- Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
- Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
- In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>
, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References== {{Reflist}}

Important information
[edit]This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.
You have shown interest in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.
For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 06:08, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm Fowler&fowler. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Himalayas have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse. I did not notice that you had added your edit to the infobox. Only the major dispute is notable for the lead or the infobox. I have now added three major tertiary sources. You may add your claim supported by reliable sources to the geography section in a brief sentence or in a footnote. Best, Fowler&fowler«Talk» 17:48, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
- Please enlighten me about what constitutes as a major and a minor dispute, and please also point me to where consensus about the categorisation of Kashmir, Arunachal, Kalapani, Doklam etc into major and minor has been achieved on wikipedia. Please do not revert my edits for the sole reason that in your personal point of view one dispute (of the ones mentioned) is major while all others are minor. Thank you. - Please read WP:INFOBOXPURPOSE. The purpose is to "summarize (and not supplant) key facts that appear in the article." As for Kashmir, it is a major international dispute; it is the oldest before the United Nations, first appearing in early 1948. The others are not recognized so, by a consensus in scholarship Wikipedia's touchstone for a statement's worth. Please see WP:SOURCETYPES. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 21:11, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
- Please also read WP:TERTIARY, which states, "Many introductory undergraduate-level textbooks are regarded as tertiary sources because they sum up multiple secondary sources. Policy: Reliable tertiary sources can be helpful in providing broad summaries of topics that involve many primary and secondary sources, and may be helpful in evaluating due weight.
- I have just noticed you have added the other disputes to the lead; I asked you to add them to the "geography section." Please move them. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 21:24, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

Please seek consensus on the talk page for the removal/moving of the disputes from the lead. Please do not address me with “I asked you to do X, do X”. I am not anyone’s slave. The article is not anyone’s personal property. I have provided the citations, including tertiary source for at least one of the disputes, and can provide tertiary source for another one.
