Welcome to my talk page!

[edit]

Remember, be polite, and please enjoy yourselves!

I have spent the last few months in and out of hospital, so I have been rather neglectful of my Wikipedian duties. However, if you still have a message for me after my prolonged gap, please let me know! I will be taking things rather slowly at first, so if I don't get back to you here, try my alternative account. If I still don't get back to you, try another administrator who will be more than happy to help!

Enjoy and remember to keep smiling!

Page deletion

[edit]

[1] You deleted this page with an edit summary "to make room for an uncontroversial page move". The allegedly "uncontroversial" page move was not advertised on the talk page of the article. Please explain how you concluded that such page move was "uncontroversial"? Gimmetoo (talk) 00:53, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there! You've got me, I didn't check to see if it was mentioned on the talk page, so for that you have my apologies. However, before I would be inclined to restore the page, I would mention that this is part of a wider issue of Vietanese articles being moved to reflect more common usage of the dialect. This was decided here. I know that's not good etiquette on the part of the person requesting the move, but would you agree that the deletion should stand? PanydThe muffin is not subtle 09:48, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't agree with the page move(s), since the proposed moves were discussed at one page and not advertised at most of the pages that have been moved. Gimmetoo (talk) 01:23, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Given that the page moves were part of a discussion and that the decision to move was made with community consensus, I would ask that you please speak to the administrator who closed the discussion. If they agree that the deletion should not stand, I will happily restore the page (or they can, I don't mind). Hope that's ok with you. PanydThe muffin is not subtle 14:56, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Since the "discussion" was not advertised at the affected pages, it did not involve the "community". Do you not see that? Gimmetoo (talk) 16:29, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No, I suppose I don't. Like I said, I would ask that you speak to the closing administrator about it first. I would rather they answered that question than I. PanydThe muffin is not subtle 16:34, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DYK Review

[edit]

Hi, you recently reviewed the proposed DYK for Monarch Contemporary Art Center and Sculpture Park, and you weren't sure about the hook. I've created a new version, so if you are interested in taking a look at it, you are more than welcome to! Thanks! Rising*From*Ashes (talk) 06:01, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DYK on Dougie dance

FYI, pls see Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Friday.2C July 29.2C spot the issues. SandyGeorgia (Talk)

I find you very abrasive. Which is not to say that that's not a screw-up, or that you're not assuming good faith, I just am never sure how to respond...
Anyway, I'm new at the admin DYK bit and I think I can take your abrasiveness as an education in itself. I was under the impression that in the context it wasn't trivia and that as it is backed up by reliable sources it is absolutely fine (and TIME magazine is usually reliable). Evidently not. *buttons lip, goes away to try again another day* PanydThe muffin is not subtle 20:50, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DYK Queues

[edit]

My dear colleague at DYK, I don't know where everyone is. Maybe the summer weather is extra-nice these days and all the other admins have gone outside to play.... (Or spending too much time on Talk:MainPage or WT:DYK debating....) Anyway, since you asked, here are a couple of ideas regarding DYK queues:

  1. Pls sign with ~~~ instead of ~~~~ in {{DYKbotdo}} at the top of each DYKQ. Otherwise, the DYK bot will post the DYK credits on your behalf with a second time-stamp. You don't want your signature next to two time-stamps with different times and dates. (example)
  2. Please check set length. Wordy hooks and brief hooks don't take up the same amount of space on MainPage. We should preview to make sure the sets on DYKQ to appear on MainPage on the same day occupy roughly the same space. Otherwise, we would be forcing admins in other sections on MainPage do extra work just to avoid messing up the layout. We don't want a short set of hooks with blank space underneath in the morning, and a long set of hooks with blank space under the anniversaries in the afternoon.

Hope this helps. Happy editing. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 04:28, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely helps! Thank you! PanydThe muffin is not subtle 16:25, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Haunted and mobile real estate

[edit]

Hi Panyd. A couple of weeks ago you relocated a haunted house, and now the restless spirits want to move it back. I don't know what to make of it, so I just relisted the discussion at Talk:25 Berkeley Square#Requested move. There hasn't been much input so far, and yours is welcome. Regards, Favonian (talk) 17:40, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If someone has just been there and it still says 50 on the door, I've no problems with moving it back. Common sense trumps verifiability in this case methinks. Thanks for letting me know though! PanydThe muffin is not subtle 17:43, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Commendable attitude :) Another admin closed the discussion 12 minutes after I relisted it. Another common-senser, I guess. I'll slink off to a corner and push some papers before I wrap them in red tape. Cheers! Favonian (talk) 17:48, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, could I have a little more explanation please? PanydThe muffin is not subtle 02:18, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I declined the speedy deletion of these files because F10 requires that the files in question not be sound, video, or image files, and these were pictures. Additionally, these flower pictures would have encyclopedic use, though it would be better if a botanist identified them and they were moved to better names. Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 02:27, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome. Thank you. I disagree that someone is going to come along and identify them but hey ho! PanydThe muffin is not subtle 02:31, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Schizophrenia

You admitting that you have schizophrenia has encouraged me to admit on my user page that I have Asperger Syndrome. Blocking of I h8 u wiki

[edit]

I reported this user to the UAA but it was rejected. Does this mean that I was right to report them? Puffin Let's talk! 13:54, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Different administrators have different opinions about the interpretation of username policy, and someone may have thought that the username didn't require immediate attention as it wasn't clearly inappropriate (e.g. I will kill you rather than I h8 u wiki). I think you were right to report it as a username requiring a look-see but if another administrator disagrees with my block I would be more than happy to reconsider. Will do that. Good to see your reply. Thanks and best regards. Wifione ....... Leave a message 04:18, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I notice that you blocked this editor based on username presumably because it contains the word "gay" in it. Gaylord is given name, and it seems quite harsh to indefinitely block people just because they have that first name, especially in the absence of any kind of disruptive editing. I think this should be considered a legitimate username. Would you please reconsider this block? -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:02, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You'll notice it was only a soft-block, so they would have been perfectly welcome to make another account, but you're right. Hadn't considered that Gaylord could be a first name and their edits don't suggest they're a troll. Thanks for calling me out on that one :) PanydThe muffin is not subtle 12:07, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Guess you never heard of Gaylord Perry, one of baseball's most infamous spitters? You did the right thing by reverting the block.   ArcAngel   (talk) ) 14:29, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Perhaps I'm missing something, but I can't see how User:TamilFilmsUpdate is an unsuitable user name; it's not a company or anything, and he's updating Tamil films. --jpgordon::==( o ) 18:47, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is a tricky one I'll admit and I'd be more than happy for someone else to review my decision and find that I'm wrong - but looking through their history and the comments from other editors, they appear to be adding in links which don't necessarily add to or support anything written in the article, which leads me to believe that they are adding them for commercial purposes. Although the name doesn't directly represent a company, that it leans towards the commercial is worrying in light of the links they have been adding. Does that make sense? Like I said, could be a lapse in judgement on my part but that was how I saw it at the time. PanydThe muffin is not subtle 10:15, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You put a spamusername block onTamilFilmsUpdate. The editor is now requesting an unblock, and offering to change username. JamesBWatson (talk) 12:45, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, as I said above, they seemed promotional to me but I'm more than happy for someone to tell me I'm wrong. Unblock away! PanydThe muffin is not subtle 13:05, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GGD quote for Signpost

[edit]

Hi Panyd,

Sorry for not responding quickly to admin coaching. I started a new job on Thursday and due to spending all day in front of a computer monitor for work, I haven't been so active on Wikipedia other than occasionally hitting 'Mark as patrolled' at NewPages.

I'm writing up the Bristol GGD event for Signpost this week: from what I've read it went very well. I'm wondering if you'd be interested in answering a few questions about it. If you can't, no problem, but if you are interested, the sooner the better as the publication deadline is tonight. I'll be on IRC but may not respond immediately as I'll be at work. I'm also trying to get freely licensed pictures and will be contacting the person who did the photographs on Flickr asking if they can release them under CC BY/BY-SA. Have you got any preference about whether Signpost uses an image of you or of that yummy-looking cake?

Thanks. —Tom Morris (talk) 07:21, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Editing a Page - For Debby Ryan (Disney's "Jessie")

[edit]

Hello!

I just got off the phone with you (and, by the way, thank you SO much for being incredibly helpful!) - I would love to be able to edit a few items on the Debby Ryan Wikipedia profile before her show airs later this month. I need to make some corrections in her Biography as well as her Personal Life section - all at her personal request. If there is anything you can do so that I can make these changes, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iitzjacky (talkcontribs) 22:06, 2 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there! Before I do that, could you please add the section I asked to your userpage stating who you are and your conflict of interest? After that's done I'll be more than happy to help. In fact, if you need help doing that, I'll be more than happy to help :p PanydThe muffin is not subtle 22:27, 2 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how to reply to you on here, but I'm hoping this works! Help would be appreciated! Do I just write my name and employer to my userpage? I'm a little confused - I also don't know what I'm supposed to write for a conflict of interest - I just read through the COI page but I found myself even more confused... so sorry! I'm new to all of this editing / wikipedia stuff! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iitzjacky (talkcontribs) 23:10, 2 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine, sorry I'm not replying until today. Well done on getting here! Just open the page, click edit, and introduce yourself truthfully. No special mark-up or anything, you just type. That's all it means! That way when other editors interact with you they know who you are. Which in this case can only help. PanydThe muffin is not subtle 11:04, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Guide particularly intended for new editors

[edit]

One thing that came up on Sunday was the suggestion given to me that new editors might be directed towards conversion of Dictionary of National Biography text as a way in to creating articles (i.e. starting from existing material). Hello Panyd. As for this edit, please note that the article is a biography of a living person and should not remain unreferenced. Check also the history of the article. I've removed the first speedy tag and replaced with prod, another editor later changed it to another speedy nomination. The article has in my opinion a little chance to survive, I just wanted to give a new editor a chance to exand or defend their creations. Best regards. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 14:13, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, normal procedure is BLP PROD for unreferenced BLPs, but then I'm sure you're aware of that seeing as you put the PROD up. Feel free to AfD it! It is just my opinion that that is not an A7 candidate. PanydThe muffin is not subtle 14:15, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I see. It is a part of the series of articles created yesterday/today by Ghfkghdkfhsk (talk · contribs). Most of their creations have been already deleted. I'll take it to AfD with my initial prod rationale. We'll see. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 14:28, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, in case you didn't know (if you did, my apologies!) BLP PROD is only for those unsourced BLP's that were created after March 18, 2010.   ArcAngel   (talk) ) 16:12, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I know about the difference between BLP PROD (+ the date:)) and simple PROD nomination, but I don't think I'm obliged to use BLP PROD when prodding a BLP. I prefer giving a proper rationale in my deletion nominations rather than pasting an automated template.
