Election maps
[edit]I appreciate your creation of maps like File:Texas House 2010.png. If possible, could you upload and export these as SVGs instead of PNGs? No worries if you can't, but SVG maps are generally preferable. Thanks! (also, if you have any questions about maps feel free to ask me, I've been working in the area on Wikipedia for a while) Elli (talk | contribs) 02:28, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Elli Unfortunately, I cannot upload my maps as .svg files because I create them using Adobe Photoshop Elements, manually editing existing maps. I do not know about nor use the tool that most other users use to make their maps as .svg files. Would you be able to point me in that direction? Thank you! OutlawRun (talk) 02:33, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- I usually create SVG maps using qGis and filling in the data with Inkscape. The process of creating new SVG shapes is somewhat complex, most of the time I just edit existing maps too (and for that, Inkscape is sufficient). The colors I use for the maps are available here. Elli (talk | contribs) 02:35, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Elli Thank you for the information! I will try to use this where applicable in the future. Unless someone else goes in and makes their own SVG maps, will the PNG maps I made for the 2008 and 2010 Texas Legislature Elections, as well as the 2017 and 2021 Plano Municipal Elections be allowed to stay as they are?
- Yes, I will not remove the maps. I might make an SVG map eventually for some of the elections, though. A PNG map is better than no map, and if you can't make SVG maps, I don't want to discourage you from making PNG maps. Elli (talk | contribs) 03:22, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

2006 US state legislative elections
[edit]Hello, for the 2006 state legislative elections page, you had Republicans winning the Nevada House of Representatives on the map, however in the table you have Democrats winning the Nevada House. 136.34.181.44 (talk) 05:52, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
- I did not make the table, but that was an error I made in the maps. I have now corrected it. In the future, if you notice an error like that, feel free to correct it yourself. OutlawRun (talk) 06:10, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
Texas election assessments
[edit]I have assessed the articles you submitted to Wikiproject Texas. Thanks for expanding/creating these articles. The Redistricting in Texas article in particular was well written and cited. If you would like more feedback on that article, you may consider nominating it for Good Article status. As a heads up, Wikiproject Texas is mostly inactive; I am likely the only person monitoring that page. For minor articles below B class such as the House election articles, feel free to reassess them yourself up to Start or C class. I would be happy to continue assessing any other articles that you think meet the B-Class criteria, though you're more likely to get a thorough review if you submit them to a more structured process such as GA or Peer review. Keep up the good work! Stedil (talk) 23:40, 20 March 2023 (UTC)

1920 Texas presidential election edit
[edit]Hi OutlawRun,
I would like to explain in point form what I was intending to achieve with the edit to the 1920 presidential election in Texas article, because I am satisfied that the edit I made was useful and helpful:
- collapse the unwieldy-long list of counties into a collapsible table that the reader can open if he or she wishes to see and analyses the detailed results — rather than have them as a potentially overbearing presence upon the remained of the text
- make the county table fit on a desktop-style page to my computer with the election and candidate pictures templates all present on the right
- make the candidate columns on the county table as equal as possible (which does not happen when they are sized automatically)
I am realistic about this issue – for example I feel that states with fewer than about fifty counties possess no need for a collapsible county table for their statewide elections – and I am also aware from personal experience that for those using a mobile view the changes I made do not have any effect. Nevertheless, for those with a desktop view the improvements I was intending to make, I feel, made the article much easier and better to read. Luokehao (talk) 03:15, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi. I undid your edit because I misunderstood what it was supposed to do, not because I disagreed with what it did. I reverted my own edit once I realized what was supposed to happen. OutlawRun (talk) 17:57, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Liz Read! - Hi. This happened because the page I was working on, 1994 Texas House of Representatives election, was moved to draft space by another user while I was working on it, as the version of the page that was currently published did not have any sources. When I make pages for these elections, I publish them for every section I finish, and they often resemble the sections from nearby election pages. Is there a way to merge the changes back into the old page? I don't know if the draft space version has been overwritten now that I have re-published the page separately. Hi: We saw this map (File:Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill Final Vote.png), with the text "A Senate map of the final vote on the INVEST in America Act. Initially created using the Senate map outline on 270towin, this map was heavily modified to match the conventions of similar maps of this style".
We make maps--what kinds of updates might you suggest for it? We'll try our best and put up a new one. 128.61.177.118 (talk) 17:23, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- I made this map before I had knowledge of and access to the tools used to make good SVG maps to the standard of Wikipedia. If you would like to put up a new one, just make it in the style of the one showing the Senate vote to pass Obamacare:
- Or the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010:
- But for consistency's sake, probably use the same color scheme as the House vote map on the page of the IIaJA:

Re: 2024 Texas House of Representatives Elections
[edit]Hello!
Appreciate your edits and reformatting of my changes, I'm just getting started editing on Wikipedia so I'm still learning the ropes. I have a bunch of links for good sources for the HD146 (and other) endorsements that were removed for being unsourced but could not figure out how to paste in the source in that formatting box? Feels like I'm probably just overlooking something.
Thank you Wheresmything (talk) 04:41, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- For things like that, I create the citation outside of the box, go into the source editor, then cut and past the source code for the citation into wherever I'm trying to put it.
- For the endorsements box or HD 146, though, I don't think it is really necessary to be that detailed with it because at the end of the day, it's a pretty minor race unless you can find a lot of major coverage of it. I don't want the article to become too bloated with lists of things like endorsements for every single race, as I think it would distract from the actually important context behind the races. The District 21 race I think warrants the endorsements box because it's the speaker's race, but I don't think the others do.
- If you really think the endorsements box is necessary, compress lists of like 20 state reps into one line saying "20 state representatives" or something like that to keep it from becoming bloated. OutlawRun (talk) 13:59, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
Alaska Coalitions
[edit]I reverted your party vs. coalition edit at 2022 Alaska House of Representatives election because it was WP:BOLD, but needs some discussion. I understand the logic that you're using, but comparing it to how coalitions in other global democracies are noted seems to confuse the Alaskan situation. The main difference I would see is that, generally speaking, coalitions in other democracies are formed at the party level, but the Alaska (and Northern Mariana Islands) coalitions are between the individuals, not the parties. So showing 21 Republicans vs. 15 Democrats doesn't reflect the governing situation, nor the fractured nature of the Republican caucus. You also put the two "Independent Republicans" with the Independents, but if it's about the party label, they should be counted with the rest of the Republicans. Their "independent" label reflects their relationship to the caucus, not the party per se. —Carter (Tcr25) (talk) 12:55, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
