Thanks for starting to fix this. I'm glad someone followed up quickly enough. DGG ( talk ) 02:21, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

To be honest, that's as far as I can go! My local libraries have no information that I can find, I can't find anything else through Google, and I can't afford to go into Central London to research further about a subject I'm not particularly interested in! However, there's enough to save it from being delete for the time being - I am happy to leave it in Wikipedia, as there's enough information to convince me that he had an influence on the situation! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 02:32, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Yes, but just as you say you did enough to keep the article from deletion--while I was rushing too fast to do more than guess. I did not mean to imply you had any responsibility to do more--I worded it this way to avoid saying that everything was finished perfectly. This is a n excellent response to my deprodding, and I thank you for it. DGG ( talk ) 02:40, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

IP blocked

I've done it. You can tell school's started! Dougweller (talk) 14:51, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for that. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 14:54, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Yes in regards to that, sorry for barging in like that and I hope you don't think me rude, I just didn't want Occono to go to ANI and get redirected again to AIV. Jeffrey Mall (talkcontribs) - 14:58, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Taskforce spammer

I thought I was being gentle by using a softblock and the softerblock template message, rather than a spamusername block (which would have been technically justified IMO) on this COI s.p.a.! Almost all spammers for non-profits feel that they are not really promoting, just "educating the public". Part of NPOV is that we have to be as firm and impartial with somebody pushing a noble cause or entity (i.e., one we agree with) as we are with a normal commercial spammer or crank. --Orange Mike | Talk 14:59, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks from Stronach

for sorting out the photo. It looks great. Much appreciated. Stronach (talk) 13:10, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

No worries! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 13:12, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Thank you

For helping me with the Deford-Cass City Christian Academy page. I'm not sure if you can also help me with this issue, but it appears that somebody has moved the Cass City Public School District page and instead created Cass City Public Schools. I tried to edit the first one I mentioned, but it appears that the person tried to revert my edits. I believe that much of the information on these sites is very much false. Thanks in advance! Mrhercli89 (talk) 00:28, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

I can have a quick look, but I don't know anything about the Michigan area - I'm in England! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 00:29, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
I'll have to ask for an administrator to look at the School District article. I can't move it as there is the redirect at the old name. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 00:36, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
Actually, before I did that I did some searching. There are more references on Google News/Books/Scholar/Web (there were 69 News/35 Books/6 Scholar/4200 Web) to "Cass City Public Schools" than there were to "Cass City Public School District" (there were 4 News/2 Books/0 Scholar/17 Web), so I'm taking the "Public Schools" are the most correct title. I've corrected the redirect for "Cass City Public School District" to go to "Cass City Public Schools". -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 00:54, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

I can't answer that, as I didn't put it up for deletion, so didn't see the content. Your best bet is to ask the editor who tagged it for deletion, ttonyb1 (leave a message at their talk page). -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 01:50, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

I'm very sorry, but I just tried to make a new entry for Ratifiers for Democracy, but messed up the name of the entry, which reads "ratifiers for democracy". Yikes. I don't know how to fix, or even if my entry is appropriate. Musicaloyster (talk) 04:03, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Thank you, Phantomsteve, for your help with Ratifiers for Democracy, and on what constitutes an notable organization. I would argue that it does, as it is one of the few models of modern reform studied in universities around the world, having become part of the curriculum. Ratifiers for Democracy has made a powerful impact on reform discussion in many countries, including Singapore, where ARDA has reprinted a Ratifiers for Democracy editorial. See http://www.asiademocracy.org/content_view.php?section_id=1&content_id=270

Ratifiers for Democracy is considered by many political parties think tanks such as the Salzburg Global Seminar and in open discussions on blogs such as GetUp (see http://www.getup.org.au/blogs/view.php?id=754).

Musicaloyster (talk) 09:15, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi Musicaloyster. May I suggest that you mention these facts on the article's talk page? I am not very knowledgeable in this area, and all I know is that (1) the article was not suitable for a Speedy Deletion (2) I couldn't find reliable references to Ratifiers for Democracy. It would best be left for those who know about this field, and if you can find references to show that it is notable, then that's fantastic.
I would add one other comment - it is a model for reform - if I understand correctly, this model has not been implemented anywhere, is that right? While it may be on curricula around the world as a theory, that does not necessarily make it notable. Could you find links to universities' websites which show that it is used as part of their curriculum? If so, this might help show its notability. Again, this is not my area of expertise, so don't quote me on that! If there's anything else I can help you with, just drop a note on this page! Regards, -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 09:25, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your patient help, Phantomsteve. I tried to do as you suggested, posting examples on the Ratifiers Talk site. I really appreciate the thoughtfulness you put into this, and your help with the title. I'm sorry that I still can't find how you title a new topic. Could you please point me to the right place? Musicaloyster (talk) 04:05, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Regards the Francesco Masini Photo...

Yes, infact that photo is taken from the book "Santa Marija Hamsin Sena fil-Katidral" of the Reverend Bezzina (There is the complete bibliography on the article). If you have no problem doing so, please make all the changes necessary, as I am still getting accustomed to the service. I will repeat all changes on the Maltese Articles. And- yes, he is my grand grand father, and I am trying to get a photo from my family, so the current photo is just a temporary one.

Thanks very much for your help, and for the comments! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmasini (talkcontribs) 14:33, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

I have just found a document with his signature! It comes from Fr. Bezzina's book as well, but I will contact him and try to get a copy of the original document. But for now, can I add only the part of his signature? Regards your question about his maltese name, I am quiete sure that he was called Francesco also in Maltese, but if I get to know anything different, I will tell you immediately. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmasini (talkcontribs) 14:41, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

I have just found a better photo taken from the Leone Website - http://leone.ictnode.com/pages/detail.asp?m=173. I have not uploaded it as 'entirely my own work' and I categorized it as 'taken from Google or a random website'. If there are other details needed, please make them, and once again, thanks very much for your help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmasini (talkcontribs) 15:02, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your comments here! I am busy this weekend (my partner and kids need some attention from me!) but will look at this on Monday. A couple of comments though:
  1. As the photograph comes from a book which is in copyright, it would be unable to be used here without specific permission from the author - if you are in touch with him, I will explain how you can get permission to use it - but I'll do that next week when I have time. However, if you can find a family photograph, then there are no copyright issues to consider it, as you have the right to assign it the correct permissions - again, we can talk about that if you can find one.
  2. The Leone Philharmonic Society could perhaps be used, but I'll have to look at their site more closely, and perhaps contact them for permission. Again, I'll look into it next week
  3. With regard to his signature, again we really need Rev Bezzina's permission to use that, I think.
Basically, I will look into this in more detail next week when I have time to do so. Have a good weekend! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 16:16, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

BEA

Thanks for message, it was probably my mistake that I removed your addition of the single. You probably need to judge if the single was notable to the history of the airline as I suspect it was only one of many publicity items produced over the years. If you feel it was then I will not remove it again, but the best way is to make some sort of comment on the talk page to make sure nobody objects. If you have any other questions then please ask on my talk page. Thanks. MilborneOne (talk) 12:46, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Task Force page

Hello Phantomsteve

Thank you for your help and advice regarding the Task Force page I created last week. I have one technical question. Some of the internal links I would like to use in the article lead to empty spaces - pages that have not yet been written. I'd like to write these pages too, and think they are worthwhile in their own right (not only because of the Holocaust Task Force). Is there any problem with me doing that?

Thanks, --Kameyer (talk) 07:34, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

There would certainly be no problem with creating new pages. However, just bear in mind that they need to be notable in their own right (notable according to the criteria at WP:NOTABLE). You can certainly created 'stub' articles. If other editors think they are not suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, then they may put them up for deletion - if this happens, don't be discouraged - it happens to most editors! If you would like me to look at any stub articles, let me know what they are and I'll look at them. (To link to them, use square brackets like this: [[article name]] - then clicking on the link will go to the article. For example [[Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance, and Research]] gives Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance, and Research.
Another couple of suggestions: near the top of the page, if you place the tag {{under construction}} then a notice will be shown explaining that the article is being worked on - it won't necessarily prevent other editors nominating it for deletion, but it may stop any 'speedy deletion' nomninations - as long as the article is being worked on! Also, near the bottom of the page, make sure that you use the tag {{stub}}, which will show that the article is a stub-article rather than a completed one.
Again, let me know if there's anything I can do. Regards, -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 07:58, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for very useful advice! One other question - I have made a number of edits (I hope improvements)to the article, adding references and a criticism section. Would it be possible for you to take a look and, if you agree, remove the tags regarding lack of references, inappropriate tone etc. I hope I have managed to address these issues now. --Kameyer (talk) 10:40, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

I have removed some of the tags, but kept the following ones: "Wikify" (still needs more wiki links); "COI" as you are still the main contributor; "Inappropriate tone", as I still feel that this needs improving. I have also made the table sortable, so that people can sort (for example) by chairpersonship year. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions (I am kind of distracted by the kids at the moment, so I can't really look at it properly!) -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 10:54, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Ok - thank you for taking a look although you're so busy! I have made a few comments on the article's talk page regarding the COI issue, it would be useful if you or someone else could respond (I'll add a help tab. I understand that this is an issue you have to be weary of, but is there anything I can do to resolve the problem? In relation to wiki links, I have now wikified the article as much as I can, with some links still going to empty pages - I will do more research on these and see if they are worth writing. The only issue that really still confuses me is tone - I'm not sure how the article could be more neutral, and as far as I can see it complies to the guidelines (no jargon, only 3rd person etc). Could you perhaps indicate a specific example to help me on this? Thank you and sorry to pester!!--Kameyer (talk) 15:09, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

I'll look at the article again tomorrow when I have more time (and no kids around!) and remove the other tags as required! I only did a cursory look, and the tags I removed were obviously able to be removed - I'll need to read the article more carefully to ensure that the other tags can be removed. I'd rather keep them there for an extra day when they might not need be there, than remove them and then have to re-add them! When I've had a look, you might want to leave a message at Wikipedia:Requests for feedback (RFF) - there you can get comments and constructive criticism to help improve the article. You can, of course, post a message there straight away - but if you don't before hand, I will look at it tomorrow. Either way, it might be an idea to look at RFF - it'll show you what people say there! I'll leave you a message tomorrow - if you would rather go straight to RFF, just let me know - I won't be offended! Regards, -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:31, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the hint - I posted a message on RFF and will see what comes from that. If you have time please do look at the article again, I'd appreciate your input since you've followed from the beginning. Thanks again for your help, very much appreciated. --Kameyer (talk) 19:58, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

I was reviewing websites and wanted to see if http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Van_Lines was inline with wikipedia standards. I was trying to find additional references for the company, but all they have listed in their references and external sites are their facebook and social network sites. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.215.154.165 (talk) 19:41, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

If you feel that it has a problem, as a first point of call you should leave a message on United Van Lines's talk page which can be found at Talk:United Van Line. I do not currently have time to look at it properly, but if I get a chance I will look at it. It claims they are the largest movers in the US - which is backed up by references I can find, although I would have to check that some of them are at reliable sites, not just using a press release. I should be able to find time within the next few days to check it out. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 19:59, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Removal of PROD from Corvette Challenge Registry

Hello Phantomsteve, this is an automated message from SDPatrolBot to inform you the PROD template you added to Corvette Challenge Registry has been removed. It was removed by Vettebrett with the following edit summary '(no edit summary)'. Please consider discussing your concerns with Vettebrett before pursuing deletion further yourself. If you still think the article should be deleted after communicating with the 'dePRODer,' you may want to send the article to AfD for community discussion. Thank you, SDPatrolBot (talk) 21:05, 10 September 2009 (UTC) (Learn how to opt out of these messages)

Corvette Challenge Registry??

What is the criteria for a Page On Wiki, there are VIN numbers listed with these cars. I have created this page to help people that search for general information to aid them in finding information that has never been put out for the public to view in one place. What need to be done tho keep this page alive??

Per your accepted request, I have added rollback rights to your account. Ensure you only use rollback correctly, ie its intended usage of reverting vandalism only. For information on rollback see: Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback in the future, just let me or any admin know. Cheers. I don't want to drag this out in Help

The reason I made mention of needing some indication of humorous pages is that I've only seen one example — when searching for information on Bibliographies, guessing that WP:BIBLIO might be relevant, clicking on it and seeing this page, without the identifier that it is a Bibliomaniac15 creation. I'm happy to hear there is a rule, but it wasn't followed in that instance. Perhaps I'm a little irked because I thought I was reporting vandalism - I was admonished for not realizing it was an attempt at humor, and now that it has been reverted, it clearly was vandalism. Oh well, I'll live.--SPhilbrickT 18:56, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi Sphilbrick. With that specific example, I can see why you might be concerned. Although it is a user page, it shouldn't have been linked to by WP:BIBLIO, which now rightly points at the correct page. Also, the user page shouldn't have any "This is policy" message (even with the humour notice above it as it has now). So I apologise if I seemed flippant or rude - that was not the intention. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 20:27, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
No, no you were fine. I just wanted to explain where I was coming from. I now see that someone did break the rules - redirecting an official page to a user page with no indication it was a joke, but someone (not you) took it less seriously than I thought it deserved. Keep up the good work; your dedication tot he help desk is impressive.SPhilbrickT 13:02, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

I looked again. Still AGFing, it doesn't quite look obvious to me. Have you tried actually asking what they're trying to accomplish? Not all IP editors are wrong

Patrick Swayze died on the 14th, where he is listed. Since I am notr going to enter an edit war perhaps you will go back and undo your revision. -- Drappel (talk) 15:23, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

You are quite right - I will correct that now! Incidently, I know that most IP editors actually contribute constructive edits - that was my fault, I should have double checked - I got the impression that he died in the early hours this morning, but of course that was when it was reported! Thanks for contacting me. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:38, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
All references on Wikipedia that I can find say the 14th, so it's sorted! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:40, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
You are welcome, I just made a similar mistake at The Wellington Academy, the creator of the page has blanked it, which I believe is a valid blanking as an indication of a removal request. -- Drappel (talk) 15:41, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
I thought the same with that page! I have left a message on his talk page, and restored the article. As a rule, page blanking is only used to indicate a desire to delete a user page. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:55, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

[STOP REVERTING MY EVONY UPDATE]

Either look at it and edit it to a scale you believe appropiate or leave it be its 100% factual and they have hid enough evidence of their own with out your help THANKS

71.71.31.173 (talk) 18:26, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

There is no evidence of any conspiracy. A Google search for site:umge.com "evony" yielded one hit: for someone's order for an Evony Server 2.
To suggest that they have in effect bought off archive.org, google (and presumable ask.com, bing.com, etc etc) is simply ridiculous. If you continue to add these allegations without any proof, then I (and other editors) will remove them. If you have proof from reliable sources, then cite them. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 18:32, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
I now see that the source of the conspiracy is Bruce Everiss on his own blog... and how is that a reliable source? Assuming that you are not Bruce, have you even read the Statement of Claim - which I notice you conveniently neglect to link to along with with Bruce's site - hardly a Neutral Point of View. If (assuming the case is settled in Bruce's favour) the case is over, then you could add details of it - as it would be in the newspapers anyway. Other than Bruce's own word on it, have you got any evidence that the claims made in either Don't Play Evony, More about Evony, Is Evony Malware? or elsewhere on the Eleclectic blogs on The Chaos Engine? I would also think that as it is an ongoing legal case, Wikipedia are limited in what we can allow about it, until the case is settled one way or another. If you have proof of yourBruce's claims, from reliable sources, post them. If they are not proof, or reliable, then they will be removed. +
As far as I am concerned, that is the end of the matter. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs)

Steve, please stop reverting IP edits on this page. I forgot to log in - they were legit. Furthermore, not all IP edits are wrong. You deleted about three hours work I'm struggling to get back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexanderryland (talkcontribs) 18:37, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

First of all, let me point out that I know that not all IP edits are wrong - I would guess that for every IP edit that I have reverted, I am left about 10 alone.
As for this particular edit - the two sources (a facebook group and a blogspot.com blog) are not reliable sources, which is the reason why I reverted the edits. If they had been done when you were logged on, I would still have reverted it. If Jimbo Wales had done it, I would have reverted it. Find a reliable source for this information, and it can be added. I will keep in the circulation figures (although some reliably-sourced information on that would be preferred, I know that will be harder to find) -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 18:58, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Steve - you didn't just revert the sources though. You reverted entire sections. You could easily have removed the individual source instead. From Saturday more sources will be available because the website in question will officially launch.

I do beg to differ though - Blogs can be a great and reliable source, especially if, like the source I used, it is a direct copy of a press release. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexanderryland (talkcontribs) 19:27, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

As per WP:RELIABLE_SOURCES, blogs are not counted as reliable because anyone can add to them. Althought the guidelines refer mainly to using them as references to living people, the same basically goes for organisations - a blog is basically the equivalent to a newspaper's opinion columns - they show what people think, but the content is not necessarily verifiable (the guidelines refer to newspaper op-eds, which would not be reliable sources) - the same principle goes for a facebook group - anyone who is a member of the group can add comments, which may or may not be true. Anyone can create a group (I could have created the group, and I have nothing to do with Vox Pop!).
I was wrong to do the original revert, as it removed useful material - however, I have corrected it with my manual edit, which is what I should really have done to begin with.
Incidently, the fact that the website isn't actually launched yet is an argument against the notability of Vox Pop. However, I am not going to go into that (I'll leave it for others to decide on the notability of it!). When the Vox Pop website launches on Saturday, make a note of any mentions in local and national newspapers (if you get coverage in the Times, Guardian, on the Associated Press wires - these will help show the notability of Vox Pop.
Good luck with the launch - incidently, as the editor of Vox Pop, you have a big conflict of interest, so I would suggest that you read those guidelines! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 20:02, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
And note also that press releases are notoriously among the least reliable sources on the planet. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:07, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

There's been coverage in the Scotsman and on the BBC, both of which are noted as sources on the page. The youtube video was an attempt to upload the audio file of coverage on BBC Radio - I couldn't get it to upload directly to wikipedia. If there is a way of doing this (I only have it in wma format), I'd appreciate a hand. It was on a news bulletin, so it's not permanently in iPlayer or anything like that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexanderryland (talkcontribs) 12:07, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

You can't actually upload a YouTube video - for the simple reason (in this case) that the video footage is copyrighted to the BBC. A link to the YouTube video wouldn't generally be acceptable on a Wikipedia article - videos on YouTube can be uploaded by anyone, and could be edited before uploading (I know in this case it wasn't, but in theory it coulod have been). Also, because they are in violation of the BBC's copyright, the BBC can ask YouTube to remove it. I appreciate that the video in question is the same news item as referenced in the above paragraph, but that mention is sufficient for the article. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 13:14, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

Articles for Deletion

When does PODS (company) get the articles for deletion tag removed from the page? This is also the question for similar pages as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.215.154.165 (talk) 20:23, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

As a general rule, AfDs are reviewed by an administrator approximately 7 days after they were opened - however, as admins are volunteers with real lives too, it may be just a bit longer than this! When the admin looks at it, if there is a consensus they will close the AfD implementing the consensus (keep, delete, merge, redirect, etc) having looked at the arguments. If the admin feels that there is no consensus, they can either relist it for another week, or close it as no consensus, which means the article is kept - but without a consensus, it is open to being AfD'd again. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 20:36, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Re: Today's warning

Hi, I am writing from Thurman White Middle School in Nevada, where I am visiting today. I saw the warning you issued to this IP (and earlier ones). The vandalism is likely being done by tween-age students, who are never going to read or heed the warnings. Just so you know. Maybe a schoolblock is in order? (I have a Wikipedia account, but I don't care to log in here.) 169.241.28.91 (talk) 17:31, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

The IP you used does not have a warning from me. If it is one of the ones used by the school, admins will decide if a schoolblock is in order - I am not an admin. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 17:34, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
"I see", said the blind man. - For some reason, 169.241.28.91 got the warning you left for 169.241.28.94, or the message I sent you went out from a slightly different IP. (They could be neighboring machines or servers.) All the same... and either of us can (at least in theory) refer the address to an admin. I went through similar with an IP at another school I visited last year. (I'm home now, writing this.) Zephyrad (talk) 22:31, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
Neighbouring machines in a school will generally have slightly different IPs, as a school will usually have a block of IPs. As you quite rightly point out, anyone can refer the IP to admins - if you want to, feel free to do so. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 07:57, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

Hello. I work in the Columbus Symphony Orchestra's administrative offices in the Marketing Department. We are currently changing the name of the symphony to "Columbus Symphony" and dropping the "Orchestra." Could you possibly change the title of the page to reflect this new change?

We will be posting an updated history, information section, etc., once it has been looked over within the department.

Thank you.

edawnpost —Preceding unsigned comment added by Edawnpost (talkcontribs) 15:06, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for contacting me. However, at the moment although your website shows "Columbus Symphony" in your logo, all other references are to the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (or CSO) - including the titles of your pages (for example, the title on your home page says "Columbus Symphony Orchestra - Columbus, Ohio". May I suggest that you get your webmaster to change all the titles to "Columbus Symphony", and perhaps put a note on the home page explaining that the name is going to be changed to "Columbus Symphony"? As you will appreciate, Wikipedia needs verification that the name change is happening - and a note on the website would show this perfectly. Otherwise, another editor will look at the website and just revert my changes as they will say "the website doesn't say that"!
If you let me know when this is done, I will happily amend the article title to reflect the change, and make relevant changes within the article to indicate the new name.
I assume that by We will be posting an updated history, information section, etc., once it has been looked over within the department. that you mean on the website, rather than on the article? The reason I say that is that as you are directly involved with the CSO, you have a conflict of interest, and it is suggested that you do not alter articles about an organisation you are involved with yourself. However, if the information is on the website, as a neutral editor, I can update the article!
I am busy with family stuff for the weekend, so may not get much chance to get onto Wikipedia until Monday, but I will be here then! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 16:27, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
I notice that there is still no notice of a proposed name for the CSO on the website. If I am missing it, could you provide me with the link?
As you can appreciate it, we must verify all information in Wikipedia, and at the moment I can't find verification of this - I am not saying it is not happening, but we need some kind of evidence! The best would be on the official website, but mentions in national/international newspapers or journals would be just as good - just give me a web link to any suitable sources!
I hope to hear from you soon. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 16:04, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Hello. Thank you for your reply. We are in the process of converting from the "Columbus Symphony Orchestra" to the "Columbus Symphony." Currently, the Columbus Symphony is at the start of its classical season, and the name change is a gradual process, as it is not currently a top priority. Current marketing and print materials for the 2009-2010 concert season DO reflect this change, however, even though it is not evidenced on the website, except by the logo. As to your concern regarding a conflict of interest with the Columbus Symphony, I am not a paid employee of the symphony, but rather an unpaid intern, with a background in music performance, not editing, or arts administration. Thus, I do not feel that a conflict of interest is present. I will be in touch once we are able to get the ball rolling on the name change. Once it is complete on the official Columbus Symphony website, I will contact you again and hopefully get the ball rolling on the name change process.

Thank you.

Thanks for your reply. If you could find a reference to a newspaper article or similar (see reliable sources for the kind we would look for, but generally something of the stature of the Washington Post, NY Times, etc) that refers to the name change, I'd be quite happy to change it. Until we have some verification (I still think that even as an intern you should be able to get someone to make a note of it on the official website), we can't change the article's title - once reliable verification is found, then no worries!
On the subject of your possible COI - as long as any information that you add to the article is written from a neutral point of view and is well-sourced from reliable sources, then there would be no problem. It can be hard to be neutral when you are involved with the organisation, which is why the general advice is not to - it is not an actually rule that you can't, just general advise! If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me.
Incidently, when you sign a contribution to a talk page, if you type ~~~~ at the end, it will add your user name *and* the time/date. I have signed the above contribution (which adds the date/time)! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 14:09, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Have you got any reliable sources showing that information? Find reliable sources (e.g. mentions in newspapers) then you can add the information. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 08:43, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Taco (musician)

Hi Phantomsteve, what kind of source will be needed to prevent my changes being deleted? I really don't know what to do!

Best regards --Roland Colerus 10:35, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi Roland.
As you will know, I withdrew my nomination for the article to be deleted.
To ensure that any information you add will be kept, you need to make sure that they are sourced from reliable sources.

If you find a book, magazine, newspaper article, etc that you want to use as a reference, just type one of the following after the information in the article which the reference is about:

  • Newspaper/Magazine article:
<ref>''Title of article'',author of article, (Title of newspaper/magazine, date of article, page(s), column(s))</ref>
  • Book:
<ref>''Title of book'', author of book, (publisher, date of publication, page(s))</ref>
  • Website:
<ref>[http://web-page-address ''Title of webpage''], author of page, date of page's creation, website name</ref>

For example:

  • John Smith was appointed by the UN as an ambassador to Mars in June 1986.<ref>''An article in a well-known newspaper'', John E. Beegood, (The New York Times, 1 August 1987, page 6 col 2)</ref>
  • John Smith is regarded as a world expert on creating references.<ref>''How do I create references?'', Met-al Icca, (Heinemann Publishing, 1964, pp. 16-17)</ref>
  • While a known as a world-respected physicist, Smith is also a well-known skier who has participated in the Olympic Games representing Patagonia.<ref>[http://www.a-reputable-website.org/a_useful_page.html ''How to Create Useful References''], PhantomSteve, 12 March 1999, a-reputable-website.org</ref>

Then at the bottom of the page, make sure you have the following two lines:

==References==
<references/> -or- {{reflist}}

This would generate (for the above examples):

  • John Smith was apointed by the UN as an ambassador to Mars in June 1986.[1]
  • John Smith is regarded as a world expert on creating references.[2]
  • While a known as a world-respected physicist, Smith is also a well-known skier who has participated in the Olympic Games representing Patagonaia.[3]

References

  1. ^ An article in a well-known newspaper, John E. Beegood, (The New York Times, 1 August 1987, page 6, col 2)
  2. ^ How do I create references?, Met-al Icca, (Heinemann Publishing, 1964, pp. 16-17)
  3. ^ How to Create Useful References, PhantomSteve, 12 March 1999, a-reputable-website.org

With basic references like this in place, more experienced editors can tidy them up! The hard bit can be finding references!

Please make sure you read the guideline Reliable Sources which details the kind of sources Wikipedia prefers to use.

If you have any questions, just ask me! Regards, -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 14:26, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Panic

Am I correct you removed the section "Coping statements" from Panic Attack?

Sometimes our edits may affect others. --FrankTownend (talk) 11:33, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi.
You are not correct! I didn't remove the section you mention from that article. The only edit I have ever made (at 18:30, 18 September 2009) reverted the sentence "Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder which primarily consists of the fear of experiencing a difficult or embarrassing explosive diarahea situation" to "Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder which primarily consists of the fear of experiencing a difficult or embarrassing situation"
The version you are referring to was at the latest this one where that section was removed at 22:32, 21 July 2009 with the edit summary "Other treatments: removing this entire section. these are not different; they're all standard cognitive-behavioral techniques; CBT is already covered.)"
You are right that edits may affect others, but in this case the editor considered the coverage in the article Cognitive behavioral therapy covered the same ground. Please bear in mind that Wikipedia's aims do not include giving medical advice - that is the job of a trained GP or qualified counsellor. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 20:41, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for your response Steve.
I had some difficulty determining the editor so I wanted my comment to be considered "friendly". Thank you for taking it that way. You are also totally correct the goal of Wikipedia is not in giving medical advice. Strange thing about Panic Attacks in that because they are often 'self generated', they can sometime be stopped through repeating a simple list of calming statements. Thanks for responding, all the best! --FrankTownend (talk) 12:37, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Huggle: Gold

Hi. This edit to Gold is certainly not vandalism, so it shouldn't have been reverted with Huggle, meaning without a descriptive edit summary. I have reverted to the IP's version as the clarification is useful if you read the paragraph (it is not obvious to lay persons that it is the only gold isotope, not the only isotope at all, that decays in that manner). If you have another reason to remove the insertion of the word gold in that sentence, you certainly may remove it, but please explain why. Thank you. The Seeker 4 Talk 15:43, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

You were quite right to revert that - sorry, I misread the sentence and thought the word "gold" was superflous - but in fact it is necessary! Incidently, I didn't issue a warning - but you are correct, I shouldn't have reverted using Huggle, as this was not vandalism (I would normally have just done a manual edit, but didn't this time). A question

As you can see I'm editing the FC Zwolle page. I would like to add the competition results. I would like to use the Vertical Lines like on the Dutch Page [2] (See the link). My question is, what is the template used on the English wikipedia to create these vertical lines? -- RamonP 18:19, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi RamonP.
Firstly, you need to alter your signature so that the bold ends at the end of your user name! Just change it to:
-- '''[[User:RamonP|RamonP]]'''
Although it would be nice to have a link in your sig that goes straight to your talk page!
Now onto graphs - I'm not sure that there is an equivalent to the Dutch BalkVerticaal2 - I couldn't find anything. All the graphs I've seen on the English Wikipedia are in fact images. You might want to look at Commons:Convert tables and charts to wiki code which talks about converting from HTML/PDF/CSV etc to wiki code. Or alternatively look at Wikipedia:How_to_create_graphs_for_Wikipedia_articles. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 18:27, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

The user has received 3 warnings, but the last one was about 5 hours ago, so a request at WP:AIV would be declined. I'd just leave it for now - if they come back and do more within the next few hours, they would be listed for Admin intervention anyway. The important thing is that they vandalism was reverted. Human Geography

Why was my edit removed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.252.67.2 (talkcontribs) 16:36, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Because it was vandalism. Incidently, the article was in fact Population geography (see dif) -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 16:39, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

User:Heliosphere

I had to issue a level 2 warning for him here as well. Thanks --Sikh-History 17:54, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Hello, I've redirected this article to the main article about the city itself, and left a notice on the creator's talk page. As this circumvents the need for deletion, I find it preferable; however, the creator of the article has undone the redirect several times. If you see that the redirect has been undone again, I'd ask that you replace it. Thanks. GlassCobra 20:43, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

I have also left a message on the creator's talk page, but they have ignored it. I don't want to get into a 3RR situation - I'm tempted to go straight to an AfD - and then someone (hint hint) can suggest the redirect there! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 20:45, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Need your assistance

Hello, the PODS (company) page was marked by an anonymous IP as an advert recently. It's the same people who was causing issues previously. I wanted to see if you can jump in on the discussion. It's become rather annoying. Additionally, the user PODs Watch continues to harass myself and has vandalized the PODS page.

Hi Twalters82. As it's a one-off (at the moment), there's not much that can be done. If it happens a lot, then you can apply to have the page semi-protected, but at the moment it wouldn't be. With regard to User:PODs Watch, I can see that they have once altered the PODS (company) article, and three edits to your page - all to explain why they have proposed files for deletion (2 times) or why they removed a section from the article on the other occasion. I see no harrassment there (that user has a total of 11 edits - the 3 to your page, the 1 to the PODS (company) page, 4 file-deletion-related edits, 2 to their own pages and one to the Richards Group article). Only one of these could be regarded as vandalism - the PODS (Company) redirection - all the others appear to be valid edits. You might not like the proposals for deletion of the two images, but the editor is within their rights to propose them for deletion, even though I don't think they will get deleted.
I would not classify PODs Watch's behaviour as "harassment" - they have only vandalised the PODS page once, and has not had any direct interaction with you other than to let you know that they were proposing files for deletion.
Incidently, when you leave a message on a talk page, sign your post by typing four tildes (~~~~ at the end, as this will automatically add your user name and date/time, like this: -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 23:29, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Port Harcourt article vandalized

Hi there. Would you pls take a look at this article? There's a user who first edited via IP, and then even though you reverted his edit, the IP edits continued vandalising the page. Few hours later a new user appeared, & continued vandalising the page adding unsourced material. This seems to be a case of a member of a nigerian minority group laying claim on a city which fell into the property of the Federal Nigerian troops during the Biafra-Nigeria war. Amsaim (talk) 00:28, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I've tidied it up, but as I know nothing about Port Harcourt, I wouldn't necessarily know what to remove! It might be an idea to leave a message at both the article's talk page and at WikiProject Nigeria's talk page, as there will be people with more knowledge about this than myself! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 07:18, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
thanks very much for cleaning up the article. the way the article has been vandalized, calls for the assistance of an admin, in order to protect the page. Amsaim (talk) 12:38, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi from 80.176.142.202

You were just very quick to note my vandalism, well done! However you may want to look closer at the pages for Lundwood and Penistone, they contain very subtle lies! Find them if thou be able nobleman! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.176.142.202 (talkcontribs) 12:34, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

I apologize for my most recent edits.

That's me

I am user:AS1S1SA1AA. I just kind of forgot my password (lol). For the template, I was trying to edit a few templates to use Infobox Settlement, as I already did for Italy, France, Germany and a few more. But somehow, not everyone seems to appreciate my efforts…--93.45.59.26 (talk) 16:01, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

I have no problems, as I could see it was not vandalism, and logic dictated that you were AS1S1SA1AA! Incidently, have you read "What if I forget the password?" - as long as you signed up with an e-mail address, you can get a temporary password sent to the registered email address. If you didn't, then may I suggest you create a new account - then let me know your new account name and I'll move the template to your new user space! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 16:04, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
Unfortunately it's the second case – thank you for your help, but it appears that my template-editing days are nearing an end.--93.45.59.26 (talk) 16:09, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Simple English Wikipedia

Thanks for the link - it inspired me to help out there a bit. (Or is it "help a bit out there", or "help out a bit there"? Ahh, English is too complicated!) simple:User:SebastianHelm 20:47, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

I'm glad that I've inspired someone today! (Although I'm sure my two little ones would say I did, if they understood the concept!). Keep up the good work! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 20:52, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

Your Guidance Requested

Hi Phantomsteve, it's newbie Wikipedia user tanyavansoest here again. I've been off-site taking care of my day job but recently got back on here to try my hand at editing and contributing my first article. You'd offered previously to have a look at my draft which is up on my user page. I'd love to get your opinion on how you think it reads. Many thanks in advance. Tanyavansoest (talk) 03:19, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tanyavansoest - I'll have a look at User:Tanyavansoest/Singapore_International_Energy_Week later today when I get a chance! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 07:26, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
Hello again. It's late, and I'm going to look at it tomorrow, when I'm more awake. Incidently, I found relatively few independent, reliable sites mentioning it - but I have found a few other refs which you might use! More tomorrow (or Wednesday, depending on when I have time to give it justice!) -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 23:20, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
Hi Steve, you rock! Thanks so much for your support. Navigating my way through the ins and outs of Wikipedia seems a whole lot nicer when there are senior editors out there willing to lend a hand. Hope you had a good rest and I will look forward to your feedback and ideas soon. Tanyavansoest (talk) 03:40, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Removal of PROD from Picture Perfect (album)

Hello Phantomsteve, this is an automated message from SDPatrolBot to inform you the PROD template you added to Picture Perfect (album) has been removed. It was removed by 82.0.120.210 with the following edit summary '(no edit summary)'. Please consider discussing your concerns with 82.0.120.210 before pursuing deletion further yourself. If you still think the article should be deleted after communicating with the 'dePRODer,' you may want to send the article to AfD for community discussion. Thank you, SDPatrolBot (talk) 20:32, 28 September 2009 (UTC) (Learn how to opt out of these messages) 20:32, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi Phantomsteve. Just wanted to let you know that I removed the speedy tag, as there appeared to be a valid stub in the page history. [3] Regards, Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 03:53, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Oh, and thanks for your reversions to my user page. It's appreciated! Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:14, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for reverting the Williams article - I didn't look back far enough! As for your user page, no worries - I'm sure you'd do the same if you notice my user page being vandalised! Regards, -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 07:05, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Thank you

Hello and thank you for reverting vandalism on my talk page. I should thank people who do that more often. LovesMacs (talk) 14:30, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

You are very welcome! I'm sure you'll do the same for me if the opportunity arises! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 14:39, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism

Stop beating to me to reverting! :) --ScythreTalkContribs 15:24, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

lol... it's amazing how the same names keep showing up as reverting, eh? Keep up the good work, Scythre! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:26, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm off to get a coffee and cigarette, so now's your opportunity to do some reverting -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:28, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Re: Warnings

And I'm really sorry about all the warns using Huggle.. :( --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 15:46, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

No worries - as I said before, it happens if two editors go to revert an article in Huggle near enough at the same time! You noticed a mistake was made, it was remedied - end of story! Regards, -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:48, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Your vandalism counter accuracy

Hi,

I see that you reverted my vandalism, but now your counters are each off by one. I just wanted to make sure that you don't have an inaccurate count of vandalism. Thanks! kmccoy (talk) 01:44, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

On my User Page, I hadn't missed 1 count of vandalism, but 2! On this page, I hadn't missed 1 count, but 6. I have now corrected them - but although I understand that you were trying to be helpful, I think it is up to me to decide when to update my counter, and by how much. I don't mind an editor who has reverted vandalism to my page themselves updating it (although that hasn't happened before), but I don't think a non-involved editor (even a sysop) should change my counter. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 08:34, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
Don't get your panties in a twist. I was really just playing a little game with you, because by changing the counter on your userpage I was vandalizing it, which means that it should have been reverted. But by reverting it, you were saying that the number I changed it to was wrong, but since I had vandalized, it was actually right. But if you left my edit alone, then it wasn't vandalism, and so then the vandalism counter userbox was wrong! It's a paradox! I'm surprised the entire universe didn't collapse right there. This could have been more dangerous than the LHC. kmccoy (talk) 19:54, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
Ah, but the thing is - I didn't count it as vandalism per se, just a little joke! So as it didn't count as vandalism, so I reverted it... so the universe was safe (until the LHC goes online properly) -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 19:59, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
