Arkive Range Attribution
[edit]Hi Andy,
I had occasion to look through the Arkive images a couple of days ago for Acrocephalus luscinius. I have a question. Is there somewhere on the species pages information as to the exact locales in which each photo was shot? I ask because the A. luscinius sensu largo is being split. V. Cibois, Beadell, Graves, Pasquet, Slikas, Sonsthagen, Thibault & Fleischer 2011. Charting the course of reed-warblers across the Pacific islands. J Biogeogr

It becomes of topical interest therefore the precise locales in which those photos were shot.Steve Pryor (talk) 08:39, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Entoloma bloxamii

Cow Infobox template
[edit]G'day Andy, I came across your cow Infobox template, and propose making a few minor changes before incorporating an Infobox in an article I've been writing. I'll post my proposals on the template's discussion page + reasons. As a relative newcomer to Wikipedia editing, I would appreciate your input. Cheers.Aussiefrank (talk) 07:29, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi Andy
[edit]Could you resist making invites until the contest is over? Actually if you suggest that "they join you after the contest finishes on the 27th and the prizes are awarded on Deptember 3rd live on the net" then that would benefit both projects and I would really like you to do that. Children's Museum article update
[edit]Hi Andy! I was excited to see you add the sentence about QRpedia to The Children's Museum of Indianapolis article. I've wanted so badly to update that article in any way, but now I really can't because now I'm staff (press release). I'm glad to be linked to the QRpedia page in the Wiki-verse; makes everything seem right in the world. :) I was wondering if you'd be willing to add that there are QRpedia codes in two of our main exhibits: All Aboard! to the Reuben Wells (locomotive) article and Carousel Wishes and Dreams to the Broad Ripple Park Carousel article, which is an FA. The facts are in the source. Thanks for thinking of us! LoriLee (talk) 12:08, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- Sure. Drop an exact draft of the wording here and I'll move it across. Are there any relevant images, showing the QR codes, available? And congratulations on your appointment! Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 12:13, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- QRpedia codes are currently located in the All Aboard! exhibit, which directs users to the Reuben Wells steam engine Wikipedia article, and in the Carousel Wishes and Dreams exhibit, which links to the Broad Ripple Park Carousel article.
- Commons:File:QR Code at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis.jpg But it may need to be cropped. We're working on getting some better photos up featuring our QRpedia labels. Feel free to tweak my comma usage or grammar in general. I have my three year old running around at my feet at the moment. Thanks for your kind words. Appreciate it! LoriLee (talk) 12:26, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- All done; I tried cropping the image, but there's a degree of camera shake, due to the low light no doubt, and cropping emphasises it. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 13:51, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- Ah yes, I had the same problem. Thank you for trying. And a big thankyou for your updates to the article. (I guess we need a Wikipedian-in-Residence article next, huh? Funny how things snowball. Very glad to have the QRpedia article up. Thanks for your initiative! LoriLee (talk) 16:49, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Deinacrida rugosa

flatlist
[edit]You're behind template:flatlist; think you could get this into use? It would obviate a gazillion nowrap templates and the ·w things; also 'fix' all the places no one bothered with the wrap issue. I'm looking at it for instances such as:
* article (2011)
and am thinking the all flatlist-items should be nowrap. Currently the above tow can appear on successive lines, unless messy code is added to each item in each template. --Buck 07:42, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- That looks good but are we sure it wouldn't break anything? I suggest you propose it on Wikipedia:Manual of Style (lists) with a pointer to the discussion, from WP:VPT. I'll then add my support, but it will allow those with a greater understanding of such issues to spot any potential flaws. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 10:53, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- Meh. It worked for me. What could break? Some fool putting an 80 character item into a navbox? Deserves breaking. I figured you'd know what's out there on millions of articles. --Buck 11:12, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
Harold Baim
[edit]Dear Pigsonthewing
Re Harold Baim
I really don't know what to do. You ask me not be commercial or make comments about The Baim Collection - and when I do you revert to a version with comment that could be taken as promotion. I'd really prefer there was no entry for Harold Baim on the site as your editing and changes have become very tiresome. You seem to be implying I have used the entry for some unspoken of hidden gain by this conflict of interest nonsense. There is no one else on the planet that knows any of this stuff - I promise you! Harold Baim would have loved the attention - but I don't, so stop your small minded editing of a page that's been up for years - take the whole thing down and let's wait for someone to write an independent article and research the topic properly. I spent money and hours finding Harolds true date of birth - when I add it to the entry you remove it. Why? your are not acting as an editor by doing this.
Sorry, but it's difficult to take some one seriously who edits articles badly and claims I have a conflict of interest.
I'd be pleased if you would remove the entire entry for Harold Baim. please e-mail me and confirm this will be done.
Yours, greatly disappointed

- I'm sorry you feel like that. You have had offers (which still stand) of help on your talk page, from me and another editor, which you seem to have chosen to ignore. When you edited Wikipedia, you agreed to donate your contributions and that they could be edited by other people. So no, the article will not be deleted. 2011 England riots
[edit]Hello Andy. There has been a resurgence of edit warring over the infobox location details in 2011 England riots. To try to stabilise this, and raise another closely related issue, I've started a discussion topic here: Talk:2011 England riots#Location details, widespread pattern of arrests. I'd be grateful if you would come and comment. Thanks. Rubywine . talk 01:12, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
New QRpedia image
[edit]Hi Andy! Today I was finally able to upload a better image of one of our QRpedia labels to Commons. Their label received rave reviews regarding how to effectively "interpret" QR codes to visitors in order to make them more user friendly. So I think it's not only a great example of QRpedia in use, but also of QR code usage in exhibits in general. I think it'd be overstepping, COI-wise, if I added it directly to the article. But I'd be happy for you to add it to the QRpedia article as an example of QRpedia in use, and perhaps replace the image in The Children's Museum of Indianapolis article as well? Happy to hear your thoughts. Thanks! LoriLee (talk) 18:54, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
- Done! And on Broad Ripple Park Carousel, too. Thanks for the image - I'll be using it in a presentation to museum staff from around my home region, in a couple of weeks. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 22:12, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not really sure it really adds that much to the Carousel article though.. what new information does it illuminate about the carousel itself to have it mentioned like that? Note I haven't reverted it, but as a section, it might have been considered extraneous and trivia during the FAC, and might have had some reviewers question its inclusion....Ealdgyth - Talk 22:23, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Materialscientist (talk) 08:22, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
I've restored the good job you did with the aligning. The reaosn why I reverted you because the subject of the TFD was complaining it was too big and your edits made it bigger and I had a feeling people would vote to delete that. But I agree it is tidier and easier to follow. I was disappointed though in all honesty by your response and the way you removed my post here. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:45, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
- I suggest you consider the final sentence in your last comment here, which as the reason I removed it. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 21:53, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Why is that offensive to you? We would seemingly share the same goals on wikipedia in regards to template standardization.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:01, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
