User talk:Pholcomb9
Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Pholcomb9, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited appears to be an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.
The page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page. If your contributions to an existing article about yourself are undone and you wish to add to it, please propose the changes on its talk page.

Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Pholcomb9. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 21:30, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
This is not a conflict of interest by the definition Wikipedia provides. I met Gena Montabalno ("employer") and we spoke about her son's basketball career so far, and she asked me via comments on a blog about another HS Basketball Player if I would be able to help create the page. I agreed to help her out for free, so I am not getting any compensation for this. She is the only person I have "worked" with, as she has provided me with the info needed. Please advise.
- That still represents a conflict of interest, which you should disclose per the guidelines linked above. Now the point is somewhat moot, as Montalbano is not notable. As I mentioned previously, there are essentially no 15 year olds notable enough to be on Wikipedia. The only people under 18 that are on Wikipedia are very, very famous -- such as Greta Thunberg. My recommendation is that you look for different areas to edit on Wikipedia, and get a feel for how the site works. Then, in a few years when Montalbano might be notable you could write about them again. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 21:55, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Tess Vockler
[edit]Hello Pholcomb9,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Tess Vockler for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Hello, I'm Deb. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.Deb (talk) 18:27, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
- Even though I advised you that advertising is not allowed in my message above, you wrote this on my Talk page:"This page should not be speedily deleted because this is a fan page". Fan pages are advertising. Fan pages are not allowed on Wikipedia. Deb (talk) 16:38, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
Hi Deb,
By fan page I meant that I am a fan of her work - she already has a website ("Fan Page"), that I pulled her information from. Wouldn't most people writing about topics be a fan of that topic? I am not arguing at all, and I appreciate the response, I am just wondering how to properly make a page for an artist who is notable & has a following, and therefore people that would be interested in learning more? Nothing I wrote was objective, as it is all facts found from my research. Thanks again for your time! - P
- A person's official page is usually not the best place to look for objective information, as it's designed to make them look good. You would need much better sources. See Wikipedia:Verifiability. Deb (talk) 09:24, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
