FYI

I've compiled a list of infoboxes missing from Category:Infobox templates, and another of infoboxes missing from Wikipedia:List of infoboxes, which you might find useful. They might contain some false positives. Alakzi (talk) 16:45, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

Useful thanks, I see some recent creations on there. Also, in the latter at least, the hardcoded instances of {{Infobox element}}, which are mentioned in the existing list, under Wikipedia:List of infoboxes#Other science and nature. Hello, Andy, my name is thelogoontherun. I saw that you left a message saying that my template was nominated for deletion. First of all, if you would like to my template, you will have to give a valid reason. There was no reason whatsoever, and this is breaking Wikipedia's guidelines. Discuss on my talk page to talk more about this.

Thank you, Thelogoontherun (talk) 19:52, 3 August 2015 (UTC)thelogoontherun

@Thelogoontherun: I suggest you read the discussion, which was linked to from the message on your talk page. The text "nominated for deletion" in that message is a link to the guidelines, that you erroneously assert that I am breaking. L.S. Lowry

I don't understand why you reverted my edit or what your edit summary means here You asked for clarification as to what the record was. I read the citation, changed the text to say it was a record price for a Lowry painting and removed the tag. I didn't add any links, so what has your garbled summary about a link directory got to do with anything - and what further clarification do you need? Richerman (talk) 16:59, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

I misunderstood your edit, due to the ambiguous edit summary. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:03, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
What was ambiguous about it? The information you asked for was clearly in the online reference given. Richerman (talk) 17:11, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

Edit

Can you double-check your edit at [18] please? I'm not objecting to the alt or url edits; it's the other changes that are raising my eyebrows... (although I'm sure someone will come along soon who will try to add the "official website" back as an external rather than infobox link!) Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 20:06, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

Yet you reverted those changes? I'm not sure which change(s) you do object to - please be more specific. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:14, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
I'm 95% OK with the changes you made to the infobox (except for the car park change), but why the other changes? Perhaps they were accidental? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 20:20, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
@Mike Peel: Car parks should not be included, per WP:NOTDIRECTORY. I removed blank params which are unlikely to be used, and added the accreditation body and country of location. Are you referring to that or something else? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:24, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
OK, leaving aside the car park point (and the other infobox edits), you reverted other edits in the rest of the text - but perhaps that was accidental? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 20:29, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

Template: infobox arab tribe

I think that that there is need for a type of infobox that can be used specifically for the long list of arab tribes (see Tribes of Arabia). Hi, Pigsonthewing,

I see you just moved a template[35] but it looks like the move introduced a spelling error in the template name. You may want to check spelling and otherwise check for editor consensus (is that recorded somewhere else?) before proceeding with this project. I'd change the template title myself, except maybe you are in the middle of a project, so I thought I should let you know. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ophelia Gordon Bell, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Risley. Need help with logo images, please

Hello Andy, I just want some help in figuring out how the logo licensing works in wiki commons. I was writing an article about an institute IMDEA Nanoscience Institute within a network and uploaded a logo of it, but it has been removed due to copyright, bla blah. I don't fully get how it works because the other logo images for the same institute exist in the commons under fair use license. Can you explain this to me? Should I ask to undelete my file? Cheers Frostdawn (talk) 20:11, 16 August 2015 (UTC)

@Frostdawn: If the logo is simple typography, with no artistic component, you can upload to Commons, per this guideline. Otherwise, you can upload it directly to (this) Wikipedia under "fair use"; see Wikipedia:Logos. I have no idea what's done on the Russian Wikipedia. Note your revert – not a big deal, but shouldn't we be a little careful about making edits so close together on high-risk templates? After all, the dep notice was noincluded. – Painius  11:28, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

I'm not aware of any such moratorium. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:30, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
While there is no specific policy nor guideline, I've had recent discussions with admins, one of whom was concerned about the effect of high-risk template edits on the server load, and another who explained how and why such back-to-back edits on high-risk templates should only be done if the first edit might be harmful. Otherwise there is risk to the server load that is not in accord with the wmf:Terms of Use#4. Refraining from Certain Activities, Engaging in Disruptive and Illegal Misuse of Facilities, specifically: "Disrupting the services by placing an undue burden on a Project website or the networks or servers connected with a Project website". TheDJ instructs that making two edits to a high-risk template in a single day "would be suboptimal" in terms of the load on the server. Just fyi. Joys! – Painius  12:07, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

Infobox transmitter

One of your recent edits to Template:Infobox transmitter (the last one, I think) has caused more than 150 articles to be listed in Category:Pages with malformed coordinate tags because they're now displaying two sets of coordinates in the title position. I know very little about template coding and am unable to identify what, exactly, the trouble is. Could you look into the matter and try to correct the problem? Deor (talk) 13:45, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

@Deor: Fix is this; because they have the coordinates entered twice. I'll ask someone with AWB to mop up, shortly. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:49, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
It looks as though User:Redrose64 has cleaned these up, except for the few I did myself. (A cautionary tale about using Wikidata to store coordinates: The Wikidata entry for Borj-e Sefid had coordinates corresponding to a location in West Yorkshire rather than Tehran, picked up from the erroneous coordinates in our article. Fortunately, there appears to be no article about it in any other language, so the problem hasn't had a chance to spread.) Deor (talk) 22:18, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

Closure of TfDs

Hi Andy; I really don't think that you should have closed these four TfDs. WP:NACD says "closing discussions in which you have offered an opinion ... should be avoided", which applies to all four; it also says "non-administrators should not close discussions in which they lack the technical ability to act upon the outcome, such as deletion", which applies to three of them. It also says "when closing deletion discussions, users should indicate in the closing decision that they are not administrators", which you don't appear to have done. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:48, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

Gosh! All the harm I've done to the project! Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:54, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
Can we not kick up a fuss about this right now, as long as the actual closures are good, please? TfD is massively backlogged again and more people moving the simple/uncontested discussions along is a good thing. Opabinia regalis (talk) 21:13, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

I'll echo this, sorry. I appreciate you taking on the work at TfD, and I'm pleased to see that non-admins got the go ahead to close discussions there as delete, but you should absolutely not be closing discussions where you've given an opinion – this applies across the board, whatever the process and whatever userrights the closer has. WP:DRV. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:36, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
Hey, come on. You want to close things, that's great – but you have to be willing to have discussions about your closures and actually take on board what other people are telling you in good faith, you can't just fob everyone off with snide remarks. I really don't want to escalate this anywhere. Jenks24 (talk) 22:50, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
WP:DRV. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:51, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
Oh, I hadn't noticed those were also your nominations. Yeah, better to avoid that, unless it's a withdrawal or a procedural thing. "Discussion closed by nominator" will get overturned at DRV, which someone will do eventually, which will be a waste of time. Opabinia regalis (talk) 23:05, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

I've taken this to AN. Please see Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive273#Involved TfD closures. Jenks24 (talk) 14:48, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

Presumably because you can cause more dramah there than at the correct venue, WP:DRV? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:43, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
You know full well that they're raising a problem with your behavior rather than the decisions you reached and don't necessarily want the decisions themselves overturned. Any admin can re-open your closures without DRV and they would not be wrong in doing so. Quite simply, closing discussions you're involved in is just something we do not do here. This is explicitly prohibited by WP:NACD, and according to longstanding consensus, is simply something that's not done. The fundamental requirement for closing discussions is to be uninvolved (see Wikipedia:Closing discussions#Closure procedure). Even if invoking some sort of unusual justification for doing this, you should have known full well that your involved closures were out of process and would probably be questioned, and you should not have responded with rudeness and sarcasm as you did. Since you're obviously unwilling to discuss this in good faith with your fellow members of the community, I will have to simply warn you that your closes are in violation of community consensus as written at Wikipedia:Deletion process, and that you'll need to stop. Stick to closing discussions you're not involved in, by all means, but be prepared to offer a transparent explanation, per Wikipedia:Closing discussions#Consensus and Wikipedia:Guide to deletion#Closure. If you're unable to do this, you should not be closing discussions. Swarm 17:08, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
tl;dr. No admin has seen fit to reopen any of the closures. It would be idiocy to do so. NACD "prohibits" nothing. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:45, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

I'd be happy to, but my time is tied up defending myself against false allegations. Perhaps you can help? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:45, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
Ignore it. Nobody really cares. Or to be precise, the proportion of the 1,000 people a day (give or take) who read Rick's article, I'd speculate the proportion of those who care about some random food fight on ANI to be approximately 0. I'd also speculate the proportion of GLAM attendees who care about it to be roughly in the same ballpark. I don't know what works for you but for me a nice romantic meal and coffee with the other half works, or failing that, putting John Peel's 1970 Floyd In Concert session on full blast, which STILL hasn't been officially released ... some day I'll get round to recording my own version of "The Embryo" and put it out there. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:01, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your well-meant advice, but my experience of other, similarly false, allegations is that it will be used against me, and people will ignore (or not care about) the context. I'm prepared to consider a nice romantic meal and coffee with your other half, but may I see a picture first? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:16, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
O ye of little faith, I see the sanction has been dropped. I can do better than a photo, but I don't think she's going to be up for the rest of the offer I'm afraid :-/ You'll just have to get it out of your system some other way. It's so nice to see a Floyd tribute band do something that's not just a rehash of the Live 8 set.....anyway, I digress Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:29, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
