Re:Wikipedia email

[edit]

Hi Onlydemi! I'm replying to the email you sent to my bot, BattyBot. BattyBot did not edit the Jerry Coyne article, but did edit the copy you made at User:Onlydemi. I have not also been assigned to work on your project. The edit summary for the bot's edit says "changed article categories to links per WP:USERNOCAT". WP:USERNOCAT is a shortcut link to a guideline about categorizing user pages, which states "user subpages that are draft versions of articles should be kept out of content categories...If you copy an article from mainspace to userspace and it already contains categories, remove them or comment them out. Restore the categories when you move the draft back into article space." So my bot's edit added a colon in front of each category (e.g. [[Category:Living people]] to [[:Category:Living people]]), which makes the categories visible on your user page but does not include your user page in the category. If you're looking for ways to make some small improvements to the article, here are some suggestions:

  • In the "Noteworthy scientific papers" section, add italics for the journals Nature and Science, per WP:ITALICS.
  • The "Noteworthy scientific papers" should be in some kind of order, such as chronological or by author's last name.
  • Pick one citation style, and apply it consistently in the "Noteworthy scientific papers", "Books", "Online articles", and "References" sections. For example, his works should be credited to "Coyne, JA", "Coyne, J. A.", or "Coyne, Jerry A.", but not all three.
  • In the "References" section, the date "02.12.09" is ambiguous - is this February 12, 2009 or 2 December 2009 or 2002 December 9 or something else? I suggest you look at the source article and fix the date format.

Happy editing, and let me know if I can provide any assistance (that doesn't violate the terms of your project, of course). GoingBatty (talk) 21:19, 19 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! Those changes you suggested have been made. -- Christine

Thank YOU! Now that you've completely changed your userpage, will you be making those same changes to the live Jerry Coyne article? GoingBatty (talk) 03:25, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, yes I still have more work to do on Jerry's page. I am using my sandbox for that. Haven't quite figured out the best way to work on multiple projects at once. I should have Jerry's page updated by tomorrow.

Hi again, I made the changes LIVE on Jerry Coyne. Just FYI

File permission problem with File:Robert Bloch's recommendation letter for Peter Michaels 1990.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Robert Bloch's recommendation letter for Peter Michaels 1990.jpg, which you've attributed to A VRT notice was applied over 30 day(s) ago, but no message at VRTS has been found since this tag was applied.. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:42, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
