There's a version of that logo on the ICU's website: http://www.midowgamaxkamadaha.com/ It's G.M.I.S. or the Golaha Maxaakiimta Islaamiga Soomaaliyeed, roughly translated as the Somalian Council of Islamic Sharia Courts, the ruling council of the Union. I'm going to use it as the "correct" arms, and place the one currently used as the alternate. --Ingoman 03:45, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome, and thanks

[edit]

First of all, welcome to Wikipedia! I'm shocked that you've been around so long, doing such good work, without anyone giving you a proper welcome. Hopefully you've got your head around the way things work here, but if you've got any questions, drop a note on my talk page.

Secondly, I just wanted to say thanks for the excellent map you've created of the Districts of Afghanistan - it's much appreciated. --OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 08:58, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

[edit]

Hi Orthuberra,

Thanks for all your hard work, especially the excellent maps you've made. I just thought I'd ask if you would like to join the DPRK working group in WikiProject Korea, since you have done such excellent work on North Korea-related topics. Cheers, -- Visviva 07:42, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great! Welcome aboard! Since you're interested in the military side of things, maybe you'd like to drop by Ch'onma-ho. Fellow member User:Catalan (and others) have been doing a great job there, I think; it might not take too much more to get it to featured status.
In terms of maps, well, if you had time it would be great to have location maps for the secondary divisions as well, since we're soon going to have articles on all of them. Something like the map in Gimpo City, maybe, but for the cities & counties of North Hamgyong &c. If you just created a starter map for each province, the rest of us could probably handle the "grunt work" of creating separate maps highlighting each div. In any case, thanks again for all your efforts. Happy editing! Cheers, -- Visviva 03:50, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent work on the map! However, I'm a little concerned about copyright given the World Food Program's map [1]. Yours is definitely not a direct copy, but it keeps the same selection of minor islands, the same mixed Romanization scheme, the inclusion of some lower-level entities (like Puyun, North Hamgyong), etc. I don't really know to what degree it's permissible to use an existing map to create a new one without running into copyright issues. --Reuben 05:05, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually North Hamgyong is a province.  ;-) -- Visviva 10:19, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I meant Puyun in North Hamgyong. Puyun-guyok is a district in Chongjin-si, but it's shown separately. --Reuben 14:32, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! That must have taken a lot of work. Re Reuben's comment above, I don't *think* this should be a problem, although I'm no expert; looking at the two maps, I see quite a few differences, and significant additional information (for example, separation of autonomous areas) has been added. There are a few glitches, mostly romanization and the like, but now that you've got us started out we can work on that over time. (I'll look into that once we have a full set of county & city articles. In any case, there are some naming-conventions issues & such that we'll have to sort out before that can be 100% solidified.) Thanks again, -- Visviva 10:19, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS If it's not too much trouble, could you also upload a blank (no lettering) version of the map to Commons? That would make the map usable in the Korean & other wikis. Cheers, -- Visviva

NK Map: thanks

[edit]

Hi Orthuberra, thanks for taking the time to reassure me about the maps. No doubt the world food program map simply used some of the same sources you did. It's really excellent work, and adds a huge amount to the articles. --Reuben 05:51, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you again. But your maps do not reflect recent reform of the NK provinces. Nampho and Rason are designated as not Directly Governed Cities, but Special Cities. -- ChongDae 06:07, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Map Request

[edit]

I have a slightly unusual request. I was wondering if you could make a replica of a Risk game board map for the Risk article. I'm not really sure if it would be a copyright vio or anything but I think a map would look better than the chart currently on the page. In case you were wondering what I was envisioning, I was just hoping for a numerated map, with color tones similar to the real game. The names wouldn't need to be on the individual countries, and actually I think I would prefer if they weren't. I'd rather make it look something like Libya administrative divisions with the names on the side. Please let me know what you think. Thanks. b_cubed 01:38, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks pretty cool. I was just wondering if there was anyway you could just throw some numbers on the countries. That way I could label them with a side key. Also, is there anyway the background color could be white? Thanks again. Looks really cool. b_cubed 21:20, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think it looks amazing and I already put it into the article. Feel free to take a look at it. thanks b_cubed 09:13, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As another editor of Risk, I would also like to thank you for your work in creating the map. It looks very nice and is of great benefit to the article. Thanks, Dan Slotman 17:53, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:ICU seal snapshot.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:ICU seal snapshot.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:ECO logo.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:ECO logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:00, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Image:Colombia Rebel.png

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:Colombia Rebel.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image with an unknown source or an unknown copyright status which has been tagged as such for more than 7 days, and it still lacks the necessary information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[Talk:Image:Colombia Rebel.png|the article's talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File permission problem with File:Moroc-Songhrati-Meads flag.png

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Moroc-Songhrati-Meads flag.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
