Arbitration

  • Following the banning of an editor by the WMF last year, the Arbitration Committee resolved to hold an RfC regarding on-wiki harassment. The RfC has been posted at Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Anti-harassment RfC and is open to comments from the community.
  • The Medicine case was closed, with a remedy authorizing standard discretionary sanctions for all discussions about pharmaceutical drug prices and pricing and for edits adding, changing, or removing pharmaceutical drug prices or pricing from articles.

Cunningham

It is sourced in the biography, that should be ovbious. They were "Plover" birds. As for the name of such birds see the sourced article Kentish plover. Universally they were regarded the as the same species until 2011 - this incident occurred in 1975 and the biography was published in 2002. Dapi89 (talk) 17:08, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

I'm not clear why you're posting here, rather than on the article's talk page. I'm also unclear why you described my original removal of a claim that a plane in England hit a flock of a species of bird that "breeds in Ecuador, Peru, Chile, the southern and western United States and the Caribbean" as "incorrect".
"sourced in the biography, that should be ovbious [sic]" doesn't meet our standards. Restoring such unsourced material with an edit summary of "nope" is not acceptable. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:40, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
Wow
  1. It doesn't make any difference where I post.
  2. its sourced, which you were already told, so "nope" is entirely acceptable.
  3. the plover is not native to South America only. The Kentish and Snowy types were considered one and the same until 2011.
And since the incident occurred in 1975, and the source published in 2002 they are described as one and the same in the source. Dapi89 (talk) 17:49, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
Again: soured in your head doesn't meet our standards; an inline source in the article is required, for a challenged statement. The link I initially removed referred to a species which, on the linked page, is explicitly described as above. Don't post here again. Use the article talk page, or not. Up to you. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 18:11, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

Deleting a re-direct

My article Jo_King_(triathlete) is still showing an active re-direct even after I tried to delete the re-direct in my sandbox. Also, although the title of the article looks ok - it's not searchable when I search "jo king (triathlete) in the search box.

Would you mind helping me please? Mojiayan (talk) 08:39, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

@Mojiayan: That seems to be OK now; sometimes you need to "purge" the cached version of a page to see the current version; see Wikipedia:Purge. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:35, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

Motherfoclóir

Regarding your part-reversion of my edits to Darach Ó Séaghdha: the title of the book Motherfoclóir is a bilingual play on words — foclóir is Irish for 'dictionary', but the combined word sounds like motherfucker. It's not a single dictionary word, so how it should be tagged is something of an edge case. At least for the sake of screenreaders, I would suggest the tagging of the second half of the title as being Irish is the best way to handle that, surely? — OwenBlacker (he/him; Talk; please {{ping}} me in replies) 17:56, 10 July 2020 (UTC)

I'm aware of the etymology. As I said in my edit summary, I'm not convinced that a word can change language at its mid-point. Likewise, I'm not convinced that screenreaders would recognise such a change. I suggest opening a discussion on the template's talk page, perhaps with a pointer to it on the talk page of the accessibility project. Hi Andy! One question on referencing

I do not seem to get the "one-reference-cited-twice" thing working. So that the same source/citation appears at two different locations in the article, each linking to the same entry in the references list. Can you maybe provide me with your source code of your sandbox, that you showed earlier? Thank you so much for your help! --SteffenCoe (talk) 10:16, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

@SteffenCoe: I can see the problem, in your sandbox. I will explain after lunch, when we can use a side room of the video call. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:19, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
