Mariah Singles

Are you planning on doing the singles too? I think there's a lot of info that can go into "Can't Take That Away", amongst others. I may take on the job, but I'm wandering if you're planning to anyway because you're better at major overhauls. Jayy008 (talk) 17:50, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Sounds like a really good plan for the albums, how comes self-titled lost it's GA? :S. Yes, a two-man team sounds good. I will do "Can't Take That Away" due to the controversy of her message about her label not promoting it, her worst performing single at the time etc. Then Honey for obvious reasons. Then I'll go in order of #1's. Jayy008 (talk) 23:37, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
I'll just look online for now. PS. Archiving now! Jayy008 (talk) 11:59, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
Well, for a start, the UK certification links to a norwegian certifier. I'm not sure yet, two weeks I think, I have some time off coming up, so that will be a good place to start. Jayy008 (talk) 20:59, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm an idiot. It was on the "All I Want For Christmas Is You" page, LOL. Jayy008 (talk) 21:17, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
LOL, I'll get involved. And, I'm not sure, two weeks today probably. Jayy008 (talk) 19:36, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
I will definitely. I'm not very good at overhauling, but I'll give it a go as soon as I have time. Jayy008 (talk) 20:06, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
How long has "Oh Santa!" been at radio? It's been on iTunes for a whole day and isn't even in the top 200 :/ Jayy008 (talk) 20:38, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the info! Let me know how much you hear it on the radio :). I hope Radio 1 here in the UK playlists it, she hasn't had a song playlist on their since "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time," so I'm hoping high! Jayy008 (talk) 22:07, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Me too, it was great seeing her perform live!! Jayy008 (talk) 22:54, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
I was literally right in front of her, second row :D. What does IMO mean? & yeah, when she entered the room, everyone's spirits lifted, it was weird being in a room with such a positive atmosphere, I can't describe what I mean. Jayy008 (talk) 00:10, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
Haha, that's a #1 fan right there :D. Yeah, he definitely is, lol. He's my favourite comedian, he's just hilarious. Mimi and him were great together, they cut out loads for broadcast though, their personal interview was like 30 minutes. You're lucky you can watch, Channel 4 have blocked content for the UK. :( Jayy008 (talk) 01:43, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
You will! I don't know about U.S., but in the UK, we can get tickets for TV shows and they're all free. And erm! erm! That's tough, lol! I'll think about it while you write your favourite seven :) Jayy008 (talk) 15:29, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
Some good choices :), Mine are (this could change, this is me thinking off the top of my head): #1 "Can't Take That Away" #2 "Vanishing" #3 "Always Be My Baby" #4 "Through The Rain" #5 "My All" #6 "Honey" #7 "Heartbreaker" and all of Glitter, that was hard! lol, there's sooo many!! Jayy008 (talk) 16:05, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
See, it's difficult to think of all of them lol. I don't like "Loverboy" but I think "Reflections" is one of her greatest ballads. Jayy008 (talk) 18:58, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
Agreed, but I do find it difficult to choose. Jayy008 (talk) 17:15, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

RE:Proposition/Hi There

Thanks for the outreach! That sounds like a great idea! I've seen some of your work on the Mariah articles. At one point I planned on working on MOAIA, particularly "Obsessed" but I guess it fell through the cracks. Maybe you & I can work on it sometime! Ok, so I'll do the Music Box article and could you do [this one (since its my last article before I can send the article in for a GA topic) and OMG (song)? Candyo32 20:37, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

Re:Question

Hi Nathan, everything's good thanks, how's the editing going? Yes, you should be able to upload images of scanned album/single/video covers if they are strictly to represent a single/album/video-clip in question. You should also be able to take a photo of a video-clip with a camera and upload it. But, of course, you could not upload a cover of a single/album/video onto artists' biography articles.--Harout72 (talk) 16:39, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Yes, you should not have any problems using it as long as you cover all the points of "Wikipedia:Non-free content". See here how some others have done it for example. And congrats on your GA article, Mariah Carey article, I suppose?:).--Harout72 (talk) 19:41, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Congrats to you guys on your GA! One tip on the non-free content... get it on an article page ASAP so it doesnt get deleted. Non-free content without a fair use (ie: actually being used in a manner that qualifies as fair use) is of course not fair use (since it's not being used)... head spinning yet? :-) Lemme know if that doesnt make sense. Experience

Can you help me with the experience book banner thing? The medal on my userpage goes fine, but when I add the book it pushes it all around funny. Can you put the book next to the medal for me? Jayy008 (talk) 20:34, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Thank you. And on a side note, can I worry that "Oh Santa" isn't in the iTunes top 200, yet? Jayy008 (talk) 16:37, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm glad you kept track, my mind is now at ease :). PS, thank you for doing my user page. Jayy008 (talk) 10:28, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
That's strange; I know it's one of her biggest in the U.S. but the page is kinda empty. I'm looking forward to seeing it, though. Good luck :) Jayy008 (talk) 14:21, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Just thought I'd let you know I left some minor things which I think might need clearing up on the FLC. Afro (Say Something Funny) - Afkatk 10:19, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

RE:Music Box

I'll try to get it done in the coming days. I've gotten kind of behind and then combine that with school and college applications, and all this other stuff in one week I'm going crazy! Lol! But i'll try to get it done, I actually have some stuff already down, its just not on the review page and I'll try to have it done soon. Candyo32 02:03, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

The source for Canada says that the album is certified 2x Platinum, not 3. Jayy008 (talk) 14:31, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

That's a bit of a brick wall. Recently, I asked the same thing about sourcing. I was told that if the source doesn't tell you the relevant information, it can't be used. So I don't know what to suggest about that one. That's great, I'll listen and get back to you. Jayy008 (talk) 22:04, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict)I saw your reply an Jamie's page, Nathan, and I wanted to just interject a little remark. I am aware of (at least) one hole in CRIA's site, because I found it while trying to find refs for something or other. Their web search doesn't work, but then when you find the month-by-month pages you think, "cool, I can do the work anyway, even if it means more manual effort". However, while skimming along from month to month, there's suddenly this hole for one month where you can't tell what treasures might be down there at the deep, dark bottom.
And while I'm complaining about the CRIA, I wish they'd correct the pages like this one using the copy-and-pasted <title> from January 2005. It makes it a pain when citing them here.
Anyway it seems odd that they would take the time send you (and possibly others) a document when it'd be more readily useful (to us all, and not just on WP) to have their missing page put up on their site.
That's all; go on about your conversation as you were. I'll just go back to lurking again... — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 22:08, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Hey John. Well its true, I have it and can show it to you for proof if you would like, so I'm not BSing you. :).--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 22:23, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
No, no, you misunderstand me. I believe you completely. No offense intended. Not what I meant at all. I was just jibbering away about the CRIA hosers. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 00:28, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Ohh hahaha, I get you! Yeah that is weird. Instead of sending me a personal report, they should get their act together and fix their site! :)--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 00:30, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

:::I am going to bring it up for discussion actually. I was told a source shouldn't be used without the relevant information, so I guess the community can decide. Jayy008 (talk) 12:36, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

PS. I'm shocked at those songs, THE VOICE THE VOICE, love it! Jayy008 (talk) 12:36, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Very excited. I was going to the get the box-set but changed my mind, going for the dvd set now instead :). And yeah, he must have. Glad it's done now. I agree, though, how very stupid, instead of taking the time to send an email FIX THE SITE lol Jayy008 (talk) 12:46, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Lol, exactly. Very silly. Jayy008 (talk) 12:51, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Doesn't an infobox image have to be just of the person who it's supposed to illustrate? No matter how bad the other may be, lol. Jayy008 (talk) 23:10, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

No, I mean, doesn't it just have to be her? I don't know myself, I'm just wandering. And yeah, awful photo's, lol. Somebody on here said she looks like Ru Paul, if that's how you spell it? Jayy008 (talk) 23:20, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Oh Nathan, seriously, don't get me started. I really feel like quitting. I spend so much time fixing this site. And I'm having problems with a user, who is rude and hurtful. And I feel like nothing can be done. Take a look... It's obvious rudeness, bullying and failure to engage in discussion. In person, he'd have to be in my face shouting at me to say all those things. I'm seriously annoyed, I miss the good old days when I did music pages. I'm hoping the new Mariah album gets me back into music! Jayy008 (talk) 23:32, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
Ha, I find them confusing myself! And yeah, exactly. No opposition, shouldn't have any problem. Since you worked on the article so hard, more people should see it. Jayy008 (talk) 23:38, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for participating last time :)

Hi Tbhotch thanks for participating in the failed nomination for Number 1's. The article didn't pass, even though you supported and there were no opposes. Supposedly there weren't enough "Support" to promote, even though there was no "Oppose". There just simply aren't enough people that visit the nomination page :(. So I nominated another article until I cann re-nominate the old one. This time I'll just invite people to come and review lol. So can you rview Daydream (Mariah Carey album)? Your quick and very helpful. Thanks anyway, here is the review page. Thanks anyway! :)--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 00:52, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Hold on actually, it seems I have to wait :S.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 00:58, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Well, that happens, the same rules of FLC. Yes, unfortunatly you need some supports for pass an article, but no not give up with that, someday it will be approved. BTW I'll review it in this weeks, and I'll give my review when your are able to re-nominate it. TbhotchTalk C. 06:06, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks and such...

Hi Nathan, thanks for responding in the "List of..." conversation (re: Iron Maiden). Hopefully we can all assume that's "put to bed" for now. My only wish (and this is related to all such music topics) is there were a better way of judging album sales. The RIAA seems temperamental at times, band claims may be overstated or understated, and those who can actually post real numbers (the labels or publishing companies) of course have biases towards promoting their bands. Kinda funny situation, isn't it?

Anyway, that's just a wish - I know there's no real better answer to it, so we've only got what we currently have to work with. It's just I'd assume Mariah, like Maiden and numerous other bands, have more sales than their certs indicate - coupled with an even more important factor... when it comes to determining sales by their certs (ie: Gold or Platinum), there's still a lot of wiggle room, especially for artists with a lot of releases. Inotherwords, let's say an artist has earned 50 million in cert awards over 10 albums... it means they may actually have just a few less than 100 million in sales. (Artist "A" sells 999,999 of Album "B" - they get a gold cert for 500,000 because they are 1 short of a platinum... and if that happens twice, their certified sales are 1 mil, but could be 2 records short of 2 mil - or anywhere inbetween).

Ah well... just rambling... it's just sad that one can find out exactly how many of any particular car was built, right down to the last digit, but figuring out record sales is an exercise in futility to come up with actual numbers.

Hey! About One Sweet Day

Nathan, I see you have nominated One Sweet Day for a GA. Good job on that. It would be really good if you can include the Key Signature of the song and composition too. You can find the details at Musicnotes One Sweet Day. It would also be good, if you can add any other information on the song's message into that section too (from your Mimi book). Thank You! Novice7 talk 10:35, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Have you checked songfacts? One Sweet Day. I also found this website - Nathan Morris talks about the song Soultracks. You can get the tracklistings also at Discogs. BTW, do you happen to have any Whitney Houston books? I really want to edit and improve her pages. I don't have one, so if you could help and update them, it would be nice. I will provide any info I get on One Sweet Day. Thank You Novice7 talk 11:27, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks mate! I will try and get my hands on them. Novice7 (Talk) 11:50, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

I've been away since 21 October. Your requests for help on this article came under another username, which is confusing, since I could find no edits to the article under that name. I understand the position now. Anyway, I did a little work on the early sections before running out of time, and I fear that my contribution will have to end there, as I am snowed under with commitments at present. I believe that the article's chances at FAC would be improved by sending it for peer review, where it will definitely be picked up by other editors, although you may have to be a bit patient. One Sweet Day

Hey I saw a small mistake on One Sweet Day, in the lead you said it topped the charts in New Zealand and Canada as well, but then you go on saying that it reached the top ten in Canada again which is redundant. Then in the commercial reception you said Canada only had peek of 2 for the song, when at the bottom at peak positions it says that it went number one in Canada. So I'm not sure what your trying to say, did it go number one in Canada or top ten? Just thought I'd let you know as this is trying to become GA. --Blackjacks101 (talk) 23:57, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Thank you so much! I just finished the deletion nom for "Underneath the Stars", you just have to support it. Crossing my fingers for "I've Just Begun" to be deleted to and GH:MP to be passed. And I'll finish reviewing "All I Want for Christmas Is You" tomorrow, I'm freakin' tired and going to bed. :D. Xwomanizerx (talk) 05:20, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Naming

Hi Nathan, I've recently changed my signing name but I don't know how to change the colour of it, can you help please? Also, on my user page, do you know how to align my box right? Jamie (talk) 14:08, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Eesh :/ It didn't work :S. Can you make one for me please? JLS in black and simply "talk" in the same green that's on my talk page please? jayy008 (talk) 15:33, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
The green in my "hours of operation box" and the original font please :) If you can't edit it just give me the formula and I'll do it. Thanks :) jayy008 (talk) 15:58, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
I love it, but maybe the JLS JLC in italic and the "talk" changed to "contact me," is that easy enough? jayy008 (talk) 16:19, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
No no, I mean I want the JLC in italic. Can the two words also be closer together? I feel like I'm asking loads lol jayy008 (talk) 16:37, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Perfect, if you put it in italic for me and have a dot in the middle just like yours. Then it's all good :). Really appreciate it! jayy008 (talk) 18:19, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Perfect :) jayy008 (talk) 20:35, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

RE :)

Hi~ & No problem! I'll get to OMG soon, I've just been so busy and hectic that the only thing i've been able to do in Wikipedia is work on this one discog i'm trying to do and maintain my watchlist from vandalism. Anyway, I'll do the One Sweet Day section soon. But prior to that, I will point out some things before the article gets reviewed. The review box needs to be removed from critical reception because they are not used in singles articles. When the composition section gets established, the sample needs to be moved there, because the sample in no way helps understand the awards section. Which allows me to flow into the next subject. Taking a look at your noms for Daydream and Number 1's, I hope you don't mind me critiquing, but you use way too much audio samples in your article. We can only use non-free content to a certain extent, because of copyright violations. I think three is good, but depending on the editor, they only allow two to one. Daydream is fine though, I would move one sample to the singles though. But Number 1's..idk. Even if more samples were preferred, I wouldn't know others editor stance, considering it is a compilation album, those samples would be better suited on the original album's page. I hope I don't come off as rude, but I'm just trying to help you improve your articles :) So I'm going to go do a comp. section right quick for that article while its on my mind. Candyo32 19:09, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

"One Sweet Day" is a down-tempo song, which blends R&B and pop music. The song is set in the time signature common time, and is written in the key of A major It features a basic chord progression of A-D-9. While Carey and Boyz II Men's vocals span from the low note of E4 to the high note of A5, the piano in the piece ranges from D2 to A5.

Here you go! Keep in mind this is just information taken from the sheet music. Use critical reception to add more information about

  • other genre influences, *vocal stylings
  • lyrical content
  • comments on the production. If it comes to it, you may need to combine the sections, but I have a feeling with the information I noted above, the section could stand on its own.

Btw, look at the references for musicnotes at 4 Minutes (Madonna song) to see how to source its sheet music.

Reply..

Thank You for giving me the necessary instructions. You see, I'm short on sources. So I cannot actually expand all the sections. But I've asked for the Whitney books You've mentioned. I could not find them in the libraries in my neighborhood. Maybe, I can expand them then. About Jessica Simpson discography, I actually got that format from Candyo32. Please see Kesha discography, Hilary Duff discography. Please do let me know of your opinion. And, BTW, can you review both Just Whitney and Waiting to Exhale. I'm sure they both would fail:( Novice7 (Talk) 06:04, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Almost forgot! Can I use Spoken word cds as sources? Like this? Do you know? Thanks Novice7 (Talk) 06:21, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
So, is the discography page OK? Should I revert it to the previous style? About the CD, it's almost very clear. I've got some points from that too. So, is it okay to add? I know I'm being a little too odd... Sorry for that... :D Novice7 (Talk) 06:49, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
Nathan, what I meant is, I have listened to the CD and even noted down the important points on my own. I guess that information cannot be used? Am I right? Again, about the discography, can you please read the lead and tell me if its okay? I've added the information of the chart performance and sales in the US. There is no significant info on the UK, so shoul I add info abt Australia or Canada to compensate? Thanks Novice7 (Talk) 06:56, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
I've got some information on the discography page. Here it is WP:DISCOGSTYLE. They're samples. They resemble the format Candyo32 has used. Just to notify you.. Novice7 (Talk) 07:06, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
Nathan, it would be very helpful if you could point them out at the Archive1 Peer Review page. I did the page in a hurry. So, there might be a lot of errors. Thanks Novice7 (Talk) 16:14, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

This will hopefully help...

Hiya Nathan, this[2] will hopefully help. I'm learning that more often than I thought, there are editors with a thousand or more edits who've simply never run into such a situation and don't know the best way of dealing with it - or simply dont check the talk page first. Something I've started doing is leaving hidden comments (like in the Iron Maiden article, which, btw, check your email) that ask people to join the discussion before editing. Anyway, hope that helps expand and improve the conversation on that article before a contentious editing situation starts. Best, Rob ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CNTRB 03:58, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Free Images

I have moved File:Mc-new-years-3.jpg to the Commons, so that other Wikimedia projects can use it. In future, please upload any free images to Commons, as it saves unnecessary work. :) Thanks, Adabow (talk · contribs) 02:53, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Go to the Commons Upload page and upload the image there. You may need to sign up there first, or maybe you have a unified login? If you don't, you can go to Special:MergeAccount. Ask again if you get into trouble! Adabow (talk · contribs) 03:04, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
It's fine for me. Maybe you need to bypass your cache (Shift + F5 should do it). If that doesn't work I'm not sure what the issue is... Adabow (talk · contribs) 03:11, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Done :). BTW, commons pages are galleries - you have to add an image to the page for it to appear there. I usually don't bother with them, as I only work on WP, so I use the category (Mariah's is here), which the image is in. Adabow (talk · contribs) 04:49, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Lol it was nothing, any time :D. Adabow (talk · contribs) 06:58, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
It's here now. You need to add a description of the image. I notice that these images have been uploaded recently; are you having trouble uploading to commons? Adabow (talk · contribs) 20:03, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Hehe, I know what you mean. It looks a bit overpowering at first. I can assure that it is as easy, if not easier than uploading to WP, and it means that it doesn't create a pile of work for admins. If you still can't get it though, don't worry. Your work here more than makes up for it :p. Adabow (talk · contribs) 20:09, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
I know, WP has some real sharks. There are quite a few that bite the newbies as well... Adabow (talk · contribs) 20:15, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

There is nothing easier than finding an MJ fan, all I have to do is remove MJ's 750 million from List of best-selling music artists and by the next hour I'll have 100 fans attacking me, at that point you can come in and pick the best one:)--Harout72 (talk) 04:21, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Barnstar

The Working Wikipedian's Barnstar
This is awarded to you for how quickly you whipped up the All I Want For Christmas Is You page. I was just looking at the page a few days ago, then I look today and it's great. Not only is it great, the article is respective of the Christmas classic it is! Candyo32 12:52, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Btw, I hope to work on MCIIYou soon, collaborate? Candyo32 12:52, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Great, thanks!! Candyo32 17:56, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
& Btw, I didn't mean GA MCIIYou right away, I just mean like start development & stuff while it's recent and happening, because its much easier than months later having to search for all the information lol! I see you are beginning to develop another Mimi article already. I've done a little work on Obsessed but I've been interrupted by like five other projects. But I need to do some more. Please add any input you have. Also I listened to the audio of Honey, and I've heard that before and liked it! Lemme know if you ever decided to GA it! Haha. Candyo32 01:50, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
Oh tell me when you do The Emancipation too, im interested in that! Lol. One every two days? I wish I had the initiative like that. I need to do thati nstead of dragging on projects for like a week. But I think my problem is I like work on five things at one time instead of just going and doing one and having it done. And lol! I was looking out for legal problems that would come about it (even if that would have been extremely rare). And they would have been removed if you ever decided to FA-it, which you probably would. When I tried to FA one of my Ciara articles (which got slaughtered in FAC), I had two and they even wanted me to narrow it to one sample only. Candyo32 14:06, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, definitely. Whenever you want to start on it we could split the work up like one of us do reception and background and the other do chart performance and composition or something like that. Yeah I would think 3-4 would be fine two in the compostion and like two in the singles, but you know how things go down... lol. Anyway sure I'll do "Honey." But it probably won't get done until about late tomorrow, because I need to finish my 12 page research paper. :( If you have anytime, could you do a quick glance, nothing major at all, but just check over Taylor Lautner article for me. It's my first television/film article I plan to GA, and I want to get a lot of people's opinions before a submit it. I was going to do a peer review but those take so long before someone reviews it (if they ever do.)Candyo32 20:22, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks!! I just don't want to get in GA review and then someone quick fails it or brings up like +100 errors. I plan on doing a few singers and actors in the future. & That's be great Ga-for-Ga lol. If you don't mind, could you do Headstrong (Ashley Tisdale album)? It's not that long so it shouldn't be much :) Candyo32 20:36, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Hey! About Honey..

Nathan, first of all, a very good job on Honey and other MC articles. I hope they all get to GA or FA soon. While looking at the Honey page, I found out that for the charmbracelet tour pic, you have put the description as "Without You". I know its a small mistake. Also, how do you take these music video screenshots off youtube? Oh, almost forgot, the chord progression for honey is something like Bb(add2) - Fm11 (I don't read music. I just guessed it). I guess someone who can read music can help you. Good luck! Novice7 Talk 07:39, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Re:AIWFCIY

Just checking 'em now. File:Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You.ogg hasn't been reduced - do you want me to do that? --Adabow (talk · contribs) 08:58, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

There are a few minor things still to do - mostly minor - but it would be good if you can find some more reviews of the song. Adabow (talk · contribs) 09:08, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
In the 'Track listings' section, look at the last one. I don't think that the album's partial tracklist (if that's what it is) should be there. In the 'Music video' (singular now, is that intentional?) you could link Christmas tree, Santa etc. If you feel that that would be overlinking then please tell me. Some refs that grab my attention and need work are 14 (BB should be before Nielsen), 34 (you can use [ and ] to get [ and ]) and 49 (RIAJ shouldn't be in italics). Oh, and btw, Billboard is now owned by Prometheus Global Media, do you think you should update this in the article? Adabow (talk · contribs) 09:20, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Better. I'm sorry to keep nagging, but the references really do need improvement. Give them all a pretty good run-through to check that they're all OK. I'll give a couple more examples: Ref 10 - MTV Networks should be after MTV and not be in italics, ref 14 - Prometheus Global Media (not Nielsen) should be after Billboard, and should not be in italics. Gruelling, isn't it? :P Adabow (talk · contribs) 09:42, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and I've struck the reviews comment - but keep your eyes peeled... Adabow (talk · contribs) 09:43, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
And the Harvard-style referencing is broken - shouldn't be too big a problem to fix, though! Adabow (talk · contribs) 09:45, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, there are some real rudies out there. Anyway the "work" parameter is for who wrote the article. Eg for Billboard, it is Billboard. The publisher is for who publishes the work, ie Prometheus. If there is no newspaper of magazine I usually shove the 'work'er in the publisher field in front. I'm not very good at explaining things, I've probably confused you more lol... Adabow (talk · contribs) 09:49, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Lol I wasn't trying to imply that you are a noob. Better, but not quite. It might be easier if I do it, but I'm off to bed now (I have an accounting exam tomorrow, yikes)! I hope that there aren't any monsters that come to rip your FAC party in the meantime :P. Adabow (talk · contribs) 10:09, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

No problem. If you get a spare moment, would you mind having a look at my FLC? No biggie if you can't, as you're probably very busy. Adabow (talk · contribs) 20:50, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

RE:All I Want for Christmas Is You: I have noticed that you have split the chart tables by year. If you are going to do this you must remove the sortability function of the table. FA review seems to be progressing quite nicely... :) Adabow (talk · contribs) 08:41, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Well if you sort the tables the year headers are pointless as they are sorted too. You have to either remove the sortablility or create one year header. Adabow (talk · contribs) 19:45, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
I don't mean to but in, but about Jappalang's comments for NF files: I think it is fine to keep all of the files, including the music video screenshot, he just wants you to write better non-free use rationales. The same for the cover, as you need to say where you got the file from. Good luck! Adabow (talk · contribs) 05:44, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

The Honey GA review is up now as well! I'll get to Headstrong first. And thanks about the Lautner article, I worked very hard! Candyo32 00:15, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi, few more unresolved issues on both reviews. Candyo32 00:43, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Likewise, there are fixes made to Headstrong now. Candyo32 01:22, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
I'll get to re-reviewing both ASAP. In the meantime, help here? It's easy to critique someone's work, but it's very hard to develop an article :( Anyway, I support AIWFCIU and its few more issues mainly dealing with NPOV/paraphrasing for Honey. Candyo32 12:19, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Ok, after I fix the flats, I'll be happy with Honey! Also, I haven't checked the review lately, is there an update on Headstrong? One more thing, if you get a chance, could you stop by an comment here Wikipedia:Featured_list_candidates/Chris_Brown_discography/archive2. I just began the first review yesterday and one of the editors closed it while I was corrections were being made (while I had already corrected the ones there). Anyway, congrats on Honey! If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest this block by replying here on your talk page by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}}. You may also email the blocking administrator or any administrator from this list instead, or mail unblock-en-l@lists.wikimedia.org.

I have blocked your account for one week because you uploaded copyright violations (see deletion notifications above, as well as File:Mc-new-years-3.jpg), and then lied about where these images came from. (Saying it was taken by a friend, you just needed to document his permission, etc.) To be unblocked, you will have to show that you have read and understood WP:COPYRIGHT. Request reason:

This block is totally unjust, unfair and abuse of power. Firstly I completely understand the copyright violation and I did not lie. Someone gave the image to upload that is the truth. This is the first image I've had a problem with, that I've tried to include in other articles. It's terrible that vandals are running a muck and getting warnings and I'm blocked for a week for a misunderstanding or mistake! I've been here for 2 years and have never had a copyright problem. I am a fair and just editor, you can see and ask who I work with. I have 7 GA's and 2 FL's I am honest and hard working on improving wikipedia. Your gonna tell me that I deserved to be blocked for 7 days because of my first mistake wioth images!? That is unfair and shameful. These are the exact rules "Contributors who have extensively violated copyright policy by uploading many copyrighted files or placing copyrighted text into numerous articles may be blocked without warning for the protection of the project" How am I a multiple offender or vandal or an extensive abuser?! This is a one time mistake, that was not intentional. I did not lie about these images, they were given to me by my friends on Facebook who have been to these shows. There is no reason to not accept good faith, as I have never had an issue of this sort and never plan to have it happen again. It was a mistake for trusting someone else, from now on I will only upload my personal photos. --CallMeNathanTalk2Me 17:30, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Decline reason:

The messages above indicate that your apparent copyright violations consist of more than one image. Moreover, your explanation that "somebody else" gave these images to you is not credible, because when you uploaded them you claimed that you were their author. The one week block is appropriate. Any copyright violations made after it expires will likely result in an indefinite block.  Sandstein  18:52, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I am very very against copyvio. But, I have actually looked at the page in question, and it is a fan driven site with fan submissions. I would have, before presuming Nathan lied, asked for clarification - especially since the image(s) up there are not even necessarily owned or created by the site[3]. Nathan's had a few blocks in the past, but none have been for copyvio (even with a lot of images and audio uploaded - see contr logs). The site in question claims no ownership of the image(s) and clearly states it takes fan submissions for the images and stories. Best, ROBERTMFROMLI | TK/CN 18:57, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
Ah the old chestnut - the site does not claim copyright - because it does not have to do so. Copyright is implicit, as soon as the pictures are published, the author has that protection, it does not need an explicit statement like "(C) Fred Bloggs Photos" to gain copyright - although lots of sites do so. What it does need is an explicit copyleft (e.g PD, CC-BY-SA, etc.) statement to allow it to be used on Wikipedia. Very few web images are suitable here, sadly quite a few get uploaded, and then all get deleted.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:15, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

{{unblock|Thank you Robert. The block says that I would be unblocked after I read and understood the Copyright violations. I did, I said it wouldn't happen again, this is my first offense, and I'm a good editor, so whats the problem. Whether the block is uplifted or not, the result will be the same. I will not upload photos again that I personally have not uploaded and it won't happen again. So I don't see the issue, the original blocker wrote that I could be un-blocked if that were the case. So please do}}--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 19:33, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

You still might miss the point: you may not upload photos, images, audio clips, or similar files that you are not 100% the author of. If you didn't take the picture, you cannot upload. Taking a picture of an album cover, or a stillshot of a music video is still not a picture that you are the 100% author of. Do you understand this? (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 22:02, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
I've unblocked you, because the block is no longer preventing any imminent damage. Please make sure you understand BWilkins' point above and don't upload any images unless you're 110% certain that they're free (or suitable for fair use). If in doubt, ask for help from more experienced editors or at WP:MCQ. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:59, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Hiiiiiiiiii

Hey there! I'm almost done with an article, and I would like for you to review it and another one of my pending GA's (both articles in question are fairly small) and I'll do "Breakdown" For you, if that is acceptable (or another one if you prefer)! Thanks for the help passing Headstrong, and I just happened to be trolling through and I saw you had to revert like a gazilion edits from a genre warrior. Smh, I hate when that happens lol. Candyo32 19:55, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Ok, so the one I want you to do is Acoustic Hearts of Winter, since you've done MC Christmas articles. lol. And it doesn't matter which other one you want to do because of the ones that are up now, you might want to do "Never Say Never (Justin Bieber song)" or perhaps "There Goes My Baby (Usher song)" because the last one "Turnin Me On" is quite long. Or you can just do just the Christmas album and I'll do just one of yours, whatever works for you! Candyo32 02:14, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Sure that's fineee!! But leave the TMO article for one of the last, as I still need to work on some paraphrasing in that article a little bit! Candyo32 04:07, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
I knew he would sweep. Although now its is surfacing online that Chris Brown was supposed to win R&B and Lady Gaga Artist of the Year on the teleprompter, but they didn't win because they weren't there. But I believe that was BS because Enrique Iglesias could have gotten Latin but Shakira got it and she wasn't there. I like "Pray" because its very inspiration and Christian, and I think the point was to prove that he could actually sing, but early on, Idk why he tried to reach that high note when his voice cracked, but he kind of picked it up and sung lower the rest of the song. Candyo32 23:49, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
I'm not always like "OMG ITS JUSTIN BIEBER" but I think its stupid when people always say he sounds like a girl or something, because in all truthness he doesn't. I think his new album will be hot. And it's good he's waiting until the 4th quarter of 2011 so people won't feel like its release after release, but it still gives a little bit of relief time. Also Drake and Lil Wayne are tentatively supposed to guest on it. I enjoyed Bieber of course. Rihanna was a hot mess. Real entertainers like Usher (who should have promoted a new single) and P!nk got less time because of her big medley. I thought the Backstreet Boys/NKOTB thing was irrelevant. Katy was good overall, she oversung in parts. Ke$ha was good considering...she's Ke$ha lol. Xtina did good overall, I was a little underwhelemd though. I'm hoping Burlesque brings her back to the top. Taylor Swift is so sweet, but she can't sing live, but I do like her the track. Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull was a hot mess but it was energizing. Miley was alright, considering..she's Miley. I wish she would drop Can't Be Tamed and bring out a more toned-down image and not this over-sexualized rebel. Luckily, she was tamed last night. Diddy-Dirty Money was good but I need more of the girls and less Diddy lol! BEP should be re-named will.i.am, Fergie & friends because we barely hear those other two. They were alright. Bon Jovi and Kid Rock were irrelevant. Finally, I Ne-Yo was awesome! Too bad this conceptual album thing isn't working for him and it seems as if it is set to flop. No offense, but all other albums being released today should have let Kanye West have the day. Especially Nicki, because on any other week she would have been a shoe-in for #1. Oh & Willow Smith should have performed instead of presenting! Ok my hand is tired now.. lol 01:01, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
& Also people keep thinking that once he "hits puberty" (like he already hasn't...smh) he'll be gone, but I predict in the next ten years he'll be Justin Timberlake. Lol Maybe Pink's baby was gettin' to her. Speaking of her rival, I love me some Xxxtttiiinnnaaa. But she's one of those entertainers where there is no in between, either you like her or you don't (especially her vocal style). People either think she's wonderful and the most gifted voices of our generation, or that she has no control and yells. But I will argue that she does have a style and technique, because any time you hear her voice you can tell its her. And Idk how she's gotten so fat in between like only six months. There are several such as Mariah, Beyonce, and more who have overall quality and control that are above Xtina's because she does over-do it most of the time. But I think I'd rather hear that then the output by Rihanna, Ke$ha, and even ole' rival Britney. But she sounds best when she's doing something like "Beautiful" or either her old-school work from Back to Basics. Taylor's new look is hot, she needs to keep it that way! And I hope the Peas flop too, although I like them a bit, I just don't want them to take over like they did last year, and I want a Fergie solo album. I also think they should have waited on into next year for their album. If I had to rank last night (and this is so totally biased): 1) Justin, Usher, Ne-Yo, Diddy-Dirty Money, Xtina, Taylor, Pink, Katy, Miley, Ke$ha, BEP, Rihanna, Kid Rock, Enrique/Pitbull Backstreet/New Kids, Bon Jovi, Train, Carlos Santana/Gavin idkCandyo32 02:11, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Re: Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/All I Want for Christmas Is You/archive1

Hi, sorry I was unable to get back to you before the FAC was closed. In response to the single cover, as already stated: "WP:CITE#IMAGE requests for a specific source (url or publication information)." This means the Source field must state where the image was obtained. As for the rationales of the two music samples, I find File:Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You.ogg to be fine now; however, I am hesitant over File:12 All I Want For Christmas Is You- Extra Festive.ogg. I feel the critical commentary over the extra festive piece already states quite clearly in words what the changes were and focuses more on the reactions to them. Furthermore, the reactions were over the piece as a whole while the sample was of the introduction, which does not seem to be the notable focus of those reviews. Jappalang (talk) 02:19, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

I want to apologize to you for not being able to come to the review sooner, by the time I had gone there, the review was already closed by Andy. I hope you got to know very important points with the review, and won't hasten now. In the meantime, I wanna work on "It's Like That" :) — Legolas (talk2me) 03:57, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Re: Edit to "Bestselling Christmas/Holiday Albums in the United States"

It may still be November, but Christmas album sales pick up in November as most retail stores start selling Christmas-related paraphernalia after Halloween. Many terrestrial FM radio stations around the United States also begin switching over to playing nonstop Christmas holiday music in November. As such, posting the biggest-selling holiday album for the current year so far is probably useful information for those visiting the wikipedia article. It can be changed/updated week by week as needed. Look up the wikipedia article "Christmas creep" for more information on this trend.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, Susan Boyle's "The Gift" has already sold well over 618,000 copies in its first two weeks of release this month. Mariah Carey's new holiday album, "Merry Christmas II You" has sold just under 90,000 during its first two weeks of release.

Nathan, if you have some time, could you comment on the merger proposal for "I've Just Begun (Having My Fun)" and the GA reassessment for the Love Hurts Tour? BTW, did you like the AMAs? Xwomanizerx (talk) 23:03, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

It was a mess, but I liked Pink's performance. Katy Perry is always a disaster though :P. Xwomanizerx (talk) 20:12, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
My problem with Katy is that I can't listen to some of her records, because I know she can't recreate the same vocals live. Well, she probably could if she actually did warm ups, but it's just so frustrating watching her out of breath before the first chorus lol. Xwomanizerx (talk) 04:30, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

RE:GAN

Great!! Thanks!! Only two more concerns. Since you used two block quotes, maybe you could put one of them in the box quote, just a suggestion. Secondly, Puerto Rico is mentioned twice. "Carey expressed how her visit to Puerto Rico and the current emotions in her life inspired her to write "My All" and "Of them was "My All" which Carey conceived during her trip to Puerto Rico in early 1997." So one should go. Candyo32 22:19, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

I'll get to the last GA review soon for you, as well as correct the Acoustic Hearts page. But I came to notify you that I have to be more careful in my reviews! Lol. In looking back at Breakdown, the last sentence in the lead needs a period, and the New Zealand cert needs sourcing. Candyo32 05:57, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Music samples

Can I advise that you read WP:SAMPLE? The two key points are that, to be of fair use, song clips must be 10% or less of the whole song for songs under 5:00, and 30s or under for songs over 5:00. The other point is that they must be low quality. You do this by selecting '0' on the quality bar (I take it you use Audacity?). You also need to check these out when you do GA review. I wouldn't worry about fixing all your older uploads, but in future, bear this in mind :). If you need a hand just ping me! Adabow (talk · contribs) 23:10, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

The FUR looks good, except for "This audio snippet is only being used to help beautify Butterfly's article page" - that kinda kills it. You know when you go to Wikipedia:Upload you can simply select 'An audio sample of a song' and fill in the details and it automatically does it for you. Oh, and if you have Audacity 1.3 when you go to export to .ogg format you click the 'Options...' button, and drag the slider to the very left to reduce quality.
