Casey Neistat - again
Hi! There is no source, that is able to publish the numbers of subscriptions on a youtube channel, without taking the numbers from youtube. In that case youtube is a source, that should work. And this source is directly behind my edit, becouse it was there already. In the german Wikipedia this is completely normal... I´m annoyed from your skepticism about me. Why? It´s redicolous. --Karo Fünf (talk) 18:03, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Karo Fünf: I don't have anything more to add about this beyond what I've already said. If you still feel that your edit complies with the English Wikipedia policy on verifiability and biographies of living persons policy, then feel free to re-add your edit back to the article. I don't intend to approve any edits on the article myself (as a pending changes reviewer), but I won't revert it either. Another editor will most likely handle any pending changes to the article from here. OhKayeSierra (talk) 03:30, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Tech News
- Because of the holidays the next issue of Tech News will be sent out on 11 January 2021.
Recent changes
- The
{{citation needed}}
template shows when a statement in a Wikipedia article needs a source. If you click on it when you edit with the visual editor there is a popup that explains this. Now it can also show the reason and when it was added. [11]
Changes later this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week or next week.
Future changes
- You can propose and discuss what technical improvements should be done for geographic information. This could be coordinates, maps or other related things.
- Some wikis use LanguageConverter to switch between writing systems or variants of a language. This can only be done for the entire page. There will be a
<langconvert>
tag that can convert a piece of text on a page. [12] - Oversighters and stewards can hide entries in Special:AbuseLog. They can soon hide multiple entries at once using checkboxes. This works like hiding normal edits. It will happen in early January. [13]

Recent changes
- You can choose to be reminded when you have not added an edit summary. This can be done in your preferences. This could conflict with the CAPTCHA. This has now been fixed. [14]
- You can link to specific log entries. You can get these links for example by clicking the timestamps in the log. Until now, such links to private log entries showed no entry even if you had permission to view private log entries. The links now show the entry. [15]
- Admins can use the abuse filter tool to automatically prevent bad edits. Three changes happened last week:
- The filter editing interface now shows syntax errors while you type. This is similar to JavaScript pages. It also shows a warning for regular expressions that match the empty string. New warnings will be added later. [16]
- Oversighters can now hide multiple filter log entries at once using checkboxes on Special:AbuseLog. This is how the usual revision deletion works. [17]
- When a filter matches too many actions after it has been changed it is "throttled". The most powerful actions are disabled. This is to avoid many editors getting blocked when an administrator made a mistake. The administrator will now get a notification about this "throttle".
- There is a new tool to build new skins. You can also see existing skins. You can give feedback. [18]
- Bots using the API no longer watch pages automatically based on account preferences. Setting the
watchlist
towatch
will still work. This is to reduce the size of the watchlist data in the database. [19] - Scribunto's file metadata now includes length. [20]
- CSS and JavaScript code pages now have link anchors to line numbers. You can use wikilinks like w:en:MediaWiki:Common.js#L-50. [21]
- There was a new version of MediaWiki last week. You can read a detailed log of all 763 changes. Most of them are very small and will not affect you.
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 12 January. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 13 January. It will be on all wikis from 14 January (calendar).

Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 19 January. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 20 January. It will be on all wikis from 21 January (calendar).
Future changes
- The Growth team plans to add features to get more visitors to edit to more Wikipedias. You can help translating the interface.
- You will be able to read but not to edit Wikimedia Commons for a short time on 26 January at 07:00 (UTC). [22]
- MassMessage posts could be automatically timestamped in the future. This is because MassMessage senders can now send pages using MassMessage. Pages are more difficult to sign. If there are times when a MassMessage post should not be timestamped you can let the developers know.

Editing news 2021 #1
Read this in another language • Subscription list for this newsletter
Reply tool
The Reply tool is available at most other Wikipedias.
- The Reply tool has been deployed as an opt-out preference to all editors at the Arabic, Czech, and Hungarian Wikipedias.
- It is also available as a Beta Feature at almost all Wikipedias except for the English, Russian, and German-language Wikipedias. If it is not available at your wiki, you can request it by following these simple instructions.
Research notes:
- As of January 2021, more than 3,500 editors have used the Reply tool to post about 70,000 comments.
- There is preliminary data from the Arabic, Czech, and Hungarian Wikipedia on the Reply tool. Junior Contributors who use the Reply tool are more likely to publish the comments that they start writing than those who use full-page wikitext editing.[23]
- The Editing and Parsing teams have significantly reduced the number of edits that affect other parts of the page. About 0.3% of edits did this during the last month.[24] Some of the remaining changes are automatic corrections for Special:LintErrors.
- A large A/B test will start soon.[25] This is part of the process to offer the Reply tool to everyone. During this test, half of all editors at 24 Wikipedias (not including the English Wikipedia) will have the Reply tool automatically enabled, and half will not. Editors at those Wikipeedias can still turn it on or off for their own accounts in Special:Preferences.
New discussion tool
The new tool for starting new discussions (new sections) will join the Discussion tools in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures at the end of January. You can try the tool for yourself.[26] You can leave feedback in this thread or on the talk page.
Next: Notifications
During Talk pages consultation 2019, editors said that it should be easier to know about new activity in conversations they are interested in. The Notifications project is just beginning. What would help you become aware of new comments? What's working with the current system? Which pages at your wiki should the team look at? Please post your advice at mw:Talk:Talk pages project/Notifications.

Closing
I am planning to take your closure to review. It isn't a SNOW and you offer no policy analysis.Casprings (talk) 13:39, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Casprings: I replied directly at the move review, but I wanted to add that I really wish you would've actually discussed the matter with me beforehand (which is required by WP:MR, anyway). If you were to go through my talk archives, you would find that I take other editors' feedback seriously and reconsider my actions when someone discusses it with me. I have reversed my RM closures quite a few times after reconsideration, such as at User talk:OhKayeSierra/Archive 5#2020 Open Championship. When I closed this RM, I knew that it would most likely be controversial, and as I said at the MR, I stand by my closure, given how unstable the article title has been. But I'm not necessarily opposed to relisting the RM. Also, my pronouns are she/her. OhKayeSierra (talk) 14:07, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
- One, it isn't required. Two, you literally cited IAR in your close. That close is absent all policy and uses SNOW. I would ask you to revert.Casprings (talk) 14:10, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
- It may not be required per se, but it's incredibly poor form not to discuss the matter with the closer beforehand and usually doesn't work out well for the MR if you don't. In any case, had you simply messaged me, I would've been more than happy to reconsider the RM, and spared others from needless dramaz on MR. That being said, I'm willing to revert my closure, given how strongly you and other editors feel about it. OhKayeSierra (talk) 14:18, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Casprings: I have reverted my closure and relisted the RM. See diff. OhKayeSierra (talk) 14:26, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

That being said, I'm willing to revert my closure, given how strongly you and other editors feel about it. OhKayeSierra (talk) 14:18, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
- One, it isn't required. Two, you literally cited IAR in your close. That close is absent all policy and uses SNOW. I would ask you to revert.Casprings (talk) 14:10, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
@Casprings: Please withdraw your move review. If you need help with the process, Wikipedia:Move review/Administrator instructions is a good resource. Thank you, OhKayeSierra (talk) 14:38, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
It's too late now, but for the record: I voted Support in that RM, but I absolutely agreed with OhKayeSierra's decision to close it. There is no chance for this RM to succeed. The move review by Casprings was in good faith, but it's counter-productive. It will only prolong the mess that is this RM. — Chrisahn (talk) 17:43, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
Move review for 2021 storming of the United States Capitol
An editor has asked for a Move review of 2021 storming of the United States Capitol. Because you closed the move discussion for this page, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the move review. Casprings (talk) 13:46, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
Move of Weedon railway station
Per WP:UKSTATION "Weedon railway station" is the correct title. SK2242 (talk) 03:49, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
- @SK2242: This was a technical move request from WP:RM/TR (diff of request) that I ultimately handled on the understanding that it was a round-robin page move that the OP couldn't otherwise perform on their own. I don't really have an opinion one way or the other about which title it should be moved to, and I'm a bit hesitant to reverse the page move on my own without cause. That being said, you are more than welcome to start an WP:RM on the topic, if you'd like. From the naming convention that you linked to, it seems to me that it would be all but assured of passing as moved. OhKayeSierra (talk) 04:45, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
