I just tagged your article for deletion because it appears to be lifted whole from the Herodotus entry. If that was a mistake (copy/paste error, maybe?), you might want to revisit the page and fix it up. Cheers. --Graham 07:41, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Bargsten.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bargsten.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 08:04, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

I think you should change this to a redirect to your Klaus bargsten article, which, incidentally, needs to be moved to correct the mis-capitalization. --Graham 08:19, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, nicely done, but you could have used the "move" link at the top of the page; that retains the edit history and so on. (See How_to_rename_a_page.) I changed the old page into a redirect, but please flag it {{db-author}} when you get a chance. Let me know if you have any question on my talk page. Thanks! --Graham 08:24, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

U-521 redux

I still think that your U-521 article doesn't provide enough novel information to justify its standing alone. Why not just merge it with Klaus? --Graham 08:26, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What Am I Doing Wrong

[edit]

I seriously am pulling my hair out trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong with my copyright status of my pictures of these articles. I have even emailed the proper owners of the pictures and received confirmation that I can post them on this website, nevertheless they always seem to be tagged for "speedy deletion."

I select the proper copyright status *1* when uploading an image and even write about the owner of the picture who has given me permission to use it.

Please tell me why I'm going through these complications. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Penfish (talkcontribs)

*1* Clearly you were not doing that. When you uploaded the images you selected the copyright holder only allows this work to be used for non-commercial and/or educational purposes. This automatically includes {{permission from license selector}} and {{db-noncom}} in the image description. You clearly did not look at the image descriptions created by the upload. I suggest you read these templates now and follow their advice. Also, if the licence allows it, please upload to the Commons so all languages can share. -- RHaworth 02:27, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Also, this:
(==Summary== Dominick Pezzulo of the PAPD == Licensing == Approved Status: Copyright has been approved by rightful owner. Copyright (C) 2001 John Desalvo, Rightful Owner (and friend to Dominick Pezzulo). New York, New York USA. This picture is to be used for educational purposes only.
was useless: you converted the two headings Summary and Licensing into text, you tried to use a non-template Approved, you failed to add an actual approved licence tag. {{GFDL}} would probably be appropriate in the case of that image. -- RHaworth 02:33, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Friend, what were you thinking? You can't copy an entire section of an article from a copyrighted website word for word. I refer to the Sept. 11 section and this [1]. Do you see at the bottom where it says "©2005 Courtroom Television Network LLC. All Rights Reserved." What do you think that little c with the circle around it means? Not only did you plagiarize that chunk of the article, but I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of it was taken word-for-word from another source. This man is a hero and he deserves an article bigtime but you can't just copy stuff from a copyrighted article!--Mantanmoreland 03:54, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do what I can. Please be more careful in the future as you can get in a lot of trouble for duplicating copyrighted content. I see there have been copyright issues before. I know your heart is in the right place and all but copyright is taken very seriously around here. Read through WP:COPYRIGHT.--Mantanmoreland 14:31, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your kind comments on my talk page. By the way -- a gentle suggestion that you look at the Dominick Pezzulo talk page and my recent edit. I call your attention to the edit summary of that edit.--Mantanmoreland 03:38, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ira isn't IRA

[edit]

Did you notice the very top of the page, where it says:

For other meanings, see IRA

And the top half of the IRA page is about various IRA factions. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 06:10, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I updated Ira to make it more clear that all of the Irish Republican Army references are listed on IRA. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 06:18, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, I clarified it at the top, so the article is improved. Take a look at Ira and IRA now. I didn't realize there were so many different organizations that can be referred to as the Irish Republican Army. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 19:18, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

BF 2142 Muscle car image

[edit]

You've removed this at least twice now. The first time you did you stated "got rid of an misplaced picture". Th1rt3en reverted your edit and asked "rv - how is that misplaced?". I've checked the discussion, and I've checked both of your talk pages, and as far as I can tell, you never answered that. I have reverted your second edit, and I would appreciate it if you answered Th1rt3en's question before removing it again. -NorsemanII 00:17, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Update regarding your third edit, where you said "Image Tagging for Image:Bf2af-musclecar2142.gif does not give source author for picture taken. ALSO, the fact that the muscle car is NOT in the game definitely signifies a 'misplaced picture'.)" Yes, there is a muscle car in BF2. It's in the Armored Fury expansion pack on the map Operation Midnight Sun. I've taken a screenshot and hosted it on imageshack for you: http://img89.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screen000ns2.jpg You can see the 2142 license plate discussed in the trivia, and you can see several of the hud and text items that are unique to BF2. I don't have a working image manipulator except for paint, so I can't resize it and use it instead. The image that was in that article was fine. There are several images on wikipedia where the author is unknown, and provided there's no breach of copyright, these are perfectly acceptable to use. I'm reverting the edit again. If you have any further complaints about the image, please bring them up in the BF 2142 talk page.-NorsemanII 03:34, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

REPLY - The muscle car is actually in the game, i know this because i've driven it, im the one who took that screen shot. If you have armorned fury and look in the right map you can find it. Also, the forklift is also driveable but not listed (I don't believe so). Google video of the car -th1rt3en 04:46, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Stroumboulopoulos.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Caspian

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Caspian (band), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Murderbike 08:31, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Caspian1.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Caspian1.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Notability of Lights out asia

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Lights out asia, by Freemasonic (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Lights out asia seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Lights out asia, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 07:27, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can tell, the link you re-added has been broken all day, and continues to be broken now. Were you restoring it because you thought it was accidentally removed, or for some other reason? I removed it again since you didn't explain this in your edit summary, but if there was a good reason feel free to put it back in (with an edit summary, of course)! Thanks for your edits to this article. I have made a number of changes just now, mostly for grammar and issues of convention, like italicizing ship names.I wanted to point out one specific change: in the main article text, I corrected the number of survivors from 27 to 33. Thirty-three agrees with the total list of survivors you included, and also with the numbers I sourced for 'my' article on USCGC Icarus. Just wanted to let you know! Speedy deletion of Dominick Pezzulo

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Dominick Pezzulo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Torchwood Who? (talk) 09:11, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free use disputed for Image:Marclepine.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Marclepine.jpg. Unfortunately, I think that you have not provided a proper rationale for using this image under "fair use". Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. Note that the image description page must include the exact name or a link to each article the image is used in and a separate rationale for each one. (If a link is used, automated processes may improperly add the related tag to the image. Please change the fair use template to refer to the exact name, if you see this warning.)

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 00:14, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions, including your edits to Laura Prepon. I did a little cleanup. I don't have time to check sources at the moment, but this has the "feel" of being lifted bodily from a website. Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Portroyalband.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.

Conflicted licensing on image File:Bargsten.jpg

[edit]

The above noted image or media file appears to have conflicted licensing. As an image cannot be both 'free' and 'unfree', a check of the exact status of this media/image concerned is advised.Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:05, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Freisler02.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Freisler02.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:32, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Thank you for uploading File:Franz Machen.jpg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
