Fellow Users: Howdy! I am a student at Texas A&M University and am currently enrolled in a technical editing course. One of our major projects is editing a Wikipedia article. Although I have never worked with this interface before, I am eager to learn and see how I can contribute to the site. I will be editing National Museum (Prague) and Dairy product, both of which are listed on my user page with some of my thoughts on what needs editing.
Comprehensive Edit Notes for Dairy Product This is an interesting article. I have previously written a 20-page paper on why humans should not consume milk past infancy, hence why I chose this article to potentially work with. This is a topic that interests me tremendously. Although this article focuses on dairy product rather than reactions the body can have in response to milk, there are still several edits that can be made. I think the introduction/definition of dairy product is pretty spot on. The "Types of dairy products" list seems well-organized at first, but a closer read will prove otherwise. The first bullet point is describing milk, but there are terms (such as the bacteria) that need a little more explanation. Most of the products are hyperlinked and have some information about them, but not all. I think all of the products should be hyperlinked (if there is a subsequent article) and have a few sentences describing what the product is. Caesin is a very important component in milk, yet it is not described well. The "Health" section is very small; the health aspect of dairy products should be lengthy and detailed so audiences know exactly what dairy does in your body (i.e. benefits, side effects, etc.). The "Consumption patterns world wide" section seems random and not important to the context of the rest of the article. I think the "Avoidance" section is a good section to have, but it seems thrown together and the information can be presented in a more effective manner.
I think it is important to change the list into paragraphs (one for milk, butter, cheese, etc.) in order to abide by Wikipedia's encyclopedia style.
Article Selection
[edit]- Dairy product -- At first glance I didn't think that this was a great one, but I actually think it will work. Some of the information here is strange and the article does need some rethinking. You'd have to spend some time with similar Good or Featured articles to think about what to do with it, especially turning this list into an appropriate form.
- Vegetable soup -- This one doesn't have enough content to work with.
- Bookworm (insect) -- Likewise, not enough to work with
- National Museum (Prague) -- This would be a good one to work with. Clear NPOV issues and plenty of content to work with.
- New German Cinema -- This one would also work. It has some apparent NPOV issues and needs to be reorganized.

[edit]Please do not use styles that are unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles, as you did in Dairy product. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Thank you. General Ization Talk 02:05, 14 March 2019 (UTC)
Talk Thank you for your comment. I will keep that in mind moving forward. I would like to mention that I am working on this article as part of a class assignment. I was editing the article based on suggestions made by my professor, who is very familiar with the Wikipedia interphase. Thank you again. Paigebrazil (talk) 02:16, 14 March 2019 (UTC)Paigebrazil
- Paige, please do make sure you consult WP:MOS before making changes of the sort mentioned by General Ization. And please remember that my position as "your professor" does not count as authority in Wikipedia; although I am here to help you navigate these situations as they arise, General Ization would say the same to thing to me if I had made those edits. Make your edits useful and implemented in clear, well-justified terms that other editors can follow and potentially respond to if response is warranted. As we have discussed, my suggestions are to get you going in thinking carefully about Wikipedia--they are not to be implemented blindly but in consideration of everything available to you--especially other editors like General Ization who is taking their time to check over what you're doing.
