Welcome

Welcome!

Hello, OSborn, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. Again, welcome! I'm glad you are starting as a new page patroller :) -Domthedude001 01:49, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Yup! It's fun! Thanks, OSbornarf 01:54, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Hey there, I noticed you tagged the page Dr. Mark Hamilton as being possibly unnotable. If you look here you will find this statement: 'With significant roles in notable films, television, stage performances, and other productions.' Do you think this will cover this presenter as he is the presenter of a radio show on BBC Radio 1? If not, I will go any try and find some other proof that he is notable :P Thanks, Tiddly-Tom 19:08, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Oh, here is a bit of news containing him, I am not sure whether of not it is worth including in the article though. Tiddly-Tom 19:15, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, most of the refs seem to be from the BBC itself, so I think he would need an external source for notability to be established (i.e., a major British website, magazine, newspaper, etc?) OSbornarf 19:31, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Just found another reference here and added to article. Is this enough or want more? :P Tiddly-Tom 19:34, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Looks good enough for me. (removing the possibly nn) OSbornarf 19:35, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Main thing I was afraid of was just another page about some radio host, you see. OSbornarf 19:36, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Absolutely, I was not criticizing you. I would probably do the exactly the same thing if I was in your situation (used to request CSD, but now moved onto just reverting vandalism). Keep up the good work, Tiddly-Tom 19:40, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! I'm trying to patrol new pages for nonsense and attack pages and the like. Have fun editing! OSbornarf 19:46, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello => Ajax-browser

I mainly contribute on French History, Chinese History, and Chinese Calligraphy articles, this "software stub" is my first one. Can you give me some advice to make it more "standard".

I'm currently writing some question in the talk page (readable in 5 mins). Yug (talk) 05:50, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi! Well, a relatively comparable page would be PhpBB (internet forum software.) I can't really find the URL for Ajax-browser- is it here? OSbornarf 05:58, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
(note: replied to a few questions at Talk:Ajax-browser. OSbornarf 06:03, 22 September 2007 (UTC) )
Ok, thanks for your help ! but I will continue an other day, that's enough time lost for today. ;)
Many thankls for your quick and efficient advices,
Yug (talk) 06:08, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
Your welcome, hope that helps. OSbornarf 06:09, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

About construction and runescape

It took the items which in members are only worth for fire training and low level fletch, and put em in the one thousnads, in a single day, and all the items dropped price, jsut as the dragon 2h did. but con put worthless items like planks, oak and normal logs and nails, which litterly had no use, and make them some of the most valued items in the game simply because they were in rare stock and all trees and rocks were being mined up simply for resources in the house. If this dosn't represent a massive shift and some inflation i don't know what does.--Cody6 22:26, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm a bit lost here... What? OSbornarfcontributionatoration 02:25, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Tells you tomorrow.--Cody6 03:18, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
In the economy of members runescape, we have a very small base, it is like, the free play economy, is a pyramid, well, were a upsidown pyramid, are base is small and weak but the farther up the strogner its suppsoed to be, items at the bottom are largly worthless items and items from free play, follow?
nails, and the first two free logs were all very worthless, with logsm sotly for fletching, but on may 31st, they went from almsot nothing to being worth over a thousand gp, in a signle day, less then 12 hours actuly? still follow?--Cody6 21:08, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Yes. There was a major spike in logs and the nails market? OSbornarfcontributionatoration 22:22, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

UWBaja Work In Progess

Hi, I am currently working on updating the University of Windsor Baja Page. I will put all of the stats into a Wiki Table. I am working on gathering all of the information to put it all together. I took out all of the < br / > tags. I am currently working on building my understanding on Wikipedia and i appreciate your feedback.Thanks.

--UWBaja 21:58, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Great :). Only thing I just want to say again is make sure text is written from a neutral point of view, of course! (No "our", etc) - If you have questions or need help with wiki syntax you might want to check out the Community Portal. (Lots of links to help and such there) Again, happy editing! OSbornarfcontributionatoration 22:04, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
I notice that you have noted that I have cleaned up most of the formatting issues. I am currently working on adding additional stats. As well as some pictures. When you note nn - i take it that this means not notable. In order for me to make this notable what do I need to show to solve this issue? Thanks. --UWBaja 02:36, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
Hi - yes, nn is wikilingo for not notable. Articles need to have reliable sources to establish notability. Online forums, blogs, and official sites generally aren't enough to establish notability, news sources and the like are most commonly used (when there is some sort of editorial oversight, I think) OSbornarfcontributionatoration 03:36, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for nominating this article. What a mess, what a potential lawsuit! I had to speedy it. Bearian 15:28, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

P.S. Are you sure you want to be a sysop? You have to "mop" up messes like this. Oy vey! Bearian 15:30, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
In a bit... Once I've learned how to use the mops, of course! :P OSbornarfcontributionatoration 15:18, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Free MMOGs List

Why did you twice delete Underlight: Shades of Truth from the list of free MMOGs? It was a commercially run MMORPG for 8 years that is now offered for free by a motivated group of players. It is totally free, no ads, no gimmicks. It's exactly what that list is meant for.?

Cheers, LucasTMW —Preceding unsigned comment added by LucasTMW (talkcontribs) 17:23, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_free_MMOGs&curid=5017064&diff=167671653&oldid=167660517
The entry (IRC) said it was started in October of 07. Generally as a rule of thumb if it doesn't have an article, it isn't on the list. OSbornarfcontributionatoration 21:23, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

It started in 1998, and was made free in Oct 2007. If you go to the Underlight page, you can read about the history of the game, and that the current free version was renamed.

Ah, it does have a page - if you link to that one (that exists) it'll probably be accepted. OSbornarfcontributionatoration 15:54, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

language identification

Noticed you tagging a couple of pages with notenglish. Thought this might be handy. Couple of sites you might want to look at for working out the language: TextCat XEROX Language Identifier ARendedWinter 15:37, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! That'll certainly help me out! OSbornarfcontributionatoration 22:10, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Just a quick question - did you have evidence to suggest that there would be canvassing or shenanigans at this AfD? I ask because that's why the notavote template is usually added to the debate, whereas you've added with the nomination. Thanks, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 15:55, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Let me add, I have no real objection - I was just curious. In order to get the formatting to look better, I moved the template within the nomination. Please correct my edit if I erred. Thanks, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 15:57, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
I suspect that SCAR has a very close forum following, and might be likely to attract canvassing. Haven't really seen any yet, but did want to be sure. OSbornarfcontributionatoration 17:59, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
(that's why I added the template; I'm not actually to sure where it is supposed to be on the page, myself. OSbornarfcontributionatoration 18:01, 3 January 2008 (UTC))
That makes perfect sense, and I have to agree with your reasoning. There isn't really a hard and fast rule on placing that template; It would have been fine, except for the previous AfD box. No problem at all. UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 18:11, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Stub tags

Please don't add {{stub}} tags to articles like Park Place Productions which already have a subject-specific stub tag. And if you're adding a stub tag, please add it at the end, as specified in WP:LAYOUT, not at the start of the article. Thanks. PamD (talk) 22:48, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

Whoops, I'll keep that in mind. Somehow missed the other stub tag on the page. OSbornarfcontributionatoration 23:38, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

I have been on a source hunt for the AfD and would ask you to revisit the discussion. Thanks, Bigger digger (talk) 00:38, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

Much obliged! Bigger digger (talk) 00:19, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

TDDS Technical Institute

I have reinstated the CSD that you removed from the article. According to WP:ORG, "Simply stated, an organization is a group of more than one person formed together for a purpose. This includes commercial and non-commercial activities, such as charitable organizations, educational institutions, hospitals, institutions, interest groups, social clubs, companies, partnerships, proprietorships, religious denominations, sects, etc." If I am reading this wrong or if there is another article that supersedes this inclusion please let me know. ttonyb (talk) 01:42, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

My rational was that a technical school (as this appears to be) would qualify as a school, which CSD A7 specifically exempts. OSbornarfcontributionatoration 01:47, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I have removed it. For some reason I thought the exemption was reversed. ttonyb (talk) 01:53, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Have I put enough on the page for you to remove the speedy deletion template? I will work on it some more later, but right now want to go eat dinner and I don't want it deleted in the meantime.--2008Olympianchitchat 01:35, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

The NYTimes ref probably disqualifies it from CSD, I must not have checked Google News when I tagged that. Sorry about that, I've removed the CSD. OSbornarfcontributionatoration 01:40, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

1saleaday

Thanks for your help with the 1saleaday references. I'm new to Wikipedia, at least the writing/editing side of the site, and I'm wondering why the article was marked for speedy deletion? Yes, it's about a company but I don't see how one can say the "article is written like an advertisement." There are numerous sources to anything written and the trademark dispute is of significant interest to many. Thanks, Mordechai10 (talk) 18:42, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

It looks like the person who added the speedy delete tag agrees with you: they removed it about 2 minutes after placing it. Apparently he thought the wording promotional enough to take to an AfD discussion. (There's a difference between Speedy Deletion and Article for Deletion, Speedy Deletion is uncontested and obviously inappropriate, whereas AfDs have a debate to determine whether an article should be deleted.) OSbornarfcontributionatoration 19:19, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Much appreciated explanation of the terms. I also noticed your comment on the 1saleaday Article For Speedy Deletion. This is simply because I'm new to this side of the site. I've already made two more edits to other articles and hope to find more ways to improve the content on Wikipedia. Mordechai10 (talk) 21:06, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your edits on the article. Looking at it now, I can see how the "Marketing Section" seemed promotional. Mordechai10 (talk) 19:43, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Article was once again nominated for deletion, see you said the nom has been blocked. What does that mean from here? When will the tag be removed? Thanks Mordechai10 (talk) 15:52, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

The nominator (nom) being blocked means that editor, Toolsavoid e, won't be back to comment on that AfD. (see Wikipedia:Blocking policy.) As for the AfD itself it will run for 7 days like the last one, unless it is relisted because of no participation. (You can comment keep on it if you want, there's nothing to keep you from participating in the new AfD.) OSborn arfcontribs. 21:35, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Reviewer permission

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 01:11, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

The February 2011 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive has begun!

Get going!

The February 2011 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive has begun. Please get started, as the drive aims to wikify over 2,000 articles this month. We're going to need all the firepower we can get, so please remind your friends to join up as well. In case you didn't know, wikification is fairly simple: just add wiki markup, links, and similar formatting. Thanks for joining; we're looking forward to an exciting time this month!

Hilton Family Tree

Thanks for your intervention at Hilton_Family. The (new) user had already reached 3RR but I was reluctant to deploy it, per WP:BITE, and also reluctant to appear to be seen as being draconian without some form of backup - which you have provided. As it happens, I think that the article should be at AfD anyway but I need to firm up my understanding of the policies before letting loose. - Sitush (talk) 00:19, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

regarding FreeHand

Hi, OSborn. I saw you commented on my big edit of the article about FreeHand. Yes I got that "Interest" warning, did very surprise me. Its right I am a long time user of that software and I am also co founder of FreeFreeHand who wants to revive it. Now, I am not trying to sell anything, just paying contribution to the application I love so much and use every day for the past 23 years - simply said, it deserves a better, more profound entry in Wikipedia. And who else would be able and willing to do such a work, if not the ones who know it best? However, I only put the facts in there. But see for yourself. Maybe the only point that may be problematic from the "interest warning" point of view may be that some references point to FreeFreeHand. Just because we are part of (if any tehere will be) future of FreeHand. But if thats a problem, I am willing to delete those of course. What do you think? Thü Hürlimann (talk) 21:57, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I see you cannot respond for the time being (being blocked and all), but something to remember is that Wikipedia is not for the promotion of your projects, groups, organizations, companies, or anything else really. Keep in mind that "promotion" doesn't necessarily mean selling someone something, promotion can be to raise awareness of a project, a person, a company, whatever; even if the person you're promoting it to might not be in a position to give you money. Pixelmetrics

Could you give some more solid, specific suggestions for improving the Pixelmetrix page??? I did a lot of editing already (adding 3rd-party sources and neutralizing the tone of the article. How come you still insist that it's 1. advertising 2. no 3rd-party sources 3. close connection. I appreciate your help. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Suksme (talkcontribs)

I have removed the 3rd party sources tag after taking a look over the article again. I should have used a partial revert to not readd that one. I am not removing the Advert and COI tags, however, because (1) the article still has promotional wording and "businessspeak" in, and (2) it is clear your account is only being used for promotional purposes on this article and I suspect you have some sort of COI. OSborn arfcontribs. 07:27, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. 1. which words exactly? 2. I'm a college business student doing a project and this is my very first time editing a wikipedia article. Of course I want to make sure that the article achieves perfect neutrality because I move on to other articles.

I just removed the list of awards. Please take a look again! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Suksme (talkcontribs)

It looks like some other editors are helping to clean up the advertising on that page, I suppose they'll remove the Advert tag from the page once their done. OSborn arfcontribs. 23:06, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

CSD

When you tag something as a CSD G12, such as Miss dolly dollars, please remember to include the url of the site being copied.--SPhilbrickT 00:57, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Miss dolly dollars

Hello OSborn, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Miss dolly dollars, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: You have not indicated where this page has been copied from, and I cannot find any candidates. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you.   -- Lear's Fool 02:56, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

The reason I tagged it G12 was because of the original content having a copyright notice; I realize now this probably wasn't the best tag for that page. Thanks, OSborn arfcontribs. 04:39, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
Oh, I didn't see that. How strange. Regardless, the copyright notice has been removed now, and it doesn't appear to be a copyright violation of anything else on the internet (I ran a manual CorenSearchBot search on it, and it came back clean). Thanks for the note.  -- Lear's Fool 05:12, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
