Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Okiloma! Your additions to Sea Tigers have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 03:24, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, Thank you for letting me know this. In the future I'll stick to this. 8:54, 7/17/2022 (EST) [Okiloma] Okiloma (talk) 12:55, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
- Moneytrees🏝️, I've again improved the same article again without breaching the copyright of the Wiki. Please have a look at it now. 8:54, 7/21/2022 (EST) [Okiloma] Okiloma (talk) 12:55, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
- I've reworded your recent editions, as they were still too close to the sources; you can see the rewrites I did in this edit. While your effort to rewrite is appreciated, you need to focus on summarizing the source rather then saying what it is saying verbatim. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 00:01, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
- Ok, Now I understood. I will adherent to it in my future edits. Thank you for guiding me. Okiloma (talk) 13:33, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

You are referring information of a District to a City and hard words in the comment
[edit]Hello Okiloma, In your Changes in religious statics of Puttalam You are referring Puttalam District. Buddhist are majorities in the Puttalam District while Muslims are majorities In Puttalam City. In the Source:statistics.gov.lk, You can verify these data. Puttalam and Puttalam District is not same. Please, Revert your changes. @Mafasdeen7 Mafas Deen 19:26, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hey, I'm not aware of this. Thank you for enlightening me. And that's not a hard word. As I could not verify the source, I used the word "vandalism." No offence. Okiloma (talk) 18:18, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

- If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
- Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
- When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.

Disambiguation link notification for April 10
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Tamil Genocide, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Eelam War. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 06:09, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- NO, In my the link is correct as it contains info only related to Sri Lanka's Eelam Wars only. And thank you for letting me know that. Okiloma (talk) 06:19, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
Warning for abusing multiple accounts
[edit]As detailed at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Okiloma, checkuser evidence has found that you have used an alternative account in an illegitimate way by editing the same article with multiple accounts (Tamil genocide).
I have blocked the other account (நன்னிச்சோழன் 2). If you abuse multiple accounts again you may be blocked. I would suggest reading through the policy on the use of multiple accounts. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 17:30, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
- I was never intent to abuse Wikipedia rules. I unknowingly logged in from a different account and edited, but never meant to edit from that account with a conscious mind. Please accept my apologies for violating the wiki unknowingly. I'll make sure this doesn't happen again. Okiloma (talk) 18:46, 11 May 2024 (UTC)

[edit]{{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 20:38, 11 May 2024 (UTC)- I removed some text you added to Sri Lankan state-sponsored colonisation schemes, as it was copied from the cited book source, Redefining Genocide: Settler Colonialism, Social Death and Ecocide. As far as I can tell, while the book is avilable online in some places it isn't licensed to be copied into Wikipedia. Unfortunately, I find myself needing to block you as you have been repeatedly warned about copying content from outside sources into Wikipedia. You write about some underrepresented topics and seem to have a decent understanding of sources so I would hope you try to appeal this block. If you want to be unblocked, you need to commit to not from copying from sources in your future editing and demonstrate a better understanding of copyright. User:Moneytrees/Copyright blocks contains some advice on appealing this block. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 20:49, 11 May 2024 (UTC)

Request reason:
Hey, there. Thank you for following the wiki guidelines. It was my bad to write in a poorly paraphrased manner. Below I paraphrased how I'll re-add the content. Kindly have a look at it. Also, I'll guarantee that this will not happen again. (further copyright violation removed by reviewer)
Decline reason:
No. Close paraphrasing is also not permitted. Yamla (talk) 11:38, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
You are dedicated contributor who writes about underrepresented topics. Please note in addition to Plagiarism / Copyright violations ,Close paraphrasing is also not allowed. You would need to write every sentence in your own words. Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 15:44, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
