Could you please tell me why have you deleted the article about Soul Button?
Hello Northamerica1000, could you please tell me why have you deleted the article about Soul Button?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soul_Button
After I created the article over twenty days ago, it was reviewed and approved by Ser Amantio di Nicolao, who made over 3,090,500 contributions to Wikipedia and who created over 35,000 articles, which makes him the user with the highest number of contributions on Wikipedia.
Only a few days later the article was nominated for deletion by Ceethekreator.
I explained him why I think that Soul Button deserves to have a page on Wikipedia, because he is not just a DJ, but also an entrepreneur who runs a few record labels with many different artists.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Soul_Button
No one else participated in the discussion after that and since a week has passed, the discussion was relisted by RL0919.
Again a week has passed without anyone else saying anything against the article so Sandstein relisted it too.
One more week has passed without anyone else telling anything bad about the article and since the deletion discussions shouldn't be relisted for more than two times, I hoped that now the article will be live and that I will be able to continue contributing to Wikipedia.
But then I saw that you deleted the article without any message or explanation and without a consensus.
Could you please tell me the reason? Could you please take the article back online?
Thank you!

- Hello NMGS19: The article was soft-deleted per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Soul Button, and as such, WP:REFUND is applicable relative to your request above for the article to be restored. The Soul Button article and its talk page have been restored. North America1000 08:38, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

New Page Review newsletter July-August 2019
Hello Northamerica1000,
- WMF at work on NPP Improvements
More new features are being added to the feed, including the important red alert for previously deleted pages. This will only work if it is selected in your filters. Best is to 'select all'. Do take a moment to check out all the new features if you have not already done so. If anything is not working as it should, please let us know at NPR. There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.
- QUALITY of REVIEWING
Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.
- Backlog
The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.
- Move to draft
NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.
- Notifying users
Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.
- PERM
Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.
- Other news
School and academic holidays will begin soon in various places around the Western world. Be on the lookout for the usual increase in hoax, attack, and other junk pages.
Our next newsletter might be announcing details of a possible election for co-ordinators of NPR. If you think you have what it takes to micro manage NPR, take a look at New Page Review Coordinators - it's a job that requires a lot of time and dedication.

Recent changes
- For event organizers, if you request a temporary lift of the IP cap for mass account creation, this will now also raise the edit rate limit for those new accounts at the event, which will prevent another bottleneck. [5]

Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 9 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 10 July. It will be on all wikis from 11 July (calendar).
- The design of MediaWiki's software windows will change for desktop users. Layout will be simpler, buttons will be bolder and clearer, and close buttons will be just icons. This is like the mobile design. This will affect ContentTranslation, VisualEditor, TemplateWizard, and other tools. [7]

- A request for comment seeking to alleviate pressures on the request an account (ACC) process proposes either raising the account creation limit for extended confirmed editors or granting the account creator permission on request to new ACC tool users.
- In a related matter, the account throttle has been restored to six creations per day as the mitigation activity completed.
- The scope of CSD criterion G8 has been tightened such that the only redirects that it now applies to are those which target non-existent pages.
- The scope of CSD criterion G14 has been expanded slightly to include orphan "Foo (disambiguation)" redirects that target pages that are not disambiguation pages or pages that perform a disambiguation-like function (such as set index articles or lists).
- A request for comment seeks to determine whether Wikipedia:Office actions should be a policy page or an information page.
- The Wikimedia Foundation's Community health initiative plans to design and build a new user reporting system to make it easier for people experiencing harassment and other forms of abuse to provide accurate information to the appropriate channel for action to be taken. Community feedback is invited.
- In February 2019, the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) changed its office actions policy to include temporary and project-specific bans. The WMF exercised this new ability for the first time on the English Wikipedia on 10 June 2019 to temporarily ban and desysop Fram. This action has resulted in significant community discussion, a request for arbitration (permalink), and, either directly or indirectly, the resignations of numerous administrators and functionaries. The WMF Board of Trustees is aware of the situation, and discussions continue on a statement and a way forward. The Arbitration Committee has sent an open letter to the WMF Board.

Need your help!
Hi Northamerica1000, I am having issues with one area at Portal:Traditional African religions. I have already created the Selected articles archive page as well as the corresponding page layout. However, when I try to give a footer=More articles... instruction on the main page in order to link to the archive page, It does not link. Do you know how to fix this? Once I know how to fix this I should be able to do the same for the other relevant sections. Although the Selected biography section is showing Archive/Nominations - linking to the corresponding archive page, I had to manually do this on each selected bio. Obviously I need to change that once I figure out how to do it properly. If I'm not mistaken, I think the change should take place on the main page itself. However I am having problems with it. Please help! Thanks.Tamsier (talk) 09:15, 12 July 2019 (UTC)

Moving forward by removing the negative person
Perhaps best we try to have a conversation without that brown administrator jumping in and insulting everyone and saying the same thing over and over. Can't move forward when we have someone unwilling to hear others out and going out of their way to be combative. IRC chat might be a good way to see what proposals the community can move forward on. ----Moxy 🍁 21:47, 17 July 2019 (UTC)

- Since Northamerica1000 closed it as soft delete, just asking on their talk page probably would have been enough. If you want to work on it a little, I'd suggest getting it moved to your userspace. If you need any help, we have a guide to writing articles for new users and you can ask questions at the AfC help desk, as well as the Teahouse, Help desk or the Live Help IRC. Speedy deletion nomination of Category:NATO portal
A tag has been placed on Category:NATO portal requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Talk! 01:38, 31 July 2019 (UTC)

Future changes
- Today everyone can see IP addresses if someone edits without an account. In the future this could be more hidden. This is to protect unregistered editors so fewer can see their IP address. This would only happen after we make sure the tools for vandal fighting can still be effective. You can read more and comment.

Wyoming
The Wyoming MfD close interpreted WP:POG as defining "broad" to mean "attracting maintainers". For example, Portal:Earth had only 29 edits in ten years; therefore the Earth is by definition too narrow a topic to merit coverage.
I am also taking a semi-wikibreak, which will probably turn into retirement. I've enjoyed ten productive years here but the limitless time and energy going into destroying our work deters me from contributing further. I still follow conversations elsewhere and can at least promise moral support. Perhaps it is time to consider copying endangered pages, with appropriate attribution, to a place where others have no deletion rights. They would still be visible to external search engines and there is no Wikipedia search presence to lose. If all else fails, April's events inspire hope that the community has the courage to deal with personal attacks. All the best, Certes (talk) 00:08, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Certes: A subject area should be defined as the overall scope of available coverage on Wikipedia about a given topic. A subject area's broadness should not defined by the number of readers or maintainers a portal has. For example, per its present Revision history, the Physics article on Wikipedia does not attract a large number of maintainers, but it is certainly quite broad in topical scope. People would laugh heartily if the Physics article was nominated for deletion as lacking topical broadness because it is not edited regularly. Now, I know, it's an article, not a portal, but still. The syllogism of how WP:POG is worded is a bit absurd.
- Regarding portal deletion, I'm sort of waiting it out, and then will likely work to improve those that remain from time-to-time. North America1000 00:38, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
The continued enthusiasm amongst portalistas for retaining unmaintained portals is extraordinary to behold. It's also a significant factor in why the culling process has been so heated.
I have been astonished to see Wyoming being chosen as the venue for a big stand. It has the smallest population of any US state, barely more than County Cork, so it is unsurprising that it has attracted so little attention.
The story of en.wp portals could have been so very different if efforts had been concentrated on a small set of core portals, rather than spread out across this still-huge set of barely-maintained and barely-read. It's still not too late for portalistas to refocus. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 11:18, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
- Further reply to @Certes: Another notion is that it takes a lot more effort to create and maintain portals compared to working to have them deleted. For deletion, one only needs to devise a one-off nomination for MfD and then wait for 2-3 participants who typically !vote for deletion of portals. No Wikipedia:Collaboration is needed to attain deletion. Conversely, attempts to solicit collaborations for portals can be uphill, because 1) there are way lesser portal editors compared to article editors, 2) it can be difficult to find collaborators in the other namespaces, and portals are again, edited by lesser editors, 3) sometimes folks may collaborate and then move onto other things, take a break, retire, etc., and 4) attempts to solicit editors for collaboration may be met with disdain, in which long walls of text are then posted about other matters, bludgeoning the intent of the post and deterring others from reading and responding to the initial query (e.g. see this, from "Collaboration – Country and major geographical Portals" all the way down to the "Collaboration – Country and major geographical Portals (3.0)" section). Triaged subpage category
What is the point of that "Portals with triaged subpages from August 2019" category on Portal:Climbing? Is something wrong with the sub-pages? --Hecato (talk) 11:10, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Hecato: It's a subcategory of Category:Portals with triaged subpages, a maintenance category. I went ahead and created a page for the previously red-linked category, so it's now hidden on the portal page. Thanks again for volunteering your time to WP:IMPROVE Wikipedia's portal content. North America1000 12:14, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
- Ah okay, I was a bit confused about the category. I really think portals can be useful, I am sad to see Portal:Golf is about to go down the drain soon. It might have become useful with some more overhaul. Generally the pure sport portals (the ones that are left) could be more attractive to readers with a heavier focus on on-going competitions. Displaying recent competition results and event articles and such. Wikinews sadly appears to be kind of dead in the water, but Portal:Current events/Sports is pretty good on the ball and can be transcluded. I also thought about looking more into the issue of Portals being basically completely excluded from mobile views. Do you know if that was done on purpose? --Hecato (talk) 15:07, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Hecato: I don't know about the mobile viewing. I assume portals work, because I saw Moxy state somewhere that the portal links in articles only work on mobile views when the portal link is placed using inline wiki-markup. North America1000 05:54, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

Category:Cocktails with lemonade or Category:Lemonade cocktails? Зенитная Самоходная Установка (talk) 15:33, 31 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Зенитная Самоходная Установка: I'd probably stick with Category:Cocktails with lemonade, since other categories listed at Category:Cocktails by ingredient use this format. Cheers, North America1000 12:18, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
- Well, yeah, I was wondering if they should all be switched over or if we should stick with this format. Thus far, we haven't invested too deeply in the "cocktails with x" format, as a lot of cocktails haven't been categorized by ingredient yet. Зенитная Самоходная Установка (talk) 18:03, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Зенитная Самоходная Установка: May be best to leave well enough alone. If the category page names are changed, then someone will have to go back to all the articles listed under those categories and change them to the newly-named categories. Much work for not much reward, imo. North America1000 00:55, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's true, although they have pages like Beer cocktail instead of Cocktail with beer. Hmm. Зенитная Самоходная Установка (talk) 01:11, 7 August 2019 (UTC)
