Undercover Boss

[edit]

Hello,

I've had a warning from you re: my entry about Harry Ramsden's. I wrote all of the Undercover Boss section (after watching the programme this morning). What's the problem? Why am I being warned?

Ta, —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jared5050 (talkcontribs) 07:25, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You emptied the section with undercover boss thats because i reverted it : [1] --Olli (talk) 07:27, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was busy editing it! I wanted to move the section somewhere else and put some lettering into italics! THIS IS NOT VANDALISM AND I THINK IT IS VERY UNFAIR TO GIVE ME A "FINAL WARNING". It was my intelligent contribution and I was working on the layout. Could you kindly revoke the warning.

Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jared5050 (talkcontribs) 07:36, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

Have you reverted the warning? Clearly I was not a vandal or anything, hence I am a little upset. Please get rid of the warning as soon as possible.

Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jared5050 (talkcontribs) 07:49, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello ´but you should NOT empty sections because that can be decode as vandalism so could you please dont empty the sections, you should use PREVIEW button to preview your changes thank you ps remember to sign your talkpage comments ps2 at this time i will remove the note from your talkpage --Olli (talk) 07:59, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy,

Okay, I'll remember that (didn't know) in future. Thanks for un-warning me.

WikiProject Eurovision: Recent changes

[edit]

Hello,

Please note that there have been some changes to operations surrounding Eurovision articles, these being that:

  • Template names have now been modernised and/or megred into super-templates, for example Countries in the Eurovision Song Contest has now been merged into Template:Eurovision Song Contest making it even easier to find everything under one template. If you are planning to create a new template, please keep the standardised titles in mind. Other templates have been modernised and a full list of them can be found here.
  • The Eurovision Song Contest and Junior Eurovision Song Contest articles have now been standardised to keep a consitancy throughout the project and to the genral reader too. Skeleton article drafts can be found for Eurovision Song Contest by Year and Junior Eurovision Song Contest by Year.

If you have any questions, please ask at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision.

You are receiving this message since you are listed as a member of WikiProject Eurovision. If you are no longer interested in contributing to Eurovision articles, please remove your username from this page.

To discontinue receiving Eurovision newsletters and mini memorandums, please remove your name from here.

This mini memorandum has been delivered by EdwardsBot (talk) 13:52, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Olli, you probably meant well in editing this memorandum, but please don't. These have been designed in a specific way and should only be altered by coordinators of the newsdesk team. Thanks WesleyMouse 14:27, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What you exactly mean by it? I just wanted to make it a bit simpler, since the current style is too colorful I think. And remember - Wikipedia is free, everyone can make edits - you should not restrict that ability. --Olli (talk) 17:21, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, not all parts of Wikipedia is free some areas are restricted from editing. If it was an article, then yes anyone would be allowed to improve it, but as it is a newsletter belonging to Project Eurovision, then no - only the editorial coordinators have the right to edit/alter them. WesleyMouse 17:30, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. If I add my name to the list of editorial coordinators, can I then suggest changes to it? --Olli (talk) 17:32, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Why change it? Leave it as it is please. WesleyMouse 17:36, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. You need one of the two coordinators to invite you to the editorial team. WesleyMouse 17:37, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think it would be better looking, if the settings were as I changed them... --Olli (talk) 17:39, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Its not just about making it "look better". This particular one is a mini-memo and needs to be short and precise. It is doing it sole purpose of providing brief notice to project members. The newsletter has also gone through a similar modification, but noting too drastic. WesleyMouse 17:42, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In what point I have tried to change it long? --Olli (talk) 17:44, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You're misquoting me now, I haven't said you attempted to change it longer. I was merely pointing out that this version is a shorter version for the purpose of issuing urgent notices; in comparison to the larger monthly project newsletter. WesleyMouse 17:46, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Total Recall (2012 Film)

[edit]

I hope this isn't rude. Is it possible for you to answer these questions? Did you see Total Recall 2012 film? In this movie, since Colin Farrel's original identity got erased, is it because Colin Farrel honestly choose to be on the Resistance Side or is it because Colin wanted to help UFB locate the Resistance?(76.20.90.53 (talk) 02:24, 18 October 2012 (UTC)).[reply]

I'm sorry, but I have not seen the film. --Olli (talk) 11:55, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Eurovision navigation termplates

[edit]

Hi Olli,

I noticed that you made some rather unusual alterations to Template:Eurovision Song Contest 2013 and a further contradictory alteration to the template on the main article Eurovision Song Contest 2013. What I found confusing is the template itself was already uncollapsed, yet you changed its status to collapsed, and then on the article you instructed the template to uncollapse. What was the point of that action? As the template itself was already in an uncollapsed state, then there was no need to instruct the article to carry out a function that was already in operation. Also the templates have been known to be a touchy subject on the project and result in a lot of unwanted and easily avoidable arguments between project members. You only need to check Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision/Archive 6#Template duplications from 7 months ago to see for yourself how vicious the debates over templates on the project can turn out. That one alone took a little over a month to resolve, and the result is the way the templates look at the moment. And in my honest opinion the way they are now have caused no further issues arising between members. My advice, if it isn't broken - don't fix it, just leave it be. If you think there could be minor improvements on them, raise the issues first on the project talk page, to prevent the over-heated debates turning nasty then they need to be. I've restored the two alterations back to their original status for now. Regards, WesleyMouse 16:59, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted that the box is Not-Open as default in country pages, but Open as default in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 page. --Olli (talk) 17:04, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Btw, are you good with templates? I would like to have same view/edit/discuss system to Finnish navigation things, but cannot get it work properly? May you please have a look. V/E/D template: fi:Malline:Nkm, Navigation template: fi:Malline:Avattava --Olli (talk) 17:06, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Ahh I see. Before doing that then, I'd suggest you participate in the RfC discussion regarding article layout for Country in Eurovision pages first. Because we as a project community are review them entirely. Your action of changing on 2013 articles would mean we'd have to keep consistency and do the same on the other articles going back to 1956. And there's 100's if not 1000's of them. The way I was told over templates once is not to alter them in style/appearance without an overall project consensus first. I'd like to pass that advice on to you, as I'd hate to see you get caught up in any unwanted heated debates over the pesky things.
I'm confident enough with en:wiki templates, but not on other language versions, for one I don't know a word of Finnish, so wouldn't know what I'd be typing on the template instructions. WesleyMouse 17:09, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Do our counterparts at fi:Wiki not have a help desk or village pump type area where you may be able to seek help on that matter? Might be worth checking. I've just checked, they don't have a help desk, but they do have a village pump see fi:Wikipedia:Kahvihuone. WesleyMouse 6:14 pm, Today (UTC+1)
Ok. The Finnish community is a bit different than the English one. And for the template thing, you don't need to type the instructions. If you have time, please look the template, and you can give the changes to this talkpage, so I can try them. --Olli (talk) 17:14, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm guessing you deleted my other comment by accident through an edit conflict? Anyhow I've restored it back as it had some good advice for you. As for adding V/E/D on templates over at fi:wiki, I wouldn't just go ahead an do it if I were you, as they are functions that are going to require a community-wide consensus and not just on random templates. You don't want to get yourself in trouble over there now do you. WesleyMouse 17:19, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ,sorry. Thanks for the tip. Like I said, the fiwiki community is different than English one. Not all changes require discussion. Btw, we do have better Esc template than English wikipedia has! :) You can use it this way: {{Esc|2012}} produces year link; {{Esc|Sweden}} produces country link; {{Esc|Sweden|l}} produces country link with flag In en-wp there is different for all those ;) --Olli (talk) 17:23, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You'll find different language counterparts do act differently, as they do here too. We cannot use the method that you have suggested as they produce flag icons not templates. For example, here at en:Wiki the code {{Esc|Sweden}} produced  Sweden. They are all technical items which require a broader wiki-community consensus and not something we can just change when we want to. The English Eurovision template as the look now are a greater improvement from how they used to look, believe me. The previous discussion that was held allowed us to amalgamate templates together and reduce the number of templates we had by half. At the end of the day its making life easier for an editor and just have as minimal templates to maintain as possible - the current method at en:wiki allows this to happen. Hi. To clarify why I removed 'disaster' from the current event template, it is normal English usage to only use the term in relation to an accidental and unexpected event - and clearly this was no accident. AndyTheGrump (talk) 05:29, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

ESC2013

[edit]

Hi Olli, I fully understand why you would think the withdrawals shouldn't be mentioned in the participation section per your edit summary comment, but that particular section is rather small and needs some expansion. As the withdrawals are mentiond in the lead and the other countries part, there is no harm in also mentioning in brief the same information in the participations section. It helps to build an article into a GA class article, and potentially a Feature Article if we decided to go to that next phase in the near future, and I have successfully managed to get 3 WP:ESC articles to GA classification in the past, with ESC2013 being my next ambitious goal. I have therefore restored the content. If you have any questions, feel free to raise them via Talk:Eurovision Song Contest 2013. Regards, WesleyMouse 17:39, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • It may also be worth noting that a similar procedure was used on ESC 2012, in which the withdrawals were mentioned in the same 'Participating countries' section as well as the 'Other countries' section. WesleyMouse 17:53, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the explanation, I understand it. Hopefully you will be watching Eurovision, too! :) I cannot wait for the first semifinal to begin... Finland's entry is going to be presented in 2nd semifinal.--Olli (talk) 17:56, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You're very welcome for the explanation. Since the 2012 article gained GA classification, it has raised the barrier of standards for Project Eurovision, with the goal to get as many articles to a GA standard, so that we can be seen as a worthy project that writes excellent articles. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
