I suppose it doesn't matter if the second statement is deleted, although the sourced information at Members of the 39th Canadian Parliament and same-sex marriage makes it fairly clear the vote will probably not succeed.

Also, Canadian Catholics are generally more supportive of same-sex marriage than are many Canadian Protestant groups. CJCurrie 02:03, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Preview button

[edit]

I would like to thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. However, it is recommended that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. Thanks again. --Joe Jklin (T C) 07:00, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • What on Earth is this in reference to? I would like to thank you for frequenting my talk page. However, it is recommended that you actually make some reference to the article you're addressing (and no, I edit frequently, so linking to recent changes isn't appropriate. Also, when I edit for grammar, punctuation, etc., that isn't "clogging up" anything. It's improving the article in question. OBriain 11:46, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Keltik31 RfC

[edit]

Hello! Per your edit here; Goodlief was banned for trolling/vandalizing RfC pages. -- weirdoactor t|c -- 18:55, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yes, I see he has a temporary ban for 48 hours. I still don't find any connection to the RfC page and that user's right to include his view. From my understanding, a temporary ban does not retroactively proscribe the right to comment. Have I missed something? OBriain 19:03, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've examined the matter further and it even seems as though there is an ongoing dispute between Goodlief and MONGO, the editor who reverted the former's comments out after his ban took effect. OBriain 19:10, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

On a happier note, thanks for your kind words. I appreciate knowing that I did the right thing. (And, I found the neo-Nazi troll comment regrettable and unhelpful - but I wasn't quite sure what to do about it.) - Eron Talk 01:52, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Diocesan Infobox

[edit]

To the Members of the WikiProject Catholicism

If you have the time, would you check out User:SkierRMH/Diocese_Infobox and give me some feedback! Thanks much!!

Boston Slang revision

[edit]
  • I will do it. I'm fairly new to WP as a registered editor although I certainly viewed and edited before creating an account. Nonetheless, this will be a good project for me to get a sense of how a number of Wiki conventions work. OBriain 09:08, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey O'Brian. How's the revision going? I bet its turning out tougher than you thought (Wikipedia articles always are).

One thing: I noticed you are a Galway native. While anyone living in Boston encounters Boston slang, with all due respect I'm not sure that someone not born and raised in the city (or perhaps studying the subject of Boston slang at a graduate-level or above) will be able to sort through all the bogus info now contained in the article.

I write many articles about Ireland and have lived there, but I wouldn't take on the task of discussing certain esoteric subjects regarding Ireland. You did mention you are pretty new to Wikipedia and I am wondering if you are sure you are up to the task of this specific project.

I hope the inquiry does not offend; it is not intended to. Beannachtaí na Nollag; Athbhliain faoi shéan agus faoi shona duit. HouseOfScandal21:00, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello House of Scandal, thank you for your message; I am not offended at all. I was born in Galway in the western Gaeltacht to an Irish father and an American mother (albeit of Irish origin) then teaching linguistics at NUI. We came to the US in 1977 to Charlestown. I can't say that I know of a graduate degree in slang anywhere (I was an American Studies major at BU) :P but I'm confident I have a fair enough knowledge of our city's slang having lived here uninterrupted for the past 30 years. My only actual concern is that with the holidays I may not be able to work much on it until January. You're welcome to take it if you feel you're better suited to the task, otherwise, I have no reservations. There is a link to my progress -which is meager so far- on my user page. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you as well. OBriain 05:36, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll let you have at it; sounds like you're qualified. You might be even a little more qualified than some born-Bostonians since you have a second point of reference. BTW, I’m a little familiar with your native region as my granddad was an Ó Cahane from An Cheathrú Rua. Best wishes. HouseOfScandal06:11, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:GWUSeal.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:GWUSeal.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:19, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adrianne Wadewitz Memorial edit-a-thons

[edit]
Adrianne Wadewitz edit-a-thons in Southern New England

As you may have already heard, the Wikipedia community lost an invaluable member of the community last month. Adrianne Wadewitz was a feminist scholar of 18th-Century British literature, and a prolific editor of the site. As part of a worldwide series of tributes, New England Wikimedians, in conjunction with local institutions of higher learning, have created three edit-a-thons that will be occurring in May and June. The events are as follows:

We hope that you will be able to join us, whether you are an experienced editor or are using Wikipedia for the first time.

If you have any questions, please leave a message at Kevin Rutherford's talk page. You can unsubscribe from future notifications for Boston-area events by removing your name from this list.

Hi, at Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge we're striving to bring about 10,000 article improvements and creations for the UK and Ireland and inspire others to create more content. In order to achieve this we need diversity of content, in all parts of the UK and Ireland on all topics. Eventually a regional contest will be held for all parts of the British Isles, like they were for Wales and the Wedt Country. We currently have just over 1900 articles and need contributors! If you think you'd be interested in collaborating on this and helping reach the target quicker, please sign up and begin listing your entries there as soon as possible! Thanks.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:42, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
