Windows Live Drive
[edit]Since the link that you provided says that Live Drive is only for remotely exposing files (and the erstwhile OneView to access and search them), shouldnt the article be updated to say that Live Drive is not a hosting service.? --soum talk 10:10, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Heya mate, I see you live in the northern suburbs. I was just wondering, do you or anyone you know have photos of the massive 1999 hailstorm that could be uploaded to Wikipedia under a free license? I'm currently writing an article about it (see User:Daniel/Sandbox/1999 Sydney hailstorm), and would love some images :) If you do, please drop me a note on my talk page; if not, no worries, keep up the great work with northern suburbs articles. Confused - Windows Live Messenger
[edit]I see that you've reverted an edit I made to the Windows Live Messenger article (Dec. 05, 07), citing a reference which does not seem to pertain specifically to the FINAL release of WLM-8.5. The source in question, seems only to reference the 8.5 BETA.
I have since been all over the net, looking to download this final 8.5 release, but have so far come up empty handed. I have indeed found download sites offering a LEAKED version of this software (which I don't trust), but absolutely nothing official. Microsoft and other official Windows Live Messenger web-sites are still posting and calling version 8.5 a BETA.
Pardon me if I've overlooked something here... but I would kindly appreciate you providing me with an OFFICIAL source-link to obtain the FINAL 8.5 release. If such a link does not yet exist, perhaps it would be wise to correct the misleading information in the article instead. Thank you :) ~ 142.177.26.171 (talk) 02:15, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Raiboxes
[edit]Hi thanks for your comments, I am enjoying doing the railboxes- helps me wind down. The issue with the North Shore I find a little vexed. I have kept the city destination on the right for all of the lines except the North Shore, the reason being that the North shore flows on from the Western Line at Town Hall/ Wynyard and I wanted the navigation to flow through. It does however I agree create a problem at Hornsby and Epping were other lines interface. I am happy to change its direction so that Central is on the right like the other lines, but will have to have a think about what to do at Town hall and Wynyard. I need to work out where to end the western line and start the North Shore line, they are of course continuations of the one line.MrHarper (talk) 02:00, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- Ive put the Western and North Shore both through to Wynyard, then North shore only beyond Wynyard, and I will reverse the direction of the North Shore line box between Milsons Pt and Hornsby. See how it goes. Regards, MrHarper (talk) 04:24, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- My understanding is that the Epping- Chatswood line will operate as a shuttle Epping---Chatswood only initially.MrHarper (talk) 05:39, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Windows Live SkyDrive
[edit]Hi Pikablu0530,
Thanks for editing the Live Skydrive page and removing the guide for setting up skydrive as a network drive. You cited the reason that this is not an official feature of Skydrive.
I agree with that, however, this is a frequently sought after information and i would like to portray that somewhere on the page. Is it possible to create a section for it and put the guide under there (instead of under Features) ? Will that abide by the rules?
The guide is to a non-commercial, ad-free site with no incentives or promotions. Simply there to be of use.

A piece of hint
[edit]Let me give you a piece of hint. Not every subject in Wikipedia merits an article. (WP:GNG) However, some articles which are on the verge of deletion may be merged into other notable articles, so that they won't get deleted.
Also, not everything may be published on Wikipedia. (WP:NOT) However, not everything that is mistakenly published on Wikipedia needs to be deleted. You can always move it to Wikibooks, Wikiversity or Wikia.

Infobox issue on Windows Live articles
[edit]Hi, Damaster98
Two things:
- I've been visiting a number of Windows Live articles and I saw that some of them use {{Infobox software}} (WRONG) instead of {{Infobox website}} (Correct choice).
- While I was editing Windows Live, I removed the Orb icon. You know that this icon not used for quite a while, right? The orb still can be seen in other historic screenshot, so I thought I let it go.
I thought I notify you because you seem to be spending a great deal on these articles. Of course, feel free to undo my changes if you have a good reason for doing so; I won't persist. If anything came up and you needed a hand, drop me a line.
Fleet Command (talk) 15:25, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
- No objections, you are right. Although I'm quite used to think web sites as every-changing organisms for which version info is... well, a bit... nonsensical. By the way, I'm curious, where do you get the version info of, say for example, Windows Live Skydrive? Is there an about dialog box or something? Fleet Command (talk) 17:45, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi again, Damaster98
So, tell me, how do you ([3]) know that Bing Bar is Silverlight-powered? (Correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that Silverlight, like Adobe Flash, is used to develop web applications, not toolbars.)

- — Fleet Command (talk) 10:24, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the sources. They are just as reliable as LiveSide, no more and no less. But I am going to use them too: I have found an authoritative source! It's the third home page of Bing Bar: www.microsoft.com/toolbar. (Yes, it's a very strange thing to do, setting up multiple home pages.)

Removal of SVG WinMesh logo
[edit]As you can see, the SVG logo for Windows Live Mesh I created here is not badly put together as much as rendering weird in the size the article implies. I've spent a while working on a workaround, but have finally found that no matter what I do, things no longer work lower than a 68px width. Therefore, I think it would be completely appropriate to re-insert the image at a width of, say, 70px or more.
I would insert it myself, but I think it would be more appripriate to ask you, the one who deleted it, what you think, before I do.

Use of {{Microsoft screenshot}}
[edit]Hi, Damaster98
When you upload screenshots of commercially-released desktop software of Microsoft corporation, please use {{Microsoft screenshot}} license tag instead of {{Non-free software screenshot}} to tag those images. In case you badly want to know why, this tag helps people identify these images as "authorized use" instead of fair-use.

Let me tell you joke: Microsoft Safety Scanner EULA says:

Do you think I should cite from it in the article? Fleet Command (talk) 08:22, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
- The only program that can be tested against this product is a malware! The fact is that it is not a standard EULA at all; it is only valid for Visual Studio or something like this. I tried to contact Microsoft via chat but the attending person was so dumb. All of sudden she asked whether I am from ... Syria or Iran or something. So, I am going to cite it, just to attract some attention. Fleet Command (talk) 17:27, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

SkyDrive logo
[edit]Hello, Damaster98
I think there is something you should know about the new version of File:Windows Live SkyDrive logo.png that you recently uploaded. What you uploaded is (currently) the icon of "SkyDrive for Windows" (a Windows app) not the logo of SkyDrive.com. The fair-use rationale of the image says that this logo is meant to identify SkyDrive, a file hosting service but what you uploaded does not identify the service. Please bear in mind that Wikipedia is not a crystal ball: You cannot upload a new logo which your company is planning to use in the future.
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 14:32, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hello, again
- Your reply in my talk page shows that I might need to paraphrase my message: In Wikipedia, we are bound by Wikipedia policies before being bound by implications of an announcement in a blog post. The first policy, WP:NFCC requires that you supply a fair-use rationale for using a non-free logo. The rationale that is currently in effect says this logo is to help reader identify a file hosting service called SkyDrive. Unfortunately, this logo (which you uploaded) does not appear anywhere on skydrive
.live .com, login .live .com or explore .live .com /skydrive. So, either the logo should be changed to what is display on these sites, or another valid rationale should be given as to why a logo that is not appearing anywhere is used.
- Any questions so far?
- Best regards,
- Codename Lisa (talk) 17:49, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hello
- Seems we have no problem so far. Good. Now, moving on: What you posted on my talk page was your new fair-use rationale. (You've obviously chosen the second option "another valid rationale should be given".) The only problem is: what is it doing on my talk page? It should placed on image itself.
- Any question so far? If not, I will proceed to the last part.
- Best regards,
- Codename Lisa (talk) 15:00, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hi.
- Actually, I was talking about the last part of our conversion. (Sure, I can add the rationale. But if I were in your shoes, I'd expect the courtesy of letting me try my hand first.) So, moving on: Per WP:NFCC#3, the uploaded image is far bigger (in terms of width and height) than we need. It should be downsized to 250 pixels width. (But I myself prefer a 64x64 cloud icon without the wordmark. What do you say?) Next, its name should also change to match the rationale. It also needs a transparent background. Finally, it needs an explanatory caption in the infobox which explains all you explained in my talk page, but succinctly so.
- Any comments before I commit these changes?
- Best regards,
- Codename Lisa (talk) 19:43, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
- P.S. Actually, since you are able to revert, I think I'll upload a new version, so that you can see it in action. If you didn't like, then we discussion again, right? Codename Lisa (talk) 20:03, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

[edit]I'm sorry but I know that Wikipedia is free, Windows Live, items are not yours because anyone can edit you are not the owner. :) Thanks, Danifronter (talk) 14:47, 22-08-2012 (UTC)
- Whilst Wikipedia is free for anyone to edit, there are policies and guidelines that editors needs to follow. Simply blatantly making major changes like renaming or merging articles without any acceptable reason given or asking for consensus is not acceptable. And mind you, I am free to revert changes too. --Damaster98 (talk) 02:01, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Genre of SkyDrive
[edit]Hi, Damaster98. How's life?
I see that you don't think SkyDrive is a utility software. So, what do you think it is?
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 13:08, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hi.
- Your answer is right, but about the wrong thing. The term "online backup service" describes the online component, not the client software. SkyDrive.com's infobox already says file hosting service. But back to backup topic, backup software is a subclass of utility.
- But I was thinking maybe SkyDrive apps are file managers (a form of utility), File synchronization apps (another form of utility), maybe download manager (a network utility). So, if you still don't like utility, your choice is not restricted to one subclass. Take your pick(s). John Biancato and I chose "utility" because it is a hypernym.
- Best regards,
- Codename Lisa (talk) 08:57, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hi.
- Actually, perhaps we should not give them that kind of a dilemma.
|genre=[[file manager]], [[file synchronization]]
is just fine, isn't it? But that does not have to be the only measure. "§ Client applications" section has the freedom to elaborate further: Microsoft has released a number of client utility programs for SkyDrive. File manager clients are ... File synchronization clients are ... It is a compromise but I think it is an excellent compromise.
- Actually, perhaps we should not give them that kind of a dilemma.
- Best regards,
- Codename Lisa (talk) 16:14, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

The case of "Sundance"
[edit]Hi.
I saw this edit of yours in Windows Movie Maker and I went after finding sources for Sundance. I found these sources: [5], [6], [7], [8]. Looks like Sundance was an actual codename but not for Movie Maker. (It is about a security-based solution accelerator for Windows and Office.) I searched for "Sundance movie maker" string and the result were sites that had copied word for word from Wikipedia.
I think we either need a reliable source or else we have to strike that codename from the article.

SkyDrive: expiration
[edit]Hello! You have undone my section here. I could agree that "issue" may be not the best title where the information about termination of the service should be placed (although, from user of service point, the termination is undesired effect anyway). I can agree that condition of termination of service "is common for all services using Microsoft account", but was it mentioned elsewhere in the article? I have not found this info, this was the main reason of the "Expiration" paragraph. The lack of necessary information and/or appropriate link to Services Agreement may misinform the readers, interesting in long-term backup storage, giving them the false impression that expiration does not exist at all (not everybody carefully reads ToS nowadays, unfortunately).
So, the best action for you would be not only to undo my notice, but also to find the more appropriate way to mention about those 270 days in the article: move the text to another section, or rephrase it, add the note with link to official agreement, or something similar. Or, if you strictly believe that such info would be inappropriate in the article in any way, please explain the reason here. Yaroslav. --95.165.220.5 (talk) 13:22, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
Hotmail under Microsoft's Windows Live Template like Outlook
[edit]I understand that Hotmail is now discontinued, and all user accounts migrated to Outlook, but then it still comes under Windows Live services. And hence in my opinion, should be included in the list. For future kids, they must know that even this came under this. Once the readers open the hotmail page, it is immediately revealed that at one point of time, this was discontinued and then Outlook continued with the legacy as an improvised version. Just my opinion. See if it strikes you! Thanks Compfreak7 (talk) 09:02, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Invitation
[edit]There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.
As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Please sign up on the editathon project page if you can participate either online or in person with other Wikipedians. Hope to see you there! Lankiveil (speak to me) 07:16, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. File permission problem with File:Eastwood Easy Access Upgrade.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Eastwood Easy Access Upgrade.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jon Kolbert (talk) 05:42, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

The file File:SydneyMetro.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
unused, low-res, no obvious use
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
