WP:Hornbook -- a new WP:Law task force for the J.D. curriculum

Hi Phileasson,

I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in United States legal articles to take a look at WP:Hornbook, the new "JD curriculum task force".

Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.

• Each casebook will have a subpage.

• Over the course of a semester, each subpage will shift its focus to track the unfolding curriculum(s) for classes using that casebook around the country.
• It will also feature an extensive, hyperlinked "index" or "outline" to that casebook, pointing to pages, headers, or {{anchors}} in Wikipedia (example).
• Individual law schools can freely adapt our casebook outlines to the idiosyncratic curriculum devised by each individual professor.

• I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using WP:Hornbook as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.

What you can do now:

1. Add WP:Hornbook to your watchlist, {{User Hornbook}} to your userpage, and ~~~~ to Wikipedia:Hornbook/participants.

2. If you're a law student,

• Email http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:Hornbook to your classmates, and tell them to do the same.
• Contact me directly via talk page or email about coordinating a chapter of "Student WP:Hornbook Editors" at your own school.

(You don't have to start the club, or even be involved in it; just help direct me to someone who might.)

3. Introduce yourself to me. Law editors on Wikipedia are a scarce commodity. Do knock on my talk page if there's an article you'd like help on.

Speedy Deletion of article

Hi Phileasson. I created yesterday a page for the company I work for called " Richard Heath and Associates, Inc." and the page was tagged for speedy deletion (and it is already gone) due to G13 and G11. I read both G13 and G11 and I do not believe that it was copyright infringement, and also I do not believe that it was marketing, but rather just telling what the company does. Indeed, I copied some of the informational stuff from the company website, but it was not copyrighted. A bunch of us from the office were planning to use the wikipedia description of the company on our facebook pages, but I did not know that it was going to be deleted. Is it possible that you could clarify why it was considered marketing and why it was considered copyright infringement? I spent a good amount of time working on the page to make it look good, like the Wikipedia articles, and I even researched other articles for companies, like IBM, JetBlue, PG&E to stick to a format that "works" for wikipedia. Getting Wikimedians to the Olympic Games

Hi. I am part of an effort to get Wikimedians access to the 2016 Summer Olympics as accredited reporters and photographers. Part of this effort includes covering the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Two Wikimedians have credentials to attend these games as reporters through Wikimedia Australia. As English Wikipedia does not allow original reporting, this is largely through Wikinews with a project page found at Wikinews:Paralympic Games. If you are interested in helping to get Wikimedians to the next Summer Olympics,I'd encourage you to assist with Wikinews efforts, and also to work on all language 2012 Summer Paralympic Wikipedia articles before, during and after the Games to demonstrate a track record of success. Hello Phileasson, Thank you for your explanation. I searched for English articles. In vain. Only recipes and second hand editions. Dutch articles are hard to find to. The article of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek, or the Dutch Library of Congress, is by far the best I could find. Dutch cookbooks are hidden cultural heritage. I hope it is okay now. BTW tags should be more informative. It is not the first time. A picture of the Nieuwe Haagse Kookboek was removed recently because of copyright violations without any explanation in the tag. Finally it proved to be that the authors of the book were not 75 years years dead already. These kind of puzzles out of laziness costs unneccessary time and frustration. Dear Rinorusso, please take a look at the relevant criteria for notability at WP:WEB, and especially WP:WEBCRIT. TinyURL has some significant coverage in media and other sources. Dear Uberaccount, I was trying to find at least a little information about that guy. The Wikipedia entry of his club FK Shkëndija does not mention his name, a google search returned no results, while the club's homepage is under construction, and he is exactly as tall as the original editor User:Klaudio hoxha K.A.H (OK, that might be coincidental). I'm not sure if it's really a hoax, but I couldn't find anything to prove his existence either. Even if he was existing, he does fail WP:NFOOTY (the table describes him as a under-17 player...). To be completely honest, I was not aware of the guideline you mentioned and had a slightly different understanding of the warnings system so far. But it absolutely makes sense. Ramona Pagel

You left a tag on the top of this article, but the tag provide no description of what is wrong. Worse yet, you went to the Talk page, but still didn't say anything. Another editor just used a phrase that describes this activity, which I will start employing. This is tag spam. All a tag is, is you, a single individual, complaining about the article. If there is a problem, rather than spamming and defacing the article with a tag, fix it. If you don't want to or can't fix it, then at least have the courtesy to explain what your complaint is. Otherwise, your unfocused complaining, your defacing the article, is just vandalism. Trackinfo (talk) 22:23, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

Dear Trackinfo, thank you very much for your comment! Maybe I should clarify a few things: 1. Of course, I did place the "citation style"-tag on the article intentionally and, in my opinion, for a good reason. If you take a close look at the references section of the article, you'll see that the first reference uses a quite appropriate inline citation format, the second and third plain URL, and the others are mere external links with no inline citation (although such might be useful). 2. The alternative to this tag would have been to place two tags for "more footnotes" and "linkrot". I always prefer to use as few tags as possible to avoid distraction for the reader. 3. The tag is, again in my opinion, quite self-explanatory. It's a rather short article and the problems meant by the tag are quite obvious once you take a look at the references-section. That's why I didn't see, and still don't see, the necessity to explain anything further on the talk page. 4. I went to the talk page to assess the article, and several others, for the WikiProject Olympics, of which you are a fellow member.

I hope, you will accept that I do respectfully disagree with your opinion that placing the 'citation style'-tag on that article constitutes 'tag spam'. Furthermore, while I certainly not take your criticism personally, I could imagine that some other editors would. I would highly welcome if you could use a kind of different wording in such cases and especially try to avoid the term vandalism if possible. Of the six refs, three are general refs; two are bare URLs; and one is formatted using {{cite web}}. You are obviously not the first editor I have run into this. I addressed this situation long ago in my user page User:Trackinfo#Link rot, continue onto Tagging. In this case you didn't even specify Link rot, you just left an even more generic complaint. Its obvious I'm not inclined to waste my time to run reflnks on an article, just for the pure useless satisfaction of perfectly formatting a source. A properly directed bare URL can take any user to the source of the information, the formatting provides NO additional direction or information. Fine, if you think that hidden wikiformatting is necessary for the source, you can push the reflinks button yourself. You didn't. You took the time to edit the article, but your edit, actually your two edits, served no purpose other than to deface the article and to deface the credibility of wikipedia in general. The public doesn't see the differences in the formatting of a source, they just see the source of the information. They DO see your tag as the first thing in the article. They think there is a problem here. There is no problem other than your opinion (and obviously that of a few other high level wiki editors) that the sources are not ideally formatted. So really, your edits are not any more productive than the idiots who edit "poo" into articles. Trackinfo (talk) 00:08, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

Invitation to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Phileasson. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment.
