Original research

[edit]

I'm concerned that it seems much of what you're adding to these RI-related pages falls under the category of original research. For example, this addition:

However, only the South Kingstown resident who claims they live in West Kingston is correct. A Richmond resident who says they live in West Kingston is, even if not known to them, technically not speaking the truth. Just because a place falls under a certain zip code jurisdiction does not mean that place is located in the place name of the zip code.

Where is this verifiable in reliable secondary sources? While I wouldn't say such an addition isn't helpful -- and I have no reason whatsoever to doubt its correctness -- rules/norms like "no original research" are what make it so people can't add this or that anecdote or ideas they just made up. Everything that appears anywhere in an article therefore has to also appear in reliable secondary sources. Those sources don't always have to be cited, but the sources do have to exist somewhere (so "Providence is the capital of Rhode Island" can be assumed verifiable, but what a Richmond resident means when he or she says something probably isn't).

Hope that makes sense. Ultimately it's probably a matter of trimming, rewording, and/or (ideally) citing a source. --— Rhododendrites talk02:38, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
