Cleanup tag
Thank you for helping to identify Wikipedia articles for cleanup! In case you didn't know, it's not recommended to use subst: with the cleanup tag. Leaving the actual template in place helps make it easier to automatically refile the page later, and allows changes to the template to show up on all tagged pages. Thanks again, Beland 18:30, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Beland, Thanks for the advice on the subst/nosubst issue - it's not clear from all of the consensus created docs here and from a personal point of view the nosubst is easier. Peripitus 07:00, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, there are lots of little fiefdoms, each of which seems to have their own tags and their own ideas about how to use them. No subst: is certainly easier for me, just because I have to actually un-subst: cleanup tags so my sorting bot can process them properly. 8) -- Beland 17:11, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Deletion of Lists
The vote for deletion of Lists of farms in Oppland ended in nonconsensus. As a result, I propose moving forward after considering the varous comments in the discussion. As you were one who voted for deletion, I'd be interested in understanding what you think appropraite criteria to merit inclusion in a list might be. Thanks - Williamborg 20:57, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- I don't have an issue with lists in Wikipedia (List of bridges in Canada List of national parks of the Republic of China) as long as they are effectively a better way than categorising or disambiguating. Opposed to lists for the sake of lists or wikipedia will become an unmaintainable list of lists. I'd far prefer that verifiable articles are created on individual farms and that these can then be grouped into a list document. Just as I'm sure some of these farms are notable enough for an article some are surely not, but without internal wikilinks I can't tell Peripitus 01:48, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
- You’ve described a useful criterion for creating a list: “useful to categorize or disambiguate”. This is consistent with the approach User:UmptanumRedux suggested—there is probably merit to the approach.
- I’ve used them in the opposite fashion as well. The List of national parks of Norway started as a list and the articles were then written (found several errors that way as well). And similarly the List of lakes in Norway is currently being worked through to assure that the major lakes are covered (not halfway yet, but getting there). Not all 4,500 lakes in Norway make it though.
- That said, you’re probably right, each farm in Norway does not warrant its own article. Although some like Tofte (a kings farm) and Havrå have quite substantial histories in their own right, others probably had absolutely nothing of historic significance associated with them.
- Ah well, I’ll blunder ahead a little with farms and see if I can finally converge on something that makes encyclopedic sense.
- Thanks for your help - Williamborg 02:17, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Redirect of Merlock Mountains
Thanks for doing this. I did go back and add a category, as that allows the name to still appear in the relevant categories. Do you know if categorising redirects is OK. I couldn't find anything on Help:Redirect. I may go and ask at WP:Help Desk or WP:Village Pump. Carcharoth 12:44, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- It would only lead to two entries in the same categories if the redirect and the destination are synonyms. That is not what I am proposing. For example, there are Mewlips (the creatures) and The Mewlips (the poem). One should be categorised in "Middle-earth creatures" and the other in "Middle-earth poetry". Even if one is redirected to the other, the categories should stay in place at both locations, in effect helping to disambiguate them. Carcharoth 13:19, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Removal of AskMoses.com Material
Hi - I see that you reverted several of my posts with various Jewish articles from AskMoses.com because of copyright infringements. I am AskMoses.com! My name is Rabbi Simcha Backman, Director of AskMoses.com and as such I can post articles from the website in their entirety. Is there any other information or paperwork that you need? I would like to insure that my posts from AskMoses.com are not reverted in the future. Thanks. Rabbisim 23:56, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

- If I add the GFDL on our copyright page and state explicitly that it is applicable to Wikipedia only, would that do the trick? Rabbisim 18:42, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- Also, on the bottom of a Wikipedia article to which AskMoses.com has relevent information, can I add a link on the bottom to an AskMoses.com article (full URL) without actually inputting any text from the article?

What's your main gripe about the 50 Cent article?
How isn't it neutral? It's very neutral. Please be specific so at least I know what to do about it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.35.15.107 (talk • contribs) 6 June 2006.

- I like your revision. For the time being, I'm just going to let it stay the way it is. If and when I decide to revise your edit then I'll be sure to be as neutral as humanly possible.
- response on user's Talk page - Peripitus (Talk) 06:54, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I see your point. The tricky thing about the article is that you can't post it in the fashion that I originally did. On the other hand, you can't water it down too much because 50 Cent is actually on-the-record as saying everything that the article states. I've looked extensively through Google and Yahoo searches to see if I could find any quotes that contradict his pro-Bush stance and I couldn't find a single one. My point is that I've attempted to bring neutrality to the article even if some people took exception to my edits.
- Why the hell was the 50 Cent/politics section removed? It is factual and unbiased. People should be prevented from deleting something like that when the only reason they sight for deletion is the fact that they don't believe it to be true. I keep challenging those people to provide proof to the contrary and not a single person has been able to do so. Can you do something about this? I would do it on my own but you certainly have a much higher status on Wikipedia than I do.

- Thanks for the tips. I created an account with the user name "Rambone". I understand your point about new people still getting used to Wikipedia. - This guy, LILKOVA, keeps on deleting the political views article, claiming that "political views are irrelevant". He's obviously ignoring the fact that dozens and dozens of other articles of non-politicians on Wikipedia DO state their political views. It won't allow me to edit it because I'm considered a new user. A few days ago he admitted to me on my talk page that he keeps deleting it because he doesn't like Bush and he doesn't want his favorite artist to like him either. Look...this isn't about whether or not you like Bush...It's about staying as NPOV as possible and sticking to the facts. Not only does that include being NPOV while adding articles and making edits but also in deleting said articles and edits.
Is there anybody here that can tell LILKOVA that he's in the wrong? I already told him but he ignored me the last couple times. I know you already told me to chill out a bit and come back to it in a week or so. However, that doesn't solve the problem of LILKOVA editing articles, in a obviously blatant POV manner, with impunity. Rambone (Talk) 17:03, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Ryde Secondary College and VandalProof
You just did a revert on this article to remove vandalism. Thought I would let you know that two vandals were at work at the same time on the article and your revert took it back one revision to an already vandalised article. It needed to go back two revision to get to the clean article. This is a bit of a problem with VandalProof and worth watching for. Hey Peripitus
I edited the place of birth of Pascal Chimbonda from
City:Guadeloupe
Country:France
To:
City:Les Abymes
Country:Guadeloupe
Because although he plays for france, he was born in the caribbean in Guadeloupe, the country, not the french town! : ) So I think my edit should have stood.
Btw, I created this account after having edited that page.

ideological nomadism
Peripitus --
Are you kidding me! I don't know about hits on Google, but this article not only has credible references, it is both timely and highly informative. It should not be trashed. The article is probably a recent article; give it time, people.
Just today, as the news of seven "home grown" terrorists arrested in Miami was breaking, I happened to stumble onto this article and I can't begin to tell you how much it helped me understand what we are dealing with in this war against terrorism.
Just this afternoon, in light of the arrest and charges brought against the seven men in question, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said, in a Justice Department news conference "They were persons for whatever reason came to view their home country as the enemy."
Well, what do you know! I said to myself. I read in this article "Some of such people may be inclined to embrace other ideologies, sometimes ones that are diametrically opposed to the existing or predominant system of their society, mainly as a rebellious action than a logical action."
The article said further: "For example the "Islamic terrorist" group known as al Qaeda, led by Osama bin Laden, and similar groups are known to target, for ideological conversion, groups in western societies such as the United States of America that they perceive would be ideologically unstable or weak due to dissatisfaction and grievance, people that feel marginalized and have a certain sense of anger towards their society or the underlying ideology thereof."
This article is both timely and useful and should not be deleted. I think all you smart people out there should clean it up, do what have to be done to keep this article.
If you don't believe me just read the article by Pete Williams, Jim Pokin and the Associated Press on the MSNBC website. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Citizenone (talk • contribs) 08:50, 24 June 2006.
- I think you may have missed my intention here. The article did ( and still does ) read as an essay. It also lacked ( thanks for fixing this ) any references ( checkout WP:V and WP:RS ). I'm still concerned that it's an essay as I cannot find any reference to ideological nomadism as a topic rather than words in a sentence. I've done a journal search through a local university library but it's unfortunately not up-to-date and often misses things. You seem to have built a Walled garden with the articles Ideological nomadism and Tribalizing America and this, coupled with the lack of references prompted my tag. Again - thanks for adding the references as these are essential in any article. Happy editing - Peripitus (Talk) 09:37, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
Thank you, Peripitus!
Hm! Disturbing news indeed, my dear Peripitus, which I thank you for bringing to my attention. I am confused however, as I also have Firefox - and while I do most of my editing with IE, I use Firefox to test my designs, and as far as I've been able to tell, my sig displays properly in it. I'm also puzzled as to how come nobody has ever told me about this possible bug, despite the fact that I've been signing this way for a very long time and at a big number of places. In any case, I wish to thank you again for your attention; I'll look at the code in my sig and check any possibles mistakes in it. Warm wishes, Phædriel - 13:38, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

- You're absolutely right, hun; the bug in my sig exists, but I believe the normal servers apply an auto-correcting script on incomplete or missing HTML code. Therefore, it doesn't appear when running the normal servers, but it does outside of them. The problem was a missing </font> tag after the heart icon - I can't believe I had not seen it before! I'm in your debt, dear Peripitus, thank you! Please, let me know if I can ever be of assistance to you. Warm wishes, Phædriel ♥ tell me - 13:51, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
