Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 backlog elimination drive report

GOCE September 2011 Backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We would like to thank all who participated in this drive. Here is the end-of-drive report.

Participation

There were 58 editors who signed-up for this drive, of which 42 participated. This is a slight increase from the July 2011 drive participation, where 39 out of 50 people that signed up participated. Thank you to everyone!

Progress report

During the drive, we reduced the backlog by 146 articles, or by about 4%. Overall we did well, especially considering the exceptionally large number of articles that were tagged during September. Thus far we have reduced the copy edit backlog by 4854 articles, or by about 58%. If we keep up our current rate of copy editing, the backlog should be reduced by 65–70% by the end of this year. End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here. Barnstars will be handed out this week.

Once again, thank you for participating in the Guild's September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Our next drive will be in November, and we hope to see you there!

Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their November 2011 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on November 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on November 30 at 23:59 (UTC). We will be tracking the number of 2010 articles (and specifically will be targeting the oldest three months), as we want to copy edit as many of these as possible. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 5 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02, and SMasters.

Actually, it is right. All elements up to Cf (possibly also Es, but that is uncertain) are known to occur naturally. Double sharp (talk) 11:58, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Vote for a flagship article

[edit]

Hello. You haven't yet voted for a flagship article for WP:ELEM. If you want to vote, please do so before the end of March. Thank you, Double sharp (talk) 12:36, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GAN of antimony

[edit]

User:Double sharp recommended that I get you to look over the antimony article on wikipedia; he said you would do a very thorough review of criterion 1A. Would you be willing to do this? StringTheory11 02:42, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've finished fixing all the points you've mentioned. Double sharp (talk) 12:47, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Compounds of berkelium GA review

Hello. I've addressed your remaining concerns for 1a and 1b. Double sharp (talk) 07:50, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Transperiodic highway"

[edit]

We just need polonium to become a GA (it's now at B+) and the transperiodic highway will be complete. Double sharp (talk) 05:14, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Origin and usage of the term metalloid or Arsenic

[edit]

Would you mind GA reviewing one of these articles? They have been sitting unreviewed for quite some time now. It would really help WP:ELEM if you reviewed one. StringTheory11 03:05, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yellow, blue?

[edit]

[1] Why did yo change yellow-C into blue-FA without even an explaining es? -DePiep (talk)

I am red-green colour blind, and the green (B) and yellow (C) used for the article quality scale look too similar; I have to strain my eyes a bit to distinguish between them. I changed the yellow to blue to make it easier to tell the "to do" articles apart from the completely fixed ones. Princess Parcly Taxel 02:26, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Fine & fair. Me too. Realy this heavy? Please use es. It is a talk thing anyway, not an article. But hey, I've met a lot of color discussions, especially with wp:elements. We'll meet again. -DePiep (talk) 20:52, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Something is wrong in our cooperation. I think I was fair earlier, on topic then. How about you? -DePiep (talk) 22:39, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting good names

[edit]

Please do not delete correct author names like you did in boron. Names not shown are still read by external data machines like COinS. Please restore them. -DePiep (talk) 09:05, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre

[edit]
Hello! Now, some of you might have already received a similar message a little while ago regarding the Recruitment Centre, so if you have, there is no need to read the rest of this. This message is directed to users who have reviewed between 12-14 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the initial messages I sent out went to only WikiProject members and users that had over 15 reviews).

So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:

  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. Now, one of the most important criteria is that you have at least 15 independent reviews. If you are reading this, you are likely 3 (or less) reviews short, so if you review another couple nominations, you can become a recruiter! If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".

NOTE: If you are interested in becoming a recruiter but do not meet the 15 review requirement, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters and put your status as "Not Available" until you have reviewed enough nominations.

  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

Million Award

[edit]
The Million Award
For your contributions to bring Copper (estimated annual readership: 1,652,000) to Good Article status, I hereby present you the Million Award. Congratulations on this rare accomplishment, and thanks for all you do for Wikipedia's readers. -- Khazar2 (talk) 14:55, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Million Award is a new initiative to recognize the editors of Wikipedia's most-read content; you can read more about the award and its possible tiers (Quarter Million Award, Half Million Award, and Million Award) at Wikipedia:Million Award. You're also welcome to display this userbox:

This editor won the Million Award for bringing Copper to Good Article status.

If I've made any error in this listing, please don't hesitate to correct it; if for any reason you don't feel you deserve it, please don't hesitate to remove it; if you know of any other editor who merits one of these awards, please don't hesitate to give it; if you yourself deserve another award from any of the three tiers, please don't hesitate to take it! Cheers, -- Khazar2 (talk) 14:55, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

those hidden Easter eggs

This (reference 23) may seem funny, but it's not to everyone. (And it's hard to hunt through and find them.) Could I ask you to not do it? Double sharp (talk) 17:15, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Metalloid

[edit]

I noticed all your recent edits to the article on Metalloid. Because I know they were all done in a sincere effort to improve the article, and because you have been editing in Wikipedia for a while, I will not undo them all in one wholesale revert. However, in the future, your fellow editors would appreciate it if you would make just a few edits at a time, then save them before proceeding to the next section. This way, if another editor feels that one or two edits need to be undone, this can be done without undoing all the rest. I'm not going to change any of your edits; I'm leaving the reviewing to another editor. Best regards, CorinneSD (talk) 23:58, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Parcly Taxel. Your input is requested at the end of metalloid FAC thank you. Sandbh (talk) 08:48, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Fluorine, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Paraffin (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Take more care

[edit]

This edit re editor Double sharp may be crossing a line. "I know where you're coming from" can be read as a threat, and as a non-constructive attitude. Of course I could misunderstand you (recently I wrote about the angle of your writing, re me), but maybe that's another reason to change the tone of your music. On a minor level, but just a bit minor and still seriously, I note that you are talking for another editor (Nergaal). AFAIK, that editor is fully able to talk & sign themselves. -DePiep (talk) 23:44, 24 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Come on, don't hurry, FAC is not a very fast procedure

[edit]

But an FAC is also not a process which will be forgotten for too long (now you certainly know FAC coordinators exist). We should be able to make it.--R8R (talk) 01:06, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@R8R Gtrs: there have been no promotions or archivals in the last 3 days. An empirical observation from me – are they having a break or what? Parcly Taxel 01:13, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Three days isn't a too long period. A week, yes, that would be different. But there are only three coordinators, and Wikipedia is not their full-time job they get money for, and they may be having issues IRL, or they may want to make a short rest for a few days, or anything. Be slightly more patient. Three days more, three days less. That's not too bad. Again, a week, yes, that's when you should be conspicuous. But I'll tell you what, a FAC lasting a month is okay. I am slightly surprised we possibly can finish earlier.--R8R (talk) 01:27, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

When you get a chance...

[edit]

I've been intermittently following some of the discussions at WPELEM, and was glad to see that you returned. Formalities aside, whenever you get a chance, would you be willing to perform a GA review for Serpens, which has now been stuck at GAN for over a month? I would greatly appreciate it, but if you don't want to, that's fine too. StringTheory11 (t • c) 03:43, 7 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
