[edit]Hello, Panais24
Thank you for creating Pointe de Givet National Nature Reserve.
User:Nick Moyes, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:
This was a terrible copy/paste of a WP:MACHINETRANSLATION from Réserve naturelle nationale de la pointe de Givet on fr-wiki. It needs further cleanup, citations and wikilinks.

- Just to follow up: Please do not create another article in this way without putting in the time and effort to check the quality of Google translation afterwards. See WP:MACHINETRANSLATION as to why this is not acceptable. I would regard any site that falls into a Natura 2000 category (including this category to be notable, but the standard of its content should not casue hilarity to the reader. If in doubt, cut it out if you don't understand what it means! eg
"In the absence of large wild herbivorous mammals, the tendency of the environments is to brush the open areas."
- Now, I really don't want to discourage you, as we need editors working in natural environment and alpine areas - two great interests of mine. So, if you have dificulty, please get in touch or ask at the Teahouse. You might like to learn how to use inter-language wikilinks, too. See Template:Interlanguage link. Best wishes, Nick Moyes (talk) 12:30, 24 January 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for the precision, I was trying to locate the section you were refering to. I have already submitted another draft, I will go check its language.

- OK - no worries. I really want to come across as helpful, not critical here. Oh, and you don't actually put the code/nowiki bits in to ping me - just the bit between and including the curly brackets and the four keyboard tilde characters. You'll soon get the hang of it - then, hoping you stick around, you can take great joy in telling other people how to do it! Best, Nick Moyes (talk) 12:46, 24 January 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, Panais24,
Thank you for creating Vireux-Molhain National Nature Reserve.
I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:
This is mostly a direct machine translation and uses clumsy English, florid terms and peacock words like 'remarkable'. Please now work through this and remove/reword all the sentences which read clumsily. I have placed an attribution to the fr.wiki article on the Talk page and in a dummy edit to the article. Please remember this in future.
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Nick Moyes}}

@Nick Moyes: Hello Nick Moyes,
I have tried to improve the page but I am uncertain about how to do so despite reading the guidelines. I run Grammarly as suggested and tried to do some copy editing but I am not certain how much is needed. Could you please have a look to see if I managed to do some improvement?
I am a bit confused about the lake of references: there seem to be enough references on the French version of the page but that is not sufficient in English?
I saw that you changed the not yet created wikilink from "national nature reserve" to "réserve naturelle nationale [fr]". There is currently a draft on "National Nature Reserve (France)" submitted for acceptance. If it get accepted, it might be more suitable.
Thank you for your help! Panais24 (talk) 16:24, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
- First off, yes, as soon as you get the draft accepted, do change the
{{ill}}
link. I mainly used it just to demonstrate to a clearly committed new editor that it is possible to show both a red link here, and a blue link to another wiki. You probably know that NNR (National Nature Reserve) is a uk designation for some Natura 2000 sites, so it's helpful not to confuse the two. But no big deal. But where it will come into its own is in your Draft list of French NNRs - it's make it so much better. - Next, yes, each language wikipedia has its own rules and guidelines. Regarding 'lack of references': If I see a large paragraph of text without a single supporting citation, I conclude it's either just waffle and needs to go or, more likely, that it needs a supporting reference. If I see a lot of unsupported statements, I mark the article as needing improvement. As the article creator, you are best placed to do that, though it is not obligatory. But it is the sign of a darned good Wikipedian! Are you French, or do your read French, out of interest? It's important not just to trust what's on one website and convert it into another language wikipedia. If you really want to do your job well, it's necessary to check each source out.
- Regarding Grammarly (I've seen the ads - never used it) and copy editing, the key thing always to remember is that we're writing a succinct factual encyclopaedia, using a neutral tone of voice. If you read anything out aloud and it sounds chatty, or cumbersome to get your mouth around, it probably still needs some work. I haven't looked at your changes, yet, but will do so and pop back later, as I would like to help and guide you a best as I can. There are very few people working in this area, so you have a real chance to make a great contribution. If I can help you be your best, then I've done my job, too. Give a man a fish, you feed them for a day; teach a man to fish and you've fed them forever. Or woman, of course. Cheers for now. Nick Moyes (talk) 17:08, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
- Right, I've now had a read through your copyedits and have made a few more myself. I think the page reads a lot better now. Still a few uncited statements, but I can cope without those. My biggest concern is the mention of metamorphic rocks which I have disputed on the talk page. Hopefully you might be able to clarify this. If you can't, I suggest just deleting all mention of metamorphism until such time as a source can be found. All the best, Nick Moyes (talk) 23:35, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
Hello Nick Moyes, To answer your previous question, I am French. I did remove the mention of metaphoric rocks as I have no access to the source to check it and could not find further references. From the definitions of metaphoric rocks and shale, you are right, they do not seem compatible. Thank you again, --Panais24 (talk) 21:36, 28 January 2020 (UTC)

[edit]I assume most of all these reserves have article in the french wp. For thosethat do, make a link, in the form of [[:fr:Reserve XYZ]], which will give the link and indicate that it isn't in English. DGG ( talk ) 04:48, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
