Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Quark1005, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, like Blackwood Sound Centre, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for page creation, and may soon be deleted (if it hasn't already).

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! ~ Riana 11:16, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An article you created maybe deleted soon: Tools which can help you

[edit]

The article you created: Split: A Divided America may be deleted from Wikipedia.

There is an ongoing debate about whether your article should be deleted here:

The faster you respond on this page, the better chance the article you created can be saved.

Finding sources which mention the topic of your article is the very best way to avoid an article being deleted {{Findsources3}}:

Find sources for Split: A Divided America : google news recent, google news old, google books, google scholar, NYT recent, NYT old, a9, msbooks, msacademic ...You can then cite these results in the Article for deletion discussion.

Also, there are several tools and helpful editors on Wikipedia who can help you:

  1. List the page up for deletion on Article Rescue Squadron. You can get help listing your page on the Article Rescue Squadron talk page.
  2. You can request a mentor to help explain all of the complex rules that editors use to get a page deleted: Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User. But don't wait for a mentor to respond to you before responding on the article for deletion page.
  3. When trying to delete a page, veteran editors love to use a lot of rule acronyms. Don't let these acronyms intimidate you.
Here is a list acronyms you can use yourself: WP:Deletion debate acronyms which may support the page you created being kept.
  4. You can vote to merge the article into a larger or better established article on the same topic.

If your page is deleted, you still have many options available. Good luck! travb (talk) 02:50, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Emmanuel Mouret

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Emmanuel Mouret, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

fails WP:BIO

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Information icon Hi there!

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to The Who Sell Out does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history and looking for explanations as to why changes were made, such as your recent edit to the article. Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Thanks! Dan56 (talk) 00:17, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring at The Who Sell Out

[edit]

I strongly encourage you to discuss your issue at this article's talk page rather than continuing to revert/restore your bold edits. The "claim" is an accurate summary of what is clearly cited in the article's Release and reception section (Dave Marsh, Robert Christgau, and Rolling Stone are "some" of the critics who've made the claim), and I don't understand why you are singling that bit of the sentence out as opposed to other parts of the lead. If you personally disagree with it, then that's more of a reason to discuss at the article, possibly start an RfC if you're steadfast about your position. I saw the edit history of your latest large group of edits and groaned in expectation of despair, but when actually looking at what you'd done, I was much relieved! I wish the quality of all edits to this page was at least as good as the quality of you edits. Well done, and thank you. Pdfpdf (talk) 12:42, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey - want to echo the above :) I just removed some overly promotional stuff, or stuff that wasn't otherwise cited to reliable sources. I'm happy to advise on how this could be improved, but just generally, avoid terms that are overly embellishing, like "acclaimed", "renowned", etc. There were a few in there - don't know if they were your additions, but useful to keep in mind. Thanks again for your work! — fox 06:56, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Club cricket, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page David Warner (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Pronunciation

[edit]

I keep coming across the name Rischbieth but have no idea on its pronunciation. As the geographer presumably changed spelling of his surname to help people such as me, I presume "rishbeth" is a fair approximation. Do you know? Doug butler (talk) 20:55, 29 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Doug butler: This source states: "The many descendents of the German Rischbieths still in Australia retain the original spelling, but use the Rishbeth pronunciation." But the original German was probably more like Rish-beet. --Quark1005 (talk) 21:03, 29 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Doug butler: There is also an Adelaide cyclist called Will Rischbieth who in this interview pronounces his name "Rishbeth" --Quark1005 (talk) 21:16, 29 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense. Thanks.Doug butler (talk) 00:02, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

National varieties of English

[edit]

Information icon Hello. In a recent edit to the page Cloud Atlas (novel), you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the first author of the article used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. DonIago (talk) 15:42, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
