Virtual Backup Appliance
[edit]--JamesMchallem (talk) 13:27, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Hey, I'm just noticed you've added a flag on the article on Virtual Backup Appliance technology for "speedy deletion. Since this is a technology that is now being used by multiple virtualization companies I fail to see why you flagged it?
Also you flagged another page the same "PHD Virtual Technologies". The other top 5 virtualization companies have profiles and I fail to see why this would also be flagged as PHD are a key company in the development of VM Tech.
Please can you delete the flags for deletion?
Cheers
Blue ice: the meme, the movie
[edit]Hi, saw you just removed (one of) the references to the movie Blue Ice from the article about aircraft waste, saying the movie is about some other kind of "blue ice".
Not having seen the movie myself, I can't say definitively whether this was or wasn't the right thing to do, but there are references on the web to Michael Caine's character first describing the phrase (in reference to the female lead) as meaning "something wonderful that's fallen out of the sky," and later more sardonically saying it really refers to a lump of excrement that fell out of a plane.
This would seem to indicate the entire purpose of the movie title is as a setup for this joke, which would indeed tie it right into the article.
Do you know for sure either way how this is actually used in the film? I was going to poke around a little more to try to find a citable source, but if you've seen the movie lately and tell me that's pointless, I'd be glad to give that up... Regards, NapoliRoma (talk) 12:41, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
- I didn't see the movie. I've undone the edit. I think the main problem was the edit history. It's just that a link to that movie without any further comment looked strange. At the most there should be an internal link in an "See also" section, not just an imdb link.--ospalh (talk) 13:28, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
- I think it was added there to supplement the reference to the movie in the body of the article -- and should have then been a reference, rather than a "See also".
- Since the movie now has its own WP article, I think your removal was actually the right thing to do; I just got thrown off by the edit summary -- which is I think what you were suggesting happened :-). Cheers, NapoliRoma (talk) 15:40, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
Arrow Air incident
[edit]Yeah, I was wondering same thing... I believe it was in Spanish as my mate could translate parts of it, but yet I though Brazil spoke Portugese. Translated with Google at first so I didn't know, automatically assumed Spanish as it is most comman is S.America. Hehe. Regards,Zaps93 (talk) 16:55, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Apologies
[edit]Sorry for the misunderstanding - I had not checked the top of the infobox, only the actual contents, hence I thought it was an unsupported/redundant parameter. Yes, there's a clear need for it. Thank you for explaining, and more importantly, thanks (as it is thankless work) for making the effort to actually roll it out! Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 15:33, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Richard Bone - Alternative Music for the Hindenberg Lounge
[edit]Hi Ospalh, Please excuse my previous edit as I just realized I was seriously in error and that your usage of [sic] was absolutely correct. My bad! I hope you can excuse my mistake. Thanks! Marleen (talk) 16:06, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation and welcome back at Wikipedia. The meaning of the {{sic}} is exactly that it was spelled Hindenberg in the original (I looked up the track listing at amazon and on other web pages.) I guess Richard Bone did mean the LZ 129 Hindenburg. Even if he didn't, at least some people (read, me) could think he did mean the airship. (I went through all the "Hindenberg"s and most were misspellings of Hindenburg.)--ospalh (talk) 18:48, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
kevinbrogers reply
[edit]Sorry, I didn't realize editing my own page could be considered vandalism... and for future reference, why? Kevinbrogers (talk) 14:47, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- It was your own talk page. An it's considered vandalism because you hid contributions by other editors. It is explained in the text you referred to, or again at WP:TPO.--ospalh (talk) 14:51, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Ah. I still don't understand, but I'll leave it. It just makes me a little mad that it appears as if the May 2009 comments say I vandalized a page when I was making legitimate contributions to it. Kevinbrogers (talk) 14:54, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
The True Victory
[edit]Me again... I understand why it may appear as if the article isn't genuine, but, as I am the producer of it (and yes, it is legitimate), I know for certain that the article is true. When references become available, I will post them. Kevinbrogers (talk) 15:05, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- I didn't say it wasn't true. (I guess that's what you mean by "genuine") I'm not even saying it's not a worthwile project. (I have an opinion on that, but will keep it to myself.) (Other than that, I have no idea how a film could be "illegimiate") I said it may not be notable. To be blunt, I'm not sure why anybody outside your church would give a wet slap about this film. And that's at least a part of of notability. Another part is having some idependant, reliable sources. I also said that there may be a conflict of interest. You just said that you are the producer; presumably you want that film to be a success. That is an interest other than making wikipedia a good encyclopedia and s that may be the conflict.--ospalh (talk) 15:31, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'll admit, I do want the film to be a success. And I understand that some people may not agree with the message of the film (if that's what you meant). What I meant by "illegitimate" was just those little movies that people make for fun... this film will have a limited theatrical release, which is why I have created an article for it. Kevinbrogers (talk) 15:35, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Request
[edit]Hi. I’m looking to add free-licensed photographs of the various season residences of MTV’s The Real World to the articles for those seasons, so I’m contacting editors whom it appears may live in or near those cities. Do you live in or near Venice Beach, and if so, would you be able to take some high-quality pics of the Los Angeles and/or Hollywood residences and upload them here if I give you the location? If not, do you know anyone who can? Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 13:01, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I won't be able to help you. Venice Beach is some 10,000 from where I am. So I can't just hop into a car to take some photos there. [edit] I just made that edits to the Venice article because a) I was fixing misspellings of Ozzy Osbourne in a number of articles, b) that article was a false positive but c) tried to link to itself.--ospalh (talk) 13:19, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit]I appeciate that CCCP is not latin but with aircraft registrations it is normal to record what is actually painted on the aircraft which is CCCP-12345 not SSSR-12345. AWB "cleanup"
[edit]Hello. Your edits to 1956 FA Cup Final changed page numbers used in Cite journal templates from the format pages=pp. 46–47
to just pages=46–47
. This template doesn't supply the pp. automatically: as the documentation mentions, it's correct to add the pp. manually if required. It is required in this article for consistency of reference formatting, particularly so as it's a featured article and expected to conform absolutely to the Manual of Style. I'll put them back. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 11:24, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
- I'll put them back or I would have done if I hadn't been interrupted :-) thanks for reverting, Struway2 (talk) 11:51, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Reaction Engines A2 has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I removed the following link(s): 11.0@5.9 (matching the regex rule (?<![^\s:])[^\s\]\[\{\}\\\|^\/`<>@:]+@\w+(?!\.htm)(?:\.\w+){1,3}). It appears that you inserted an e-mail address to Reaction Engines A2. Wikipedia pages should not contain personal information. For more information, please read Wikipedia:Biography of Living People, specifically the section about personal information.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 15:50, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
- "11.0@5.9" may trigger the regex for an email address, but it isn't one. And Reaction Engines A2 isn't about a living person. (Rather about some vapourware airliner.) False positive.--ospalh (talk) 16:14, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Hello Ospalh, and thanks for your work patrolling new changes. I am just informing you that I declined the speedy deletion of OssaTron - a page you tagged - because: Only appears to be the first paragraph of the wepage that's the same, the rest is different as far as I can see. Please review the criteria for speedy deletion before tagging further pages. If you have any questions or problems, please let me know. GedUK 19:29, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Re [1], that was a relic from when the lead image was a gif. It didn't downsize to 300px correctly (something with the way mediawiki operates), so it was extremely blurry. But as a png it is now fine. :) Thanks! —Ed (talk • majestic titan) 23:14, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

AWB eg --> e.g.
[edit]Hi there. I encountered a page where this (apparently sensible) correction you made was not justified, on the page Germanic name where 'eg' was listed as a typical prefix of a Germanic name (e.g. Egbert). I have corrected it. This is probably a rare situation, but you might want to double-check the other edits made with that AWB rule. Regards, Junuxx (talk) 21:52, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
- Oops. Thanks for catching that. I'll try to be more careful in the future. There are lots of chances for false positives with all those rules. (And shouldn't that be spelled "eg E.g.bert"? ツ ) ospalh (talk) 22:24, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Bela Lugosi
[edit]Why are you changing Bela Lugosi to Béla Lugosi? While he may be known in his home country with the diacritcal, his greatest fame came in the U.S., where he did not use it. The WP article is at "Bela Lugosi". Please explain your reasoning. Will Beback talk 09:04, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- The main reason was that the page was at Béla Lugosi until May 5. I guess i should stop.ospalh (talk) 10:47, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- They say if you don't like the weather in London just wait five minutes, when it'll change. I suppose that's a bit like Wikipedia. Nothing stays the same for long. I've quoted policies only to find they've been changed since I'd last read them. It happens to all of us. Will Beback talk 06:55, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Red Link Recovery
[edit]Hello. As a German-speaking WikiGnome, I'd like to solicit your help in testing a new tool. For a few years now, the Red Link Recovery Project has been using the Red Link Recovery Live tool to track down and fix unnecessarily red links in articles. Recently, the tool has been expanded to work on non-English Wikipedias. A small set of suggested fixes for red-links on the German-language Wikipedia have been prepared and I'm hoping to interest some German-language speakers (such as yourself) to work through them.
If you are interested, please visit http://toolserver.org/~tb/RLRL/quick.php?lang=de. Each time you refresh the page you'll be presented with three new suggested fixes. I'll be happy to answer any questions on the tools talk page. - TB (talk) 17:43, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest
[edit]I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 02:34, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

By putting these tags inside of javascript comments, it won't impact the functionality of your script, but it will keep the backend software from transcluding Template:' + 'DEFAULTSORT:' + nounPhrase + ', ' + article + '. You will know if the tags worked if Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:' + 'DEFAULTSORT:' + nounPhrase + ', ' + article + ' no longer shows your javascript page.
