Template indentation
User talk:Reddi#United States topics template to discuss Template:United States topics and the indentation problem it has.

NRM disussion continues.
PE, your continued input with the NRM topic would be appreciated. I realize you've been busy but your assistance is needed for making a consesus. Please visit the page at your leisure. Sirvice626 (talk) 22:40, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- Oddly enough, Sirvice626, I was watching my Watchlist and caught your most recent edit there. I was reading it as your message above came in. A response is forthcoming.

Thanks P.E. Measles has started a new sub discussion. You may want to take a look. Sirvice626 (talk) 22:57, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
Once again, I like your efforts. The original version by Measles (that you've now rewritten) seemed to me to distort the connection between NRM and cult. What you have presented with the use of a period clears up my concerns. Thank you. I like the way you write. Sirvice626 (talk) 00:59, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you so much, Sirvice626,! You are too kind.

Charmed Companions
Has now been moved to your userspace, here. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:33, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- I had a look at your sandbox version. I would suggest reducing the use of color and placing it in its own section, say "timeline", near the end of the article. Since it no longer sits next to the {{Charmed}} template, it doesn't need to use the same color scheme. Just my opinion. Best regards. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:37, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you, Plastikspork, for letting me know and for your advice!

Question
Did I notice your having added a navbox addition that allowed multiple navboxes at the bottom of articles to be closed? I can't find how to do this and I'm noticing a lot of prominent actor articles which multiple award navboxes that would be greatly benefitted with a close option. Thanks. Wildhartlivie (talk) 04:25, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hiya Wildhartlivie! I was wondering how you might think of something like this. I didn't approach you because I suppose I thought that those articles were actually benefited by several visible and multi-colored Navbars. However, I agree that it's not so "encyclopedic".
- There are some individual Navbars that will stay uncollapsed if they are the only Navbar on the page. There is usually a way to collapse these by adding a "state=collapsed" parameter. When several Navbars are involved, I use the "Template group" Navbar...

- When you want to include Succession boxes, the procedure is shown on the Template:Navboxes page in the "Succession boxes" section. Is this what you're looking for?
- — .`^) Paine Ellsworthdiss`cuss (^`. 04:41, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- You know, I thought I'd left a response here, until I looked and realized I had not done that. I am SORRY, I had no intention of not saying thanks. The night you left this, I had a sudden and unexpected browser crash and apparently forgot. I'm not thrilled with all of the navbox crowding and think this is a much better way to tame the best. In actor articles, should you ever come across it, there should no longer be succession boxes for awards. You may see the occasional "Sexiest man" or host of something box, but if you come across any that are succession boxes for awards, WP:ACTOR decided to deprecate their use, so don't hesitate to remove them, and cite "per WP:ACTOR". We are also moving on removing nav templates for actor filmographies, so if you come across any of those, please let me know. I'll nominated them for deletion. The only practical use for actor filmography templates would be on the film pages and the sheer number that some film articles would have if we allow the templates would needlessly overwhelm the film article. I have a post at WT:ACTOR about adapting this as a formal guideline for the project, if you want to see the rationale. Thanks for letting me know about the template tamer (heh). I've been grouping the awards templates into them and calling it "Awards won by John Doe". Cheers! Wildhartlivie (talk) 09:02, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- Not a problem; don't give it a second thought, Wildhartlivie. Just after I posted my response to you, I went back to my watchlist to check on vandals. And I watched as you "went to town" on all of those entertainment articles. Great job!

Preamble to the Constitution
Hi, I reverted your edit to the text since the US National Archives transcript states that the "O" is capitalized.--Terrillja talk 11:51, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, Terrillja, your reversion is understandable under the circumstances and, for the moment, I will comply. I still do consider the word "order" to be uncapitalized, and have sent a message to the archival website managers. I left more detail on the Preamble . . ./text talk page. I'll let you know how that communication turns out.

Capitalizing in the Preamble
I learned the Preamble to the United States Constitution by heart back in the fifth grade. And I can still recite it. Strange... how some things seem to stay with you forever.
Anyway, both the above article and the National Archives show the "o" in the word "order" as capitalized. In my opinion, when one looks closely at the original penned document, the "o" in "order" is not capitalized. Take a look for yourself, and tell me how you feel about this. Here's the discussion, and here's the Preamble... Preamble to the United States Constitution/text

[Show]/[Hide] links
I've copied Template:Collapsible list to my sandbox, here, and I'll probably use the same personal testcases page that I used to resolve the Coord templage challenge to troubleshoot this one. Gettin' a little tired now, so takin' a break.
— .`^) Paine Ellsworthdiss`cuss (^`. 17:06, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Fixed it! and left the following note on the {{editprotected}} talk page of the Collapsible list template:
I have created a sandbox and testcases page for this template to illustrate the [Show]/[Hide] overhang outside the right edges of all the infoboxes that use this template. (See toward the bottom in the "Codes" section.) I'm not sure about other browsers; however, my IE7 shows this overhang in all nine skins. You'll note that the Infobox on the left is actually called from my personal sandbox, which is where I call the sandbox version of this template.
When the width near the top of the code is changed from 100% to 96%, this gives the best rendition of the [Show]/[Hide] link and brings the right end of the link within the edges of the Infoboxes. I'm interested to know how the testcases appear in other browsers. If the appearance of the left-side testcase is okay in other browsers, then I'd like for an admin to change this width to 96%. If the testcase does not look good in Firefox, etc., then perhaps a lesser or greater percentage should be used. At any rate, the width really should be reduced so that the [Show]/[Hide] link does not overhang outside Infoboxes in IE7.

I haven't used it in about a week. I do go looking for redirects on a page to fix, but while there I figure I might as well make some fixes to the page too (I don't go looking just to fix redirects). I will be honest those, I think that ridiculous guideline needs to be eliminated. Even though it's just a guideline (not a policy), some particular editors are anal about it and the guideline is doing more harm than good. Fixing redirects more often than not helps a article and users. There are some exceptions, but most of the time it is helpful to fix redirects. TJ Spyke 14:06, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
- I disagree. There is very little harm in redirects, and they can stop readers from scratching their heads and wondering why they landed on a page they weren't expecting. I can understand wanting to fix a dab link, but I must ask you to follow the guideline and stop fixing redirects with the bot. It makes you and the bot look "anal".
- — .`^) Paine Ellsworthdiss`cuss (^`. 06:45, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
- PS. Since the automatic edit summary of the bot says "repaired disambiguation links" and sometimes all that is done is to "repair" redirects, this is in effect misleading readers in the edit summary, and it makes me wonder if this isn't a case of using a bot for something it has not been approved for?
- Just to show you that I agree there are some times when "fixing" Redirects is the right thing to do, I fixed one today in a template, because the page about a town in India was not highlighted (bolded and unlinked) on the template (due to the Redirect). So yes, TJ, there are times when it's appropriate... just not all the time.
- — .`^) Paine Ellsworthdiss`cuss (^`. 00:12, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- PS. So while Redirects in article namespace are really no big deal, templates are a good place to "fix" Redirects. In case you're interested, it was the Template:World's most populous urban areas where I fixed the Redirect (#43).

Flag borders
Ref.: Template talk:Infobox Country#Flag borders
Noted in the Japan article is the indistinct border of Japan's flag in the infobox. Basically, what I see is a large red dot where a flag image is expected to be. Then I look closer and I can just barely make out the border of the flag.
See also: South Korea – Indonesia – Russia
I'm unable to find any parameter that would give the flag a distinct border. This could be done by including an all-covering border=1 parameter and value, or by just including the "border" parameter as an option that can be adjusted in the individual articles. This affects all flags that have a white background. Options and suggestions, please?
— .`^) Paine Ellsworthdiss`cuss (^`. 08:09, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
- The template background is a light gray (not white) and there is already a darker gray border done using the "border" option of Wikipedia:Extended image syntax. Changing the color of the existing border would not be easy. I have no problem seeing the border of the flag. Is your monitor calibrated correctly? There are some calibration images at Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates#Is my monitor calibrated correctly?. If there were a parameter to add another border, it's not obvious to me that this wouldn't look like the border was part of the flag. Possibly the background color of the table (maybe just the row with the flag and seal images) could be adjustable, but if we do this I think the template should offer a limited set of options (e.g. something like 3 different shades of gray) rather than a "background-color" option specifying an arbitrary RGB value. -- Rick Block (talk) 15:28, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you, Rick! No matter what I try, I can only see 2 of the 4 circles in this image when I look at my flatscreen straight-on. If I go about 45 degrees left or right, then I begin to see a third circle, however that little trick doesn't help when I try to view the flag borders. Thank you so much for the color references!

Any bright ideas, anyone? Peter jackson (talk) 11:45, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
- While "organization" enjoys a wide variation of levels of meaning, in a religious context an organization can, in my opinion, mean anything from the huge "church of _______" to a single person in prayer for their friends, family, others. An organization is, in effect, whatever may generate a gestalt, i.e., a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.

- I agree. It is an automated message from the Urdu Wikipedia telling you that have a new message on your talk page there. You must've enabled unified login so an account was created for you on every language of Wikipedia. The message looks like a standard welcome message. Your talk page is here, however the e-mail tells you that you won't receive any further e-mails if you do not visit your talk page, so it is your choice whether to visit it or not. Please let me know if there are any more questions. Thanks! --Mysdaao talk 18:52, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) You have a single unified login, which means that when you move from one Wikimedia project to another, you are automatically logged in using the same account details. As you can see here, an account was automatically created at the Urdu Wikipedia, and others, on 27 August. Some kind Urdu speaker noticed the new account and decided to welcome you on your Urdu talk page.
- Like many of the smaller Wikis, Urwiki automatically sends an email to notify you of changes to your talk page, and this is what you received. This feature is deactivated on the larger and more active projects, such as the English Wikipedia. Regards, AJCham 18:55, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Your edit on Tokyo[2] seems to be incorrect. Correct coordinate is 35°41′23″N 139°41′30″E / 35.68972°N 139.69167°E for Tokyo Metropolitan Government city office #1. Please check and correct them. Thank you. ―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 02:43, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

- PS. I've incorporated your coordinates above into the infobox in the Greater Tokyo Area article.
- Thank you for correcting the coordinates. I am not familiar with the coordinates of the prefecture. However I thought the coordinates of the prefecture usually point to the CPO or city office. Why do your coordinates point to the office of Statistics Bureau, Ministry of internal affairs and communications? And why do the coordinates of Greater Tokyo Area point to the Tokyo metropolitan government's office? Regards, Phoenix7777 (talk) 05:08, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
- Phoenix, in the Tokyo prefecture article, I just used the coordinates in the Shinjuku article since Shinjuku is listed as the capital of the prefecture. If you feel that the coordinates should point somewhere else, I'll leave that up to you. I used the coordinates you gave me above, 35°41′23″N 139°41′30″E / 35.68972°N 139.69167°E, for the Greater Tokyo Area article's infobox. Again, if you want to change them to someplace more appropriate, feel free to do so. You seem to have a better handle on Japan and Tokyo info, so if you change the coordinates, I will consider it an act of edification from you to me.

Redlinked cats
Ref.: Category talk:Articles needing additional references#Abbreviated months
I just converted a Noreferences template to a Refimprove in the first section of the Nagoya article. At the bottom the category "Articles needing additional references from Nov 2009" was added, and was redlinked. I came here to see what's up, and I find an existing category, "Articles needing additional references from November 2009". I wonder why the article template draws an incorrect, abbreviated, redlinked category instead of the correct unabbreviated one?
