Catholic-hiearchy template

[edit]

I object to migrating references to this template. Instead, the references should be deleted, because catholic-hierarchy.org is not a WP:RS. It is frequently abused as one but it has no editorial oversight or reputation for fact-checking, and indeed has many factual errors as it puts bishops in their sees before they are installed, or even ordained! So I think an automatic process should go through and convert these to, say, {{citation needed}} in need of a better source for corroboration. Elizium23 (talk) 18:06, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Elizium23, I am not removing or adding references. I am just changing it to a different template made for this specific purpose. The references already exists in the article. Also I personally think it is a reliable source. Once the records are officially published in a press release by the Vatican, a person becomes "See-Elect", it updated in the website (There is a difference between Appointed and Ordained). I think it is designed to be that way on purpose. This is a non-primary, 3rd party resource, which is an added advantage as that is a requirement for being a reliable source. The data is taken from the official source, if there is any discrepancy, it is scribal error alone (which I have yet to see). Th source is mentioned at the foot of every page. It is managed by a single person, so I personally do not that one or two errors should lead to disregard the entire site. At least for historical bishops, it is a reliable source. (Can you mention any errors that you think is note worthy?) The author of the website is also a Wikipedian (User:Dcheney). He has volunteered to clarify any doubt regarding the website (here and here). In any case, Please start a discussion in some relevant talk page so that the community could decide. You should inform User:Dcheney, so that he can explain his position in this matter. (Also even if the community decided against using this website, wouldn't it be easier to process if all the references point to {{Catholic-hierarchy}}?) --Jayarathina (talk) 19:00, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The onus is not on me to prove it is unreliable. The onus is on you to prove its reliability. This means that it has a reputation for fact-checking and editorial oversight. I see no evidence of either one. Elizium23 (talk) 19:02, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Elizium23, I thought that was exactly what I did in my above reply, reasons why it is a reliable source. Any way can you please give proof for your statement: reputation for fact-checking and editorial oversight --Jayarathina (talk) 19:05, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Elizium23, Please do start a discussion regarding this in some relevant talk page and ping me the link so that I can know the result of the discussion, to decide whether to proceed or not. --Jayarathina (talk) 19:27, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, dearest Jayarathina, how are you?

John the Baptist info box

[edit]

Hello Jayarathina, I have restored the Christian leader info box in article: John the Baptist. You had this edit summary: "why was the info box changed? tl christian leader is for bishops. He was not even alive when Christianity was started" [1]. Can you please clarify that the info box I restored back is just for bishops only and alive only Christians. Also, Please explain to me when Christianity started with proper sources because that's an interesting claim you stated in your edit summary. If anything you stated in your edit summary is true, then other info boxes of Christian figures such as Paul the Apostle should be fixed. Cheers! — JudeccaXIII (talk) 21:30, 7 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@JudeccaXIII: I think {{infobox saint}} is more suitable for this article, rather than {{Infobox Christian leader}}. My rational is that Infobox Christian leader is designed for priests, bishops, popes and cardinals. (See abovestyle param in code of the template). John the Baptist is none of that. Saint Paul is a bishop. So, {{Infobox Christian leader}} is suitable for his page. But John the Baptist is not. Contrary to what you claim, {{infobox saint}} is not a Catholic infobox. See the talk page of the infobox, it is under the patronage of WikiProject Christianity, Just like Infobox Christian leader. Can I know what other justification you have for reverting to christian leader? Also you could have asked clarification before reverting it. [P.S If you have not noticed it already, the default color of the Christian leader info box is plum which is the color of the vestments of bishops.] --Jayarathina (talk) 04:52, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
mmm...I see... I thought the yellow was for Catholic saints. I'll restore back the original, Cheers! — JudeccaXIII (talk) 07:25, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Simple Horizontal timeline

[edit]

Hallo Jayarathina,

I have elaborated a timeline in User:Keysanger/sandbox#Simple Horizontal timeline and have some questions. Perhaps, you can help me.

  1. what is the template "navbar|Vietnam War graphical timeline|mini=1|style=float:left" for?, why was/is it there?
  2. "Tarapaca" is mounted in the title bar. How can I drag it down? or how can I make the row higher?
  3. Is there another trick to write a title at the left side of the graph? ("Presidents of ...", "Battles/Treaties") or at least to get rid of the "1878" and the arrow of "Battles/Treaties"?

Thanks in advance, --Keysanger (talk) 15:47, 27 March 2015 (UTC) --Keysanger (talk) 12:15, 28 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Keysanger: Hi, I am sorry for replying late. I hope you found answer to your first two questions. Regarding the third, if my understanding of your requirement is correct, the best you can do is this:
Presidents of Bolivia since 1879
Presidents of Chile since 1879

1879
1880
1881
1882
1883
1884
Main events of the War of the Pacific
If this is not what you want, please do let me know your precise requirement. --Jayarathina (talk) 18:58, 28 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Jayarathina,

Your proposal is better.

I created Module:Horizontal_timeline/sandbox and Module:Horizontal timeline/testcases, to test some others features. I try to figure the "shift" and "lift" out. I added, to the sandbox, a "arrli" parameter to lift the arrow down and up in a "notes" row, but it is possibly unnecessary. I will ask you again when I understand it a little bit more. Thanks again, --Keysanger (talk) 22:27, 28 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
