Would you look at Portal:Malawi page history?
It's a bit different from the other portal reverts I've observed. You would know best what you intended. Thanks! BusterD (talk) 22:46, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hi BusterD: My preferred version of the portal exists here, the 22 September 2019 version of the portal. The two subsequent edits that occurred removed 59 new selected articles that were there, reverting back to the portal displaying only a meager three articles, which are viewable at Portal:Malawi/Featured article. The General images section was also removed. Neither of these removals were disclosed in the edit summaries that were left, which consisted of "Comment out stale and/or fake DYKs" and "remove missing DYKs".
- Furthermore, the DYKs that were removed were not "fake", which is discernable by noting the attribution to Wikipedia:Recent additions that is attributed to each one of them. It's possible that the subpages were not checked before the content was removed. Open the following pages for more information:
- Also, I don't consider portal DYK content to be stale, because they provide interesting factoids that can generate interest in topics. North America1000 23:19, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Also, for accuracy here, I had moved the three selected bio entries into the selected article section, to consolidate data. Those are viewable at Portal:Malawi/Featured biography. North America1000 23:31, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020
Hello Northamerica1000,
- Source Guide Discussion
The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.
- Redirects
New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.
- Discussions and Resources
- There is an ongoing discussion around changing notifications for new editors who attempt to write articles.
- A recent discussion of whether Michelin starred restraunts are notable was archived without closure.
- A resource page with links pertinent for reviewers was created this month.
- A proposal to increase the scope of G5 was withdrawn.
- Refresher
Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Nomination of Museum of Beer and Brewing for deletion
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Museum of Beer and Brewing is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Museum of Beer and Brewing until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Cardiffbear88 (talk) 17:32, 15 February 2020 (UTC)
Request
@Northamerica1000: you are invited to use refill that works, for the article Harry Anderson (artist) and the article Taiwan Adventist Hospital. Catfurball (talk) 19:00, 23 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Catfurball: Are you referring to User:Zhaofeng Li/reFill? From a cursory viewing, the sources in both articles appear to be in order. North America1000 23:22, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Northamerica1000: OK if you say so. Catfurball (talk) 16:31, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Catfurball: reFill typically doesn't do much when sources are already formatted, such as with the cite web template, etc. However, sure, the sources in these articles could be improved by using a full citation style. I sometimes use Citer to perform this. However, I don't have any interest in working on these articles at this time. North America1000 00:29, 8 February 2020 (UTC)

Idea for new community workspace
Hi. I would like to create some kind of collaborative workspace where coordinators or members of various WikiProjects would gather and provide updates and information on what is going on at each wikiproject, i.e. regarding their latest efforts, projects, and where interested editors can get involved.
You have been very helpful, so I wanted to get your brief input on whether you'd be interested in helping me to make this happen. I see a few possible options for making this happen, so I would like to get your input and feedback on this. which of the options below would you prefer? also, please reply to the brief questions below.
- Would you be interested in an idea of this nature?
- If so, which option below seems most feasible to you?
- Create a new page/talk page at the existing WikiProject Council, where members of various WikiProject can gather to offer updates, information and ideas on the latest efforts at each of their own WikiProject, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Town Hall.
- Create an entirely new WikiProject with an inclusive name such as
- Create a new collaborative page or forum, but not as a new WIkiProject, i.e. with some name like
- Create a new sub-page in my own userspace, such as User:Sm8900/Town Hall
- Create a subpage at an umbrella-type WikiProject that already covers a broad topical area, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject History/Town Hall
Please feel free to let me know what you think of this idea, and please let me know your preference, regarding the options above. if you do not see any need for this idea, that is totally fine. However, I think that the majority of editors lack awareness of where the truly active editing is taking place and at which WikiProjects, and I would like to do whatever I can to help make people more aware of where the activity is, what they can do to help, and also which areas of Wikipedia offer ideas and efforts that might help them in their own editing activities. Please feel free to let me know. --Sm8900 (talk) 05:23, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Sm8900: A lot of interesting and functional ideas here. I will need some time to think all of this over, but will reply in the very near future with my ideas. North America1000 20:48, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Sm8900: I see you've started out with the creation of Wikipedia:Town Hall. Will this cover matters on Wikipedia in addition to Wikiprojects? If you're interested in creating a forum only for WikiProjects, it may be wise to set it up as a Wikiproject itself, such as Wikipedia:WIkiProject Town Hall you denoted above. A central location for Wikiprojects only to provide information is a great idea, and would serve to keep the forum focused on specific matters, rather than upon any matters. North America1000 00:12, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
- thanks so much!! I agree with your idea to some extent. however there are a few drawbacks to setting up a WikiProject for this right now, as stated below.
- firstly, we don't have a consensus for this yet. I truly appreciate your helpful support on this; I simply need a few more editors to express active interest, in order for this to be set up with some real chance for growth.
- actually, I don't mean for this to be only for WikiProjects. I mean for it to be for any group project. however, setting this up as a WikiProject would be fine with me. however, I still need a few more editors to support this idea, before I can do so.
- right now, I am keeping this page as a draft in my own user space. that way, I can give this idea time to develop, and allow the discussion to develop positively. I think that is the best way to allow this to be a healthy and positive discussion.
- by the way, Nick Moyes is an admin here who has been extremely helpful. I have pinged him from the page that I set up as a draft. If he provides more insights, I will let you know.
- feel free to let me know any other comments that you may have. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 01:30, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
- by the way, if you know of any other editors whom you think might like this idea, feel free to send them over. right now, we still need at least a few more editors to support this, in order to give this any practical means to be a real resource. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 01:32, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
- thanks so much!! I agree with your idea to some extent. however there are a few drawbacks to setting up a WikiProject for this right now, as stated below.

Problems
- Readers who were not logged in briefly saw the interface in a language decided by their browser. It should normally be in the language of the wiki. This happened for a short period of time last week. This was because of a bug. [10]
Changes later this week
- If you forget your password you can ask for a new one to be sent to your email address. You need to know your email address or your username. You will now be able to choose that you need to enter both your email address and your username. This will be a preference. This is to get fewer password reset emails someone else asked for. [11]
- When you asked for a new password you could see if the username didn't exist on Special:PasswordReset. Now the page will show the username you entered and tell you an email has been sent if the username exists. This is for better security. [12]
- On Special:WhatLinksHere you can see what other pages link to a page. You can see if the link is from a redirect. You can now see which section the redirect links to. [13]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 3 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 4 March. It will be on all wikis from 5 March (calendar).
Future changes
- The developers are working on a new interface to solve edit conflicts on talk pages. You can give feedback. [14]
- There is a vote on the creation of a new user group called abuse filter manager. The vote runs from March 1 to March 31 on Meta.
-
wgMFSpecialCaseMainPage
was used for the mobile site. It was deprecated in 2017. It will stop working in April. Wikis should see if they use it. If they do they should fix it. You can read more and ask for help. This affects 183 wikis. There is a list. [15]

GOCE March newsletter
Guild of Copy Editors March 2020 Newsletter
Hello and welcome to the March newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since December 2019. All being well, we're planning to issue these quarterly in 2020, balancing the need to communicate widely with the avoidance of filling up talk pages. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below. Election results: There was little changeover in the roster of Guild Coordinators, with Miniapolis stepping down with distinction as a coordinator emeritus while Jonesey95 returned as lead coordinator. The next election is scheduled for June 2020 and all Wikipedians in good standing may participate. January Drive: Thanks to everyone for the splendid work, completing 215 copy edits including 56 articles from the Requests page and 116 backlog articles from the target months of June to August 2019. At the conclusion of the drive there was a record low of 323 articles in the copy editing backlog. Of the 27 editors who signed up for the drive, 21 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. February Blitz: Of the 15 editors who signed up for this one-week blitz, 13 completed at least one copy edit. A total of 32 articles were copy edited, evenly split between the twin goals of requests and the oldest articles from the copy-editing backlog. Full results are here. March Drive: Currently underway, this event is targeting requests and backlog articles from September to November 2019. As of 18 March, the backlog stands at a record low of 253 articles and is expected to drop further as the drive progresses. Awards will be given to everyone who copyedits at least one article from the backlog. Help set a new record and sign up now! Progress report: As of 18 March, GOCE copyeditors have completed 161 requests in 2020 and there was a net reduction of 385 articles from the copy-editing backlog – a 60% decrease from the beginning of the year. Well done and thank you everyone! Election reminder: It may only be March but don't forget our mid-year Election of Coordinators opens for nominations on 1 June. Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought of helping out at the Guild, or know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here. Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Baffle gab1978, Reidgreg, Tdslk and Twofingered Typist To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

Deletion of page Thomas Lehmann
Hello, I am Tom Lehmann, game designer and subject of a wikipedia page Thomas Lehmann that was deleted by you on 22 Jan. 2020.
After I was alerted to this, I looked at the deletion log and discussion. The AFD request was made by Beemer69, who is, according to his own page, a video game -- not a board game -- enthusiast. While a few video games have been made of my board games, the majority of my work has been in board games, a field that he does not appear to be well versed in. Further, it was included in the Video games-related deletion discussion, which is not my professional field.
His request begins: "Non-notable game designer with no third-party coverage." This is incorrect. Within the board-game field, I have received multiple awards and numerous nominations for my games, most notably for Race for the Galaxy in 2007 and most recently the 2020 As D'Or (Best Expert Game) for my 2019 game Res Arcana. On the site Boardgamegeek, I have 6 games in the top 1000 all-time games.
The user Australianblackbelt then comments "There is nothing on the internet referring to the subject". This is incorrect. A simple google search of "Tom Lehmann board games" will produce over 1.4M results, many of them articles about my games, press interviews with me, etc.
Please restore this article. If the issue is that it needs more sources, I am happy to add some. Thanks.99.40.5.48 (talk) 03:09, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hello 99.40.5.48: A problem is that per the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thomas Lehmann, it was determined that you presently do not meet Wikipedia's notability standards (e.g. see WP:BASIC and WP:NOTE) for inclusion in the encyclopedia. Per the overall arguments and consensus at the deletion discussion, I'm not allowed to restore the deleted article under these circumstances.
- Of note is that subjects need to meet Wikipedia's notability criteria to qualify for an article. For example, have you received significant coverage in reliable sources that is beyond routine, local coverage? For example, I looked at the Board game geek profile page, but it is simply in the form of a short directory listing, and does not consist of significant coverage. Furthermore, the reliability of the source itself may be questionable relative to Wikipedia's purposes as an encyclopedia.
- I understand your frustration, but interests of the nominator for deletion (e.g. video games, rather than board games) does not necessarily correspond with their ability to ascertain notability for other subjects and topics. Furthermore, the Video games and People deletion sorting notices in the deletion discussion and corresponding listings were not placed by the nominator, they were placed by another user.
- A way to move forward would be for me to move the deleted page into Wikipedia's WP:DRAFT namespace, where you could work on the article to demonstrate notability per Wikipedia's standards. After, I recommend that you submit the draft to Articles for creation, where your submission can be reviewed. An easy way to do this is to place
{{Userspace draft}}{{draft}} atop the draft page and then select the "Submit your draft for review" link. Please let me know if you are interested in having the deleted article moved into the draft namespace. North America1000 09:26, 13 March 2020 (UTC)- My games have won multiple awards, which have received press coverage from independent sources: for example, the coverage of Res Arcana winning the As D'Or at the latest Cannes Games Festival in France, reported here. I've been a guest of honor at multiple gaming conventions; on gaming panels at multiple World Science Fiction conventions; and have been invited to give talks at game design conferences, such as this talk.
- Please move the deleted article into the draft namespace. Thanks.99.40.5.48 (talk) 12:11, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
- A stalker writes: I think there's potential for a viable article here, even if the previous version (which I have not seen) didn't have enough good references. Several of the designer's games rightly have articles, and other Wikipedias have de:Tom Lehmann (Spieleautor) and fr:Thomas Lehmann. (Disclosure: I have some of those games on my shelf.) - (talk page stalker) I hadn't seen the deleted article, but I also think there's a reasonable shot at finding better references. (and the video game categorization at the AfD couldn't have helped) Support moving back to draft to at least make an attempt. (Disclosure: In addition to owning several of his games, I've also shared a gaming table with him a couple of times when he guested at a local convention (EGG, if you were wondering, Tom...)) --Finngall talk 17:19, 13 March 2020 (UTC)

Yomeishu
Are you trying to get someone to start a page for Yomeishu? Why not start the page yourself? -- Doctorx0079 (talk) 00:47, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
- No. List of liqueurs is tagged as needing more citations for verification. It's unclear why you are removing new sources that I am adding, but it is not improving the article, it is deteriorating it. It is difficult to improve articles when you keep erasing the improvements. North America1000 01:24, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
- More citations doesn't mean longer descriptions. I didn't remove your citation, I removed your long information about the liqueur. However I think your current short description is fine. -- Doctorx0079 (talk) 01:29, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
- You previously removed a reference and note in this edit, stating in the edit summary, "This belongs in a separate article about Yomeishu". However, the list article is tagged as needing more citations, and removing the source deteriorated the article. North America1000 01:48, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

Reference fill tool
Are you familiar with this refill tool?. May come in handier than Template:Cleanup bare URLs.Djflem (talk) 07:32, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hi @Djflem: Yes, I use reFill and Webreflinks from time-to-time. A problem I've been having is that when I use these tools, I am then logged off of Wikipedia automatically at times, which is a serious problem. Another issue is that sometimes these tool pages won't load for minutes at a time for me, and when they do, they will parse for minutes before providing any output to publish. North America1000 07:35, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, it is a pain sometimes.Djflem (talk) 07:49, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hello N and Djflem. I see that you are using the original refill tool. The tool was updated last year. While the old one is still available for use it is AFAIK not maintained and I think that is why you getting logged off. I just made a long post about this here Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Logged out by using REFILL and it might have some information that will be useful for you - or not :-) Best regards to you both and stay safe and well. Draft:Thexyz concern
Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Thexyz, a page you created, has not been edited in 5 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.
If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.
You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.
If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.
Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 01:24, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
The file File:2015 World Indigenous Games logo.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
unused, low-res, no obvious use
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
