Sorry for the late replyedfafaeww, but would you like me to review it against the good article criteria on a new review page, or would you like me to provide feedback on your talk page before you nominate it? If you would like me to review it as a GA reviewer, please nominate it for GA status and I will be the reviewer. Puffin Let's talk! 14:17, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Brass instrument is linked in the first sentence, so I'm not sure it needs to be in the catch-all "see also" section. - Special-T (talk) 21:30, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

There are a few more issues with things like citing sources and notability. I would suggest that you read this guide on your first article or writing better articles before continuing, as this will help you to understand how articles are written on Wikipedia and how you can work to get your article accepted. If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask me. Puffin Let's talk! 13:54, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

List of Big Brother 13 housemates (UK)

Hi Puffin, I guess you messaged me since you noticed I am currently active deleting articles? I have deleted the revisions you mentioned. However, this is first time doing this since the process was changed (it used to be that the article was deleted and then all good revisions were restored). I hope I have done it right - let me know if you see anything unusual! Regards, -- Chuq (talk) 11:33, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I did notice you were deleting articles. Thank you for doing it, but I don't think there was a need to delete the IP, as Wikipedia:Revision_deletion says: "Hiding of a username or IP should only be used where that username or IP has a reason in and of itself to be hidden, such as accidentally editing logged out or an attack username... This will cause issues with users trying to review actions taken on the user, as well as potential copyright violation risks." Puffin Let's talk! 11:39, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
Oops.. looks like I rushed into it. Hopefully it won't be too much of an issue - it can always be reversed. -- Chuq (talk) 12:09, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Vandalism

Please stop vandalizing articles on the Wikipedia or I'll order an admin that you will get banned from the Wikipedia! 91.119.140.182 (talk) 11:48, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

You made a great choice for that that you've added the deletion tag to this article. 91.119.140.182 (talk) 11:50, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
The speedy deletion template that you added is likely to fail, as the article does not fit that criteria. Please read Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion before adding speedy deletion tags to articles, or take a look at the tutorial to get help with editing before moving on to more serious areas such as speedy deletion. AFC Backlog

Articles for Creation urgently needs YOUR help!

Articles for Creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently there are 1881 submissions waiting to be reviewed and many help requests at our Help Desk.

Do you have what it takes?
  1. Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
  2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
  3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
  4. Are you autoconfirmed?
  5. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog. You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions.

PS: we have a great AFC helper script at User:Timotheus Canens/afchelper4.js which helps in reviewing in just few edits easily!

We would greatly appreciate your help. Currently, only a small handful of users are reviewing articles. Any help, even if it's just 2 or 3 reviews, it would be extremely beneficial.

Greetings!

Hello! Thanks for reviewing the page I was working on,Praescient_Analytics. Looks like it was rejected due to a lack of sufficient context for a reader. I understand the nature of the work at this company is a bit obscure, but how could I improve the context here?

I don't want to link directly to Praescient's website, as that wouldn't really serve as a credible source. The outside sources that I do have don't provide too much insight into the nature of their work. Here is a link to the official website: http://www.praescientanalytics.com/

Let me know if you think I could use this or not.

Thanks for your time! ScottPraescient (talk) 15:36, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Request for your assistance for The Wikipedia Library

Hi! You signed up to be a helper at the Highbeam project page. As The Wikipedia Library expands, I am seeking some assistants who can collaborate on project administration by spending a few hours now and then working on a variety of tasks.

Right now I am looking for help on the Questia round 1 signups, reviewing editors' applications to check for edit count (1000), account history (1 year), and current blocks. Note, there is no subjective judgment required, just a factual criteria-check. Here's what you can do:

  1. Sign up for a section of 50 applications at this page
  2. The first check involves using Popups (enabled in Special:Preferences -> click "Gadgets", check the box to enable Popups, then click save).
  3. By hovering over a username on the applications list, Popups will show the edit count, age of account, and whether the editor is blocked on English Wikipedia
  4. If an editor is blocked, list their name at this page
  5. If an editor does not meet the 1-year/1000 editor check using Popups, open their user talk page in a new tab in your browser.
  6. Then, you then need to check if the editor meets the criteria on another Wikipedia language project.
  7. To check global contributions use the Global Contributions surveyor] on toolserver.
  8. Toolserver is a bit slow so I find it helpful to have 3 tabs running simultaneously.
  9. Scroll down to the bottom of the toolserver results to see if 1000 edits or 1-year age of accounted are met at another project. You can also see if the editor is blocked on another project.
  10. If neither Popups nor the Global Contribution Surveyor met the criteria, then list their name at [less than 1000 edits, or less than 1 year old account|this page]
  11. Mark your section {{done}} at this page

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks so much! -- User:Ocaasi 19:50, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

Exapand of Mufa'khathat rather than deleting it

This page should not be speedily deleted because... (your reason here) --punungwe (talk) 22:30, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi please consider that this term appears in the Glossary of Islamic terms.

I will agree the article needs more work but IT IS NOT VANDALISM and is factually correct about historical and ongoing practice of 'thighing'. Of course the topic of mufa-khabthat is controversial but it does exist and therefore needs an objective and scholarly treatment. I created a stub in the hope that it would invite others to expand on the topic, not delete it.

http://councilofexmuslims.com/index.php?topic=9668.0 http://thefactsaboutislam.blogspot.com/2010/08/truth-about-thighing-mufakhathat-canard.html http://crombouke.blogspot.com/2010/01/mufa-khathat-cleaning-mess-up.html http://islamreview.blogspot.com/2006/01/aisha-ayesha-child-wife-of-muhammad.html

The practice is also mentioned elsewhere on Wikipedia http://wikiislam.net/wiki/Qur'an,_Hadith_and_Scholars:Aisha#.22Thighing.22_Aisha although the term mufa'khathat is not used, with the English term considered equivalent 'thighing' used instead.

Of course many of my sources for meaning of the term mufa'khathat are clearly less than objective, the meaning of the term and the ongoing nature of the practice is some parts of the world is clearly apparent.

Article for PICS Inventory

Hi Puffin, I understand my recent article proposed for PICS Inventory Specialists was denied because it reads too much like an advertisement. I'm confused because what I entered wasn't even a fraction of the 'advertisement' flavor of one of their competitors' articles, the one for RGIS Inventory. I really want to get something onto Wikipedia about this company, just something simple and straight-forward and I felt I accomplished this, but am frazzled at how to abide by what the wiki community is looking for. Can I ask you to either re-consider, or else put a block on the RGIS page so that there's at least a level playing field? Please advise and thanks for your consideration. Have a great day! Ricky — Preceding unsigned comment added by RickMarq (talkcontribs) 18:22, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Try reading WP:NPOV for help, as the article says: "they are the only inventory service that builds their own hardware and software in the United States" do you have a source for this? It needs to be cited. Also, the article needs to be expanded to establish more context. Ask me if you need any more help. Puffin Let's talk! 11:10, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

OK.I'm Camoka4. I am a former banned user. Unfortunately now I am making my contributions through anonym IP's. However I can still use the same account on commons to edit maps. I think my contributions have been pretty useful in the last week. (see the map changed in Turkish citizens visa req + US citizens visa req) I am tired of this cat and mouse game. Please lift my ban. I promise I will be a good guy and won't fight with anyone anymore. I had a fight with user L.tak before so he is trying to catch and report me all the time, so he can fullfill his egos. It takes me 5 seconds to get a new IP, but I'm really tired of using sockpuppets. Please end this ban, I will behave well and make useful contributions through my account. thank you.--88.240.15.118 (talk) 12:49, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

We noticed though that when you edited Aich (river), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page White fish (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hobbit (word)

Puffin,

Per your request I am responding to your message that you edited the Wikipedia entry for “Hobbit” and your request for comments concerning the accuracy of your changes. Please note that your changes are, in fact, inaccurate and a violation of Wikipedia’s terms of service.

The Saul Zaentz Company owns numerous trademark registrations in the United States and around the world for Hobbit and marks that incorporate Hobbit. For many years the public has associated Hobbit exclusively with the iconic characters created by J. R. R. Tolkien, and the myriad of movies, goods and services The Saul Zaentz Company and its licensees have marketed and sold under that trademark.

We are not aware of instances where our trademark Hobbit is used in non-Tolkien books but please let us know if you have examples of such use. But please note that, even if a third party were to make an unauthorized use of the trademark Hobbit that would not negate our global trademark rights or otherwise support your proposed Wikipedia edits.

As noted, by issuing numerous trademark registrations the United States Patent and Trademark Office and trademark offices around the world have for many years acknowledged the validity of the trademark Hobbit and The Saul Zaentz Company’s ownership of that trademark. Your attempts to edit the Wikipedia entry for Hobbit – by alleging that it is a generic term or “genericized trademark” - are therefore both factually and legally inaccurate.

As you know Wikipedia prohibits users from knowingly editing entries to include inaccurate or misleading information. We assume the foregoing information demonstrates that your proposed edits are both inaccurate and misleading and you will refrain from making any further similar edits. I assume you share our interest in resolving this matter amicably and without needing to request intervention from Wikipedia. To that end please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

(samalama666) Samalama666 (talk) 19:22, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Deosai National Park

Dear Mr Puffin, I made some constructive changes in the page Deosai National Park which stated wrongly that it is located in India. The first sentence states that it is located in Pakistan then why is the catogory India? In fact it is located in Pakistan and I have visited the place several times. If you read the text in the subject you will realize that all its access and routes are from Pakitan and it is also controled by Pakistan. I do not understand how this is not constructive as you stated in your message to me. I request you to properly probe the matter and make the neccessary corrections yourself. I am waiting. thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.177.234.102 (talk) 15:45, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

Dear Mr Puffin, you asked me for a source. Please see the article itself. It is one of Wiki project on Portal of Pakistan. The article itself states that it is located in Pakistan. you can also check by google maps. So I think the proper category is National Parks of Pakistan (etc) Since I am a new user so I would request you to correct the categories. thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.177.234.102 (talk) 15:55, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

Alycia Kaback

you let Alycia Kaback start a page, obviously not knowing who she is. Alycia started a business under her name for Michael Fomkin who has such a bad name that he had to pay Alycia to do this. Michael is a Notourious scam artist who scams stage moms and want to be models. They charge over $1,000 to sign up and another $1,000 for pictures. Her "radio show" was taken off the air because the station said they have never had so many hate letters received before. They have a history of hiring two new groups of "scouts" every week, don't pay them and just get new ones the next week. If you noticed she buy's up site's with her name and gives herself her own great review. One such example is goodagencies.com It is a site she started and rated herself. I strongly recomend removing her page. Do a little research and you will find out who she really is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.92.108.141 (talk) 18:56, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Hand-coding

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyes@wikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:31, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Mohamed Salah

http://www.soccerway.com/players/mohamed-salah/138653/ Shows all of his stats. I also know that Basel have played 3 cup games so far and Salah has played in all of them. The website only shows the matches but doesn't show who played in the first couple of rounds. He's played 12 league games, 6 Europa league games, 2 Champions League games (qualifiers or preliminary round), and 3 cup matches, which gives you 23 matches and 5 goals. So even I made a mistake and put 25 matches instead of 23.

Hallo Puffin, hallo User of IP:174.89.54.9, please note that the infobox appearances and goals are for the domestic league only. The ref www.soccerway.com shows Salah had scored 5 goals and had assisted 13 in ALL competitions through 23 matches. Thanks and greeting --Huligan0 (talk) 18:31, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

RE: User talk:82.37.222.47 (McKayla Maroney edit)

Dear Puffin

Thank you for the message that you sent me earlier, in regards to an edit I made on McKayla Maroney's Wikipedia page.

I am writing to you now, just to hopefully clear the matter up further.

The edit I made (I don't know if you have kept records of things like this!) on her page was adding a nickname for her as 'Tarzan'.

I wanted to reassure you that I had added this in good faith, as this was information I knew to be true. I have a book (just got for Christmas!) called 'The Fab Five: Jordyn Wieber, Gabby Douglas and the U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team'. It is a biography by Christine Dzidrums of the girls' early lives and preparing for the 2012 London Olympics (I happen to come from and live in London!), including McKayla. Please see this link for further details: http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Fab-Five-Gymnastics-GymnStars/dp/1938438094/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1357095568&sr=8-2

At the beginning of each girls' chapter, it stated their nickname and for McKayla, it was listed as Tarzan. I also know that she has been known as that by some of her other team mates, on other websites etc. I therefore felt that I was inserting a piece of true fact into the page. This was also done for the other four girls. Jordyn Wieber's was 'Jo', Gabby Douglas' was 'The Flying Squirrel' (which I think it already says on her Wikipedia page?), Alexandra Raisman's was 'Aly', and Kyla Ross' was 'Mighty Mouse'.

I completely respect the fact that you want the pages on Wikipedia to be as accurate and truthful as possible. I can assure you that I also strive for this. Plus, I am a huge fan of McKayla's and, therefore, I would hate to see anything on her page, that was completely untrue.

I would, therefore, like to ask if the above inclusion could take place, as it is seen to be a piece of factual information.

If you could reply back, at your earliest convenience, I would really appreciate it.

Again, I completely understand the fantastic work that you do, and I hope to work together with you here, to resolve this issue in a respected and dignified manner.

Thanks for the message

Kind regards

Andrew

Hi Puffin, I was part of that lawsuit and i don't appreciate that the settlement is publicly stated on wiki specially when we all had to pay lawyers fees etc and all signed a NDA , so please remove it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.7.128.136 (talk) 23:01, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Alexandru Darida--Submitted article for creation

JTLofton (talk) 18:21, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for reviewing the article. I created it in a sandbox on my page, then submitted it. It looks like it was tacked on the end of a previous submission that was declined for lack of citations. I cleaned up the old content & found there were two '

' tags. I believe this edit should have the citations properly listed as footnotes. I have some experience with HTML coding, but am finding Wikipedia's coding to be a slightly different beast! :^)

Terino Correction Help

Hello Puffin. Can you help by explaining or pointing our examples of what on my submission needs to be more "reliable"? I'm new to Wikipedia and have a great deal of sourced information, but I'm receiving the "Speedy deletion nomination of Edward O Terino, MD" and I do not know what to change to fix this problem. Any help you can give is much appreciated. Thank you very much. AlexN1029 (talk) 00:01, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Article Feedback deployment

Hey Puffin; I'm dropping you this note because you've used the article feedback tool in the last month or so. On Thursday and Friday the tool will be down for a major deployment; it should be up by Saturday, failing anything going wrong, and by Monday if something does :). Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:18, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

Hey,

I edited the submission yesterday and saved it. Is that all I need to do to resubmit it for review. I couldn't find anything that explicitly said 'resubmit' or anything like that. I just want to make sure you guys have a new version of the page for review.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cleezymcbreezy (talkcontribs) 19:06, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Aminet

(Replying to [1] - the edit was by me, I hadn't realised I wasn't logged in.)

The source is Aminet itself, the main page at http://aminet.net/ says the number of packages. True, it's not a 3rd party ref - but I suspect that this applies to any software download site, any numbers quoted will surely ultimately come from the site themselves, rather than being an assessment by a 3rd party. I note for Google Play we say "According to Google there are over 700,000 titles available as of October 2012.", so I guess to be sure we can attribute the claim to Aminet.

(I'm guessing my addition of the category wasn't controversial, and didn't intended to be reverted.) Mdwh (talk) 23:51, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Feedback (+ve)

Puffin, Thank you for your recent review of my new article Sandy Blight Junction Road. This is the first article I have written, and I was very pleased that you rated it as Class "C", which is higher than I was expecting. Although I have edited for two years, I was not certain that I could create an article without a peer review. I used my sandbox to write the article, and when it was ready I clicked a link which led me to the WP:AfC page, at which it seemed my article joined the queue. I shall use the Wizard next time! The James_Balsillie hockey page edit was not made in error. I have updated the article with information that is verifiable and correct. While the Hockey portion of the article was lengthy, much information was very controversial, incorrect or outdated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vigorforsale (talkcontribs) 20:43, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
