: "Hawaii achieved statehood on August 21, 1959, and became the fiftieth state. [Notice that a comma separates the final item in a date (1959) from the words that follow it.]"
The second example is this: "Write to me at 423 Twentieth Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84101-0423, after the first of May. [Notice that a comma separates the final item in an address (84101-0423) from the words that follow it.]"
The textbook is the Holt Handbook (ISBN 0-03-065287-1), published in 2003, and written by John E. Warriner. This particular issue about grammar is trivial, however, so I don't want to make a big deal about it. — Galaeron Nihmedu 03:22, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This particular issue is about Wikipedia style, not someone else's. Wikipedia does not use a comma after the year (see Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)) and in some cases does not use a comma between day/month and year. Moriori 22:40, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Belephron (Belaphron)

[edit]

Hi there, I noticed that in Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark, when you encounter Grimgnaw in Cania, one of his followers is a lich named Belaphron. I remember fighting a lich named Belephron, I believe, in either the original NWN campaign or Shadows of Undrentide and this lich is probably meant to be the same one, though the name was altered a little, but I can't remember exactly where I fought him. If you know what I'm talking about, could you please fill me in so that I can write an entry about Belephron? Thanks.--Rouge Rosado Oui? 21:44, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have not played that game. — Galaeron Nihmedu 02:07, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dartz

[edit]

Because it is redundant with the presence of "Manga and Anime villains", which is a subcategory of "Television villains". You do not put a subcategory with a parent category in articles. 02:38, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Speedy deletes

[edit]

Hello! Just wanted to let you know that when you nominate an article for speedy-deletion, you must give a reason. See the criteria for speedy deletion for more details. -- P.B. Pilhet / Talk 02:05, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I just thought it was obvious if a new article's only content is "This cd is awesome! I love the song GROWN UP CHRISTMAS LIST!!!!!!!" — Galaeron Nihmedu 02:07, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

CSD

[edit]

Why shouldn't it be a speedy? It doesn't meet WP:N. Please advise- Tlim7882 10:47, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it is not about a person, group, company, or web content, and there are plenty of other articles on Wikipedia about schools. {{subst:afd}} allows people to discuss whether the article should be deleted or not. — Galaeron Nihmedu 10:53, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The inclusion of topics on Wikipedia is a reflection of whether those topics have been included in reliable published works. Other authors, scholars, or journalists have decided whether to give attention to a topic, and in their expertise have researched and checked the information about it. Thus, the primary notability criterion is a way to determine whether "the world" has judged a topic to be notable. This is unrelated to whether a Wikipedia editor personally finds the subject remarkable or worthy.

Tlim7882 11:00, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's what AFD is for. — Galaeron Nihmedu 11:03, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: RC Patrolling

[edit]

Darn, you keep reverting before I have a chance to. What Internet service do you use? — Quin 06:52, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NTL:Telewest (recently acquired by Virgin Media); it's broadband, but it's not particularly fast, I get error pages and slow loading times now and then like everyone else. The trick is to go after the subtle vandalism; I'm using software a bit like VandalProof, and it picks out the obvious stuff so I can revert it quickly. Subtle stuff I don't get to so fast – Qxz 06:56, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chembox new

[edit]

Hi, I see you are adding items to the {{chembox new}}. I am sorry, but most of these should be added to the sub-templates, and not to the main-section (to keep the formatting and layout consistent). The items that are still available in the main-template are there only for historic reasons, and will be removed after I have done a cleanup of the pages that use chembox new. I will move them later into the sub-templates. Hope this explains. --Dirk Beetstra T C 07:17, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thanks for the notice. — Quin 20:54, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy

[edit]

Allo.
I wouldn't normally bother leaving a message for someone just because I reverted them, but in this case, your edit (here) was both logical and in good-faith, so I figured I owed you an explanation. "Effect", though usually misused when used as a verb, can still sometimes be accurately used as a verb; specifically, when it's used to express causation or instigation. In this case, if you "bring about change", or, "cause change", then you are "effecting change". Anyways, just thought I'd mention it. Have a nifty day. Bladestorm 14:34, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

D&D creatures

[edit]

Thanks for adding some sources to the D&D creatures articles. I don't know how much they will help with the AFD, as the nominating editor is pretty determined to get rid of them and is not taking any counter arguments seriously. Either way, your efforts are appreciated. Keep up the good work! BOZ 06:37, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I had two tabs open, one for Recent IP changes and one for the IP address in question. I was refreshing those two tabs at once because it was quicker just to have those two open at any one time. Dreadstar has done the job now, so everything is as it should be. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:The Sorcerer.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:The Sorcerer.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 01:48, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Propose to delete

[edit]

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article , suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of . Speedy deletion of Template:EINECSCASNO

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Template:EINECSCASNO requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes.

An article you created maybe deleted soon: Tools which can help you

[edit]

The article you created: may be deleted from Wikipedia.

There is an ongoing debate about whether your article should be deleted here:

The faster you respond, the better chance the article you created can be saved.

Finding sources which mention the topic of your article is the very best way to avoid an article being deleted {{Findsources3}}.

Also, there are several tools and helpful editors on Wikipedia who can help you:

  1. List the page up for deletion on Article Rescue Squadron. You can get help listing your page on the Article Rescue Squadron talk page.
  2. You can request a mentor to help explain all of the complex rules that editors use to get a page deleted: Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User. But don't wait for a mentor to respond to you before responding on the article for deletion page.
  3. When trying to delete a page, veteran editors love to use a lot of rule acronyms. Don't let these acronyms intimidate you.
Here is a list acronyms you can use yourself: WP:Deletion debate acronyms which may support the page you created being kept.
  4. You can vote to merge the article into a larger or better established article on the same topic.

If your page is deleted, you still have many options available. Good luck! travb (talk) 19:36, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
