I'm back! That was a long, unexpected vacation. :) Would you care to help with some more requests? 108.69.80.43 (talk) 01:02, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
- Sure, but no more than three at a time, please! :) Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 01:30, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
- No problem - I'll give you two! :) How about Jeff Butler and Erik Olson? 108.69.80.43 (talk) 03:25, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
- It's always tough searching for common names like these, as there are so many false hits. I gave it a go. Sorry I was not able to find anything for Olson. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 22:16, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Great work on Butler! Would it help if I sent you to Olson's LinkedIn profile? [1] 108.69.80.43 (talk) 01:31, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- I'll take a look. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 12:36, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- Great work on Butler! Would it help if I sent you to Olson's LinkedIn profile? [1] 108.69.80.43 (talk) 01:31, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- Is it Eric (as on linkedin) or Erik (as spelled by Wikipedia)? Anyway, I've checked both spellings and used search terms from various things in his profile, but sorry to report I've not found any sources. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:01, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, well, thanks for checking. 108.69.80.43 (talk) 12:07, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

I'd like to take a slight momentary detour. :) There are a couple of (non-artist) bio articles from which I'd like to remove the notability template, so hopefully you might have some references for them: Michael Dobson (author) and Steve Miller (game designer). 108.69.80.43 (talk) 12:07, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- Great work on Dobson! Here is a bio if you need more info about him. :) 108.69.80.43 (talk) 02:41, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. If you wanted to add more of the business-related books he has written, you could add from the list at Google Books here. I added citations to the reviews I could find.
I've searched using various strategies for Miller (a very common name!) but was not able to find anything; sorry. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:41, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
- Apparently he has also worked as a movie reviewer [2] (for Rotten Tomatoes?) if that helps. I'll try to find out more about him later. 108.69.80.43 (talk) 12:25, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
- Didn't really find anything else; at the very least he wrote "150 Movies You Should (Die Before You) See" if that helps. 108.69.80.43 (talk) 01:34, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
- I tired including that in the search strategy, but still couldn't find anything. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 22:54, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

How about Joel Billings? Seems to be that someone who started a successful company like SSI should have something written about him... 108.69.80.43 (talk) 04:18, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
- I found that the Austin American Statesman article was reprinted here in the Philadelphia Inquirer, in case you wanted to take a look. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:04, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks! :) While we're on the topic of computer games, it seems odd to me that someone like Feargus Urquhart or Ray Muzyka would be so lacking in sources, or even Don Daglow and Chris Avellone for that matter. 108.69.80.43 (talk) 02:26, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, Muzyka and Urquhart (how the heck do you pronounce that?) do look a bit better now. Let me know if you see anything for Daglow or Avellone. Also, when you have a chance could you look at see if there is anything for Eric L. Boyd or Ari Marmell? 108.69.80.43 (talk) 03:07, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

- I did find a good source for Daglow, from Game Developer, which I'll add in the next few days when I have a chance, and I'll look at those others too. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 03:24, 20 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, the Daglow article looks better. :) 108.69.80.43 (talk) 05:45, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- I added a source to Avellone; maybe you might also find something useable in this piece in The Guardian. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 16:17, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
- I couldn't find anything for Boyd. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 16:49, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks; have anything for Marmell? He has also written novels such as the recent "The Conqueror's Shadow". 108.69.80.43 (talk) 21:22, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
- There are just a few reviews of his novels, like this one in Library Journal. This and this were both published in the Contra Costa Times. This was published in Science Fiction Chronicle. And there's a review in Booklist. Do you think it's enough to reverse the redirect? Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 11:01, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
- I think it's worth trying; if not, I'd be happy to talk to discuss it with anyone who wants to challenge it. 108.69.80.43 (talk) 04:01, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

If you're up to doing some more, I was thinking about continuing on the track of computer game people with Josh Sawyer, Timothy Cain, Louis Castle, and Brett Sperry. 108.69.80.43 (talk) 03:20, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
- I couldn't find anything for Sawyer or for Cain. Castle gets many many hits, but it's hard to sort through them because at first glance it seems most of them are just brief mentions. See this and this search, for example. Is there anything useful that you see? If there's a newspaper article behind a paywall that you want me to check, let me know. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:25, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks - Sperry looks a little better (no longer totally unsourced). I added the Forbes profile to Castle, but I'm not sure what else to do with that one. I'm kind of surprised that there was nothing for J.E. Sawyer or Tim Cain, given some of the games they have worked on. 108.69.80.43 (talk) 02:55, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
- Sadly, the database does not include all newspapers and magazines, probably not even the majority of those published in North America. Anyway, I did add one citation for Cain just now, but it's just a very brief mention of him in the article, saying he's known for producing Fallout. Also a similar sort for Sawyer. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 03:13, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
- Eh, it's good enough - I'll take it. :) Thanks! 108.69.80.43 (talk) 12:06, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

If you're up to doing some more, could you give Chuck Kroegel, Cathryn Mataga (formerly William), Darren Monahan, and Drew Karpyshyn a look? 108.69.80.43 (talk) 12:06, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
- Back from a two-week unintended vacation. :) Thanks, Kroegel looks a little better. 108.69.80.43 (talk) 04:41, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
- Welcome back! I haven't looked at the other three yet, but I will. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 11:28, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

OK, so there are four more people left in Category:Dungeons & Dragons video game designers, namely Ken Nicholson, James Ohlen, Alan Miranda, and Al Escudero. If you get them, then that category will be complete. :) 108.69.80.43 (talk) 12:24, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- I seem to have helped prevent Escudero from deletion. Just now I added a couple of citations for Ohlen. Sorry I can't find anything additional for Nicholson or Miranda. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 03:14, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Good finds. I suck at googling. Add those to the article please? Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Otters want attention) 16:32, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Laureen Harper
the addition made to her page was within the terms for Public figures WP:WELLKNOWN Example: A politician is alleged to have had an affair. He or she denies it, but The New York Times publishes the allegations, and there is a public scandal. The allegation belongs in the biography, citing The New York Times as the source.
i realize that the citation of the first person blog is a violation but it included the original globe & mail article that was removed.
please reverse.

- I disagree, strongly. BLP policy requires much better sourcing for something so contentious. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 13:11, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
Laureen Harper vs. Obama Birthers
Erik, if you so strongly disagree about something so contentious, then the same policy should be applied to entries that question Barrack Obama's birthplace, Tom Cruise's sexuality, or Boris Yeltsin's sobriety. The Globe & Mail article was published by a renowned journalist, there was no bias in what I wrote, it is a matter of public record. Please reverse. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tommykitagawa (talk • contribs) 00:29, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
- I don't think those are apt comparisons. All those other speculations have been widely reported in multiple sources; this one about Laureen Harper has not. The Norman Spector column was so contentious that the Globe even pulled it from its website. BLP policy here has repeatedly upheld that this sort of barely-reported speculative gossip is not suitable for an encyclopedia article. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:41, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
Naomi Klein
Thanks - I had just figured that out and was going to change it. ;-) You might want to see if the something similar happened with other articles Colonies Chris changed at the same time with the same edit description. 75.60.17.6 (talk) 02:27, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
- Beat ya to it. :) I looked at about five of the others CC changed, and didn't see the same issue. But the others weren't using the reference formatting that the Klein article is. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:40, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
Thank you
Thank you for keeping a watchful eye on Don Valley Parkway. This person clearly has too much spare time, but I'm hoping that semi-protecting the article for a few months (without a set time appearing when you try to edit saying when it will be unprotected) will give them enough time to forget. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 17:57, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

- I might be able to scrape together a little from a couple of the sources I added to the album article, but otherwise there's just a bunch of tabloid stuff from when she dated Aaron Carter. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 03:31, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks so much...
for helping me with my first article on the artist Tenille... she is really notable, so it was a bit frustrating to have it nominated for deletion right away. It did not turn me off of Wikipedia, I just didn't know what to do as I wasn't sure about formatting and the best ways to go about making an article. Your input really helped, and I loved what you did. Thank you so much!!! Overcoathangover (talk) 05:53, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Ip, Don Valley Parkway, and my non-stop adventure
Hey, noticed you unprotected DVP. I wish I could say that locking out IP contributions for several weeks helped discourage the pest, but they just move from highway article to article as each one is protected in turn. I've almost reached the point of requesting a rangeblock at AIV. Any thoughts? - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 04:09, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- Don't let them get to you too much... reverting them pushes up your edit count. :) I'm not sure the level of disruption is frequent enough to warrant a rangeblock, although it would depend on some assessment of how much collateral damage there would be (blocking IPs that are making constructive edits). I have requested rangeblocks in the past but haven't developed the technical skill to enact them myself. I've now added Ontario Highway 407 to my watchlist; are there some others? Thanks, Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:21, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- I try... its like teaching a new pet - the first 20 times its part of the fun, but then its just aggravating :/

Question: Johnathon Allen
Why were the pages I created, for Portland based writer Johnathon Allen and his book, Doppelganger Effect, deleted? I put quite a bit of time into them and now everything has been lost, of which I didn't have copies of... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amandaclaire4 (talk • contribs) 05:09, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Amandaclaire4. Doppelganger Effect was deleted by another administrator, Fastily. I deleted the article about Allen because there was no indication in the article that the subject would warrant inclusion in an encyclopedia. Have you had a chance to look at the guidance at Wikipedia:Your first article? One of the key things is that articles that do not cite reliable independent sources (not simply the subject's own website) are likely to be deleted. And we're particularly cautious about biographies of living people. In any case, your work is not lost—it's just hidden from view. If Allen does meet WP:N notability guidelines, your work can be restored. If you would like me to email you a copy of it, just let me know. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 16:50, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Closing of WP:MUSIC request for comment
I commend you for taking this on; I was looking at it as well (I wasn't involved in the discussion), and I was finding it difficult to determine an effective way to summarize it. That said, I do think there are some problems with your close:
- The numbers point to a no-consensus close. While I agree with the notion that it's supposed to be a discussion, not a vote, the discussion here indicates that the community is split on the question of whether to make the change. If there's such a split, then the supporters would need to have effectively rebutted the opposers' arguments. That doesn't appear to be the case here; if it is, I think you need to say more about how you're perceiving that.
- Your linking to WP:NOTINHERITED in your close is problematic. The supporters were not making a link to that essay, and the bulk of their comments did not appear to be focussed around that. Putting this in your close risks a perception of a supervote. Beyond that, the essay (which generally has strong consensus) does not even support your position, as it says, three of the notability guidelines, for books, films and music, do allow for inherited notability in certain circumstances.
- There is a larger consensus about SNGs. There has been a minority of editors who would like us to do away with the subject-specific notability guidelines, and they argue that every article must meet the GNG. But there is not consensus for that change on a larger scale, when it has been discussed in a larger RfC. The change that you've made to NALBUM and NSONG effectively does away with those SNGs and reiterates the GNG.
Happy to discuss if my analysis here is off-target, or if I misunderstood what you put in your closing statement. Thanks, Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 18:57, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for raising this with me Paul. I've taken a look again, and a simple head count gives 22 in support and 12 against. This is around 65%. I didn't include the !votes from the immediately previous vote as that was a different discussion, and those taking part in that had their own section within the discussion in hand, though looking at it now, and including those votes (9 in favour, 7 against) wouldn't make any real difference. Looking at the comments that the keeps made, only 6 were unambiguously in favour of albums of notable musicians being in themselves notable, while some other keep comments were less clearly in favour of such albums being automatically notable: Sir Armbrust indicated that the wording was already in favour of album articles needing reliable sources so no change was needed; Robert.Allen felt the wording was useful in making it clear that independent sources were needed. As Fiftytwo thirty pointed out, there were different opinions being expressed because the wording was unclear. However, what emerged from the discussion is that there was a consensus that the wording needing amending, and that most people wanted the wording to follow the GNG guideline.
- As both the headcount and the comments indicate a consensus that wording which implies that "Every album by notable musician gets own article" is not acceptable, I don't see how a close in favour of that could be seen as a "supervote". If the consensus is already there, then extended comment made by the closer is simply additional comment made for purposes of clarity. WP:NOTINHERITED was mentioned in the discussion, and implied in a number of the views, so linking to it was appropriate, though I take your point that, interestingly, the essay does mention WP:NMUSIC. Perhaps that should now be looked into?
- I am personally in favour of subject specific guidelines, and have been involved in writing a few of them, and in rescuing "failed" notability guidelines so they are categorised as essays on notability - a template for which - Template:Notability essay - I created in 2009. But I am also someone who likes to follow consensus as I feel that is essential to the smooth running of the project. My view is that if there is a disagreement about the way things should be done, then we should hold a discussion, and then follow the consensus that arises from that discussion regardless of our personal feelings.
- I hope that has answered your concerns, if not, then please let me know, and we can discuss it further. SilkTork ✔Tea time 09:19, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi Paul,
I'd like to dispute the deletion of my links added to Wikipedia and the claim that the links to information relevant and in the public interest are spam or inappropriate...which is rude and offensive.
Firstly this is wrong, and being a journalist I'm starting to get suspicious as to why other journalism links have not been deleted but mine have and I will not rest until I get a decent answer.
Example of many pages I've tried to update and my hard work has been deleted:
Pete and the Pirates
In the external links section of Pete and the Pirates page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_and_the_Pirates, you see there is an external link for a Pete and the Pirates gig review in 2008, http://www.dailymusicguide.com/Reviews/pete_the_pirates_star_of_bethnal_green_gig_review_01092008_1713.aspx?preview=true.
HOW is this link more valid than my interview with the lead singer and guitarist of the band in 2011? To delete my link is to deprive the public of news that is in their 'public interest'. How is it that DailyMusicGuide are not accused of self-promotion when posting the link and why are there double standards?
Example 2:
When I've added references to pages they have also been deleted.
MP Christopher Chope: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Chope
Fact: I interviewed MP Christopher Chope and tried to film him for The Guardian newspaper. The interview was posted on my website and passed around campaigning and political circles. Not long after and almost unheard of, the Vulture Funds Bill, Chope tried to block was pushed through parliament before the general election. If you need verification of this feel free to email the Jubilee Debt Campaign or Guardian Films or journalist Ziad Zafar.
I have spent hours on uploading relevant and important information to Wikipedia only for all the links and references to be deleted for reasons that do not explain themselves properly. I thought Wikipedia was for the public and by the public and essentially fair? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jameelajourno (talk • contribs) 10:38, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
And what on earth does this mean? " Is just not OK, please stop it. Also, doing it with a username that suggests that it's your blog is really really not OK. " "Really, really not OK." Sorry? And why isn't it okay?
And "Sorry to be abrupt but you're creating a lot of clean-up for people." Well, sorry to be abrupt but do you even read and understand the links? I only posted references and links relevant and enlightening to the subject. All were factual and none were misleading, unlike people 'cleaning-up' relevant and good work. So, sorry to be abrupt but people should not go around destroying valid contributions, sabotaging peoples' time and effort and then, after hours of work destroyed, message people with offensive opinions as to why you were deleting the work, it created a lot of work for me and wasted time. I thought the links and references were disappearing through some fault with the system...
- Hello Jameelajourno, I am not Paul but I think I can address your concerns. I am sorry if you feel like you have wasted your time here, it is just that we can't have people coming and pushing links to their own websites, I hope you understand. If we did then external link sections would balloon out of control. Whatever your intentions, inserting links to your own website onto fifteen different articles in a single day certainly looks like WP:LINKSPAM. Just wait for people to link to you naturally please. In the meanwhile, thank you for your excellent reporting! JORGENEV 13:03, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for responding in my absence Jorgenev. Jameelajourno, sorry for the frustrating experience you have had here. Some of the comments you are referring to in your note to me were actually left by a different editor. It appears that what happened is you continued adding links after a couple of us tried to contact you on your talk page, and then the messages escalated to rude warnings to you. I am aware that it can look as if we have double standards about External links sections and what's permitted. Sometimes people add to them, and other editors are not quick to remove them for noncompliance with the external links guidelines. If someone adds many links and is perceived to have a conflict of interest, then those links are more likely to be removed quickly, reinforcing the likelihood of a double standard. Eventually, however, links that do not fit with external links guidelines and with WP:NOTLINKFARM get removed, for the reasons noted on those pages. Deleted external links
Dear Paul Erik, Thank you for your notifications. I am sorry if I caused any problems, but the links I added were for relevant posts on Tokyoweekender, which did not have commercial content. I am surprised my actions were regarded as spamming.
Best regards. Siraa lviv (talk) 09:30, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your message, Siraa Iviv. Unfortunately, Wikipedia has had such a problem with external linkspamming (to commercial and to non-commercial sites) that as soon as a new editor starts adding links to the same website to multiple articles, it gets identified as WP:LINKSPAM. See also WP:SPAMMER. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 13:57, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Marking page for deletion
Paul, thank you for your comments. Quick question - how do i best let a user know if i marked their page for deletion - just manually on their talk page ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Standard2211 (talk • contribs) 13:36, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, you could write a message on their talk page, or you could use a
{{nn-warn}}
template: {{subst:nn-warn|Nassif Zeitoun}} Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 13:53, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
I've struck my support for deletion on the article for now until I am able to get some idea of what this offline content on the music label is, exactly. Have you been able to access any additional sources that the other participants in the AfD said they had access to? (I'll be watching this page so you can respond here) Thanks, I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 08:16, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks! I'm waiting to hear back from them. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 15:40, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
- User:Megalaser has sent me several files. At least one of the articles is focused entirely on the record label, and others are focused on Simon Harris or on Derek B but do offer some coverage of the label beyond just brief mentions. I expect to have the time to go through them in more detail sometime in the next 24 to 48 hours. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 20:50, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
- I've now added sources to the article, and commented further at the AfD. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 01:40, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

I know there was a BLPPROD on the article, is that the one you were referring to? I didn't realize that a normal prod could not be used -- ever -- if the BLPPROD conditions were satisfied.--~TPW 21:00, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, you're incorrect, see Wikipedia:PROD#Sticky_prod.
“ | This does not affect the regular prod process, which may still be used on BLPs, including BLPs from which the sticky prod has been legitimately removed." | ” |
- I have no problem with you removing my PROD for the usual reasons, but if your only reason for removing it was the one you stated, please return it, because you were in error.--~TPW 21:04, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
- No worries, I learned something new regardless. I don't PROD often, but I wasn't aware of the "don't prod again" rule, so you saved me a future headache.--~TPW 21:06, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Hey Paul! It's been a while... I've done some work on the article Zeus (band). Can you possibly add some more content and/or review the article? I believe the History section needs a looking at. Allmusic has finally gotten around to an article which I've added as a citation (but with no real content added by myself). I believe the article is now class=Start. Depending on your magic, it may even be class=C :) Cheers, Argolin (talk) 04:29, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Argolin. Nice to see you again. I'll take a look at the article. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:52, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks Paul. I've made it class=Start. I plan on working on the Canadian-indie categories. Can I count on your help/advice? Argolin (talk) 00:15, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
Burning Love (band)
Ok Paul, I've put far too much time into the Burning Love (band) article. The Discography section doesn't look right (I know I did it), also I can't find anything on their single "Mess", and their nom for the indie award needs a citation. Pls help, and of course whatever else. Thanks, Argolin (talk) 05:18, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
- Sure. You could cite their Indie Award nomination to http://indies.ca/nominees_winners/2011-nomineeswinners/ . I see you removed their self-titled single "Burning Love" which was released by Deranged here and by Thirty Days of Night in the UK, but I think you may have confused the record label name with the song's name...? Also, just for your information, I made this edit which should be helpful for readers trying to find the article. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:25, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- The article says the nom was for their album. I changed it to: "The band was later nominated for Punk/Hardcore Artist/Group of the Year at the 2011 Indie Awards" per the new citation. So they did release a self-titled single? All I could find was the 2010 single? Argolin (talk) 05:29, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- Good catch on the award nomination. For the single: Apparently they did. The article listed "2009 - Burning Love 7" Demo - 7" Single (Thirty Days of Night (UK) and Deranged)" and the band's website says that the single is still available in the UK from the label Thirty Days of Night. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 14:05, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- I've looked at the Derranged Records site but couldn't find it. Where on the band's site? I've added the single back to their discography. Argolin (talk) 03:50, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

More D&D artists
Hey there, it's me again. Haven't had internet at home for a while, have a temporary service for now. May or may not go back to the same IP as before. Thanks again for your help with Escudero in particular, and the others. I have more artists if you want to look at them later, maybe tomorrow. :) 208.54.40.200 (talk) 05:54, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
If you wanted to take a look at some more pages, could you try out with David Roach, Douglas Chaffee, and David O. Miller? My IP will probably bounce around a lot until my regular internet service is restored, but you will always know it is me. :) 208.54.40.233 (talk) 21:59, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- I will know it is you! I hope to have a chance to look at these later this week. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:42, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
- Sounds good! 208.54.40.240 (talk) 07:37, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
- I was able to add a citation for Roach, but not for the other two. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:57, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking; at least there was something about Roach, but shame about the others. 208.54.40.202 (talk) 09:26, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Could you take a look for sources on Newton Ewell, Tony Szczudlo, and Eric Hotz? 208.54.40.202 (talk) 09:26, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- I found nothing for Ewell nor for Hotz, but added one for Szczudlo. Not a great one, but at least something. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 17:53, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking - with a name like Szczudlo, it's hard to be ambiguous. :) I think this is going to be my new IP for now. 99.126.204.164 (talk) 08:35, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
When you get a chance, could you please give Jim Crabtree, Denis Beauvais, Brian Snoddy, and Steven Belledin a try? 99.126.204.164 (talk) 08:35, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
- Crabtree was difficult, as there were over 300 hundreds of hits for "Jim Crabtree" and over 800 "James Crabtree". I tried narrowing it down by combining each search with terms like "Dungeons", "TSR", "Pinnacle", and "Iron Crown" but did not find anything about him. For Beauvais, I did manage to add a few sources. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 01:31, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- Awesome work on Beauvais, you really helped that one! Thanks for the add on Snoddy as well. Weird that Crabtree was so common, I didn't expect that. Did you find anything for Belledin? 99.126.204.164 (talk) 12:52, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
- Nothing for Belledin. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 13:53, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

- Fischer looks awesome, thanks! :) 99.126.204.164 (talk) 02:28, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
- For Mitchell, I've added an article about him from American Art and also provided a link to an online copy of the article, so you can expand the article from that source if you wish. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:16, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

Can you please see what you've got for Robin Wood, Dan Frazier, Emily Fiegenschuh, and Dennis Crabapple McClain (McClain was previously requested as "Dennis Cramer" - maybe you will find something under his other name)? Thanks! 99.126.204.164 (talk) 07:00, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Gilles Zolty
How 'bout doing some of your magic on Gilles Zolty? I've done some work on the article. I believe there is enough content there for a class=Start. Maybe not as it may overlap too much with Zolty Cracker? Argolin (talk) 04:00, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
- Sure, I'll take a look at it in the next couple of days. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:41, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
- Absolutely, when you find the time. Also: Bryan Webb, Rick White, and Andrew Whiteman. Argolin (talk) 03:47, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
Michael Phillip Wojewoda
Paul, the article Michael Phillip Wojewoda is wrong. Wojewoda has never won a Juno [12]: twice nominated yes, never a winner. The prob goes way back to 2007 to this edit [13] and this later one by the subject of the artilce [14]. Is there any action that needs to be taken before I correct the article? Let me know... Argolin (talk) 04:19, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
- He has in fact won two Juno Awards. I don't know why your search is not showing them, but you can see this search. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:25, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
- WOW! Thanks... Argolin (talk) 07:54, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
RFA thanks
Thank you for your comment and support at my recent successful RFA. Being now the new fellow in the fraternity of administrators, I will do my best to live up to the confidence shown in me by others, will move slowly and carefully when using the mop, will seek input from others before any action of which I might be unsure, and will try not to break anything beyond repair. Hey Paul, I've cited this article with the exeption of one statement I can't seem to find a citation for. Can you help when you get a moment? Thanks Argolin (talk) 00:54, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Argolin. Painted Thin's myspace page confirms it [15]. Is a citation really needed there? Did someone challenge it? I'm just a bit doubtful of the value of adding citation-needed tags for things that are not particularly contentious... But certainly it's nice to see you cleaning up more Canadian music articles! Great work. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 03:28, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
- Also, you've used this as a citation for the statement that Tait is from Winnipeg. While it's true that he's from Winnipeg, the source you've cited does not actually seem to confirm that. Unless I'm missing something...? (I sometimes do miss obvious things, as you know from past experience!) Thanks. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 03:47, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
- AAA! Yes, the article doesn't say he was born there. I've edited the infobox with the origin parameter to The Peg not the birth_place. I added the citation needed template for you; I knew we wouldn't be leaving it long. I guess remove it now? It was the only statement to which I could not find an independent source.
- I'm going through the Indie Rock Musician category. My first thought was that I could advance stub class to start and start class to C. That's only possible if there's enough content. I am adding citations to these articles and then removing any banner tags. I know to look at the talk page for any deletion discussion as there may be other citations I didn't come across. Would you mind if I asked you to review a list of 4-5 articles every now and again? I know wikipedia is always better with more editors rather than a team of one! Argolin (talk) 00:06, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
- Good stuff. I'm very happy to review articles about Canadian indie rock, if you mean copy editing them and seeing if I can find some additional sources. If you mean assessing as stub/start/C I think I'd rather leave that to someone else, as I am not especially experienced at that. Also, articles that I've contributed to I should not be assessing on the quality scale, as I feel that would be a conflict of interest. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 03:57, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

I need your help (and then some!). I am working on the Martin Tielli article. In my User:Argolin/sandbox5 version, I've removed the statement that he co-produced the 1997 album Luvskull. Allmusic says different. His website makes no mention of the album or the band People From Earth. Is that enough to remove it and move on?
When you get a free moment, I'd like your input on the structure of the article in the sandbox. I copied structure from Neil Peart. The article is still too rough to go live. There is a lot of info about him out there. I'm still gathering content. It's taking a long time....Argolin (talk) 03:48, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
- About the Luvskull credit, I'm not certain. I see at Discogs that Martin Tielli gets a credit for "Layout" of the album. "People from Earth" get a "producer" credit on the album—was Martin a member of People from Earth along with his two brothers? If he was, then that would imply that he co-produced, but I'm not sure that he was a member of the band.
I wouldn't remove it without checking with the editor who added it with this edit. That's User:- tSR - Nth Man, who does not have a history of adding false information to Canadian music articles! Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 18:14, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
Trolling anon
This anon user [16] has got to be the most annoying person that I've ever seen, never contributes to articles and only keeps pointing out reference violations. MonkeyKingBar (talk) 00:14, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Lachlan Astley
Just wondering why you were set out on deleting my article on Lachlan Astley. I dont mind if you personally believe it is a hoax, but to all the TRUE believers of the man that in my opinion changed the face of our planet, there should be a place to remember him by on the internet.

CSD
Thank you for your comments on my talk page. However, I would like to say a few things. First, I am very disappointed by the spam I have been getting from the wiki service and users alike concerning my CSD proposals. The new patrol page is a joke! Articles are backlogged almost a month, many of them are unsourced, unnotable and many more are horribly written. I did read the rules for CSD, very thoroughly in fact, and I still agree with my calls. You are an admin and that is why you get to make the final call but please don't spam my wall because I tagged a lot of articles. I read over 50 un-patrolled articles yesterday, of those 10 were speedily deleted, 6 were contested and many more were tagged with cleanup tags and sent on their way. Some of the articles tagged for deletion finally got the authors motivated enough to start improving them so I stand by that as well. I also tried to leave comments with the authors to help their articles. Some of my tags may have been mistakes but I learn from them and that's why admins get the last call. Its very rude and disrespectful though for you and others to fill up my wall concerning these CSDs. If you want people to patrol the new page, then you have to expect that they are going to tag alot of things as junk. I'm not angry with you for doing your job, I appreciate it, but at the same time I would like to do my job too. I will try and be a little more conservative so I don't overwhelm the admins but at the same time I'd to be able to patrol the new pages without fear of getting my head ripped off by my admins. Zzaffuto118 (talk) 17:58, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
- It's fair if you were bothered by my comments to you, which were perhaps overly critical of your patrolling work, and I think I ought to have offered a comment more along the lines of what Bryce said here. Sorry about the impression of spamming (and of ripping off your head! good grief!) which was not my intention in the slightest. It's actually been considered courteous, and standard practice, to notify a patroller when a deletion is declined. There's been a lot of concern expressed in the community about new editors being scared away when their work gets incorrectly tagged, so I probably err a little too much on the side of protecting new editors and then scaring (or aggravating) patrollers. Thanks for your efforts to offer some suggestions to new editors; that's great to see. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 22:15, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Frédéric Bégin
When it rains, it pours. Frédéric Bégin is the new name of the article after I moved the old one (Frederic Begin) to it. I removed the orphan tag after adding the third link. The lead I've added refers only to the series as a whole (with a red wikilink); the body has a red wikilink to a slightly different article name. I'm not asking you to create any/all the articles involved; just what is a preferred style? I'm assuming the English article was edited by someone from the French wiki fr:Frédéric Bégin (where differences in guidelines, etc., etc exist). Argolin (talk) 02:07, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I'm following; sorry for my slow reply here. Are you talking about the red links Les Étoiles filantes and Les Étoiles filantes (série télévisée)? I'm not sure I understand your question: one of them refers to the series as a whole and one of them does not? Don't they both refer to the same TV series? Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:33, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- That's OK. Reflecting on the question, I don't think it matters. I don't remove redlinks for films/tv shows as they are generally notable. I was thinking ahead to when the series article finally gets created, one link will be good, the other won't. It'll be up to the next editor to correct how they see fit. As for the article move? Again, I think I'm OK there. When new articles are created with diacritics, you have to set a redirect at the same time. Argolin (talk) 20:44, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
Chad Doucette
Paul, I hope you're acquanted with WP:R. I know that 15 minutes of fame by appearing on realtiy tv does not meet WP:BAND. However, I'm surprised by the redirect of Chad Doucette. I added the tags to the article. I was expecting some sort of discussion at Article alerts? Argolin (talk) 22:42, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
- Usually an editor would merge any sourced content when redirecting an article like that, but in this case it looks as if there was no sourced content to merge to the Idol season article. The redirect can be reverted if sources are discovered that demonstrate that Doucette meets criterion #1. What is it that you think should be discussed? Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 23:24, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
- That's the problem: Process. It must be discussed per WP:BAND (as that was the tag). The edit is effectively a WP:DEL by one editor. There are many trigger happy deletionists out there. You and I have seen articles brought before the WP:DEL process, the most recent Darlings of Chelsea, only to fail as the nominator did not do a proper search for notability. Argolin (talk) 00:06, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
- Ah, okay I think I understand what you mean now. You're suggesting that a discussion be required before redirecting an article and effectively deleting all its content. Sometimes I wish that were so—for the very reasons you're pointing out—but it is not. What WP:DEL#Redirection actually says is, "Sometimes an unsuitable article may have a title that would make a useful redirect. In these cases, deletion is not required; any user can boldly redirect to another article. If the change is disputed, an attempt should be made on the talk page to reach a consensus before restoring the redirect." Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 00:57, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
- ... Looking at this more closely, it's strange how WP:DEL#Redirection contradicts WP:BRD which suggests reverting and then discussing. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 01:15, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Argolin (talk) 00:06, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
WP:BRD is not WP:GUIDELINE (is that relevant?). The Purposes [scope] section of WP:R does not list WP:NOTABILITY or WP:VERIFY. I believe that the "process" at WP:R is a back door to deletion without going through WP:DEL. This process is not an effective deletion: it is deletion of an article. Argolin (talk) 04:22, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
- This reminds me of a time in 2010 when an editor was going through album articles, declaring them "non-notable" without indicating if he had looked for sources, and redirecting them to their artist page. Here is an example, which I noticed months later, reverted it, and then fixed it by clarifying notability and adding multiple sources. Who knows how many other notable ones he redirected that no one noticed. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:39, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
- For unadvertised redirects, you may want to see Category:Redirect-Class Canadian music articles. Many of these musician/band articles remain members under Category:Canadian music. I added them to this redirect category dispite WP:ASTONISH. I don't know what to do with them.
Back to the Chad Doucette redirect. I don't believe that many editors are in compliance with Wikipedia:R#Categorizing redirect pages. All "Disucssion/Talk" pages have categories. For example, any Canadian music article tagged with the Template:WikiProject Canada having parameter set needs-photo=yes will be a member of Category:Canadian music articles needing photographs. With a redirect only on the "main" page, the article (ie the "talk page") will still be a member of the Category:Canadian music articles needing photographs and every other cat on the Discussion page. Argolin (talk) 07:25, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
- I think you're right, that most editors would not think about the talkpage-related categories when they turn an article into a redirect. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 19:56, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

- Hi Mukta Sawant. It might be best to gain some more experiencing editing Wikipedia first. I'm not interested in that particular topic; you should probably try to find someone who has actually added content to Justin Bieber–related articles, such as editor Candyo32 for example. Charts
Hi Paul. You may well be aware of this, but since I just came across it I thought I would make sure by sharing it with you. I was especially interested in it, given our recent discussion of charting in Belgium. See Wikipedia:Record charts. Best.--Epeefleche (talk) 10:57, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

New York City (The Demics song)
Paul, when you have a moment, can you please have a look at the above article? I've quoted William New of Groovy Religion from Chart magazine. They reprinted his quote in the 30 June 2004 from the original 30 June 1996 article. The reprint omitted the final sentence. Is it shown properly? I've meant to create this article for a while. It was one of those wtf things, no wiki article? When I was de-orphanizing it, "Red" is also missing an entry. I'll get to that later. Argolin (talk) 23:23, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, it's about time we had an article on that single. I'd probably just leave off the final sentence of the quote, as I don't think it adds all that much anyway. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:34, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- My thoughts too. However, my position is that if you're going to quote someone do it properly and exactly. With that, I'll leave it in: that's what he said. Argolin (talk) 01:33, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
MSU Interview
Dear Paul Erik,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

WP:NALBUMS and WP:NSONG
Paul, can you help me with these two guidelines? Note 5: "Redirection of such song titles if they are non-notable has thus to be to some other, appropriate target." What does this mean? Mabye inquire at the guideline? Is it a case of why use five words when fifty will do? :)
At one point, I thought songs had to chart to be notable to be incuded in wikipedia. It is bIzzaro to me that a song played on the radio gives notablity to the music group per band# 11, but not to the actual album or track. Same for #2 and #3 WP:BAND. What am I missing? Argolin (talk) 02:04, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
- For most modern-era songs, we merge them or redirect them to the album or the artist article if there is little to say about the song itself. For old songs it might not be so clear what a suitable target is. Redirection of such song titles if they are non-notable has thus to be to some other, appropriate target. If a song is not notable enough for a separate article, and there is no album to redirect to, and no artist to redirect to (perhaps because it was not recorded by any artist, or not just one artist) then another target would be chosen. I can't give you an example because I have not been involved in discussions of any such articles.
- Songs that have charted often get their own articles, but the more important point is whether or not there are multiple reliable sources that discuss the song, regardless of charting. I personally think there is an advantage to having songs as separate articles even if there's not a lot to write about them, but many editors take the position that brief articles about songs that only give information like chart position and credits should not get separate articles and it's better to cover them in album articles or artist articles—so the compromise in WP:NSONG is "articles unlikely ever to grow beyond stubs should be merged to articles about an artist or album." An example: Many editors (unlike me) would take the position that it's better to lengthen the article Neon Bible with the information in No Cars Go, instead of having No Cars Go as a separate article. So it's more a question of where the information goes, rather than a question of having or not having the information. Does that help to clarify? Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:48, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
- That's a yes and no to clarity. One thing is at the project page WP:SONG. I'm sure they're trying to help, but anything other than a redirect to the music notability guideline is confusing. It's a project page not a guideline page. Argolin (talk) 07:20, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
Hey Paul, can you possibly help with the above article? I'm trying to find out the year of disestablishment to add the category to the article. All my usual sources are vauge on the year. No big rush. I have a 500+ list of articles without a year of establishment, and another bigger list without origin. If you'd like to help me (lol) I can give you a letter to do! Thanks as always. Argolin (talk) 01:44, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
- I cleaned it up a little, and added one more reference, but sorry I was not able to find out when they broke up for good. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 21:36, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
- Hey Paul, thanks for your time (again) but they only broke-up once before 1980. My understanding of Template:Infobox_musical_artist#years_active and the related Category:Musical groups by year of reestablishment is that this 1980 category does not apply for The Quid. The group didn't go on tour or release anything new. Therefore the group should have in the infobox years active: 1964-yyyy. The group "came together" for a concert in 1980. I've added Category:1980 in Canadian music to the article instead (when I get to creating the article 1980 in Canadian music, I'll mention the concert). I've read this on wikipedia and can't find it now for you!!! What I'm stating sounds very logical, but means little (imho). Please help. Argolin (talk) 02:26, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
- Are you referring to the "Shakin' All Over' Bands and Fans Reunion" concert mentioned in the Allmusic article? It says it took place in 1987. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 03:18, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

No, I thought there was a guideline on what to put in the infobox and category. The MOS + Template:Infobox musical artist doesn't have anything? Argolin (talk) 04:24, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
- I do recall a discussion (but I can't find it now) that a "one-off" concert or brief reunion does not count as "reestablishment" but it doesn't appear to be written in a guideline as far as I can tell. (Sorry I got confused above about what we were discussing; you kept referring to "1980" but I didn't see anything about a 1980 concert, just a 1987 one.) Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 20:07, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks Paul, I thought I was going crazy. lol Upon reflection, was the discussion at Template:Infobox musical artist and not at the guideline itself? I haven't checked. Argolin (talk) 08:34, 24 March 2012 (UTC)
Colonel's unblock
Thanks for your comment. I feel incredibly uncomfortable undoing another admin's block (and I should probably re-read the wheel warring sections--I hope I haven't fallen foul of it), esp. from an admin whose work as an editor I have always valued. But I do believe in the Colonel's good faith but, worse, that Kevin was just too involved. Anyway, I feel so bad about it that I'm going to do something else for a little while, and if there's a shit storm I'll deal with it after lunch and a dip in the pool. - Sorry I have not had any success with the others. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:18, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
- Is it possible to narrow down the search using things found on their personal websites? For example, Howard Lyon does fine art (mostly religious pieces, it looks like) in addition to his illustration work, which includes Magic the Gathering and World of Warcraft, and he worked as an art director for Blizzard Entertainment and Electronic Arts. Carl Frank has worked freelance and on staff for Alderac Entertainment Group, illustrating Legend of the Five Rings, Clan War, Deadlands:Doomtown, 7th Sea, Warlord and Shadowforce Archer, and his other work includes Magic: The Gathering and Warhammer 40K card games. 99.126.204.164 (talk) 01:24, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- I added every search term you suggested to each of the names in a new set of searches. I was able to add one reference for Lyon (after I checked "Howard Lyon" + "Magic"), but I found nothing for Frank. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:18, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

- 99.126.204.164, thanks for your requests and encouragement about improving all these articles; I do appreciate it. I think at this point, though, I will take a long break from this area, for a few reasons. One is just a feeling that I've done my fair share, in a topic area that I have no particular interest in. Another reason is that I no longer feel as if I am among a small number of editors who have access to offline databases of newspaper articles, as we now have availability of Credo accounts, more HighBeam accounts, and Quesita. Sincere thanks for your friendly encouragement, and also for the work you are doing improving articles. Best regards, Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:44, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

Final thing - I did want to apologize for coming across as a smart-ass in the above comments. I realize that it's impossible for editors like yourself to know the intent (or skill level:) of the writers, and that it's better to always err on the side of caution. While I think that my edit was legit when I entered it (though it could have been worded much better), I understand your actions (and I need to read up on BLP policy). Anyhow, as a frequent wikipedia user, the work of editors like yourself is greatly appreciated. Sorry again!216.183.185.9 (talk) 18:19, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for your messages, and let me apologize for the impersonal templated message on your talk page. If you take a look at the history of the article, you can see why I might have tended to be abrupt with IP editors there. An opinion piece on Yahoo Sports might be reliable for some non-contentious information, but not the type of negative information that was added (and re-added). RE Voicent. We would like to repost our page but follow the rules at the same time.
Sometimes someone in the marketing department can get a little overzealous in their attempts to advertise. This has been brought up in a meeting and we would like to resubmit our company page without the use of advertising. Please let me know (support AT voicent.com) how we can do this with your approval. In the meantime I will begin working on a wiki page as similar to Adobe's in structure. Thank you, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.83.107.2 (talk) 18:50, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hi. For Wikipedia to have an article on Voicent, the company would have to meet the guidelines set out at Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). I've tried looking for sources about the company (not press releases, not the company's own website, but rather news and magazine articles are good). I haven't found much. I should also point you to the guidance at Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations. We'd really prefer if someone unaffiliated with a company write an article about it; it helps maintain our policy of neutrality. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 00:27, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Etsy
Hello, I noted a controversy in Etsy which was removed. I posted it because it was in consumerist and noticed it was not here. I also included a reference. It is now in the Wall Street Journal (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304299304577349731690704306.html). Manny PS- I'm not in ETSY nor an aggrieved consumer, seller nor have any connection with them. I was curious about ETSY and noticed this was not included. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.56.90.157 (talk) 22:13, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Manny. Thanks for letting me know. The Wall Street Journal is a better source for this material for sure. I'm not sure it should be put all by itself in a separate "Controversy" section, though; consider adding it to the "History" section. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 22:23, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi
- I noticed that you removed my CSD notice. Is that ok - I thought that they should be challanged and then discused at Afd if the problem has not been redressed and nominator wishes to persue the ?
- THe article is also written as an advert - a comlaint uncorrected for some years - could it be that this is not an article but just an advert ?
- The CSD notice was not friviouls - the article many year old article is unsourced and not likely to get a sourced ever. You pointed out that this is an important retailer, but how does that make it notable? - how about retailor number 11, 12.. 112 and so on after all they are all just lumber stores? So where do you think we should draw the line?
- Do you recommend that I also use the argument of longevity to demonstrate WP:N at AFD?
- Please advise how to hadle this ?
Thanks BO; talk 19:29, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
- Hello BO. Thanks for the note. I didn't think that it met criteria for speedy deletion, which is only for uncontroversial deletions, "the most obvious cases" as it says at WP:CSD. This is a company that has existed since the 1950s and operates in 30 states [21], and is big enough to have been the title sponsor of a notable golf tournament. I'm not sure where to draw the line, but I would think this would be a matter for AfD rather than for speedy. Certainly the best way to demonstrate WP:N at AfD would be with third-party sources that provide significant coverage of this company. I haven't done a detailed search myself, just a quick one with Google News. If the company is notable, then the parts of the article that are written in a promotional way could be rewritten or removed. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 20:06, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the info - I think I will avoid going to Afd since you are likely correct - I only got due to a vandalism patrol. BO; talk 07:38, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for correcting the error associated with my having closed the AfD for Bisa Williams. Non-admin closes are not predominate with my editing and I most often avoid that practice. - Hi My76Strat. You're welcome. The instruction that you missed, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Administrator instructions#Closing the AfD, was "Add this line at the very top of the page". You didn't put it at the very top. It's definitely a common mistake for people who are not closing AfDs regularly. Best wishes, Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 22:54, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

- Hello Arash. It appears there may be a misunderstanding about what was deleted. Please feel free to continue to develop your user page at User:Arashdeep, which has never been deleted. The page I deleted in 2008 was Arashdeep, which was deleted because it was in encyclopedia space rather than in user space, and did not provide substantive content of an encyclopedia article. Vandal; sockpuppetry
Hi, Paul.
After you blocked User:98.248.10.236, he/she used another IP address to make the same reversion again on the Carousel (musical) page. See this. Note also the COPYVIO that this user did yesterday here (see also this). So I checked out the other edits made by this sock, and I saw this. I recommend that you also block the sock and send whatever explanation you think might help this person understand that we're trying to build a serious encyclopedia here. I hope that we can somehow persuade this person to engage on talk pages. Thanks for your help! -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:17, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Ssilvers. Thanks for investigating. I see that 198.228.216.146 had previously been blocked for block evasion related to a different series of edits, so I gave them a longer block of two weeks. It seems unlikely that 98.248.10.236 is interested in working collaboratively (I hope I'm wrong), and I doubt that me adding to the messages already on their talk page would turn that around. Also I see that another admin has protected the Carousel article for a while. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 05:33, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

cave Painting Bio
Hello Paul,
The Cave Painting bio your concerning yourself with in regard to copyright was written by me and Lewis Jamieson our PR. I am the band's manager (and an ex-journalist & PR) and Lewis was hired by me to work with my band. Therefore there is no copyright infringement. They are mostly my words..... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Keithbourton (talk • contribs) 14:00, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for clarifying, Keith. Unfortunately that text was also much too promotional to be considered a neutral encyclopedia article. Could I point you to Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations and do let me know if you have further questions. Regards, Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 14:12, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
By the way, if you google around enough you'll find dozens of reproductions of my band's bio, perfectly reproduced by lazy journalists. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Keithbourton (talk • contribs) 03:54, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, that was what I had come across at http://www.the-plug.com/events-and-tickets/live/cave-painting-soyo which led to my assumption of a copyright violation. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 03:59, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
Paul - sorry I only just figured out you'd responded to my first message so you can ignore the second. I'm interested that notwithstanding my explanation you came up with a further reason to block the bio. Anyway I will do as you suggest and re-write it but by their nature a short history of a by new band is going to read slightly like a promo. There' s lots of them already on Wikipedia actually. I just think your being a bit pedantic frankly.

Music mystery
I've got a mystery for you, which you may or may not be interested in helping to solve (fine if not, but I thought I'd ask at least.) I recently completed an article about the 1980s one semi-hit wonders Jolly Tambourine Man, during which all of the available sources said that one of the guest musicians on that semi-hit was Caroline Savage of Fifth Column.
I cannot find any evidence that Fifth Column ever had a member named Caroline Savage; sources that are specifically about JTM are the only ones in existence that make the assertion. However, FC did have a member named Caroline Azar, which is where the problem comes in: while the likeliest explanation (or at least the one that satisfies Occam's razor) is that Caroline Azar and Caroline Savage are the same person, under WP:NOR I can't simply presume that without a proper source. But I also cannot find a real source which explicitly states that Caroline Azar was ever known as "Savage", nor any source which links Caroline Azar to Jolly Tambourine Man at all.
Do you have any potential input on this dilemma? Or would you suggest that it's not worth worrying about? Bearcat (talk) 16:45, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
- I'm interested! This weekend I'll do a bit of research myself and see if I can find anything that connects Caroline Azar to Jolly Tambourine Man. (I agree with your take on it, though.) Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 19:25, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

The article The Jones Gang has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. I went to warn User:199.246.38.69 about his politically motivated edits and saw that you had already posted a general warning about original research. One of his edits goes beyond that and misrepresents a newspaper article, though, so I'm wondering if it might be worth providing a more specific warning that explains that politically motivated edits are prohibited. What do you think? CanadianJudoka (talk) 03:57, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

- I added a more specific warning. Another user reverted my attempt to make the IP user's contributions less biased, though, and then removed the paragraph altogether, and now IP guy has added a new version of the paragraph back, which is slightly less biased than the original but still misleading. Any advice on how to deal with this? I don't have any personal stake in it, but I happen to be a professional political scientist, and imprecision like this gets on my nerves. All of the major political parties in Canada endorse a variant of liberal ideology, and the text in that section of the article is specifically about the Liberal Party. CanadianJudoka (talk) 16:28, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
- You make a very good point. (...although I'm not sure if I would consider the Vote Compass issue relevant enough to include at all, to be honest.) I'd give Ckatz a bit more time to respond, as they have barely edited at all today. If the two of you disagree about an aspect of the article, then the next step in the dispute resolution process would likely be a third opinion request. He will be resigning after a new leader is chosen as per, http://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/ontario-premier-dalton-mcguinty-stepping-down-1.996892, but it is repeatedly being changed to incorrect information. Help with a project?
Hey Paul,
I was wondering if you would help me with a small project. On the D&D Wikiproject, we have a number of articles with the {{BLP sources}} template. I have been working with two other editors to get those articles sourced; one of them went about as far as we can with HighBeam, and the other has been getting to it, well, rather slowly. I think we have successfully sourced at least 5 articles so far where we had enough sources to remove the tag without any objections. I removed everything from the list to which you have already added sources, and I was left with 15 articles. Would you like to help out and check these articles for sources in your database? BOZ (talk) 22:24, 19 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hi BOZ and thanks for the request. With regard to sourcing articles, I'm currently occupied with the fallout from this but in a couple of weeks I should have some time, so feel free to remind me. And following my comment here, do let me know if there is an "emergency" case. :) Regards, Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 18:33, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hah, no, not any kind of emergency. Hit me up on my talk page if you are less occupied later and have the time. :) I can just limit requests to one-off pages that are really in need. BOZ (talk) 22:25, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
- Sounds good. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 22:31, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Cast raise dead spell?
Would you mind taking a look at S. John Ross (writer) [22], Paul Hume (game designer) [23], and Jonathan M. Thompson [24] to see if you can find anything for them, if you can get a chance? I came across them after they were already deleted, unforutnately. BOZ (talk) 07:43, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
- These are a bit difficult to search for because their names on their own turn up pages and pages of unrelated hits (of similarly-named people). "S. John Ross" on its own had hundreds of hits, but when combined with "GURPS" turned up nothing. For Paul Hume, I tried his name in combination with "Shadowrun" and "Bushido" and found nothing. For "Jonathan M. Thompson" I found nothing (just a few hits about other people with the same name), but might he be credited under other variations of his name? Let me know if there are some specific combinations you would like me to try. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 18:31, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking; I'll take a look and see if I can come up with something else for these guys. BOZ (talk) 06:06, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- OK, I did a little more digging into these guys. Let me know if this comes up with anything.

Hi, Paul. How about Thomas M. Reid [25] ? BOZ (talk) 16:14, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
- Hi BOZ. There are two book reviews in Science Fiction Chronicle, one for The Emerald Scepter in 2006, and one for Greyhawk: The Temple of Elemental Evil in 2001. There's also an article in the Chicago Sun-Times from 2002 which turns up in a search of "Thomas M. Reid" + "Wizards of the Coast" but I don't have full-text access to that one. (The title is "By any count, he's still pop fiction's King", so it doesn't appear to be primarily about him... probably about Stephen King.) Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 22:30, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
- Hey, good deal, The Emerald Scepter and Greyhawk: The Temple of Elemental Evil are both his books, if you can at least make use of those two reviews. I can put a list together of his other books to add to it. BOZ (talk) 01:42, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
- The references are:
D'Ammassa, Don (September 2006). "The Emerald Scepter", Chronicle 28 (3): 66.
D'Ammassa, Don (September 2001). "Greyhawk: The Temple of Elemental Evil", Science Fiction Chronicle 22 (9): 42–44. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:12, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
- Cool, thanks. If it helps, his other books were “The Gossamer Plain”, “The Fractured Sky”, “The Crystal Mountain”, “The Sapphire Crescent”, “The Ruby Guardian”, and “Insurrection”. BOZ (talk) 15:05, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
- I found nothing additional when searching for his name (and variations of it) in combination with those titles. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:34, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking. I have restored Reid's article and did some work on it; would you mind adding some content from those reviews to The Temple of Elemental Evil (novel) and The Emerald Scepter? BOZ (talk) 15:45, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yes; done. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:00, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
- Gracias, Senor. :) BOZ (talk) 13:03, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
- One more thing - it looks like the review for Scepter might also cover Whisper of Waves by Philip Athans and Midnight's Mask by Paul S. Kemp; if so, would you mind adding a line to those as well? Thanks! BOZ (talk) 16:11, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
- Sure. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 22:33, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

Fictional characters?
Hi Paul,
So far I have mostly bugged you about BLPs (hopefully not too much?) and in the process I realized that your database also has book reviews in it. I'm thinking that at least part of the time, book reviews also contain commentary which would be useful for sourcing articles about fictional characters. In this case, Goldmoon and Raistlin Majere from the Dragonlance books are in dispute, so I was wondering if you can find anything about them? They are both major characters in a popular book series, so I figure there has got to be more on them out there. Can you please take a look? Thanks. BOZ (talk) 00:19, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
- Hi BOZ. I searched "Goldmoon" + "Dragonlance" and found
- "Toonz to produce 'Dragonlance'", Special Correspondent. The Hindu [Chennai] 09 Dec 2006 – but I don't have full-text access to that.
- "QandA with Larry Elmore". Phillips, Casey. McClatchy-Tribune Business News [Washington] 19 Feb 2010. Reprinted from the Chattanooga Times Free Press – This one includes direct quotes from Elmore, discussing such things as Margaret Weis's (very negative) reactions to some of the first paintings of the character, and he later says, "Another thing was that Margaret had always envisioned Goldmoon and Riverwind as Native American with a Celtic touch. Keith [Parkinson] painted them that way very much so, and Margaret liked that."
- Do you think that info would be suitable to include in the article, and if so in what section? Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 01:37, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks! Unfortunately there is edit warring going on with the article Goldmoon at this time, so you won't be able to add anything. Is that first source available somewhere? BOZ (talk) 17:18, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
- Actually, it is. [26] I hadn't bothered to Google the title, as I just assumed it would not be available online. Not much of a discussion of Goldmoon there. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 18:02, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

I found this album review that verifies Blind Guardian wrote a song about Raistlin Majere. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 18:20, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
- That is awesome, thanks. I have requested page protection so that a neutral admin can prevent further disruption; if my request is granted I will let you know. BOZ (talk) 21:50, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
- OK, it looks like the user has stopped edit warring over reverts for the moment to pursue a new merge discussion instead. I added your link to Raistlin; could you add your source to Goldmoon? I am thinking early on in the "Character background" section looks good for what you found. BOZ (talk) 23:16, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, done. Feel free to move it to a different place in the article if you think it fits better elsewhere. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 03:48, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
- Gracias, sir. :) Excellent, as always! BOZ (talk) 04:20, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

More Dragonlance characters
Thank you for your contributions to finding sources for Goldmoon and Raistlin Majere. If you are inclined to helping further on related articles, I have started a new discussion regarding finding sources for the other important characters in the series. If there is any help you can give, please respond there or here. Thanks! BOZ (talk) 17:56, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
- You're welcome! I don't have time today for others, but will take a look over the next few days sometime. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 22:57, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
- Cool, no rush. :) BOZ (talk) 15:31, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- Based on Torchiest's comment, Caramon Majere might be a good place to start. BOZ (talk) 05:06, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
- Cool, no rush. :) BOZ (talk) 15:31, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- Nothing for Caramon. For Tasslehoff Burrfoot, there is one review: Cannon, Peter. "Dragons of a Vanished Moon: The War of Souls Volume Three" Publishers Weekly 249. 19 (May 13, 2002): 56. It has one sentence about him: "Takhisis's most feared foe turns out to be a kender, Tasslehoff Burrfoot, who possesses the Device of Time Journeying, an instrument that could smash all Takhisis's ambitions with a single push of a button."
- For Tanis Half-Elven, also one review with just a little: Cassada, Jackie. "Dragons of the Highlord Skies" Library Journal 132. 11 (Jun 15, 2007): 54. "Highlord Kitiara Uth Matar learns that a former lover, Tanis Half-Elven, is among the small group of heroes that oppose the Highlords and their Dark Queen. As she attempts to prove her loyalty to her superiors by convincing an undead knight to join the dragon armies, Tanis and his companions, including the elf princess Laurana, Kitiara's rival, seek their destiny in the icy fastness of Ice Wall Castle."
- This also says a little about Tanis.
- For Riverwind, all I found was the QandA with Larry Elmore previously mentioned: "Another thing was that Margaret had always envisioned Goldmoon and Riverwind as Native American with a Celtic touch. Keith painted them that way very much so, and Margaret liked that. I think I was the first person to paint Riverwind, and he looked very Native American."
- For Kitiara Uth Matar, there's the above quote from the Library Journal review. Also "Dragons of the Highlord Skies: The Lost Chronicles, Volume Two" Publishers Weekly 254. 20 (May 14, 2007): 28.
- I checked the others you listed as well, but didn't find anything else. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 03:44, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
Hi, Paul, sorry about the delay – I had some other business going on that needed attending to. :)
I have restored Tasslehoff Burrfoot, Tanis Half-Elven, Riverwind, and Kitiara uth Matar; would you mind adding the sources you found to those articles? We will try to find more for each of those characters.
Also, could you add something from the Dragons of a Vanished Moon review to The War of Souls, and also something from the Dragons of the Highlord Skies review to its article?
Where do I find the Larry Elmore Q and A that you mention? BOZ (talk) 20:38, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- It's currently reference #6 in the Goldmoon article. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 20:44, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- Actually the whole article is reprinted here; not sure why I had not come across that earlier. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 20:48, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- Oh thanks, I see what you mean! Good to have that link too, I will add it to both articles. :) Add those sources when you have the time – there are a lot, which is good for the articles, although time consuming. ;) BOZ (talk) 21:17, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for what you've gotten so far. :) I added one review to Dragons of the Highlord Skies based on your suggestion; could you "check my work" and make sure I got it right? BOZ (talk) 23:16, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, that looks fine to me. I'm not sure why the website does not include minor details such as who wrote the review! (It was Peter Cannon.) I'll go ahead and add that. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 23:25, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
- And we could do similar teamwork if you use this for the Dragons of a Vanished Moon-related articles. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 23:33, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
- And this for the Tanis and Kitiara articles. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 23:36, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
- OK, I checked over the other items you listed above, and it looks like if you get the stuff for Tanis we'll be good to go with these characters, and if you could add some reviews to the book articles that would also be swell. :) BOZ (talk) 23:41, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
- Great! Is there anything good for Dragons of the Highlord Skies in the Library Journal article? BOZ (talk) 00:44, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
- Actually the whole article is reprinted here; not sure why I had not come across that earlier. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 20:48, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- As I said, you can check for yourself as it is reprinted here. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 00:48, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
- Geez - I completely missed a couple of your responses above, sorry about that; I went and added notes from the reviews, and the links you found, to both book articles. OK, thank you extremely much, you have been a great help as always. :) BOZ (talk) 00:59, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
