Enbridge
[edit]Hi Oceanflynn, I have looked over your edits to the Enbridge article and you have added some good citations and provided some valuable data such as the amount of financial subsidies which have gone into the fuel cell project, but I am also concerned that you have deleted quite a lot of material, some with no real reason. Would you mind reverting it to how it was and reinserting some of the material you have come up with so that we maintain a bit more detail and article structure please? Hi Djapa84, Do you mean this phrase: "as well as green energy." I removed after reading that the fuel cell project was not a success, all the links I could find on green energy were only from Enbridge. I couldn't find any articles that referred to operational green energy. There was one CBC article about another announcement of a joint venture but nothing operational. Put it back if you want to but it would be better to have some other sources besides Enbridge, don't you think.
I also removed "The hybrid fuel cell power plants that are involved propose to generate electricity that will be delivered to wholesale grids." because once I had found the sources and realized it was not a success, it seemed unnecessary. If you can find a source and you think it is still useful, let's put it back.
I rarely delete other people's edits. I try to work them in to any revisions. I moved a lot of my own edits around so maybe that looked like deletions? I'm fairly detached about the editing process. Anything that improves an article is fine by me. Thanks, oceanflynn 03:48, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

In response to your comment regarding additions to Peace–Athabasca Delta
Three solid sources with quotations were used to add to this article.
In the wikipedia page entitled "Copyrighted material and fair use" the use of quoting with attributions is acceptable. It is not a copyright violation.
The following quote is from that page,
"When copyrighted text must be quoted, see the plagiarism and non-free content guidelines. Extensive quotation of copyrighted text is prohibited.
Although quoting involves copying of another's work without permission, it is generally considered one of the uses permitted under fair use in the United States. However, just as with fair-use images, fair-use quotation has limitations:
The copied material should not comprise a substantial portion of the work being quoted, and a longer quotation should not be used where a shorter quotation would express the same information. What constitutes a substantial portion depends on many factors, such as the length of the original work and how central the quoted text is to that work. In one extreme case, Harper & Row v. Nation Enterprises, 400 quoted words from a 500-page book were ruled to be infringement.[3] Editors are advised to exercise good judgment and to remain mindful of the fact that while brief excerpts are permitted by policy, extensive quotations are forbidden. It is obvious from the amount of time I take to manually input detailed references including author1, author2, ref name="", etc that robust and detailed references are crucial my way of working. In many of the articles I edit I use the "cite Harvard template" so I can add exact pages to references. When facts are stated without any sources, it makes it more difficult for students, for example, or anyone doing research, to follow through by reading the original references.
My additions may be an overuse of quotations where I used 3 sentences in quotation marks from one source. It is not a deliberate act of copyright violation.oceanflynn

- Thanks Hwy43. I need to use the more detailed templates in order to have page numbers and more efficient access to dates without lengthy repetitions of referenced materials. Numerous featured articles use the sfn, harv etc. A lot of the content I use is not just on one web page or url. It takes a lot of effort to use exact page numbers but it is crucial in finding an exact citation reference for retrieval. In earlier stages of wiki life long learning, I have had my own manually (Author date:page number) removed from articles because they were seen as cluttered or not wikified, losing valuable nformation. Knowing a date, or statistic or quote comes from a report or thesis doesn't help much if you want to confirm it, unless the page number is indicated. Also I would like to see dates in time-sensitive article texts more often.
- Hwy43 (talk) was right. In 2013 in order to have page numbers for each citation when available and to have a reference list in alphabetical order, I began to use a "convoluted" and "exotic" citation method" using Sfn. Then I found the rp|16 page reference page template, so elegant and efficient. I realized that as I tried to insert content from one article to a related article, finding the full reference using the {{sfnRef}} template, was more work than it was worth. At some point I also began to use ProveIt. I even revisited some of my older edits and replaced the more {{sfnRef}} with the simpler, and "adequately satisfactory Template:Citation." Hwy43 (talk)

Hi Rick, You've contributed some very valuable editing to wikipedia and your user page has lots of useful tips. I am also intrigued by mind-mapping tools and would really like to see more wikipedia applications in terms of Risk Management, Financial Instruments, etc. Their rhizomic interconnections do not fit well into tables.
I agree with you that ERNs deserves an article in the long term. I think there will continue to be robust reference resources on ERNs available with different points of view. I added the content to the Systemically important financial institution article in its own anchored section Equity Recourse Notes with a future Equity Resource Notes article in mind. There were other options, such as Convertible bond, where it logically belongs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book:Financial_Derivatives, but Convertible bond has an editorial technical alert, only one reference. The Convertible bond article is not as strong an article as Systemically important financial institution which also has very good coverage with a 90-day page view of over 5000.
I might work on one or two of the following as time permits but I am quite detached from my contributions and other editors may disagree.
- Add ERNs as subsection to the Convertible bond article.
- Leave ERNs content on the SIFI article with more editing.
- Start a ERNs separate article
- CoCos redirect to the Convertible bond subsection
- Create multiple links

- Hi there Oceanflynn. I have done some corrections to the system as examples. The Author names have to be in the format | first= | last = for the system to pick it up. If there's multiple authors, all have to be listed. If the author name or publication date is unknown, you have to specify exactly how you are listing the citation using the {{sfnRef}} template. I have done some fixes as examples. My preference is to use the {{sfn}} template over the {harvnb}, because it automatically collates identical citations, and the <ref> tags are not needed. There's a fact sheet atUser:Diannaa/Citation templates to help you get started. - Which of the edits favoured the article Caribou? I removed the section entitled Bibliography because there was only one item in it which was already in the references. I believe I created that section at one time and put that item in myself. You had commented that the references were a mess and I was trying to tidy them up, particularly any items that I had edited in originally. I removed the section entitled Caribou-specific links (North America) and copied and pasted the three items in that section to the general External Links section to declutter. Just as you spent a lot of time creating and contributing to the article Reindeer hunting in Greenland, I have spent a lot of time creating and contributing to the article Caribou (North America). Problems arose when it was renamed simply Caribou by another editor. This article on reindeer was criticized for being too North American centric and I have been editing it ever since to add new content and references that are not North America centric and removing those that are to the article Caribou (North America). Suggestions have been made on the Caribou talk page that elements from the Reindeer article have been copied from it. In most cased I wrote the original copied material and have been re-editing it in both articles so the content reflects the North American context or the Eurasian context. I don't think this is a COI issue since I am quite open about the intentions. Is there a problem with the caption on the image you use in your Reindeer hunting in Greenland? The photo of a porcupine caribou or Grant's caribou (Rangifer tarandus granti) taken by Dean Biggins of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Alaska is by far one of the best photos of caribou I have seen. But you use this image in an article about barren-ground caribou (Rangifer tarandus groenlandicus) in Reindeer hunting in Greenland with no reference to Alaska. I think this is the issue. Caribou refer to only a small number of subspecies and a number of ecotypes in North America. Reindeer refer to other subspecies and ecotypes in Eurasia. If we don't caption images carefully the content becomes confused. When someone has just read an article about caribou they should not be diverted to an article about reindeer. In the Inuit Circumpolar Conference they use both terms reindeer and caribou, depending on the country discussed. For what it is worth, I suggest you slow down on this. The matter you added on NCoV virus has nothing to do with actual intellectual property nor its enforcement -- it is worry over what might happen. It is no kind of actual "case study" much less a "challenging" one. Likewise, the work on H5N1 has nothing to do with intellectual property -- that has everything to do with a conflict between academic freedom and security (ultimately, national security in the country where the work was done). That too should be deleted from this article. A "challenging case study" might be something like the Myriad case, where there is actual conflict over intellectual property. Hi Oceanflynn. So you are clearly worked up about the cost of orphan drugs. Cost is an issue, but the content you are writing is, to be frank, relentlessly POV that the cost is a bad thing. Please try to write NPOV content - you are not thinking at all, about the fact that orphan drug laws have been passed because ... people die, in terrible ways, often as children, with no options. There are legit concerns, and there is no doubt that pharma has folllowed Genzyme's model in a big way which raises questions about the cost to society. But please try to edit in a NPOV way. Thanks. Hi Jytdog, Thanks for following my additions to articles related to orphan drugs. I have recently added orphan drugs to my list of topics I follow and contribute to in Wikipedia and will continue to do so. When I choose a topic, I invest in it until I feel I have covered as much content as I can at any given time with the time resources available to me. I watch for updates and changes over the years. Like any seasoned researcher I use robust sources that are fully referenced. I also add as many perspectives as possible when reliable resources are available. I have access to academic peer-reviewed discipline-based journals and I comfortably read across a number of disciplines thanks to formal education. Every topic has a multiple dimensions including but not excluded to social, economic, financial, ecological, historical, ethical, legal, cultural... This includes topics in the field of medicine. While aspects of the science may move more slowly, these dimensions can change constantly and their inclusion and recording is part of a holistic, complete article and will not be included in discipline-centred scientific or medical journals for example. One of the roles of Wikipedia is to record history-in-the-making. We don't need to wait until it is in the history books before including unfolding stories. When an issue related to any field— whether it is medicine or ecology— is going through changes not covered in its own specific scientific literature, it is incumbent upon serious editors to reveal as much as possible by editing in and citing solid content from robust sources. I have learned through my 10,000+ edits contributed through the years to depend on content in peer-reviewed discipline-based journals and in publications such as The Economist, the New York Times, CBC, BBC, federal, provincial/state government and/or municipal Hansards, etc, reports, departmental reviews, international NGOs, major banks reports by their economists, Forbes, Bloomberg, scientific reports commissioned by governments and major NGOs among others When available on a given topic, I read and access Phd dissertations, MA theses etc (preferably the more recent) for their bibliographies. I read full reports when available online to follow-up on stories headlined in The Economist, or the NYT for example.
I have noticed in the hundreds of articles I have worked on that there are always a few that are overseen by a small group of assertive editors who are unwelcoming to editors who are not in their "group." I prefer to leave these articles alone and create new ones that allow the full content with citations to be added.
Now that I have taken an interest in the unfolding of the story of orphan drugs, I will find ways to add content as it becomes available to Wikipedia. I consider my Wikipedia editing to be successful when I have no messages in my talk pages because I work hard to follow all Wikipedia guidelines and to optimize use and constantly improve my use of Wikipedia tools. Recently I spent hours cleaning up dozens of references in another WikiProject Medicine article that had been added by another editor who did not know how to use the |authors= or |first=, |last= in the citation template. Instead of thanks I received a message about the validity of these sources, all peer-reviewed citations. However, the editor did such a fine job of cleaning up the article that I was grateful. The end result was a much improved article on a topic that is currently widely in the news and will continue to be for some time.
I have no problem with my content being edited removed if the team deems it to be someway inappropriate and there is a solid academic argument for its removal.Oceanflynn (talk) 14:59, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
In regards to the material based on the 2014 Evaluate Pharma publication[1] any removal of the content would require a rebuttal with full citations for each point argued by Hadjivasiliou. If you do a very basic Google scholar search for orphan drugs you will find that the economic challenges mentioned above are listed as issues of concern to policy-makers globally and they will only become intensified. This deserves a space in a well-rounded Wikipedia article.

Hi, before today, I had never heard the term "Life science industry" (now corrected to "Life sciences industry". I guess you are talking about the biotechnology industry. In any case, you have been adding this cat to a number of articles where it clearly doesn't belong. Up till now, I have removed it from several academic journal articles and most recently from the article pharmacogenomics. If a field of scientific endeavor like that belongs in this cat, then any article from biology to molecular genetics and botany would fall into this cat. Tod deserved an article. I created a talk page for her article which includes a bibliography that has not been incorporated into her article. Would the AGO and/or NGC consider asking Tod for permission to make photos available with a Creative Commons license so they can be included in Wikimedia and therefore the article?
I hope the new editors felt welcomed. I appreciate the way Wikipedia works with many editors correcting and improving articles. But for someone just starting it may be off-putting to have huge notices on your edits. It isn't personal and over time they will learn how to avoid them. I use the lack of comments, deletions and corrections as an indicator of progress. - Thanks -Lucas559 (talk) You are right that content in the article Pharmacy benefit management needs to be revisited, inline citations from original sources added and lots of paraphrasing to be done. However, I am not the editor or editors who added the questionable material you mentioned in the section covering litigation over PBM practices in 2004. This content, that seems to be plagiarized, has been in the article since at least January 17, 2014. My edits were done from November 1 to November 5, 2015. I found the direct quote in this 2008 publication and I added the quotes and the inline citation with page number using ProveIt.[1]: 53
- Medco also "paid Massachusetts $5.5 million to settle allegations that the company pocketed millions of dollars in rebates from drug companies that should have been passed down to the state."
In November 2015 I was concerned about the lack of inline citations in this article in general so I searched for sources and added the quotation marks and references where I could find them. I am pleased that Ithenticate did such a good job in finding the cut-and-paste but that error was made long before I made my contributions.
I am extremely attentive to citations as seen in my edit summaries and my history of editing. I am quite appreciative when another editor improves on content I have added. Wikipedia is amazing.
It was a good step on your part to remove the content until it has been paraphrased and/or quotations and inline citations added. By the way I could not access the www.all-business.com article using this phrase that was cited by Ithenticate so it is difficult to say who published this sentence first, Finkelstein and Temin or all-business?
This topic is so important and it is great to meet another very conscientious editor working on it. The 2004 litigation should definitely be in the article and I did find a great New York Times 2004 article on it. I might work on that at some time.Oceanflynn (talk) 03:46, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

In addition, just for future reference, a non-free book cover such as this is generally only considered OK for use in a stand-alone article about the book itself and not in other articles, unless the cover art itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary, per WP:NFC#cite note-2. A stand-alone article about a book is considered to provide the "contextual significance" needed by it's cover art to satisfy WP:NFCC#8 whereas usage in other articles needs to be decorative and not necessary. Finally, usage in image galleries is also considered to be decorative per WP:NFG and is also generally not considered to be sufficient to satisfy NFCC#8. Wikipedia editorial voice at Sweden-bashing
[edit]Hi there. I see you've been editing the article on Sweden-bashing rather aggressively during the deletion discussion. There's nothing wrong with that, but in so doing, you are making some of the existing problems with the article worse. In particular, you are taking sources where a single commentator is making a claim, and then presenting the claim in Wikipedia's voice instead of identifying the person who made it. This should only be done if the view is so widely accepted that nobody is likely to dispute it. The material should be reflected the same way in the lead—i.e. if the sourcing only supports an article-body claim that Commentator X has espoused View Y, View Y should not be presented in the lead without some kind of attribution, even if the view is presented with attribution further below in the article body. BTW, I just finished expanding Women's March on Portland. I've requested a copy edit from the Guild of Copy Editors, and nominated the article for Good status. I requested feedback from editors at WikiProjects Oregon and Women in Red, which resulted in a talk page discussion that turned sideways. I began a short editing session on Nunes memo at 04:23, February 3, 2018 by filling in bare urls. I made a series of 9 or 10 short edits with no deletions or changes in date formats.
However, at 04:42 something strange happened. Another editor made extensive changes including:
- changing this template pp-protected|reason=Persistent to this disruptive editing|expiry=06:57, 28 February 2018|small=yes from this pp-protected|reason=Persistent disruptive editing|expiry=06:57, February 28, 2018|small=yes
- changing the dating format to date=2018-01-27 in many references. My default, if I am the first editor, is usually February 2, 2018.
- deleting the See also content
- making extensive edits including adding wikilinks, inline edits, removal of references, etc. resulting in the deletion of 2,055 bytes!
These edits were listed under my user name with my edit summary (Memo released inline edit inline citation). How can all these changes be shown in the history under my User name?

This edit on Nunes memo was made under my user name but I did not make the edits. Edits included changing the template from pp-protected|reason=Persistent to this disruptive editing|expiry=06:57, 28 February 2018|small=yes from this pp-protected|reason=Persistent disruptive editing|expiry=06:57, February 28, 2018|small=yes; changing the dating format from the article's standard in a number of references, and making extensive edits including adding wikilinks, inline edits, removal of references, etc. resulting in the deletion of 2,055 bytes which included the "See also" content. User MrX, who pointed out the edits which were disruptive, suggested it may be an "unresolved edit conflict or possibly you edited a previous revision of the article (I've done both plenty of times). Of course, it could also be an issue with the MediaWiki software and/or the database." I changed my password. It is quite disturbing as reputation is important to me. Do you have any suggestions? I am requesting a second opinion on the decision to maintain blacklisting status of Homeless Hub. In November 2017, I attempted unsuccessfully to have Homeless Hub removed from the blacklist status it was assigned in 2010. Following the rejection, I requested on the talk page that there be more investigation by other administrators. I did not understand the process so my November request remained unanswered.
Homeless Hub is an organization founded and directed by Stephen Gaetz OC, a York University professor who has received the the Order of Canada, one of Canada's highest civilian honours, is director of Homeless Hub. He is also the director of the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness, and is one of 13 experts on the Government of Canada's Canada's Advisory Committee on Homelessness. This is his biography on the Canadian government's website. Note that Alex Himelfarb, director of the Canadian Homelessness Research Network and Tim Richter are also on the list. In his profile, Gaetz is named as the Director of the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness and the Homeless Hub. The office of the Canadian Homelessness Research Network is located on the 6th Floor York Research Tower at York University, Toronto, Canada. CHRN has received funding from the Government of Canada’s Homelessness Partnering Strategy and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. Carbon price
[edit]Hi there. I just noticed the article Carbon price (Canada) that you created. I've had a similar article in my userspace for a few days (see User:Mindmatrix/Skunkworks/Carbon tax (Canada)). I'm now trying to decide whether to keep mine as a separate article (specifically about the tax), or integrate it into the broader article you wrote. Ideas? Note that if we keep my article too, we'd probably have to shift some content between these two. Mindmatrix 19:26, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
- By the way, could you clean up that article a bit. There are a lot of sentences containing quotations with no citations (any sentence with a quotation must have a citation following it - putting it at the end of a paragraph is not sufficient). There are also some quotations which aren't closed, for example "about $69 million a year for gasoline... and "new source of revenue for the government... - both sentences end without closing the quotation (there are more in the text). Could your more focused article specifically about the tax, be renamed, Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act?
I am sure there is a way to keep both articles with some shifting and sharing of the content. I am open to suggestions and collaboration. I am an inclusionist.

On August 6, 2018, I created my sandbox article Carbon tax (Canada) as a fork from the article Carbon tax. I worked on it regularly since then. On New Years Eve, I uploaded the contents of sandbox article Carbon tax (Canada) to the main article space Carbon price (Canada) as my last Wikipedia edit in 2018. While not complete, it was 34,523 bytes long and had 46 references. I changed the name from "tax" to "price" as the more inclusive term and the one used by OECD, etc.Oceanflynn (talk) 20:39, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
